Hu tieu nam vang kho, xiu mai
Christine B.

Nam vang has my favorite xiu mai (steamed meatballs). This is a must when you come here for the dry noodles! I thought they only had the regular hu tieu (rice noodles) but when I went last time they had hu tieu dai (clear noodles) which are my favorite. Interior is clean, and service is quick. Don't forget to get a chinese donut to round out the meal - dip it in that pork broth!!

No. 17: Wonton Soup (5/5)

My friend was raving about Nam Vang, so we went to go for lunch. All the raving he did was valid as I really enjoyed my meal. I ordered the Number 17: Wonton Soup with egg noodles. I got some extra protein in it like rib meat which surprised me as I thought I was only getting wontons. The broth was the real star. Probably the best tasting broth I have had in San Jose. The service was excellent and this place was very nice and upgraded with a more modern look.

fter not coming here for over a decade, my uncle from SD visited and wanted to eat here, so I took him bright and early for some Uncle and Nephew bonding over breakfast. The food tasted great, maybe even better than I remembered. I ordered the Hu Tieu Mi Kho and loved the balance of flavors in the sauce, the big ol xi quach pork bone in the broth, and the giant xiu mai pork meatballs. The chinese donut really stood out. It tasted super fresh and delicious, and it was perfect for dipping in the broth and eating with the noodles. It looks like they even expanded their menu over the years with more stir fry noodle and Cambodian/Vietnamese dishes to try.

#1 Dac Biet Hu Tieu Nam Vang (Special Cambodian Noodle) DRY (soup on side) with an order of Chinese donuts

WOW!! SO UNDERRATED! Ordered the #1 Dac Biet Hu Tieu Nam Vang (Special Cambodian Noodle) and got it DRY, which means the soup comes seperately. I also ordered a side of Chinese donuts to dip in my soup. The noodles were perfectly al dente, extremely chewy and bouncy and had a great savory flavor. They do not skimp on the fried garlic and green onions either! The proteins in the bowl were also not overcooked which I was very surprised about. Even the shrimp was bouncy! The soup broth is so clear, light and delicious. I'd recommend adding some black pepper to it! The Chinese donuts could have been crispier and they weren't oily at all which I didn't like because I missed that slightly oily taste you get with freshly fried Chinese donuts. I'd still get them again though! THOROUGHLY enjoyed this meal. I'm coming back.

Nam Vang Restaurant was okay to me. The glutton in me decided to get take out from them. My hotel had already fed me, but, I still wanted a little more. The neighborhood they were located in kind of scared my wife. Service was okay. I ordered what was in their name...The Hu Tieu Nam Vang. It is what I normally order at a Vietnamese restaurant in SoCal. The portion was good enough for my wife and I to share, since we already ate. It had plenty of meats, seafood and bean sprouts. No complaints. I'll be nice and give them 4 stars.

Delicious noodle menu made of Cambodian-Viet fusion. Egg and rice noodle dishes that come with broth and meat! Fast service. Just watch out for cranky blonde older Asian lady server who can be a bit impatient when you're ordering.

Family came to eat here and we had both the dry and soup version of the noodle Nam Vang dish. The soup version was standard, nothing stood out as WOW factor. The dry version was on the salty side and a few family members noted that the quality wasn't the same as it was before; I'm guessing they're referring to before the ownership change. We also ordered xiu mai (meat balls) and Chinese fried donuts, and those were good. They went well with the noodle dishes. The servers were nice and sweet. The place filled up quick and we got there before 9am. If paying with card, then there is a 3% surcharge. The parking lot can also be tricky to find parking if you come at a later time. The store plays instrumental iconic Vietnamese songs and it's relatively clean.

I love this noodle spot in SJ, their broth is very comforting and delicious especially on cold days. Be sure to pair it with some of the pickled peppers and try out their meatball! I enjoy the Banh Canh Nam Vang more because of the thicker noodle and they include a big pork bone in your broth too.

Hu tieu mi kho (closest to me), hu tieu kho, chinese donuts, and their version of siu mai. Sugarcane juice too

Hu tieu mi kho. The only dish you have to try. This place was always a family favorite. Growing up i came here with family friends and always had a good memory surrounded by good food. When i went recently with my mom, the flavors instantly drew me back to that time and it tasted so good. The side of broth that they give you is so nice too. It has that warm meat taste like pho but just so tasty and lowkey should try with the noodles too. I think this place deserves a chance

Shout out to my friend for taking me to this low-key spot! It's located in a sketchy parking lot and that's a sign the food is gonna taste authentic. The interior of the restaurant feels very homey. My friend has been going here since a kid so she told us to order the Mi Nam Vang dac biet; so we all ordered it with egg noodles. Our food came out pretty fast and the dish tasted amazing ;-;. Make sure to add the chili peppers for a hint of spice! The Chinese donuts tasted good too, when you dip it in the complimentary soup. I'll definitely come back for their dry noodles whenever I'm in the area.

I came by for lunch on a Wednesday around 12PM and got sat right away. Please note that it's cash only! The plaza is not the best and parking is a little bit sketchy. The inside is not the most updated and the table was a little sticky. Service was minimal. I got the Hu Tieu Nam Vang Dac Biet dry style. I appreciated that the noodles have already been mixed in the soy sauce mix. Broth is on the side with the bone. All the toppings are standard. The flavor was good too. One thing that put me off was just how oily it was. Oil is needed in a dish like this but it was just too much. The quay (fried donut dough) was stale too. Overall, 3 stars. Tastes good but needs improvements.

Everything was great except the sui mai was way undercooked :(

Fast to-go service. Got expensive! But I dont mind, as long as the food was delicious. Only Negative: my sui mai meat was under cooked :(

Tried the #1 Đặc Biệt Hủ Tiếu Nam Vang with the soup on the side and it was excellent! The noodles came perfectly cooked with all the toppings, shrimp, pork, quail egg, and more fresh and flavorful. Having the soup on the side really kept everything from getting soggy, and the broth was clear, light, and packed with umami. The portion is generous, and you get the best of both worlds: chewy noodles with all the mix-ins, plus that steaming hot soup to sip or pour in as you like. Service is quick, and the food comes out fast, which makes this spot a great choice when you're craving a comforting but not heavy meal. Definitely one of the best hủ tiếu Nam Vang experiences in San Jose. I'll be coming back just for this.

You place your order through a QR code, which makes the process quick and easy. This visit, we ordered the salt and pepper chicken wings, Tidu Sliced Beef Pot, and Tianjin Eggplant. The wings are a must-order here. They're always perfectly fried and crispy on the outside while still staying juicy and tender inside. The Tidu Sliced Beef Pot reminded me of a dry hot pot. It had a great mala flavor with a subtle numbing sensation, and the peanuts added a nice crunch and texture to the dish. The Tianjin Eggplant was simple but delicious, with flavorful pork that paired really well with the soft eggplant. Overall, the food here is comforting and satisfying. It's a place I'll definitely keep coming back to.

Great place for authentic Chinese food! My friend and I came here and had the chicken tidu pot…read morebecause I was craving dry pot, and I absolutely loved it. I was missing some ingredients that were listed and wish it was more customizable but the flavor was on point (especially with the numbing flavor that gives MaLa its signature name). We also had the salted egg chicken wings, I loved how crispy they were. Absolutely the spot to come for late night eats.

Not the same Mayflower that I went to growing up but this place did NOT disappoint…read more We were in the mood for dim sum on the way to the T&T grocery store opening and yelp brought us here. We walked in right at opening to a completely empty dining room. Instead of leaving, we browsed the menu and ordered XLB, pot stickers, jelly fish, and pea sprouts (my personal fav) so glad we didn't leave! The XLB are a nice size, with each precious dumpling cradled in its own foil wrapper for maximum soup retention. The potstickers were full of flavor, packed with protein, delicately wrapped, and had the crispiest, golden bottoms! Jelly fish was fresh and the pea sprouts were a hit! The poor owner answering the phones made sure (in all languages) to inform folks calling in that there were a different May Flower than the other place-felt terrible for her but also understood the importance of differentiating right up front. I can only imagine the number of misorders they have probably dealt with. By the time we were done, the dining room was filled with a mix of what seemed like regulars, locals, large groups of families, small groups of friends... this feels like we stumbled upon a tiny hole in the wall restaurant where everyone who has been before just knows the quality and taste they are going to be getting! Highly recommend you check this place out for a dine in or take out order!

This is one of the handful of American Chinese restaurants that stood the test of time. As is typical of these places, there was an old lady manning the counter and also acting as the server. And as is typical of these places, there was table at the end where they were prepping the fruits and veggies. It's truly remarkable how they are all similar in these ways! We got a couple of dishes and they came out at lightning speed. * Chowmein-3/5- delicious with lots of umami flavor but shockingly greasy. I mean I am used to oily noodles but this one exceeded some limits. *crispy salt and pepper eggplant-3/5- I had a stellar version of this dish at another restaurant in Sunnyvale and was stoked when I saw this on the menu here. Unfortunately it was a poor representation of the dish I loved there. The batter was too much and the dish felt heavy. The hot oil or sauce they had felt old and extremely vinegary as well, I would recommend avoiding it.
