Everyone that got there after us and 30 after us was all seated.. and again an hour after us.. the outside waiting area is almost empty and they still haven't seated us.. so I ask what's going on and her excuse was well we can't sit large party right away.. and we gave you an estimated time of 2hours.. Tried them for first time. Loved our meal. We got the Gyudon appetizer and each got the Tonkatsu. I can't ever finish a full bowl of ramen so I wasn't happy about the small to go containers or having to spend money to buy another to fit my leftovers in. I understand why but let me be the master of my compromised quality leftover ramen. The food was good so I give them 4 stars. But will probably go to our usual spot more often than here. Best ramen place in town hands down! My siblings and I went late at night, it was packed, wait time was about half an hour but I was surprised at how fast they seated so many people waiting outside. The indoor vibe is really laid back, dark lights which added to the relaxed atmosphere. If you love ramen then Nama is your place. Nestled between other restaurants and a Hong Kong waffle bar, this place stands out. At least 4 types of ramen broth available all days with daily specials-all available to customize. Okonomiyaki fries are straight heaven y'all! Literally a mound of fresh fries with drizzled sauces, furikake, and dried fish. Sounds weird but dang just order it! You'll thank me later. Whew, I'm salivating just writing this. The inside is small and it's like you're sitting community style but overall comfortable since everyone is enjoying the ramen. Not a good spot for parties over 4 just due to space. They have a square to allow customers to pay at the table. Don't feel that you're rushed to leave either, it's just they're way. Place gets packed closer to dinner so plan to arrive early. For dessert, I recommend the fried oreos. This includes 6 oreos fried in a funnel cake style batter and drizzled with chocolate and strawberry syrup with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the middle of the plate. Cliffnotes version: don't come with parties 4+, plan to arrive early unless you're okay with waiting outside, order okonomiyaki fries and fried oreos. I've only been here for lunch, yet the one available ramen served at lunch is super delicious. As a result, this has become one of my favorites in the city. I love tossing extras in my bowls to make it extra hearty. The edamame served has a great flavor that isn't too bold, yet with enough hint of heated spice. I could easily eat these twice over. The pork belly bun appetizer was super tasty. We were super hungry and didn't realize that it was just one in a serving. We now know for next time so we can share more bites. If you plan to come with family, be aware that this place is not entire kid friendly. You'll need to bring your own booster seat or high chair. This is hands-down the best place to get Ramen in San Antonio. I always come here late at night and order the Tonkotsu Ramen (probably the best between all of them). You can add some heat with the chili oil for €60 (I always think they could have gave it for free, they're so cheap). Food has never been an issue here, but the service is pretty terrible. I assume they know that they'll never run out of customers, so they don't really care if you're pissed off. Some simple rules I learned after a couple times eating here: - You won't be seated until your parties have arrived. ( So it doesn't matter if your friend is driving around finding parking, everybody has to present to be seated, or else if they arrive late, they'll be seated else where. It also doesn't matter if 2/3 of the tables were opened. Also, you won't get to pick your seat.) - Be prepared to sit super close to other parties. We ordered 2 bowls of Nama ramen, okonomiyaki fries, eel nigiri, and snowflake roll. I was pretty hungry b/c I was stuck at home all day. I couldn't go anywhere when my car was in the shop for repair. So I didn't get to come here to eat until my friend could take me. The fries were pretty great I have to say. Both me and my friend liked it a lot. The ramen was an epic fail. The noodles were very soggy. The broth was fatty and lacked depth. Chashu and pork shoulder weren't bad tho. But it would be an insult to compare this ramen to Tatsu-ya in ATX let alone the real deal I had in NYC and Cali. Neither my friend nor I finished half of the ramen. Sushi was ok, nothing special. I should not have ordered the snowflake roll. That's the only basic roll with eel so I ordered it b/c I love eel. But this roll has coconut which was very weird. It basically tasted sweet and salty at the same time. The Japanese would have committed suicide if they saw this fusion sushi roll. Yuck. Regardless tho, I applaud Nama for moving this city forward in terms of Asian food and culture. But for me this will be my last visit b/c the food is not on par. I've had the displeasure of eating at Nama Ramen a total of 2 times. During my first visit the takoyaki was on the undercooked side, the karage we had ordered we sent back because it was frozen in the center (not the biggest fan of raw and frozen chicken) and the tonkotsu ramen broth was very watery, not creamy or savory as tonkotsu ramen should be. I decided to go a second time because my first visit was close to closing hours, and hearing positive reviews from peers and online reviews i figured i should definitely try again. So i went during their peak hours and I was met with more disappointment. The ramen quality was just as bad if not worse, watery tonkotsu ramen and the noodles they used were very thin (very uncharacteristic of tonkotsu ramen), okay and get this. They use BOILED PORKBELLY WITH NO MARINADE OR SEASONING, IT LOOKS GRAY. The Spicy karage ramen, is the same watery tonkotsu broth but with too much cheese. Granted the chicken was cooked this time. The sushi was ultimately sub-par to gas station sushi. A good thing is that they follow strict covid procedures, but looking back on it i'm astonished there was a 20 min wait to eat watered-down ramen. I honestly felt scammed paying this amount of money for food i hated. I highly recommend NOT coming to nama ramen. I personally will not be returning ever. read more

My daughter and I have been looking for a tasty place like this for quite some time now! We arrived about 5:30 on a Saturday and there was no line (WIN) we were sat right away. We had a very knowledgeable waiter. He said he'd been there for a while and knew the menu and history great! We had to order the edamame. Since we hadn't ever been to a place like this we asked a lot of questions. We were with two of our other family members who didn't care for the food. The waiter did make sure to tell us we needed to have at least 4 bowels (or 4 items) in the table for using the space. I thought that was quite unique but I guess it's that popular of a place and our table needed to make use of that space. It wasn't an issue but I wanted to make sure to let other know as a tip! The second time around, we made reservations at the restaurant once we arrived and had to wait for about 15-20 minutes. The menu has a lot to offer which is nice. I ordered a Tonkotsu ramen with a couple of add-ins. We also got the Amy Jo sushi roll, the Red Dragon Roll, the Snowflake Roll, Sukiyaki fries, and tried 3 of their baos (pork, Texan, and something else I don't recall). Everything was absolutely awesome and delicious! Usually ramen is salty at other places but I have to say it was really good and smooth here. Their portion was just enough as well. The only thing my friend had to say was that she wishes there was an option to swap out the broth. She cannot eat pork so she had asked if they could've substituted a different broth but they wouldn't bc they "didn't want the boss to get angry." Idk what's up with that. WOW! A good friend of mine recommend this place and it did not disappoint! I went during lunch and was surprised to see how busy it was. The restaurant is not very big, but is cozy. Instead of ordering the recommended ramen, I ordered a bao, bacon edamame, and some sushi. I was thoroughly impressed across the board and the service was amazing. The green ranger roll might be my favorite new roll ever. It has a wasabi sauce drizzled over the top and a little crunch from the coconut shrimp. DELICIOUS! I have a bad habit of comparing Asian restaurants to the type I'm familiar with back home in Las Vegas. Vegas had a huge Asian district with an extremely large Asian population, where you could find every type of phenomenal Asian cuisine available. Unfortunately, I've not found one place that rivals the quality of cuisine found in Vegas. That said, Nama Ramen wasn't bad. I ordered Yellowtail nigiri to start with, because I couldn't decide on sushi or ramen, so I opted for both! Their yellowtail was fresh, and served with the typical garnishes. Nothing to write home about, but definitely not bad. On the ramen side, I ordered the only option available at lunch: The chicken broth with pork belly, fish cake, and wood ear fungus. I added seaweed and soft boiled egg to round out the flavors. My ramen was served quickly and at the proper temperature. The noodles had just the right chew...a perfect al dente. The pork belly was melt in your mouth tender, and the soft eggs were perfectly cooked. Good job on the add-ins, Nama! Unfortunately, I wasn't as impressed with the depth of flavor in the broth. It seemed to be "missing" something, but I couldn't put my finger in it. It was good mind you, just not great. For that reason, I gave this place 3 stars (that, and the interior of the place needs a good cleaning and organization). If I wasn't in such a good mood, I may have even dropped them another star for their cleanliness/organization issue. All in all, my meal was okay, but I'm not sure it was a return-worthy experience. IF I'm in the area, and IF I'm in the mood for ramen I might return, but I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to repeat. I don't understand how this place doesn't have 5 stars. Nama has the best ramen and sushi in town. My boyfriend and I will drive clear across town on the weekend to get their spicy karaage ramen. It's pretty much one of a kind in SA, as far as I've found. I think a lot of people forget this is a fusion joint. If you're looking for something traditional, you won't find it here.
