I grew up eating Indian food in CA and thought it would be something I'd miss. Found this place and am so happy. I did not think I would find good Indian food in the Midwest. Stop by and try to lamb pasanda, tastes like chicken but way better! Also growing up we'd dip the naan bread in the yogurt raita. It's a must try! read more

My rating is for service not food. Let me start that the food was great. Terrific flavor, nice size portions and tender meat. Apparently the young man who waited on us was misogynistic. He only spoke to me once and then the rest of the meal, he directed himself only toward my husband. It was odd. When we ordered, I had asked for our food to be mild for my husband. I inquired if they could give me something else so I could add more heat to my plate. The response was no after checking with the chef. I understand that curries take a different finesse to spice up. I've been to a lot of Indian restaurants who accommodate us. Sometimes it is a bowl of chili, spicy chutney or even a prepared paste. I also know how to cook. I love being told I'd wreck my meal. The food was delicious so that wasn't the problem . I was treated as I wasn't there. The water situation was odd too. Although pitchers of water were prepared and sitt on their counter, we were only offered to buy bottled. I saw the guys drinking the water. Why can't I have a glass of ice water? To sum this up, I'd order takeout from here. I would not sit in their restaurant again. Their sign says "prepare to be amused"....I apparently wasn't. read more

Four stars compared to the other food choices near the Interstate exit, three stars as an Indian restaurant, five stars as an Indian restaurant in this part of Michigan. I've had much better in the Chicago area, Grand Rapids, and somewhat better in the Milwaukee area, but around here this is the best Indian cuisine around. It's a wonderful break in a road trip between Wisconsin or Illinois and Central or Northern Michigan. Clean, much cleaner than the chain restaurant it replaced (though it still looks more like a Long John Silver's than an Indian restaurant), with friendly, attentive service. You'll meet the owners and you'll want them to succeed because this is America and they are new entrepreneurs. The lunch buffet has a good range of choices though the spice level is set for typical Michigan mild palates, hey what are you going to do. When ordering off the menu, they will spice things up and I give them extra credit for believing my (gora) Chief of Staff when she insisted on hot. Very good food! Really enjoyed my dinner. I had Veggie Samosas and Butter Chicken. Also had Garlic Naan! All were very good and really hit the spot. My waiter was kind and informative and very attentive. Decor was odd, but fun. Long John Silver meets Acid-Trip. Tables and tablecloths, plates utensils - all very nice. Good presentation too! Only complaint was that there was a man with his feet up on the booth (perhaps the owner?) watching a Very loud television on the opposite side of the room (you know - it's not a very large room). Appeared to be some sort of a C grade Bollywood TV show. Looked pretty low budget - and apparently the sound man who worked on the production must have been deaf, because every time a twangy jingly thumpy music number happened by, the volume increased exponentially! It was really annoying while I was trying to enjoy my really lovely dinner. Perhaps we will order Take Away next time!!! read more

What a hidden gem. I'm heading back from Chicago and pulled off for a bite in Indiana to a Indian resteraunt hidden behind a gas station in a Long John Silvers. There is no adequate way to describe the surealness inside. The service was fine, pretty empty on a Sunday evening. The food was Outstanding though. Great blend of spice and some creative menu choices. The curried goat was slow stewed to tender perfection. Spicy potato cake appetizer was Outstanding. We were very, very impressed with the authentic, rich, full-flavor Indian food here at Namaste. Started with vegetable samosas and it was clear with the first bite that this is not Americanized food. It is true to its origin, properly prepared, and so very aromatic and delicious. The staff made extra effort to make sure we were well cared for, stopping by frequently to check on us and our food. Had the vegetable samosas, butter naan, chicken vindaloo, and butter chicken. Can't speak to the rest of the menu (yet!), but those were among the best I've had. read more

Without question, Namaste is one of the best restaurants in Chesterton and our family's favorite. We've taken advantage of their online ordering through Beyond Menu and their convenient take-out window more times than I can count during the pandemic. The food is always fresh, hot, and tasty. The chicken tikka masala and butter chicken are to die for. I typically order the chicken jalfezi for me (I like that it has vegetables in the sauce with the chicken) and the vegetable korma for my wife. We've tried several of the naan bread flavors, but keep coming back to the garlic naan. read more

Very average food and service! The place had gloomy interiors and barely anyone to tend to the customers. We had to wait a long time before someone could take our order and the waiter couldn't even speak English! They don't serve normal water but force bottle water on you! A very minor comment - is the outside of the building looks a little run down (long grass and some weeds in the landscaping). Well, I used to go there. They wont give you tap water for choice of drink. They force you to buy bottle water for $2.49 a bottle. Which is just tap water in a bottle. Very authentic in flavor and style. Everything was piping hot. The garlic and the rosemary naan were really good too. We were stuffed but had to have the mango lassi for the ride home to valpo. The service was impeccable and Ricky was very friendly and gave great suggestions. He told us they are planning to open in Valpo which will be another great addition to Valpo dining. I was in town for dunes and was supposed to go to white castle but instead decided to come here for lunch buffet ( building is yellow in colour yelling at to you to come inside). The food was comparitively better to some of the worst places i have ever had. Honestly, food was fresh and i could taste the freshness of the meat. The only reason i gave this place 3 stars is because, the spice level of each dish is in complete imbalance. Tandoori kabab is completely bland without any flavor, while curry is spicy. Lamb curry was cooked to tenderness and the curry base was not impressive. Pakoda was in good texture but, it was salty. read more

We tried to confirm that our order was free of a specific food allergen and the person taking the order didn't listen. We waited 45 minutes for our food to arrive, there was more confusion about the bill and everyone behind the bar was arguing over it for several minutes. They forgot one of the items in our order.
