I was a bit skeptical about this place because it is a converted Long John Silvers in Chesterton. I still decided to give it a chance and I am VERY glad that I did. I managed to make it in for the lunch buffet on a Friday. they had the standard fare for Indian buffets, but what sets this place apart is the delicate balance of seasonings! The curries were on point, paneer was amazing, along with both chicken dishes... the star on the buffet this day was the goat! Some of the best stewed goat I have had EVER! Goat is a difficult protein to work with, and one must know what one is doing to carry it off, this place carried it off of the charts! The server was very attentive, the naan was made to order, and everyone there seemed to really enjoy the food as much as I. This restaurant seems to be an unknown gem in Northwest Indiana. I love this place and have been here more times than I can remember. I have never had a bad experience or ordered anything that I did not enjoy. This is a family owned restaurant and it shows. As much attention is paid to the customer as to the food. The staff is always exceptionally friendly, quick and helpful with any questions about dishes. They have some of the best Naan bread I have ever had. Many varieties and each one is great - from Roti to Pudina Paratha to Kashmiri to Garlic to Rosemary Naan, they all taste freshly made and exceptional. I recommend stopping in for a meal from the menu but I also love their daily lunch buffet. Yes, the restaurant is a converted Long John Silver's so walking inside won't make you think you've been transported to India, but the food is spectacular and you will not be disappointed. Worth coming in at least for the juxtaposition of cultural motifs and Long John Silver-chic, but stay for the food! Happy to have another ethnic food option in the area, we were cautiously optimistic trying Namaste, and pleasantly surprised! They are definitely still working out the kinks - I think we had about 3 people serving us, and they've still got the LJS "Order Here" sign (among other things) even though it's a sit down restaurant... but bottom line, the food is fantastic. We ordered the appetizer coconut shrimp to start, garlic naan, lamb pasanda, and paneer butter masala. Everything was soooo good!! The rice they served as a side was really colorful and pretty (who cares about taste! but that was good too)! I'm not an expert, but everything was on the sweeter side, which made sense for the shrimp and lamb dishes but wasn't expected on the paneer, but nevertheless I quite liked it that way. You can choose mild/medium/spicy - we chose medium, and I'm really weak on spicy stuff but it was not really spicy at all. Entree (and even the appetizer) portions were large, but if you like naan with your dishes, you'll do well to order more than one; one portion of garlic naan was just one large piece cut into quarters and I wish we'd had more (it was soooo tasty too). Also, we went for dinner but they have a lunch buffet I hope to try out soon! 3.5 stars rounded up - they just opened recently so I'm sure they'll get smoother as they go, but the food's the most important part, right? read more

I love Indian food, and so I eat at a lot of different Indian places in downtown Chicago. This place surpasses pretty much every one of them. I had the Chicken Saag, which was fresh, with tender chicken and a great depth of flavor. The tandoori chicken was delicious and equally tender. And their naan was so good it was almost a dessert. We all loved our dishes, decor of pink linen table with real napkins such a surprise in a former Long John Silvers. The restaurant itself is accessible from 80/94 and is easily recognizable due to it previously housing a long john silvers.
