You got to be insane to order from this place. We ordered take out, they said 50 minutes. Got there in 50 minutes had to wait 30 extra minutes for the food. Not a large order, the restaurant wasn't that busy. Got home, half of the order was missing. After calling them and going over what was missing about 5 times, I went back to pick up the food. When I got home, the other half of the order was cold. Never got an apology from the clueless girl on the phone and at the restaurant. I asked to speak to a manager, she said he was busy and couldn't talk. Now the food. It's flavorless, blend and not fun. Now, if you don't know Indian food, you're going to think this food is bad, if you know Indian food, you're going to think this food is horrible! I hate giving this review. The restaurant appears family run. Our server was friendly and pleasant.But...this is yelp and a site for restaurant reviews, so here is mine. You ever had "bad" Chinese food from a take out? Boring bland brown sauce? Same here. The aloo gobi I had a brown sauce that had no flavor. The sides of rice came out lukewarm. The portions were comically small. We had 4 dishes. Nothing we ate was good. Bad chef? We are st Augustine residents, love Indian food and yet never tried this restaurant . Namaste is the same restaurant as Mediterranean Shish-Kebab - it's the same building and staff. While the latter did have some Indian dishes in the past, Namaste is an attempt at creating a full Indian menu. This was made possible by the recent addition of a tandoor, which is essential in Indian cooking to make bread (naan) and certain types of meat. When you enter you'll have the option of the Namaste menu or the traditional menu, and there is a big new sign out front indicating the name Namaste. Now that that's out of the way, let's get to our review. Namaste is a very strange restaurant. The first thing you will notice is that the Lunch Buffet only runs Monday to Friday, we tried to go on a Saturday and found ourselves out of luck. This is a curious business choice, as naturally the most business would be during the very busy St Augustine weekends, so that immediately threw me for a loop. Inside you will likely personally meet the Bengali chef, as it is short staffed and scarce of customers. We found the chef and one assistant when we arrived. You will quickly notice that the place tries to sell itself as high end but has tacky paper covers on the tables, and very cheap flimsy wooden chairs. The prices on the menu are absurd, easily up to 30-50% more expensive than what you would find in superior Indian restaurants in Jacksonville. The serving sizes are not large - they are about medium to small. While the chicken pathi masala we ordered was probably medium sized, the naan that comes out is quite small. The food itself is probably the most troubling point. I should have known that it was going to be a problem when the chef himself somehow didn't know what raita was (traditional Indian yogurt), a staple of good Indian food. The naan was flavorless and just had some butter smeared on it after the fact. We ordered the masala stated before and an order of house special biryani rice. The masala was OK but lacking some of the traditional spices of Indian cuisine. IT was flavorful and sweet, but again, not worth the price tag, which was probably $3-4 more than a typical meat masala at a place in Jacksonville. It came with Mediterranean rice, not jasmine, and while flavorful, does not complement Indian currys. The biryani did not taste like traditional biryani, and like our masala, was composed of rice which was unsuitable for a biryani. The recurring problem at Namaste is the owner's decision to incorporate ingredients from his Mediterranean menu in the Indian menu. No, tzatziki is not a substitute for raita. No, mint yogurt sauce is not raita. These fine details were lost on the owner. No, you can't use the same rice. No you can't use the same spices. The food at Namaste is a hybrid of his regular menu essentially forced to be Indian. That being said while I am a big fan of "Fusion" foods -the food at Namaste is not an attempt at fusing Mediterranean and Indian, but rather fooling the customer into presenting it as Indian. The food was average but overpriced and I went here looking for a closer alternative than the 35 minute drive into Jacksonville. Will I go back to Namaste? No. I rather make the drive, pay less and get better Indian food. For those reading this looking for an Indian place, India House, 5th Element and Flavors are all good options. I really wanted a good Indian place closer to home but Namaste just doesn't cut the mustard unfortunately. read more

My family and I really enjoyed the food here. They were very accommodating with my almost two-year-old nephew and even brought his food out right after we ordered so he could start eating. The Samosas were good as an appetizer. The Saag Paneer was superb and they made it spicy without affecting the balance of flavor in the dish. The Naan was soft and just how we like it. I've lived and traveled around the country and have eaten at many different Indian restaurants, most of them very Americanized, some of them more authentic. Having said that, this is one of the worst Indian restaurants I have ever been to. We ordered water; there was so much chlorine in the water that it tasted like it was right out of a swimming pool. The garlic naan was paper thin, crispy, and greasy. The Tikka Masala tasted like chicken with a can of pasta sauce dumped on top of it. My wife was equally dissatisfied with her meal. Our shop was placing an order over the phone and the girl that called to place the order asked the man if he could please hold for second so she could make sure of what was on the list. He said "no there's another call". She said just a sec just want to check to be sure. He kept saying no and getting irritated. Finally completed the order and hung up but have no total. Since it was individual order grouped we wanted to know ahead of time before picking up. Called and left a message and then he called back leaving a rude message saying if u want ur food to call. One of the other girls here called and asked him for the total please. He said forget it don't pick up ur food I not make it. VERY VERY RUDE!!! Namaste is a quaint, little Indian restaurant tucked in between a car dealership and some other local businesses. Definitely worth the u turn if you're coming south in US 1. Warm, family service and amazing food. Had the lamb curry and the onion naan and it was just enough to fill me up. The only dig is the price...15.99 for the lamb curry seemed a little high for the small, but filling portion. Will still come back, just not as often as I'd like to. read more

I can't understand any of the old reviews of this place. The management is family ran and has been very kind on all of our 5 visits. The food is always hot and delicious. The nan is unbelievably good. If the management has changed it been a completely revamped and for the better. I suggest nearly all of my lunch appointments to be held there. read more

The owner doesn't know how to behave especially towards his own people. Very small portion. I'm an Indian descendant and I know Indian food. So lamb dopiaza masala was not fully cooked and was missing cumin. But I have to admit I liked the naan because it's not too thick. Namaste is an extremely welcome addition to St. Augustine! We locals have been chomping at the bit for a dedicated Indian restaurant for years, and Namaste is a strong hit right out of the gate! As long-time vegetarians, we were delighted to find a wide selection of our favorite comfort foods. The Sag Paneer was fresh, truly delicious, and a generous, shareable portion. The space has been recently renovated and is bright, immaculately clean, and welcoming. The family owners are cheerful and warm. We look forward to many return visits! I'm always dubious of reviewers who claim a vast experience of some entire country's cuisine and fault particular instances of it as "inauthentic" when all they're really able to say is that the food they had at one particular restaurant wasn't "like" what they had somewhere else. Family owned business good to see the entire family is working together nice, but the hospitality was poor. I persinally felt the owner should make the guests feel comfortable at their place.. should have warm smile and pleasent interaction which was totally missing when we went yesterday.. may be they might have had long day.. but that should not be reflected on guests. Have to remember that they are representing a country in a foreign country. Food here is good but with respect to the spiciness i felt the spicy flavour on many items were raw.. felt like had raw chill powder. My recommendation is do not order spicy food here ask only for mild or medium (5 or less out of 10)..
