A different flavor than most of what's in Savannah, this place is also notable for being open on Sunday. It was a splendid day and a holiday when I chose to stop in, so it was a takeout order for me, which was well packaged and ready quickly. Their menu options are intriguing as Nepali cuisine includes things not common in the rest of the Indian subcontinent, notably the delicious dumplings (momo) with a characteristic mustard-based sauce. They also had a tofu curry and a lentil soup, both of which I asked for spicy and both of which were quite powerful. The portion size didn't blow me away, but I couldn't accuse the place of lacking in distinctive flavors or in options for vegetarian/vegan diets, another thing that isn't always easy to find in the area. read more

Street parking always tough downtown. Gonna have to walk a few blocks. Xmas/New Years week was busy everywhere and all the places were short staffed. This may be the best Indian food I have ever had, the Tikka Masala is fabulous, perfect cooked chicken the you can cut with a fork, the sauce is served on the side so you can decide how much you want on it, the garlic naan is great and the the mixed drinks are also make just right. Have mixed feelings about this place. It's not bad, but not mind-blowing either--quite plain. My main reservations: 1) the rice wasn't done perfectly--it's either not fresh, or done with a tad too little water, causing the end result "lumpy". 2) the traditional curry is too loose/watery. 3) our waitress was wearing mask on and off. The lack of wow effects makes me wonder how long this place can last in downtown. They need to step up the game a bit. We ordered the samosas, vegetable boiled momo's, tofu curry, Chile naan, and garlic naan The samosas were great, crispy and light fried outer layer, and great flavor, well seasoned interior The momo's were a fun new item to try for both of us. During my recent visit to Savannah, I decided to change things up a bit for dinner. Instead of the usual seafood heavy dinner that I typically get, I went for some Indian food. A quick search for Indian restaurants brings up pretty much just two options in the historic district with Namaste Savannah being one of them (the one one being on Broughton as well!). Here are my ratings based on different criteria: Quality of food: forgetful. Since it was dinner time, I ordered a bunch of things from the dinner menu. I tried the Kothe (pan fried) Momo, samosa chat, pani puri, and tika masala. The momo which is a very Nepalese dish, was underwhelming and tasted like soggy pot stickers without any flavor. The samosa chat looked good when it came out but tasted bland. The puri in pani puri were crunchy but the pani was not spicy enough which is always should be. I really wanted to like something here but the flavor was just lacking in everything I get. For the record, I'm not talking about the spice level which can be modified but the flavor itself which has to be developed during cooking. Decor: just okay. The walls were all colored peach with barely any decorations on them. It felt a bit depressing being here for dinner. Cleanliness: good. The bathroom and the tables were kept clean. Service: bad. The lady that works here was frustrating to deal with. February is the off season for Savannah. With only 6 other guests in the whole restaurant, she was more busy drying dishes than asking us if we needed more water. It required a long awkward wave from the other side of the restaurant to get her attention. She also didn't seem to know how to pronounce the items on the menu or knew much about what they tasted like. It just felt like she was doing you a favor by bringing food and answering questions. The chef on the other hand was the nicest person and stopped by a couple of times at our table. Price: expensive. Samosa chat was $7 and barely enough to share. Pani puri was $7. Momo was $10. Tika masala was $15. The price of each dish was about $3 more than what a typical Indian restaurant would charge for the same dish. For the reasons mentioned above, I do not recommend Namaste Savannah for dinner. The food was expensive, tasted bland, and on top of that the service was very underwhelming. read more

We were actually looking for another Indian restaurant and found this one instead. We were seated with five minutes upon arrival. It is pretty full and there is a large party up to the right of the restaurant. Our waitress Brenda was very nice and said she was still learning the terms of the menu when I asked about a hard cracker type bread (papadum). I ordered Curry Lamb (19.99) comes with rice only. I asked for it to be mild because my friend does not like spicy. If you don't like spicy make sure you have a glass of milk or naan because even mild is spicy. We also ordered garlic naan (3.99) and the papadum (4.00). When we received the lamb and naan I asked for mango chutney, which the did not have! That is like the number one chutney and I can't believe they did not have any. They only had mint and one other (can't remember name) but it is dark red and very sweet (probably tamarind). The red chutney helped cool down the lamb. We were half way through our lamb and still did not have the red sauce or the papadum. I had to go to the waitress station and ask for it when the hostess asked if she could help. This is when I really noticed that there were only two people servers and a hostess working this entire restaurant. The lamb was so tender and the garlic naan was full of garlic. The papadum was a little burnt but still good. The size of the meal fed two people and we were both full with the help of the naan. It took a little time for us to get our bill but you could see Brenda was working hard for her money. The restaurant was clean and the atmosphere was pleasant. Would I go back? Flavor has descended upon Downtown! It has one of the few buffets worth going to. If you are a fan of Indian this is the place for you. Nepalese has a similar profile plus a fusion from surrounding Asian cultures. What won me over was the fresh naan brought with your meal. A good selection with over ten options and today there were four vegetarian platters aside from salad. Dal and paneer are staples. There were two chicken curries and a tiki masala. The only thing I was missing was texture contrast. Food was tasty and reserved enough not to blow mainstream's palate although I prefer more assertive spice and seasoning. The spices certainly come through with notes of cardamon and coriander. The regular menu is also available. Friendly service as the staff were checking in to make sure everything was alright. They are lucky to have Zach who was both attentive and friendly. The buffet varies from day to day, but on the weekends you have a better chance of other options aside from chicken (goat) and I noticed somosas. I can't wait to return on a weekend. Great affordable price and weekends it goes up a few dollars to about $15. Although this is on the main drag it blends into the other store fronts. Got here on a beautiful 63 degree day during lunch and was excited to see they had outdoor dining. When it's perfect weather outside, outdoor dining is a huge plus. The outdoor part is small and in front of the restaurant on the street, but that's totally great if you like to people watch everyone walking by. Make sure you bring some sun tan lotion if you're going during the day because the sun can be really hot. I ordered and split the chicken biryani, lamb vindaloo, and the okra tandoori. Beforehand as an appetizer we ordered a side of buttered naan and hummus dip with pita bread. The portions are quite filling and we took the rest home for another small meal. Of note, the lamb vindaloo was spicy (I may have requested it to be a bit spicier) and was absolutely delicious. I also thoroughly enjoyed the chicken biryani. My mother-in-law who had only ever tried Indian food once before was thoroughly impressed with the flavors of the foods. It took quite a bit for our food to come out and I wish they had an outdoor shaded area, but the vindaloo lamb bowl crushed it and I would totally come back here for that. They don't have a dedicated parking, but there are plenty of parking areas around Savannah that are less than a 5 minute walk from this place. read more

The curry, the chickpeas curry, was a bit spicy, but the flavors were perfect and they gave a good amount for the $16 we paid for it. 3/4th naan was hot and tasted great but the last 1/4th was pretty burnt after I turned it over. They also gave a good amount of rice for what we paid for it as well but it was just plain rice. They also gave 2 big balls of gulab jamun balls that tasted very coconutty but we got charged $5.99 instead of the $4.99 that was listed in the menu. Perfect spot for dinner while in Savannah. Good ambiance visually-- the music didn't really match the vibe of the place, but we like old DMB hits, so we didn't mind. The servers were really personable and informative. We split the veg Dal Bhat set which included roti, rice, chana masala, aloo gobi, saag paneer without the cream, and tadka dal. The server suggested we have it made mild with hot sauce on the side, rather than medium spicy. I was worried that the mild level of spice might be bland, but the chana masala was actually spicy, and while the aloo gobi was more mild than I'm used to, it was still yummy. The tadka dal wasn't spicy, but it tasted good, not bland. I usually don't like the flavor of saag paneer, but it tasted better here than any other Indian place I have it at. The chana masala was spicy enough to make up for the mild level of spice in the rest of the meal, so we didn't end up wanting to add any of the hot sauce to anything. The lamb kabobs were AMAZING--tender, had a robust flavor, and came with a really delicious sauce on the side. The a great place! We had the veggie Korma and the butter vegetable dishes. The waitress brought a mango and plain lassi to sample. I went nuts over the plain lassi with rose water. So I ordered that. They were all very accommodating regarding gluten free items as it all had to be that way. The owner came out to say hello and see what we thought of the food. I love when the owner does that as it shows how hard they try to get things right for their customers. He is a great guy! It's a Monday night after St.Patricks day. 7:15pm. There are only three parties in the restaurant. Not surprising after a holiday weekend. I ordered an appetizer of "hand breaded Calamari", Lamb Tika Masala, and garlic Nan. This should be a pretty basic and consistent order at any Indian restaurant. The Calamari, although ordered as an appetizer came out with the entree. Not a huge deal, just a pet peeve of mine. Appetizers should come out ahead of the entree. Though it was supposed to be fresh, it really came off as typical frozen bar fare. The Masala was very salty. Nearly inedible salty and a bit scorched. The garlic Nan was reasonably well done. To sum it up.... If you are wanting to try Indian food for the first time, this is not the place for you. If you must make this the first Indian meal experience, Please don't judge all Indian cuisine by this place. There are so many great restaurants in Savannah. The bar for good food is quite high. What a pleasant surprise.....They had a special with whole red snapper for 2 with sautéed veggies!!! AMAZING!!! This was BIGGEST fish I've ever seen served on a platter!! I was really enough for 3, maybe 4!! The service was top notch!!! The chef treated us like we the only ones in the restaurant! He personally filleted the snapper, which was absolutely amazing!!! We saw this our first day in Savannah.. we saw that they had a happy hour so we decided to give it a try our second day here plus I love ethnic foods. We had a couple of the cocktails..I had the red panda $8 at happy hour, definitely one of my favorites drink of all times..I'm a big fan of elderflower and chilies and bubbles... our bartender made just perfect, garnish with 3 Thai chilies peppers and cilantro (very refreshing and yet savory at the same time) love love love 5 stars!!! Craving some Indian cuisine, we stumbled across Namaste as a high-rated choice to satisfy. The seemingly good reviews lured us in. So, we decided to order for delivery. The food arrived quick, and was still hot. The only problem? This was the saddest Indian/Nepalese food I've had the displeasure of ordering. And not only was the food extremely subpar, it was also very expensive, our total bill coming out to just over $70 (before delivery fees/tip) for just a few items. The chicken tandoori tasted like the sweet and sour chicken you order at your standard Chinese restaurant. The chicken tikka was bone dry, and had absolutely no sauce with it. What am I to dip 4 giant (also dry, naturally) nans in? Also, why are the both of them covered in onions and green bell peppers? Very strange. The Lassi drinks were obviously made with old yogurt, as you could clearly taste the spoiling. The only decent thing was the tiny $7 container of kheer, but still not worth it in my opinion. The food LOOKED good, so props for that. But if you're expecting some great Indian/Nepalese food, steer clear from Namaste and their exorbitant prices for a mediocre attempt at speciality cuisine. read more

A Business WITHOUT ETHICS. WORST customer Service We ordered for take out since the restaurant was busy at the time we stopped by. The waiter, I think his name was Kunal (?) took the order and said 25-30 minutes. After taking the order, he gives out a different menu, other than what they have at the entrance. Each item is priced higher between $2-$5! And 20% gratuity for take out. We still said ok and ordered food. We had asked him if he can give us any item that was ready since we had not eaten our breakfast and we all were very hungry. First he said yes and then after 35 minutes he said he 'can't promise'. 55 minutes, no sign of our food yet. We went and waited inside and this guy would walk a hundred times past by us knowing very well that we have been waiting for our to go order but forget about acknowledging, he was ignoring us and after 1:15 minutes when we asked, he was extremely rude. An African American wait staff approached as he noticed us waiting for a LONG time and when we said we've been waiting for more than an hour, he was apologetic and he actually went to the kitchen to follow up. NONE other staff even bothered to even acknowledge. Finally after 1:30 minutes after o almost lost my every ounce of patience, we got the food. When we went to the car and checked, guess what ? Couple of items missing. Went back to informed, again and wrong order. Had to go back the third time to get the correct one. Still, not even an apology. I had personally gone to the African American waiter and tipped him $20 since he had the basic courtesy to ask and did the best he could. Finally when we went back and opened all the food, 80% of the items were over cooked, burnt, full of salt, extremely greasy. I'm sure the restaurant owner was right there and it is obvious how Greedy this place is to take advantage of visitors by grossly over charging. I'm checking with GA business / health dept to lodge a formal complaint on them for their business practices. read more
