I attended a small event at the restaurant shortly after it opened. I remember Cibos... a dark & cozy Italian restaurant with lots of tiny nooks and crannies for intimate dining (and carpet). Nami owners gave the restaurant a new look to match the Japanese-Italian fusion theme. It works perfectly. Owners have some other restaurants in the area, but this one has its own vibe with a top 10 location in downtown Monterey, near the Wharf area... and just steps away from the conference center. There's tons of parking in the local garages. Forget street parking as it's limited AND it will limit your experience at Nami since you'll watch your watch instead of enjoying your meal. Waitstaff is skilled and plucked from other local restaurants. F&B is a tough business, but when your team is experienced your odds at success improve greatly. Bathrooms are good sized and clean - no changes here, but why change perfection. Bar has a separate entrance & a stage where live music is performed. Depending on where you sit in the restaurant, you can hear the music - especially with the more open-concept design. Cocktails are yummy, but there's plenty of non-alcoholic options, too. Al fresco dining available, too - great for people-watching. The menu is nice & priced to compete with the other restaurants. I have a soy allergy and would never go to this type of restaurant if it wasn't for a pre-fixe menu. The limited menu options meant the the chef could customize my meal. THANK YOU Overall.. 10 stars. Sorry, Yelp, 5 is just not enough.

3.5 stars $18 Tonkotsu: if they replaced the sad strips of pork with actual charsiu, added some nori, bamboo shoots, a few other garnishes, a proper tare and aroma oil, this would be a pretty darn good miso based tonkotsu ramen. I quite enjoyed the tiramisu though.

I was thrilled to be invited to a fairly new location with a very seasoned team at Nami restaurant in downtown Monterey. This was a lovely culinary experience with a delectable menu, great vibes, soulful music and great company. The service was impeccable. The servers were on point friendly and eager to help it definitely was noticeable How happy and excited the team was to have the event. It was very much appreciated as far as their enthusiasm and eagerness to help. The restaurant is the old Cibos -a long-standing Italian restaurant with a beautiful backstory, and the new ownership did not let the memory die. They are honoring the beautiful woman who started the restaurant still to this day, admirable to say the least. And I would not want to forget to say congratulations on a third location . That's passion -as the owner stated the Restaurant business is pretty hard - from what I can see their love and ambition is leading the way to perfection here... you think Italian Japanese what the heck is going on but folks it works! They have renovated the restaurant so it is so much brighter. It is such a open space the evening light set the mood for a wonderful evening with a very talented singer playing live music as we heard the stories of how the old Italian woman kept this location feeding her community for years,And the new ownership is keeping the location, hustling and bustling. I was very excited that this yelp event was set up how it was. It was definitely experience . The yelp swag was definitely a nice touch. I used my bag the following day for work for lunch. Our gracious host and area leader Alex Really outdid herself. I really enjoyed the evening. My niece was so excited to experience this with me(awesome Nina points) The food was phenomenal. The starters were three appetizers: an Asian salad that was just perfect not too sweet and the presentation was very appealing. There was tuna sashimi, and it was my absolute favorite thing of the night. The sauce was tantalizing. The tuna was extremely fresh and just melted it in your mouth. Pro tip :save some of your wonton strips from your salad and put it on the tuna omggggg ! And don't even get me started with the spicy gyoza soup... the spiciness was perfection. It was not too spicy. It was the absolute right amount- a bigger bowl of the soup and an order of the tuna would've been a complete meal for me and I would've been so very happy. Everything else was just cherries on top. Our selection that we decided on for the main course was the tiki masala Seabass The balsamic glaze on the side of the plate is so important, it elevated the dish in an unexpected delightful way Overall, the event was wonderful. The location is beautiful. The service was impeccable. Again I am so thankful that I was able to attend this event. I will definitely be back with my husband and probably my mom and definitely my niece (Again) P.S get the tuna and thank me later! (it's really that good)

This was quite a treat! Amazing food and cocktails! Nami Restaurant has only been open for a few months, and I expect it to be the go-to restaurant in downtown Monterey if you're looking to impress a date and enjoy a romantic evening out! The very unique Asian fusion menu, which at first doesn't sound or look appetizing, becomes amazing and flavorful with that first bite! You must start off with a drink, and the Lavender Moon Drop is a great start. For appetizers, the two must-tries are the Spicy Gyoza Soup if you like a little kick of spice (this has you covered) and/or the Aji Tuna Sashimi, which is amazing and melts in your mouth. As an entree, the one dish that at first read didn't catch my eye as tempting but was amazing and great tasting was the Butternut Squash Ravioli. You will not be disappointed! The walnut-crusted chicken with the nutmeg cream sauce makes this dish a must-try! Amazing atmosphere, Love the diverse menu and great service. I will definitely be back again.

We came here for a work dinner and let me just say our service was amazing! The staff took care of us and even let us stay after closing while we were talking. I ordered some different appetizers for our group: the cheese bread, crab cakes + shrimp eggrolls. I didn't get to try the cheese bread but the shrimp egg rolls were really good, the crab cakes didn't have much crab in them to be honest. Our group ordered a bunch of different entrees, I got the tikka masala seabags which was honestly ok. The seabass was good and flaky but the sauce, bokchoy and rice didn't go together (IMO). Overall, I wasn't super impressed with the food but again our service was really good so just for that, I would go back and probably try a pasta or something. Also, i will say our espresso martini were pretty good! Not super sweet and really smooth and creamy.

The staff at Nami was great & friendly. They are also extremely dog friendly & have a dog friendly menu which is served in a bowl. The restaurant itself is nice. Drinks are good and reasonably priced. The fusion parts of their food didn't mesh well. The butternut squash ravioli with the components of the dish felt like they said, hey let's make it Asian with some soy sauce seasoning, bok choy, and carrots. Did not enjoy it and would recommend. The steak was great and cooked as we ordered. The mashed potatoes were pretty to look at and tasted like mashed potatoes. We would recommend this. Everything is reasonably priced as well considering the area. I would come back only for the friendly everything (staff, for dogs, for kids) & drinks.

The Shrimp Scampi at NAMI was absolutely worth it. The shrimp were large, plentiful, and incredibly fresh. The sauce was rich and flavorful with a nice kick of spice that wasn't overpowering, and the pasta was cooked perfectly. The portion size and quality fully matched the price point. Service made the experience even better. Milan was fantastic -- personable from the moment I walked in, asked about my weekend, shared some history of the restaurant, and checked in consistently throughout my meal. He was truly a delight from start to finish. Overall, a great experience -- highly recommend if you're in Monterey.

Food was amazing and the ambience was perfect. Our waiter, Pedro was very on top of things, gave us space but checked in often, gave us time to talk and we didn't feel rushed at all. The drinks are different but really good, I'm not a big drinker but I liked every drink I had on their cocktail menu. Overall, it's a really good place for dinner and lunch too. We have been a handful of times overall and it's worth the visit every time. Definitely give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

My husband and I made a reservation at Nami on a Friday night, and we haven't stopped raving about it since. We're so excited to finally have a fusion restaurant like this in Monterey, it's been long overdue! If you're dining with someone indecisive, this is the perfect spot since the menu has something for everyone, including some great vegetarian options. From the moment we stepped inside, we loved the ambiance and decor it immediately set the vibe for our date night & from the moment we arrived, we were greeted right away and felt welcomed and comfortable throughout our entire visit. We started with the calamari, crab cakes, and vegetable tempura, and all were excellent choices. The calamari was uniquely paired with fried bell peppers, fennel, and lemon pieces, which worked surprisingly well together. The aioli on the side had a nice kick that elevated the dish. The crab cakes tasted incredibly fresh from the bay and were complemented beautifully by the lemon sauce and caramelized onions. The vegetable tempura was another highlight, with a great variety of veggies, each lightly battered and perfectly crispy without feeling too heavy. For our entrees, I ordered the miso egg drop tofu soup with a California roll and hubby had the ribeye. The miso soup was easily one of the best I've tried and the California roll was satisfying and filling. The ribeye was cooked to a perfect medium rare; tender, flavorful, and paired wonderfully with the chimichurri and peppercorn sauces. What really stood out to us beyond the food was how attentive and accommodating the staff were. Overall, this was truly a 1000/10 experience. If you're on the fence, just give it a try.. you don't want to miss out on a place like Nami!

I stumbled upon this new restaurant in Monterey the other day and I was pleasantly surprised. This place is beautiful, perfect for a date night or meeting up with friends and family. They have a great bar, and a great location right next to the Portola Hotel. I was not crazy hungry so I had some apps. The shrimp egg roll was amazing! A must try. The calamari was crispy and tender. I've been a waiter for a long time and I want to shout out Pedro for his amazing service. He is kind, efficient, and knows exactly when to show up. All in all I had a great time and will definitely be back! Thanks Nami for showing me a great time !

I wanted to try this place after it's grand opening, reviews and write ups were good. I tried it when it was Cibo and was not too impressed, as the restaurant seemed to focus on getting tourists in, and so much on food. I feared the new Nami would do the same. Turns out my fear might have been right. My husband and I went in on the second opening night. It was a Thursday, but one would think that for a grand opening, not to mention all people in town for an event at the Golden State Theater, the restaurant would be busy. I ordered a craft cocktail, which was good. But there was so many variations on the menu, Japanese, Italian - Steak with bok choy? My husband was interested in ribeye but not the bok choy. In short, the menu was too confusing with too many items to think about. With all these items, the prices were pretty high also. If we were to pay $50 per steak, we'd go to a steakhouse. If we're gonna pay around $30 for Ramen, we go to Japanese restaurant. We paid for the drink and ended up leaving to go somewhere else, that a more straightforward menu and livelier vibe - the cooks in the back looked bored. I feel the prices and many options are catering more to tourist. Perhaps if I have family coming to visit, I may go back to try it again. read more

WOW! My first time at Nami was absolutely amazing. From the service, to ambiance, to quality of food; everything was knocked out of the park. We started with the crab cakes and it really got us excited for our main dishes. They were absolutely to die for. I got the filet and added a lobster tail and it was one of the best dishes I've had from a restaurant in a long time. The filet truly melted in my mouth and the lobster was cooked perfectly. This is the perfect date night spot and would highly recommend trying it out, you absolutely will not regret it! read more

After a day of golfing, I was craving pasta. We walked across the street to this restaurant & decided to come in. First, I ordered my lemon drop martini, yum. And I am very picky. But the bartender nailed it. And then I decided on the Chili Garlic Shrimp Scampi. IT WAS AMAZING!!!!!! So much flavor!! I would have taken a picture but it was so good, I didn't want to put my fork down. Our waitress was extremely friendly & super sweet. Inside the restaurant was very nice, but it was such a gorgeous evening, we wanted to sit outside. I wish we were staying longer so I could have my meal again. read more

Sadly, our first try of the new Nami was a disappointment. The menu seems like they are trying to be everything to everyone or at least Japanese and Italian, which is very odd. I ordered spring rolls with spicy peanut sauce and out came fried egg rolls with hoisin sauce and a sweet chili sauce. ‍ We also ordered the Wahoo sashimi and Tuna Sashimi. The waiter came back over after a bit and told us they were out of Wahoo. The service was friendly but inconsistent. Food came out very slowly. They obviously have some kinks to work out. read more

We had dinner reservation at our favorite Japanese restaurant for my Granddaughter Birthday for party of 8. Unfortunately, upon arrival there was power outage in the area. After checking a number of restaurants in the area, we were able to get a reservation at Nami a so-called Japanese fusion restaurant. A nicely decorated restaurant with menu that is made up of Pizza & Pasta, Sashimi & Sushi and Meats and Fish Entrees. With very little fusion to speak of! We started with Calamari appetizer which was well prepared. Also had Salmon Yuzu Sashimi which was presented in a nice floral pattern. The sauce was very lite flavor & we needed to get some soy sauce. We have had much fresher salmon sashimi. For our entrees we had: * Tonkatsu Ramen normally my Granddaughter favorite. Nami version is definitely not Tonkatsu broth, we all tasted it and had bits of meat and an egg. She was not able to eat it, disapointing. * Shrimp Tempura Roll was ok at best. * Miso Snapper was ok, but no miso flavor * 2 orders of Tika Masla Sea Bass. Fish was moist and well! prepared. The Tika Masla sauce was nondescript. Not like one would get at Indian Restaurant or TJ. * Coconut Prawns & Scallops was salty but well prepared. * Peperoni Pizza was very good We may be spoiled as we moved here San Jose area, where have expectational ethnic restaurants, including Japanese Italian Fusion. But this restaurant is not a Fusion, but offering different cuisines that are not hitting any target yet!! read more

Stopped in on family vacation and found a pleasant ambiance and friendly service. They made us a fun and festive mocktail. Pizza, oysters rockafeller, prawn paparadelle, and tuna poke was delicious. Music playing but at a volume that allowed dinner conversation. Not a chain. Will return the next time we are in town. Lunch at Nami did not disappoint! The service was thorough and friendly. The dishes we ordered were delicious. We started off with the ahi sashimi, which was melt in your mouth good. The sauce it had was also yummy. We tried the raw oysters and they were fresh and creamy, and came with some good horseradish. For our lunch entrees, I got the bento box and my fiancé got the skirt steak sandwich. Tempura had a perfect crunch, the chicken was juicy, rice was fluffy, and the salad was fresh. My fiancé was stoked on his sandwich, his steak was tender, the veggies were cooked perfectly, the aioli was good, the bread was great, and the fries were crispy and stayed that way throughout the duration of our lunch. We will definitely be coming back to try more items on the menu and enjoy the good vibes. read more

If you're in Monterey, you have to try Nami. Such a fun spot! The music was great and the whole vibe was cool but still relaxed. I got the spicy rigatoni and it was sooo good! The lavender moon drop cocktail was light, a little floral, and delicious. Plus the birthday cheesecake was phenomenal!! Shoutout to our server Juan for being so sweet and attentive. Here in town for a vacation. Juan our server was top notch. Nami has a very welcoming atmosphere. Juan went above and beyond to get us what we needed and made sure we were taken care of. The music playing in the back ground was a good vibe but not too loud. The Japanese/Italian mix is something you didn't know you needed. The Spicy Rigatoni was delicious. I would recommend the plate. A few of the others at the table got sushi and said it was phenomenal. Overall I would recommend this to anyone. Has something to eat for everyone. Husband and I decided to visit this restaurant on 2/13. Made reservation, no wait time upon arrival. We found the restaurant to be clean, aesthetically pleasing (decorated with hanging faux greenery, big vases with pink faux flowers, white tablecloths and a small flower vase as centerpiece). Juan our server was professional, friendly, and gave great recommendations. Husband and I ordered the spicy crab sushi roll, Tika Masala Seabass, and Spicy vodka Rigatoni (added prawns). I was very impressed with how fresh everything tasted, and the amount of prawns on the plate. It was a nice surprise to see the tika masala sauce came on the side (I personally used it all). Everything was delicious, fresh, and we are definitely coming back. It was an added bonus that the bar area is separated from main dining room, and there are outside tables as well. I would give this a 0 star review if I could. To start- We had an 8:15 reservation and went to the bar upon arrival. There was zero acknowledgment from either bartender. Although we were seated on time, we waited about 15 minutes before anyone approached our table. No one introduced themselves until I stopped a passing waitress to ask who our server was. She returned to say she would be assisting us. From there, the delays continued. After waiting roughly 30 minutes, we had to ask about our appetizers. The raw oysters finally came out, but we again had to follow up on our second appetizer before it was brought to the table. Another 15-20 minutes passed before I had to ask about our starter soup. When our $50 steak entrée arrived, it was cold. This restaurant previously served Italian cuisine--which was consistently good--but since switching to Japanese fusion, the quality has dropped significantly. The sashimi and poke were dry, lacked flavor, and came with no sauces. The ambiance also didn't match the new concept; it still felt very Italian, and the live music didn't complement the dining experience. Overall, it was a disappointing and expensive dinner. The only positive was the shared bonding moment with other guests who were experiencing the same poor service. read more

3 of us ate. Very strange menu. Almost too varied. Seafood, pasts & Japanese. I think they're trying to figure out what they are. We shared a fried calamari dish. Un inspiring. Have had better other places. I had the sea bass which was a very small portion. Another had butternut ravioli with tough breaded thin chicken pieces. Very strange! Can't really recommend them this early. Definitely not worth the high prices! Service was good though. read more

We had a show to go to at the Golden State theatre and I wanted to treat my friend who got the tickets. After reading reviews, I knew it might be a 50/50 shot, but I'm glad we went here. I arrived way too early and was starving, and knowing my friend does not like anything spicy, and I rarely have a meal without something spicy, I ordered a spicy crab roll. It was not spicy at all, but when asked the waiter kindly brought me extra dried chile so I could dip it. Problem solved! For dinner, I had the coconut prawns and scallops and my friend had the prawn and mushroom pappardelle pasta which she loved! The coconut prawns had some sort of sweet white sauce on top, which kind of took away from the perfectly cooked coconut crunch, and tasty prawn which was really the star of the plate. The scallops were also cooked perfectly, and were served on a delicate brown but indiscernible sauce, the mixed veggies (Brussels, carrots, cauliflower) while overcooked and mushy were very tasty. The waiter was great, but was not supported well by bus staff and I had to ask for refills of tea three times, which I felt bad for, because there were only two waiters working the rather large dining room. The busser came by once and offered to fill my tea glass with water, but when I said it's tea, he said "oh" and walked to other tables to look to see who needed more water. So, all in all it was a good dining experience, I would order the same dish again, sans sauce or one of the other interesting dishes on the menu. The place as described by many others is very lively and decorated comfortably and lovely. This place could easily get me to a five star rating with tiny tweaks. I look forward to another visit. read more

WOW! My husband & I went to Nami as we heard of the buzz of a new restaurant in the area, safe to say we will continue to go again & again. The ambience, service & amazing flavors from each dish left us feeling happy, full & ready for our next experience! We started with (cocktails of course, so good!) and for food- the Shrimp Egg Rolls & Veggie Tempura followed by the Tiki Seabass & Spicy Gyoza Soup- definitely recommend these dishes & we can't wait to try more! read more

Made a reservation for Cibo on Open Table and learned it is under new owners by the name of "Nami". Menu had an interesting combo of seafood, Thai, and Italian food. Wasn't sure how it would all be but food was delicious. The staff was accommodating to modifications. Service a little slow, but it was also New Years Day. read more

I was excited to experience the new Japanese flare after the rebranding from Cibo this past Saturday, but unfortunately the sushi was by far the worst I've ever had. We shared two different rolls and they were equally awful. I also had the ribeye steak which was very thin and full of gristle. I'm sorry to say we definitely won't be coming back. read more

We had an incredible experience for dinner just before going to a concert at the Golden State Theatre. From the host to the waiter, everyone was so kind and hospitable. It seems perfect for someone who wants to stay in a solid hotel with easy access to the course. It includes a spa (didn't try), tennis+pickleball, and the requisite restaurant and clubhouse. Staff here are super friendly, food is solid, and as an avid pickle and tennis player myself, I loved having the courts nearby. The gym is also pretty good compared to other hotel gyms. If I were to pick up golf and play regularly, I would probably come for a quick weekend golf trip.

First walking in the room, we noticed a weird smell and the bathroom smelled like somebody had just used it . The carpet in the bedroom is old and dirty looking. The bathroom shower and bathroom share one combined floor so when you use the shower, the entire floor gets soaked. I had to use up all the towels to soak up the water on the floor so we didn't slip and fall. When you flush the toilet it sounds like a hurricane. If you plan on using the bathroom during the night, be prepared to wake up everyone. You can also hear the toilet flushing in any room near yours. Also, there's no sink countertop, it's a stand alone sink so there's no place to put your stuff and get ready. You can hear the people in the next room like they are sitting in your room. The door to get into the building did not latch close on its own so anyone could walk into the building. Also when you check in, they charge an additional $20 parking fee, a $35 recreational fee and a refundable $50 fee. This was on top of the $369 cost of the room. I almost forgot I was awakened in the middle of the night to several people in the hallway, saying there was somebody running down our hallway and had just went up the stairs. This was probably because the building doors didn't latch like I mentioned above. For this price, I suggest you shop around and a smaller, cleaner, quieter, and newer hotel. This was a big disappointment for a Hyatt hotel, and not up to their standards.
