Nando's Peri-Peri is a place I've visited on both of my recent trips to Chicago. This particular location is in the "Loop" area and is super convenient to many places Downtown. The star of the show here is Peri-Peri Chicken! This is a spicy grilled chicken with a Peri-Peri sauce that seems to be of Portuguese/South African origin. Unless you are adverse to spices in general, you should probably order Medium to get the full flavor effect. They recommend you order the half chicken, and this is probably a good idea if you are a big eater as the chicken parts are kind of small (although most tender and juicy). Then they also have other options, including wraps and bowls. Some of these also feature chicken! These are also tasty. Pretty much every dish can be ordered with a selection of side or sides. I'm in favor of the Macho Peas (spiced green peas) or the Turmeric Cauliflower. The interior is interesting, with bright and colorful decor. When I've been in they have had you go to the corner and order, then you sit at a numbered table where they bring your order to you. So, you might want to stake out your table first then go to the counter. They seem to have a robust take out business as well! read more

Stopped by this Nando's for a late night snack and it was probably 15 minutes before they were closing on a Sunday night! Unsurprisingly, they were sold out of just about everything, but surprisingly, they weren't sold out of their best offerings -- their peri-peri chicken! We got a few chicken pieces to-go and they comped us some of the leftover spicy rice they had as well, and it all really hit the spot for that late night snack we were looking for! I know that Nando's is a chain, but I also can't help it. It's from the UK and I don't get to have it often, so I will go out of my way if I find out I'm in a city that has Nando's OK!? I was thoroughly impressed by the quality of the chicken even so late in the day, it's honestly better than so many other chicken-based US chains out there, none of which will be named, on a good day! Nandos is one of my favorite chains that's accessible in Chicago. I've been to multiple locations, multiple times, and the food is consistently good. This location was no different! We decided on Nando's for lunch while downtown for our group of 3. This location you grab a table, which has a number on it, and let the cashier know your table number when you order. Although I love the bowls on the menu, today I opted for my favorite of Nandoca's choice. There's a reason this one is highlighted in that little box on the menu! This is honestly just the highest tier of chicken sandwich. You get to choose which peri-peri sauce you want, and it comes with their coleslaw and served on garlic bread. I also always add on perinaisse for my fries, don't miss out! I was a little disappointed on this trip with the Coke freestyle machine. There were 0 flavors available, and several drink options out. I ended up with water, but had already paid for my soda. TL;DR: If you're in the South Loop for lunch, you have plenty of other options for the price. Nando's is basically Chipotle for peri-peri: good but nothing special. Stopped by here for a quick bite since it was so well-rated, and we ended up gabbing a mango-lime peri-peri chicken bowl to go. The flavors were good--love the marinade, just wish the flavors came through stronger, and the chicken was dry. I can get similar quality for half the price from my work cafeteria. I've never been but have heard nothing but excellent things about ~cheeky~ Nando's so I was SO excited to stop in for a bite! Thankfully, I had a veteran with me to guide me through the experience. The chicken bowl I had was absolutely fabulous and customizable. Nando's is a fast casual style restaurant so it's perfect for a quick bite on your lunch break. Our food came relatively fast and the staff did bring the plates out to our table. On the back counter there's a selection of Nando's specialty sauces for you to try. Overall, I found this location to be pretty nice and clean. I've hard the Nando's off of Michigan Ave can get a bit chaotic so this could be a better location to choose to avoid the hustle and bustle. read more

He inspected the hair and walked away came back brought replacement and then came back to say "you know that wasn't our hair it was you guys' hair. The cook has dreadlocks". The hair that was found was black thick short hair. My daughters have long light brown hair. I told him the hair was embedded in the food and the server continued to accuse us of it being their hair and said "embedded? Really embedded? Okay.." While having an aggressive demeanor and rude. The whole situation was uncalled for. The manager did stop by and offer complimentary dessert but after that encounter our experience was ruined and we just wanted to leave. I am not sure why the ratings are so high, but I must have gone on an off day. I came here with coworkers and had the following experience: First, we waited to be seated. It is a bit unclear as to if there is waiter service or what the mechanism for ordering is. We went up to place our order. We waited in line to do so behind two people (on the same order), and somehow this alone took 10 minutes. Once we started ordering, the woman at the counter asked us things but we could barely hear her, since she was basically whispering. Oddly enough, she had an airpod in one ear. I am a big fan of wireless headphones and listening to music on them, but not when I am doing something customer facing. After this, we sat and waited for our orders. I got a Freestyle soda - these machines are wonderful, but this one in particular worked just enough to mostly fill the cup, sputtering afterwards. I got my food way before everyone else at my table. The food itself was OK - the chicken was not as tender as usual, and it also seemed a tiny step up from undercooked, enough to make me a bit nervous (others at the table thought it looked fine). Hard to cut plus barely cooked enough - the worst of both worlds to me. I wanted to wait for everyone else to get their orders, so I did for a while. I am not exaggerating, but 20 minutes into lunch (this was not a lunch rush - busy but not crowded, maybe 65% full), no one had their food except me, so I ate by that point. More time went by, and by the time 30 minutes had gone by (at a fast casual chain, no less), everyone else got their food. This was honestly insane. The ambiance was very friendly, well-lit and service was great. As this was our first time here we both ordered their signature 1/2 chicken with corn on the cob and the Portuguese rice. Let me tell you that it is a lot of food for two! The chicken was well seasoned, the hot chicken was great and wonderfully spicy, medium was more on the milder side. I recommend to order dark meat though as the breast was pretty dry. Everything else was pretty tasty. For drinks we had sangria which was tasty too. Service is friendly but the set up is self serve. Your food is brought to your table but silverware, extra sauces, and condiments are available for patrons to get on their own. I love that they provide nutrition info on all their menu options. I love the decor and the theme of the restaurant. It's African and Latin inspired and they play diverse music and have international art and decor on the walls. They also sell their signature spices and sauces as well. You place your order up at the counter, pick your own sauce and spice level for your chicken. I go with medium heat, and I get extra sauces for my meal. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I ordered a half chicken with corn and seasonal veggies. There rice and garlic bread are also very good. Parking is as can be expected for this down town Chicago location. This literally exceeded my expectations of what I had for it. I honestly thought I'd just be meh with it and think that it's over hyped but it really isn't. The chicken is super tender, flavorful and super well seasoned. The rice was pretty good as well, a good little side filler! Since we were both new to Nando's and saw how many sauces there were, we got little cuppies of each one. You can definitely tell that we're new here... I honestly wish we had Nando's in California just because it'd be such a good post workout meal that's fast, healthy and tasty. c: The service was also through the roof... The workers gave us recommendations and walked through the menu. As you can imagine I have very high expectations as I've been hearing about how great it is for the past 10 years. And it still exceeded my expectations. My friend and I shared the half chicken and got a side of brussel sprouts and rice. We of course had to try all of the iconic sauces along with our meal and I loved almost every single one of them! The chicken was so juicy and the flavors were so unlike anything I tasted before with chicken. I really enjoyed dipping it in all of the different sauces. They have a range from mild to extremely hot. They also have some garlic based sauces and those were honestly the best! The rice was delicious as well. The service was amazing! The employees came up to us multiple times to check up on us especially because they knew it was our first time. The manager as well came out and checked on all the patrons and helped meet their needs. Which is amazing. I've almost never had a manager check up on me anywhere, especially at a fast food restaurant! I am so sad that they don't have any locations on the west coast!! They advertise ranch as an option for the fries (its on their menu), but alas, we were told they do not serve ranch. Not a big deal. My partner also ordered the chicken and unfortunately my meal came out 10 minutes earlier than theirs. By the time the second meal came, my chicken was cold. The coleslaw was on the drier side and the fries were nothing special, just regular fries. Now onto the hot sauces...I LOVE spicy. I had to sample all of them. I decided to try Nando's peri peri chicken for dinner. I had it delivered and was surprised at how everything fit in one bag. When I opened the bag, I found out how it all fit, all the containers were very small. The only normal sized container was the chicken bowl. We ordered the peri peri chicken bowl with a side of mashed potatoes, but the sent more rice instead of the mashed potatoes. We also ordered 6 wings which were really small. And 3 thighs which were small because they were boneless. This made them easier to eat. We ordered hot and it tasted pretty good. On the side we had fries with perinaise sauce, good. We ordered the sweet potatoes which were different but also good. The garlic bread was not crisp but tasted good. The haloumi cheese was pretty good, sort of like tofu but with a squeaky texture. Not bad. I would like to eat at the restaurant and see how it turns out. But overall not a bad experience. read more

We were able to get all white meat which is great because I usually get the breast when I'm ordering for myself. We had the mango sauce on the chicken while it was cooked, but used every other sauce in addition to our various bites and it mixed well. (Strangely I think the "hot" sauce is spicier than the "extra hot"). The platter has plenty of chicken was 3 people it says it comes with 2 large sides.
