I think you need to know about this place before you go. If you've never been, it could be confusing. We had never been. I had heard good things but not specifics! We chose to sit as we had time before the movie. The young lady asked if it was our first time and I said Yes! She rambles on about how to order by scanning the QR code and if you want to pay by cash, walk up to the girl at the front! That was the extent of the conversation. She walked away. No opportunity for questions which I had????? Like what should we order??? For one!!!! You should order the CHICKEN!!!! We didn't know! The menu we scanned didn't recommend that and neither did she! We ordered a few small plates to share and a pitcher of their SANGRIA!!! Trust me, don't bother! It was like drinking water! And no fruit, actually 2 pieces of fruit that looked like they had been recycled about 15 times! No pictures- too gross. Also, FYI, they do not offer a big variety of cocktails or any at all. One or two beers and a few wines and then the nasty watered down overpriced sangria. Pop and lemonade and I believe that's it!!!! Not a big variety on the menu for drinks or food to be honest!!! The ambiance is great. Very nicely decorated!! Music was also a great selection. Food was good. We liked it! The hummus was fresh tasting. It wasn't anything extraordinary!!! The pita was probably purchased. It didn't taste like it was made that day! The olives were delicious. But I could buy them at any Italian deli. Sorry :( The halloumi cheese was good but very salty!!! I have never had such salty halloumi cheese! Never offered water because there isn't really servers. Big shoutout to the staff at the OakBrook location, the whole experience top to bottom, left to right and everything in-between was phenomenal. Everyone including Management is working hard while it's busy on a Saturday the week before Christmas but doing things with a smile and kicking butt. As soon as you walk in you're greeted in and asked if you'll dine in or do carryout. I chose carryout went to the register got my meal from my yelp perks and ordered some additonal things for the family. The lemon and herb was soooo good on the chicken. Great attentive service multiple times staff checked on us. To be honest I went to Nando's a couple of years back initial time was amazing then the second time chicken was bone dry and rice bland. It kind of depends on the cook but it was this exact same place. But decided to finally come back as the food court is overpriced at oakbrook and the food is gross like cafeteria food. However on a whim decided to give Nandos a third try. Chicken was nicely charred meat was juicy moist and fell off the bone. The rice was fragrant and delicious. Peas was an interesting taste with the parsley, mint and spices I usually don't like peas too much but the spices were great on it, and the Nando sauce was always amazingly distinct and super tasty. I wish I could say better things. I came on a Saturday night. Nando's seemed pretty empty, yet we still had to wait for a table. The hostess told us 15 minutes but it ended up being closer to 25 minutes. She brought us to our table and explained the ordering process. We placed the order on our phone and the receipt said our order should be ready at certain time when in reality it didn't come till much later. We ordered the full chicken platter with a side of brussels and sweet potatoes. I'm not sure why it came with two bowls of brussels? It was a very decent portion of food perfect for 3ish people. I really enjoyed the sides but after a few bites of the chicken I started to feel sick. The lemon & herb flavoring adding a nice touch of flavor without any heat but not sure why the chicken made me feel so nauseous. The cauliflower was good, but nothing to write home about. The best part of the meal was undoubtedly the perinaise, which was the right blend of creamy and bright. Peri Peri has a delicious flavor, I ended up buying some sauce at the store to attempt to recreate what I had here. The flavor will be unique for most, but not too out of left field for those wondering. YouTube or Google prolly can describe it better, it's delicious though. Nando's is more of a fast causal place with decent amount of menu options, you also can choose your spicy level as well. Tried Nando's chicken peri-peri bowl for the first time. It was very good however I also ordered the 1/4 chicken breast entree as well to share. I think I prefer the entree over the bowl. The bowl was delicious but I didn't think it was enough chicken. The sides here are my favorite. Yummy mashed potatoes, Portuguese rice and the corn. I love Nandos's juicy, citrus-y, spicy chicken with all my heart so I was delighted to see that there was a location just seconds away from my hotel. In fact, I was so delighted that I had lunch and dinner here! If you want to hit this location up, it's in the top level of the mall near the District food court. Purple or red parking lots are the closest. Like all Nando's you order at the counter and grab your silverware, drink and napkins. You food will be brought out to your table. As always I went for the "hot" chicken and as always it was everything I wanted it to be. You have lots of side options - I like the peas, spicy rice or garlic mashed potatoes. I hear their grilled corn is amazing too - I'll try it next time. I also hear that they have amazing Portuguese egg tarts but I was super full - next time. What really makes this location great is a super friendly staff. Their host Josh was about as genuinely friendly and welcoming as a person can be. We had some errand to do at the mall, so we visited here for a quick lunch. It was very interesting to use their no-contact style of ordering system. After you get a seat, you can see your table number. You need that number to finish the order. Next, you scan the QR code on the table to go to the menu. Finish your order on your phone with typing in your table #. One of employees came up to our table for a quick question immediately, which shows their ordering system works fast and properly. Our order: Chicken tenders bowl with hummus and mango lime sauce 1/2 chicken with Portugal rice and plain-ish sauce Pineapple lemonade Mango lemonade Mango lemonade was out on that day, so we ended up getting pineapple lemonade, which was refreshing between spicy dipping sauce (garlic, wild herbs, medium, hot, and extra hot) 1/2 chicken was great. So juicy inside and crispy skin outside. I was happy that I chose "plain-ish" sauce. It was not spicy but flavorful just without dipping sauce. Very enjoyable meal. Portugal rice was not dry and easy to eat with a fork. (They did not offer spoons on the counter). It really matches with medium and wild herb dipping sauce, so I would recommend "plain-ish" sauce and getting dipping sauce on the side instead of ordering a spicy flavor. Chicken in the tender bowl was literally so tender and easy to eat. Hummus, roasted red pepper cubes, corns, arugula leaves came with the bed of Portugal rice. This is a healthier choice for lunch time, everything matches really well. So if you feel like salad, I do recommend this item. I respect their well working ordering system and friendly atmosphere. I have no complaint for the meals. If I can nitpick, maybe silverwares on the counter might feel a little icky during Covid time. I underestimated their chicken bowls! I was thinking it would be on the smaller side so I was pleasantly surprised to see how big it was. I ordered the peri-peri chicken bowl and it came with rice, hummus, arugula, corn and roasted tomatoes. You also have your choice of chicken flavor so I ended up doing the lemon herb. A little confusing if you come in the back way which would be through the restroom door LMAO! . Have no fear if you're in this area as I've included a picture and you are very close by!! So because of this coming in through the back way it was a little difficult to navigate to the front area where the host is. I tried this spot last week while hanging out a friend's place and he loves it and orders from here all the time. I decided to try the Peri Peri chicken tender bowl. Our Uber eats arrived in a decent amount of time so it was still warm fortunately. Nice flavors, everything was well seasoned; very similar to Mediterranean cuisine in my opinion. My disappointment came from the chicken. They gave me 3 of the smallest chicken tenders I've ever seen in my life. I can bigger tenders out of a pack at Walmart! Wow, I am so happy we finally got to try Nando's! I'd heard about it for years from my family in the UK, and I'd seen the Oakbrook location but hadn't had a chance to come in yet. Stopped by for a late lunch here on a Saturday. The place had a decent amount of people dining in. We were were greeted right when we walked in and seated right away. We were hungry so we got the full chicken platter with the two large sides. This whole platter came out in less than ten minutes and was served HOT, in the best possible way. The chicken was cooked perfectly; the skin was slightly crisp and the chicken was moist. We got the mashed potatoes and fries for sides and the potatoes won. They were bursting with flavor, creamy, and not too much garlic. If you come here with someone and want the same thing(s) I definitely recommend sharing this platter because there is so much food for $27. My favorite part? The sauces!!! I like the self serve aspect so you can try anything you want really. I love the lemon, garlic & herb and the medium garlic peri peri sauce. As prompted, I gave the host my number and double checked it twice. However, almost 45 mins later I didn't receive a call so decided to head back. Upon arrival, I was told that the number I had given them went to a pizza restaurant. I said it was fine and we got seated outside (which by now was super open with plenty of tables available). We were told to use the app or scan the QR code to order but of course neither the website or app appeared to be working. We tried on both of our phones and also noticed it wasn't working for those sitting around us either. We were told by the staff to go to the counter to order - and of course the line to order by now was around 15-20 people. We decided to leave after waiting close to an hour of our lives (without children). The service here was very friendly and they have outdoor seating which is a plus. The restaurant could be cleaner. There was a lot of litter on the ground and close to the seats outside. They don't offer disposable plates which makes it harder to eat your food. First time here, heard raves about it. The chicken thighs with skin were very tasty, pretty much like El Pollo Loco in my old home California, only maybe smaller, but the skin here wasn't as crispy. Sauces were all tasty. Cole slaw was nice but not crazy good. Cucumber salad was lame; just cut-up pieces with some pickled onion, but the poppy seed dressing was on the side so not marinated; way overpriced for what it is. Garlic roll was not as expected from description; sounded nice & luscious like Sbarro's all garlicky & buttery; actually just a halved plain roll, spread with slightly garlicky butter & toasted, seemed a bit stale, nothing at all special...and NOT worth the (apparently) 350 calories for one whole roll. YIKES. Lesson learned. All in all, chicken good, rest ok, maybe good for a group but not really worth going out of the way and certainly not worth the $20 I paid. This is a great spot for a decently priced dinner in a lovely mall location. It is in the area of the mall where most of the food spots are found. From my visit, this shop appears to be well patronized. The interior was relaxed but well kept. The walk-up-and-order format allowed for quick service as the friendly counter person was quite efficient. The menu, of course, featured chicken with various flavorings ranging from mildly to moderately spicy. I had the Mango-Lime half chicken with a salad and corn on the cob as accompaniments. I enjoyed my dinner quite a lot. The food with drink, tax and tip was a little over $20, which was a reasonable deal. This was my first time dining with this restaurant - it's been one so many people rave about in regard to the chicken! So glad that I finally went with my boyfriend and got the 12 wings and 2 sides. I can say I do like the concept of ordering and then waiting for your server to give you your food. Yet as a first timer I didn't get a chance to really look at the menu in depth and have more time that you might've if you were seated and waiting for your waiter/server but either way was fine with my order! As for the dining experience we decided to do outdoor patio dining (due to covid) and was slightly confused as for the table seating system... The host give you a number placement that I assumed is so when your order comes up the server can see you and give your order...this was not the case you have to sit where the number placement is which was kind of odd to me; but anyways - the server and host were very nice and accommodating when we sat at the table of our choice. Ok now to the food - those wings and food overall was very good! The sauces are what makes the difference! Love this because I'm a Big Dipper lol I love sauces on most food especially chicken! I had high hopes for this, after hearing that it was a South African cuisine and seeing the beautiful pictures on Yelp. The restaurant definite has a more trendy and upscale vibe to it. Cooked just about right where it's not dry but not overcooked -- skin has a good amount of char but isn't extremely crispy. The marination is just enough to have flavor without the sauces but light enough where adding sauces doesn't make it too salty. Peri-chips - Nice and crisp and hearty -- I wish I got more potato flavor from it. It was a bit bland on its own but quite addictive if you add the mayo. Red Skin Mashed Potato - Chunky and delicious with the garlic butter flavor clearly being the star of the dish. Sauces - Ranges from pretty spicy to very spicy with some variations such as garlic or lemon-herb. Add a delicious depth of flavor to the dishes. Lemonades - Fresh and tasty, but the flavors aren't that special. Chocolate spoon cake -- looks small, but is actually very densely packed with chocolate. Not too sweet and a perfect way to end the meal Overall, it wasn't really a disappointing experience but it wasn't too special either. I was hoping it was going to be a more unique flavor but in the end it wasn't too different from going to other good rotisserie and brick chicken places in Chicagoland. But, prices are good and portion sizes are huge -- so it's a great place to take a group of friends or family on a visit to Oakbrook Center. read more
