My friend and I met at this Nando's location since it's mid-way between where we both live. It wasn't too busy this past Tuesday evening, so we were able to sit wherever we wanted. It took 20+ minutes for our food to come out, which is longer than we had hoped. 1/4 CHICKEN - BREAST (+2 SIDES) = 13.39 + CORN ON THE COB +2 for BRUSSELS SPROUTS I got the chicken plain-ish because I wasn't feeling any spice, but I think some spice and sauce would have helped because the chicken breast was so dry. It was underwhelming, and I know I can get better chicken elsewhere. The brussels sprouts were smothered with sauce and grilled well (not too crispy so it tasted healthy). It probably wasn't worth the $2 up-charge for them. The corn on the cob was my favorite. It was really sweet, crunchy and juicy. I love nando's and wish they are available in NorCal where I'm from. I knew about Nando's when I first tried it in Australia. I looked it up and I believe the chain started in South Africa. I love the way chicken is grilled and how they kept the dark meat, fat, and skin which is exactly how foodies want their chickens. I also love the sauce and even for the extra hot it's really not that spicy but very flavorful. However I do recommend first timers to try medium or hot not extra hot. The chicken is extremely tender just like how El Pollo Loco grills the chicken except it's even more grilled so some parts are charred which is just perfect. Africans know their chickens and I concur wholeheartedly. In Australia the restaurant is mostly fast food style but here it's slightly a cross between fast food and sit down. The decors are simple with some African influence but very welcoming. Personally I'd prefer this is more fast food like because sit-down always seems to give too serious a vibe for a quick meal but it's just a personal preference so doesn't matter. My favorite is the 2 legs which include the thighs and also the wings. If they open up in NorCal I'll eat it every week as this is literally the second meal in two different nando's I've had within 3 days. I fondly remember eating at Nando's my first time. I truly enjoyed it and looked forward to coming back to DC just so I could eat there again. I suppose the food is still good, but I would avoid this location if you can. Although it is located near a residential tower and office buildings where you would think there would be a lot of foot traffic, the reality is that this spot is often empty, which means that instead of focusing on serving the people who do come, they prioritize fulfilling DoorDash orders at this particular spot. I recently went here two times, once for lunch and the second for dinner. Both times, I ordered to go, and both times I had to wait between 30-40 minutes for my order, even though the restaurant was empty. They make the food once the order is placed, without prioritizing food for people who are there in person. It is utterly ridiculous to see food packed in bags waiting for dashers to come get. I sat there for 30 minutes before they even looked at my order, coming to tell me that they are out of Brussel sprouts. . To their credit, the staff is very nice and patient. But they are essentially out of their depth and don't know anything about customer service or basic common sense. I won't give up on Nando's, but I will give up on this spot. read more

The staff checked on me multiple times too despite ordering at the counter. Standard Nando's. I ordered a chicken breast sandwich but after placing my order was informed that they were out, and was offered a switch to the chicken thigh sandwich. I enjoyed my sandwich and fries. Nothing to write home about but the lunch deals at least let you have your money's worth. I feel that the regular prices are a bit too high for the amount of food you get. The layout of the restaurant is a bit weird - the FOH staff sort of stand with their backs to you because the kitchen counter is directly opposite the door and there is no table for them to use. This is the first time I've ever written a review. What a waste of money. I thought a place specializing in chicken would make some good chicken, but I was mistaken. My "chicken" bowl came with a tiny, dry, and bland piece of chicken breast. As you can see in the picture, it is tiny compared to my hand (I'm not a big guy at 5 foot 5). Imagine my delight when I found out that there was a location across from Rosslyn station mere blocks from my appointment. If you go, know that the Yelp address is misleading - it's on the back of the building directly across from Nestle/the station. It's not actually facing Lynn Street. I opted for a 1/4 chicken (white meat) with Portuguese rice and macho peas. Honestly - it was great. My chicken was juicy and spicy and even better when doused with even more Nando's hot sauce. They shouldn't even put a table there. The other tables (specifically booths) are much more pleasant. Overall the whole place was narrow and much smaller than we expected. When I first heard about Nando's was on instagram through some of my international followers. Before the actual restaurant came here they sold the nando peri peri sauces my favorite was the garlic and the spicy one. When the finally came here I was extremely excited but i never had time to visit it because I was rarely in the ballston area. Now since they have another one in Rosslyn and I visit my mom at her work more than my own. I was bound to eat there for lunch. I was impressed, the restaurant was beautiful and the atmosphere was casual, fast pace and fun. Sadly I only had time to order for to-go. But from what I can assume for a dine-in experience is that you order up front or with the hostess and you're given a stand. They bring out your food to wherever you're seating. In addition they have a lot of extra sauces for you to use. I ordered the 1/4 chicken breast with a medium spice level with 2 sides the fire roasted corn and rice. It was pretty dang good. But since I'm pretty spice-tolerant it was a mild spice level to me. Aside from that the chicken was seasoned to perfection, it wasn't dry at all and the sides were good too! I love chicken in all its glory and in all kinds of preparation like fried, grilled, baked, braised, even poached (but mostly in olive oil). There's also no trash can visiblE which I found odd- even if servers clean up after your tables you should still have a trash can in sight.. never had a case like this before. Delicious, satisfying food in a convenient location for dine-in or take-out. I've ordered food to go during the lunch hour and evening, and both times I've gotten my food within 10 minutes, although during lunch, there's a slightly larger crowd. I usually get the spicy chicken leg with a few sides. I definitely prefer the dark meat and it's super juicy and tender after it's been grilled. Spicy is the perfect amount of heat as it's really flavorful, but the spice isn't overbearing at all. They also have plenty of Peri Peri sauce in all heat levels so you can adjust to your liking. I've tried the garlic bread and corn--both of which were pretty good--and macho peas, which I wasn't a huge fan of. I thought the combination of mint and peas was a bit strange for my palate, but if that's something you would like, then there wasn't anything else wrong with them. The staff there is always friendly, and it's a pretty straightforward of ordering at the counter then waiting for your food on the side, if you're ordering to go. They have little plastic cups to hold the sauce to take out as well. I like to mix a few of the different ones together! Overall, Nando's is a solid place for food. This place just all around disappointing. I have been here twice to pick up for lunch during work and once after work for a sit-down meal with group of 5. I get it, it's crowded and super busy during lunch hours, but why bother if the quality of food decreases drastically? When I opened it, it was a box of sadness of rice and chicken and a few pieces of corn and arugula, no peppers whatsoever. The second time I order to go, it was chicken Caesar salad. I remember getting it at Navy Yard and it was amazing. But this time, the chicken was definitely not their regular grilled chicken. I'm just really annoyed at myself for kept on giving them a chance. Why not just have a lunch menu with cheaper prices if the portion is smaller and quality is lower?
