Whenever I'm at National Harbor, Nando's PERi-PERi is my spot! So when I saw one while out in Springfield, I already knew I had to pull up. Now don't get me wrong--I absolutely love Nando's. This visit just wasn't quite as perfect as what I'm used to. First off, they didn't have the steamed vegetables, which is one of my usual go-tos, so that was a little disappointing. BUT let's get into the good... because there was plenty! The lemon & herb and the mango & lime flavored chicken? Whew--it was hitting! The corn on the cob was a table favorite (I didn't have any myself, but everybody else was raving about it). The garlic bread was on point like always, and the rice? BABY... that rice is still everything. I could eat that by itself! The chicken thigh skewers were definitely a highlight--tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The onions and peppers had the perfect crisp, and that mango & lime flavor really showed out. Now... the letdown. Those honey sweet potatoes? Yeah, no. They were too hard and honestly a little too spicy to even be considered "sweet." That was a miss for me. Overall, I'm still rocking with Nando's and will definitely be back, no question. Several things went wrong that indicate significantly below average customer service: Asian young woman met me almost at the door and asked if this was takeout or dine in. I responded "Dine in." She walked away. I arrived at the counter and proceeded to attempt to place my order. I picked up the menu and the African America young woman with glasses asked me if I wanted to read the menu or place an order. I responded that I had to read the menu in order to place my order. She the said "If you don't know what you want, you're allowed to take your time." I was unaware I needed her permission, but okay. Then, I turned to the Asian young woman who seemed ready to accept an order from me. She rang me up prior to being seated. I declined the tip (poor service so far, sadly) and paid for my meal. She pointed me to a seat. Asian young woman after a delay (restaurant was practically empty) brought my food to the table, along with an empty glass and pointed me to the cutlery. What made the service even more disappointing was that I had told both women that I arrived from a 3 hour drive. I have patronized Nando's since its very first store opened on the East Coast. At this establishment you are seated with a chance to look through the menu and once you know what you want you head up to the cashier to place and pay for your order. We tried a few things that night and everyone enjoyed their dishes like the 1/2 chicken with fries and garlic bread, the PERi PERi Chicken Bowl which was very filling and the Peri Peri wings. Ridiculously mid and overhyped. For a causal meal it is very expensive and if you go with a group it will add up. Food came out fast but it was just okay. The chicken doesn't have much flavor and I guess that's why they keep all of those extra sauces on the side. You take your own utensils, drinks and sauce. But food is brought out to your table. We decided to grab a bite to eat after hanging out at the mall. This is a fast casual restaurant with vibrant and colorful interior. You can either order from your phone via a QR code or place an order at the register. The food portions are on the smaller side and kinda pricey for what you get. Nandos is known for their chicken! This place has become our go-to spot whenever we visit the LEGO Discovery Center next door. It's super convenient, and the kids absolutely love it. The menu is flavorful without being too overwhelming for little ones, and there are plenty of choices for adults too. One thing I really appreciate is how spacious and kid-friendly the dining area is. There is plenty of room for families, strollers, and all the chaos that comes with hungry kids after (or before) a fun activity. The food always comes out hot and tasty. Springfield Mall was struggling in the early 2010's, but in 2015 they remodeled the mall & became a bit of a cool hang out area in 2015 & 2016. A friend & I went to the Springfield location of Nando's one time in 2015. While the chicken quality & sides were good per usual, the portion size was small of the chicken, which was disappointing. I appreciated the fast-casual format, where ordering directly from the table was both efficient and convenient, with food delivered promptly. I ordered the veggie burger, fries, and Portuguese rice. The greens were impressively crisp, though the portion size felt rather small relative to the price point. While the food was enjoyable, it lacked the freshness one might expect, and it was evident that not everything was prepared fully from scratch. The chicken here is fuego! . If you're looking for some good chicken that's an alternative to Peruvian or fried chicken, then this is the place for you. Every bite of the chicken you can taste that fire grilled char in it. You can get anything from chicken to wings, to their version of a cava or chipotle bowl. We love them all, would recommend getting the peri chicken rainbow bowl a Mac n cheese mixed bowl with veggies and chicken. For the sides, the chips (fries) with perinaise sauce is the bomb, as is the coleslaw. Excellent food. However, good food takes time to cook. This is a great option if you are in the Springfield Town Center area and want something to eat without having to spend more at a nearby restaurant or eat less healthy inside the mall. Inside here, the staff was helpful and they have plenty of seating. It did take about 20 minutes to get the food for 3 of us, but it was worth it. The chicken is very fresh and cooked correctly. A great place for a quick lunch if you want something fast casual. It was a tad empty when I entered but I was seated promptly at a table and I went straight to ordering. You can order up front at the counter or you can order through the app. Personally I'm someone that finds it convenient to order through the phone but that could be because I'm introverted... Anyways, the food came out quick. I usually get the wing appetizer which consists of six wings with your choice of spice. I opt for medium since it's a good balance between tangy and spice. It's pretty good but don't expect the wings to be big. They are kinda small. On the other hand, the 1/2 chicken was a delight to see. You get a piece of white/dark meat and two sides of your choice. I got fries and rice, I guess I just like carbs or something. The chicken is really juicy and you can taste the char. The sauce was lightly brushed so I would recommend getting a sauce bottle from where you'd also get your utensils and napkins too. My only complaint was that the Coke Freestyle had limited options on my visit and I am wondering if they are phasing it out for a regular soda dispenser. One server addresses those to dine in and one addresses those who order out. However, my server immediately knew about the Yelp Jingle Bowl promo when asked. I also did get a kid's meal and a side of fries. So, the Nando's chicken on the bone is always tasty and their fries, albeit salty, are tasty, but a but overly fried. Now, the Jingle Bowl. 2 small pieces of thighs (dark, white or pulled chicken options available), some stuffing, corn and mashed potato. The bowl was ok, nothing spectacular. Would I order this again? Most likely not. It's not the flavors I expect from Nando's and honestly, it did not impress me. The hibiscus lemonade tasted like an overly sweet yet tart lemonade. Also, the machine kept dripping the lemonade so they just put a cup underneath and as soon as it was full, capped it and placed it in the fridge (probably for pick up on future orders). Hubby and I ordered their rainbow vegetarian bowl and Nandocas sandwich (hot). Total came out to under $30. What's Hot - Quality. Pretty delicious. It appears their food is freshly made. Their chicken is tender, moist, and flavorful. My rainbow vegetarian bowl was delicious and not overly salty, as well. Nando's chicken is almost always reliable for good quality chicken. - Menu. Very good variety, especially given that they're a chicken restaurant. They do have a fair number of items that are vegetarian and vegan friendly, as well. - Price. Very reasonable, especially given the portions. That hubby and I were able to get our dinners for a total of less than $30 is reasonable. - Layout. There are small tables for 2, booths, and large long tables for larger groups, which is helpful. Our group took up 2 long tables. - Service. A positive aspect is that you can order online. As a result, some of our group ordered at their counter, while some of our group ordered online and put in our table number so that they knew where our orders came from. Because we had a large group and because our orders were split between online and in-person/at the counter, they definitely deserve credit for the fact that a couple of their staff would regularly check in on us to ensure we all got our individual orders. They were also able to accommodate our group when other nearby restaurants at the mall, such as Maggiano's and Yard House said they could not accommodate us and/or said we had to wait for over 1hr for them to seat us. - Parking. Given that this location is at a mall, there is plenty of parking around the mall, which is helpful. What's Not - Service. They're not bad, but not great. Because our orders were broken up between online and in-person, my guess is that their kitchen staff didn't anticipate so many orders to come in at the same time. As such, everyone's order came out at different times and some had to wait much longer than others. To be fair, it probably depends on how many people are in your group. Given that we were over 20 people and took up 2 large tables, it may have been difficult for them to track our individual orders. Point is to be prepared for slower and disjointed service if your group is larger than 4 to 6 people; especially, dependent on the day and time you go. - Layout. They have the layout to handle large numbers, but the space is tight for groups larger than 4 (standard number for a booth). We got the family platter of wings (mango lime), fries, garlic bread, Caesar salad and strawberry lemonade. The lemonade wasn't sweet at all and wasn't very good. The fries were good. Perfectly seasoned. The garlic bread was fantastic. Tasted really fresh and the softness was perfect. I wish the wings were a little hotter. They were closer to room temperature so the sauce wasn't very pleasant. We also tasted more char than chicken. Our order was slightly wrong as we received less wings than the order, but we did receive a thigh and a leg. Since my kid eats dark meat, we didn't correct the order. The downside was as she got closer to the bone, the chicken wasn't thoroughly cooked. Again, we didn't correct the issue, we just chose to leave. Me and my wife went here together with other visiting friends from virginia beach. This is my 1st time eating at Nando's so I had to get oriented with the different sauces. I ordered the mango and lime which was a great choice! I tried the other Peri with herb and lime with herb. The hot sauces were too much for my taste. The fries were thick cut and the corn was really good. The staff were friendly and quick to serve 6 of us in the table. Parking is easy since it is the Springfield mall.
