My coworker and I had lunch here. At last they have an app, which most fast casual chain restaurants have had for years, and it's on the LevelUp network, so you don't even have to download the restaurant-specific app (though I did), just use the LevelUp app. Ask a friend to refer you to the app and get $5 off your first meal (no one referred me, alas). Lots of room inside, including an upstairs terrace with more seating and a back upstairs room with more tables and chairs. There is a beverage station and condiments upstairs as well as downstairs. I spent $17, which is steep for lunch for chicken breast, mashed potatoes, and corn. My chicken had the right sauce I ordered but was cold and the corn was not as juicy & delicious & satisfying as I remember it in the past and too charred for my taste, but the mashed potato was impossibly scrumptious. The chicken is cooked to perfection and the marinade was so good. We were both very happy and satisfied with our choices. We tried all the sauces and my favorite is the Peri Peri garlic sauce. The fries with perinaise is also very good and also gone by the end of our meal. The only thing that was a let down is the cauliflower but once we drenched that with Peri Peri sauce, it became bomb too. Atmosphere is nice however a bit confusing. The decor elevates the restaurant. We were sat by our server and we are not from here so we didn't know that we had to order at the counter or online. We had to ask but it's okay, the food was worth it. Also it was kind of entertaining to watch people keep missing where the door was. You go inside the building and you get into a lobby. The restaurant side is all glass but find the protrusion on the glass and that's where the door is. As for service, we had to ask for our utensils. They were scarce and not as friendly. Thankfully there are now multiple locations in the DMV, but I recently visited the 18th street location and sat upstairs with a small group of friends. Coming into Nando's, you're usually presented with a table number, if dining in, but all customers order at the cashier before eating. There is a great selection of tasty sides, but the main attraction is definitely the very well seasoned Peri-Peri chicken, which comes in a range of spice levels. I really wished my experience here had been better today. It's a cute place with a nice atmosphere, and my food was so close to being just fine, but they really missed the mark with the thigh kabobs. They were obviously grilled earlier in the day and then "reheated" however they were barely even room temperature, some pieces of chicken were much dryer than others, and the onions and red peppers were almost raw. This was really disappointing, I almost sent it back, but I was hungry and didn't want to watch my husband eat. My meal would have been fine if it had been hot off the grill. And half the brussels sprouts were a bit undercooked as well and again not very hot. My husbands pees were mushy. I did not enjoy the taste of those either. Also. We sat at the only two top available which was a booth that we were warned had a loud speaker. It was way too loud. We should have looked elsewhere when we were warned they did not have fries today. While I heard positive remarks about multiple Nando's locations, my experience was rather underwhelming. We ordered Nando's to-go. I got the chicken burger (medium) and a side of fries. Although it was enjoyable, I could not taste any spice on the chicken burger. Consider ordering hot if you enjoy spice. The most disappointing part was the halloumi sticks. Never treated when I entered and after 5 minutes a rude person comes up and says you can sit anywhere and just order online.. so that's what I did and after ordering I sat at my table for 34 minutes to be exact and never even got my drink. Then after going up to the register and asking I finally get my food. No apology or nothing just here you go. And after all this time I still never got my drink! This location has the worst workers and customer service. I pretty much had to serve myself. What a waste of money and time. I will never come here again! this Nandos was AMAZING. I went to today with my boyfriend looking for a quick snack, and the workers could not have been more helpful. We signed up in store for the app to get the free garlic bread (totally a steal, everyone should do this) but our barcode wasn't scanning. I came here on a Wednesday night with a friend. I love the Nando's PERi-PERi chain and have been to multiple locations in the DMV. This location is the nicest location I have visited, the staff were so friendly and polite, the inside of the restaurant is alot nicer than other locations (decor, setup, cleanliness, etc.) and the food was delicious! I ordered my usual, the Chicken Pita which comes with chicken and veggies inside a toasted pita with my choice of sauce and side. I selected Lemon & Herb sauce with a side of Red Skin Mashes Potatoes. My friend and I also ordered a side of Garlic Bread to share. Everything was just as delicious here as other locations! Nando's knows how to prepare chicken, it is juicy and super flavorful. I also love all the different sauces Nando's offers... pay attention to the spice meter and take it as a warning! I love spice, but I usually put anything above Medium on the side as a dipping sauce versus pouring all over my meal because it is hottttt! Parking can be difficult as it is DC, I walked here from a nearby workout studio so I would recommend either walking or Ubering to this location. My dad and I had Nando's for the first time and I'm happy to say it didn't disappoint. I was a little worried at first about the wait time after reading several reviews about the customer service and wait times, but we didn't have any issues with that at all! We came in during the lunch hour 11:30ish/12 on a Friday. This Nando's Peri Peri in Dupont Circle has a beautiful set up--plenty of seating both on the ground level and upper level, spacious, clean, and well-lit. There is also outdoor seating as well. The ordering itself would have been slightly confusing if it weren't for one of the servers greeting us at the entrance and explaining the ordering process to us. He handed us a number (which is your table number), the directed us to the ordering counter where you place your order and pay. Then you seat yourself at the table according to the number on the placard you grabbed at the front. The service was seamless and efficient. Expecting to wait around for at least 15 minutes, we went to the condiments station and poured a couple cups of different sauces, then sat at Table 1, by the window and chatted, laughing at the people walking by, and obviously, people-watched. To our surprise, within 5 minutes or so, our food came out. I ordered the Chicken Bowl and my dad order the half chicken with one side. The chicken bowl came with a lot of rice--personally, a little too much for me, but probably just the right amount for an average person. But overall, I think it was a good balance of everything (arugula, roasted peppers, hummus, rice, and chicken). My dad's half chicken and fries were good--honestly, nothing spectacular, but good. The service was disappointing at the 18th street location tonight. They were unprepared to serve food to a group of people for which there was pre-planned catering in a private room. (Food was ready, service was understaffed.) 1. They had one person serving multiple items for a group of 39 - needed two people. When our awesome tour guide jumped in to pick of the slack, the line slowed even further when the manager came to question/criticize the sole staff member serving about why a non-staff member was serving food. The manager was then rude to our tour guide. 2. I was asked whether I wanted chicken. I said I did. The server the plopped my chicken down directly on my salad 3. The salad dressing dispenser (a plastic back of the house dispenser with an odd lid that apparently needed to be removed) was shooting out dressing everwhere ... and all over me, new shoes and clothes. I asked where I can clean up and the manager stated in what I perceived to be a sarcastic tone "do you want us to hold your plate for you?" (I was holding the plate.) The manager made no offer of where and with what supplies to clean up. I found a dirty bathroom and tried to clean up with the one-ply toilet paper available. There was no apology from staff at the time this occurred. I specifically followed up with the manager about 25 minutes later and received an apology with the context of 'we are understaffed', but not for her poor response. read more

So I have tried the original Nando's in South Africa and this is just as good, the restaurant's decor is super cool and amazing music, we ordered the quarter chicken and some wings, the chicken was perfectly cooked and the seasoning flavors were out of this world, and i loved the selection of unlimited sauces you can get on the side. The sides were really good too. For a drink i got the pineapple lemonade and that was delicious. The staff were friendly and very helpful, also they kept the restaurant clean and well stocked. We went to this location having earlier enjoyed another one in DC. It seems that the food quality and the service varies by location. I customised my rainbow bowl for a chicken thigh but got a very dry chicken breast with no explanation. The cauliflower was stone cold but the hummus was (correctly) room temperature. The bed of rice was warm but the chicken was not hot. The mostly super young kids working there had little interest in doing anything. One helped me figure out my dairy restriction but the others were not even doing a bare minimum. Again, it could be the location or just how the vibe is at Nando's in DC. A managerial looking person did come out towards the end of our meal and asked us and the others around if things were OK. We simply said yes because it's a little harsh to openly point out the lapses like that. On a different note, not related to this location, I wish Nando's took a little more effort to make the ingredients clear so that people with restrictions can decide what they can enjoy without much bothering the serving staff or the kitchen. read more

I love Nando's. I know DC has a lot of nice restaurants and even more attractions but imo Nando's is a real national treasure! They always had good chicken and good sides but recently (I think because I have been to Nando's in a couple years) introduced sandwiches, wraps and a rotating selection of sides. Fam. Everything. Is. Good. I ordered a side of Macho peas. Its basically mashed up peas, mixed with whole peas, and a sprinkle of God knows what cuz its delicious. It the kind of pea kids would eat lol. I also ordered a side of cole slaw which was idk regular cole slaw and the chicken thighs with their extra hot sauce. They have a ton of sauces and they are all unique. I ended up pouring the wild herb sauce on my order and the spicy with the herb sauce was LIT. They have a numbered table system so if you eat in you order at register and then someone brings your food and comes by one more time to male sure youre good. There was a long a** line when I arrived around 1pm on a Monday but I got my food in about 20 mins. You can tell they are experienced in dealing with large lunch crowds. Me, I ordered the basic chicken breast with fries and roasted Brussels sprouts. Again....they were out of slaw which was my first choice. How can you be out of slaw? It's a chicken restaurant! My chicken was pretty good. Hot, too. The mango based sauce applied after grilling was quite tasty. Fries.....pretty good. Spouts were 'roasted' maybe 4-5 hours earlier as they were lukewarm and soggy. Disappointing for sure, but the chicken was hot and flavorful. Now, the service. Awful. Took nearly 40 mins to get my chicken breast to the table. They specialize in chicken, FYI. 40 mins, and twice asked them to check on it. Wife's salad came out in less than 15 mins. Again, she liked it. Chicken was hot and flavorful on it. But the service and responses to my questions were pitiful. Too, a table of about 7 people came in 15 mins after we did, and got their food before I did. So....food, we'll give them a 3. Service......more like a 2. No slaw, no salad dressing. So a 2 overall. I had the: *1/4 Chicken - Leg & Thigh: this was plenty of food for one person. It's so well-seasoned. I wish they had this instead of El Pollo Loco back home! In terms of heat, medium is fine; I didn't think it was that spicy. *PERi-PERi Wings - no complaints here! they were nicely cooked, seasoned wings! *Butternut Squash and Grilled Corn Side (With red onion, dried cranberries, fresh cilantro and chilli) - I wanted the grilled corn on the cob but they didn't have it available because corn on the cob is seasonal. was NOT a fan of this side. Just something about the flavors just didn't really jive for me. *Braised Brussels Sprouts (Brussels sprouts braised in butter with shallots and a hint of chilli.) - this was fine! I was hoping it'd be flash fried but it's probably better for me that way. *Cucumber and Poppy Seed Salad (Sliced cucumbers tossed with a tangy poppy seed dressing and pickled red onions.) - really, really enjoyed this side! Excellent healthy fast food. I ate at Nandos a few times in Washington DC. My favorite meal items were: The chicken with lemon garlic sauce. The chicken with medium sauce. They have a wide variety of sauces but I thought these were the two best. Side dishes : Turmeric rice - a yummy rice dish mildly spiced and the flavors worked well with the bbq chicken. How do you run out of Chicken wings & thighs and it only 12 noon?! make it, make sense?!

Lunch in Dupont Circle can be a hassle unless the restaurant is a well-oiled machine tat knows they need you to sit down, eat, drink, well, you know the gist. I stepped in to Nando's because of their newish developed app and rewards system which threw a rather generous gift my way of a 1/4 chicken and 2 sides for free, so long as I used their app. The loyalty program is partnered with Level Up and its simple, for every $100 you get $10 back eventually leading in to an elite status program based on their sauces. Back to the food, I had been to different locations and the food is consistently good across the board. The chicken comes out juicy, I go with the hot as I had not been bold enough for the very hot... yet. Every now and then I feel like the chicken is a bit too saucy, but that is why you have fingers. As far as sides, I always get the peas and they are not your ordinary peas, they are the mushy peas any good Brit will tell you about, but they are so packed with minty flavor. The staff at this location was a mixed bag, the host at the front was super helpful as was the busboy, but everybody else had a very focused appearance which is fine given the time, but you can definitely be focused and approachable at the same time. read more

I ordered the 1/4 chicken break and wing with their lemon and herb sauce and added fries with that order. The chicken was melt-in-your-mouth goodness. The meat came pretty easily off the bone and was so well-seasoned. I love that they also let you have additional sauces to try near the utensils and drink machines. The service was also fabulous as there were a lot of people for an event and they did an amazing job of getting people's orders and being fast and efficient but not feeling like I was being rushed as a customer at all. I honestly didn't see what all the hype was about but my opinion on Nando's might have been influenced by my first interaction at the restaurant when I was ready to order... I placed my order for my chicken plate with one side and tried to order a glass of sangria, but the guy taking my order saw my vertical license and said that they don't accept them. I understand that for some businesses, this rule is intended to discourage those who obtain a new, horizontal driver's license after turning 21 from passing on their still-valid vertical licenses to someone who is underage and might use it to purchase alcohol or get into bar... but it is in fact, MY license and it is a valid ID. The only reason it isn't expired yet and why it is still vertical is because I got my license later than the age of 16. Rather than offering me the closest next option to a seasonal sangria, I had to ask and he simply pointed to the soda machine behind me. We are originally from NYC and on prior visits we would visit this location and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's been about 3 years since we returned to DC, and the first place we stopped at was this location. I felt dread when we first opened the door to enter. It was dirty, and the carpet just inside was filthy as well. There was no one to greet or seat us, and when we attempted to find a seat ourselves, the seating was either greasy with food on it, or literally torn and worn out. The booths were no better, there was one booth still piled high with dirty dishes and glassware from previous diners, and the one we had no choice but to sit on, turned out to be greasy as well and the table sticky with dried up food and drink. We had to go back to the front entrance where we saw a rag, and wipes. We literally had to wipe the table down ourselves and used a spray disinfectant we found as well. We should've just left at that point but we really wanted to give it a chance based on our prior visits. We were told by the person at the register to look at the menu and he would be right with us. We took a seat and waited and waited until we finally decided to go back to the register and just order there. Each time we tried to order something, they either did not have it, or said it would be a half an hour to be ready. This was on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't even busy. The grill was off, and there were soggy looking fries sitting there. We finally completed our order and waited. The food came out and it wasn't even hot. It was warm at best. The only thing that was sort of hot was the chicken. Everything else was warm. The bathrooms were dirty and one had the smell of marijuana as though someone went in to smoke in there. The floors throughout the restaurant were wet and filthy as well. It looks severely understaffed and the workers there looked as though they wanted to do the bare minimum. As a visitor to DC, I knew I had to try Nando's! I enjoyed it so much the first time, I had it two days in a row! The first night I split an order of peri-peri wings, Portugese rice, and mashed potatoes with my friend. YUM! Their mashed potatoes are sooo creamy and fluffy! The Portugese rice is also delicious and complements the chicken well. These chicken wings though - they may look small but they are MIGHTY in flavor and juiciness! The second day my friends and I went for lunch around 2 PM and it was not busy at all. The staff were attentive and very nice. I ordered chicken thighs with two sides - they didn't have corn but they did have butternut squash and corn! I also ordered rice again since I could not resist! Man, these thighs were ON POINT! Super juicy, flavorful, and a HUGE amount of chicken for one dish! You know that time during a meal when everyone at the table is silent.... because they're scarfing down delicious food? Yeah, that happened at Nando's - and we LOVED IT! I can't wait for another trip to the east coast so I can try more delicious dishes from Nando's! read more
