And they refused to do the cleaning, but they had already conducted an exam, so I am not able to get another exam/cleaning with another dentist for 6 months. I was told my exam was in good shape, but without a proper cleaning, how amI to ensure I maintain that? I plan on filing a complaint with the DMHCC for this type of practice. I want to begin by saying Dr Mashhood skills are about as good as it gets and this is why I have been seeing only her for the past couple of years. She recently did a root canal, mended my broken tooth and placed two crowns. Her work is flawless as she pays close attention to detail and really cares about the quality of care she is providing. She also caters to people like me who are sensitive to pain and afraid of needles as she is an expert at making sure the correct locations are numbed with as little as one or two shots. Finding a good dentist in this city,is more challenging than finding a soul mate-no matter how you go about it, there always seems to be some 'glitch'-whether it's a dentist who wants to re do your entire mouth, insisting you need repair for a life of healthy teeth, or Dentists who tell you your insurance doesnt cover the most basic proceedure and then quotes you a price that seems sky high. In the case of Dr. Mashood, who started out on such a positive note, and who went back to school at age 40 to become a dentist (an Engineer, she then graduated from USC which is first rate as a dental school). My first visit in Dec. 08 made me think she was honest and trustworthy. THe work she said had to be done had been recommended by my previous dentist (whose wife was diagnosd with breast cancer and I didnt want to be included in all that 'dhrama' which went on every time i went in) and so I agreed to a series of procedures, which I thought Dr.Mashood performed on a very high level. BUT THEN-I am a 'plaque collector' and as instructed (ordered) I improved my dental hygiene and went in at 4 month intervals-each visit became more unpleasant, as Dr. Mashood began to "YELL" at me, had the temerity to ask me if I flossed (Couldnt she tell-I ought to own stock in Johnson and Johnson) and seemed put off when I told her I didnt employ a maid to clean my house. Or maybe it was the antler cap I wore for my last visit in December. I should have realized, perhaps, that when the barista at Starbucks around the corner couldnt handle my order, that things were on a downhill slide. (And oh, i hve neglected to mention that for one visit, Dr. Mashood kept me waiting for more than 90 minutes, claiming she had to take care of a patient with a 'dental emergeny.'). By the time I'd fhad my cleaning in December 09 and Dr. Mashood, after taking Xrays could not determine if my "crown which must be 40 years old' needed to be replaced-and then her assitant informed me that my insurance did not cover this and quoted the 'wholesale price' that was somewhere in the neighborhood of $700. Maybe I am naieve,but that seemed to me to be excessive and I got the impression that Dr. Mashood did not like me and had no interest in dealing with my miniscule dental problems. I have good teeth-and I do my best to brush FREQUENTLY, but the attitude and tenor of Dr. Mashood and her assitant Pamela left me feeling as If Ineeded tosee a psychiatrist, as obviously my dental woes were a direct reflection of my mental inadequacies. s I read more

Worst experience ever at a dentist! The dentist and her staff use scare tactics and shameless upselling techniques to get you to part with thousands of dollars for your horrible teeh (according to them.) I went in for a routine cleaning and exam and was told you have bad peridontal diesease and need a deep cleaning with full root planing and scaling which will cost you $400 out of pocket. Okay, no dentist has ever told me this before and they have always just cleaned my teeth and done the x-rays. They then take detailed photos of your mouth for about 20 mins that I did not ask for and leave them up on this projection screen magnified about a million times that make the inside of your tooth area that has yellowish parts look like something our of a horror movie. They go on and on about how horrible your teeth are even if your teeth look fine and no other dentist has ever told you this. They leave the photos up on the screen until you tell them to take them down. Dentist and staff proceed to scare you that if you don't come see them every 4 months for a deep cleaning, your horrible teeth are in danger!!! Dental assistant tried to upsell me a $675 plastic thing for teeth grinding which I don't have a problem with and a $75 mouthwash, only available in their office. On my way out, dental assistant tried to force me/scare me into booking an immediate appointment for a $1200 crown which I desperately need because..... I have a cavity... and I have to do it right away! I ran out of that house of horrors and they never even issued me a receipt for my services. So unprofessional. STAY AWAY! This place is a dental disaster and seems like the staff is working on commission with all the upselling and aggressive fear tactics. Yikes! read more

Ellie at the front desk was so accommodating and warm towards me and the process of getting set up. I had a couple of root canals needed to get done. The insurance was set up perfectly. I really liked my dentist in Atlanta and I know how hard it is to find a good dentist because you become comfortable with your dentist especially if you have had the same one for a few years. I am actually one of those patients that goes to the dentist for the twice a year cleaning even though I floss and brush three times a day. After every meal I do this because I just don't like food between my teeth and have that feeling that my mouth is dirty. I have been in sales for over ten years and it is a fact that you have to keep your mouth clean and that is why I carry the tools needed to keep your mouth clean and your breath smelling good. For example, when I worked at Fry's Electronics you are recommended to carry gum or one of those Listerine strips during your shift. Dr. Naomeh Mashhood is the most friendly person that I have ever met. I felt very comfortable from the moment that I sat in the chair for my examination. Before I went to the back I spoke to another patient that was in the waiting room and he said nothing but positive things about her. I asked myself how can someone be so "NICE" and then I understood after my examination was finished. Dr. Naomeh Mashhood is very nice and she explains everything to you in a friendly, cordial manner and very professional. I had to have all my wisdom teeth pulled which I have been postponing for several months. I was nervous at first due to the fact that this is the only major surgery that I have ever had. When Serene quoted me the fees for the procedure I was surprised because I thought that Beverly Hills is an expensive place. The way she gave me the injection I barely felt anything. When she started to extract my wisdom teeth, again, I didn't feel a thing and I was surprised of how gentle she was during the entire procedure. I was also surprised of how smooth and fast the procedure went. Afterwards, the doctor and Lulu gave me very clear and precise instructions of what do to after the extraction to ensure that I heal in a quick and timely manner. aww man. wow. please don't bother, I BEG you! I went in for a cleaning. A general cleaning that cost $0 dollars with my insurance. I opted for the special numbing liquid that was an extra $75. When my bill was $165 at the end of my cleaning, I just paid it, dazed. When I realized a few days later that I had been over charged $90, I called back. The super unhelpfull receptionist told me that the Dr. Mashood had decided that I needed a deeper cleaning and so that is what she gave me. I told her that was not what I asked for, nor was I informed that is what I needed - she also failed to tell me it would be $90 bucks instead of $0. They took advantage of my ignorance of the situation. I take some blame, with an HMO you really need to know what your costs are or you will be screwed over. Well, then I asked for my xrays, saying that I would like to go somewhere else. The receptionist said it would cost me $35. I told her that since I was so overcharged, couldn't she overlook the xray fee? She said she would have to talk to her accountant, and that she would call me as soon as she heard from him. (She estimated next week.)It has been almost two months of me calling constantly, no one answering, no one returning my messages, and then today, I call and the receptionist immediately says she will have to call me back but did talk to the accountant. Horrible, horrible experience. The weirdness started in the waiting room, when I was required to sign a form saying "I understand that I have periodontal disease, which is very serious and requires treatment." I was required to sign the same form on behalf of my 2-year-old daughter. Dr. Mashhood's belief that 100% of her patients have periodontal disease was my first red flag, and things only went downhill from there. The hygienist took the x-rays--which didn't fit in my mouth, hurt a lot, and took a long time--and when Dr. Mashhood came in, the first thing she said was, "Well, I don't even need to look in your mouth to see that your periodontal disease is very bad." She immediately told me she was going to do a deep cleaning ($400 out of pocket) and, after lecturing at me for a few minutes and not allowing me to ask any questions, she left. The hygienist then forced me to watch two promotional videos for deep cleanings. When I said I planned to get a second opinion, the hygienist told me that I had to get it from a dentist of THEIR choice. Then she said, "I'll write you a referral to a periodontist, who'll give you the second opinion and then do the deep cleaning." When I asked if I could just have a regular cleaning, she refused. When my husband went for his appointment, he had the same experience: horrible periodontal disease, deep cleaning, gimme 400 bucks. It seems like she's not entirely in it for the money, or she wouldn't have been willing to refer me to a periodontist, but she was an awful dentist nonetheless--very rude and uncaring. I felt like I was being steamrolled. When I did find another dentist and got the second opinion, surprise surprise: I didn't need a deep cleaning. I was due for a simple cleaning and overall check up. The office was fairly busy that day but Dr. Mashhood was quick to greet me and we conversed past the horizons of average small talk. I was truly amazed by her charismatic ability to break down conversational barriers. Truly a remarkable person to talk to. The cleaning went as seamless as possible.
