I'm so disappointed! Took my vacuum in to get a maintenance job, it needed a good cleaning because it was showing dust all over the housing when it has a triple heap filter. Well after using it I noticed it still wasn't working like it should. So I took it apart and the crap I found within the housing was unbelievable. Considering it had just been serviced the week before. I cleaned every piece that came off and wiped down everything I could within the vacuum. I would give 6 stars if I could... I normally don't write reviews, but Russell Moore (I am assuming the owner) made such an impression on me that I had to write one. I ordered online a 6 pack of Ultraphase 1 detergent and was upset that a 3 pack of UP1 and 3 pack of UP2 arrived instead. When I contacted the company Russell admitted to his mistake and completely refunded me and told me to keep the rest of the order! I picked up a vacuum at a yard sale for 20 bucks. Not really sure it was functioning properly I stopped in Napa sew and vac with the vacuum thinking I might want to trade it in. Although reasonably priced most were more than I wanted to spend. The owner I think was so nice I told him my concerns and for free he checked it out and told me it was a good vacuum and that I probably didn't need to get a new one right now. I really appreciate his honesty and the fact that he did not try to sell me something I didn't really need. I placed an online order for a pair of scissors. As an environmentalist I am fed up with the amount of single use plastic and on my order form I wrote the following: Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES is this order to be shipped in any form of toxic single-use plastic! This includes - do not use a plastic or padded envelope neither of which can be composted This includes - do not use plastic bubble wrap or plastic peanuts This includes - do not swaddle the scissors in an excessive amount of plastic tape - one inch will suffice A simple cardboard shipping box and some paper is required Thanks! Napa Sew and Vac completely disregarded my note and shipped in a cheap plastic envelope AND had the nerve to charge me $6.50! They put all of 3 stamps on the envelope ! WTF? RIP OFF. What can I say except WOW?! The customer service is unbelievable. I have been looking for a particular iron for months. I bought it from three places only to be told it was out of stock later. This was for a gift for my mother who is making masks for first responders. I wanted to do something special for her to show how amazing she is. Everywhere I looked,however, I would either not get an answer about the inventory, or it was out of stock even though it wasn't listed that way. I've had a sewing machine serviced by Napa Sew & Vac. It works like a dream. I took my vacuum cleaner in for a fix. Apparently, suck up socks and cat toys isn't recommended! The blockage was in the bend of the hose that attached to the dust cup. There wasn't any easy fix and the team there offered to open it up and do a service on it for $129. However, they had a similar model for $159, so we purchased that. Actually, the upgrade was my idea, there was no pressure to buy. And, yes, we knew it was a long shot bringing it in, so we anticipated buying a new one. We had tried to remove the blockage ourselves, to no avail. Napa Sew & Vac definitely has my business and is worth driving over from Sonoma. read more

I took a Miele canister vac in to get a faulty power switch repaired. The man at the counter said it would be covered under warranty. A couple days later, I got a call that the vacuum had been repaired, but at the cost of $120. Unsurprisingly, the warranty didn't apply because my HEPA filter was apparently way overdue to be changed. My bad; that, of course, was no fault of Napa Sew & Vac. What I did take objection to, however, was the fact that in addition to replacing the faulty switch, they went ahead, purchased the filter, and replaced it for me without any kind of communication about it beforehand. I consider it common professional courtesy (which was lacking here) to communicate those kinds of changes and manage customer expectations. So I ended up paying for a marked up filter (I could have purchased the exact same one myself for cheaper), and I probably ended up paying some amount for the "labor" involved in changing the filter out (about 30 seconds of work that any customer can easily perform themselves). But hey - the vacuum works again. 3 stars... barely? Then, right before leaving with my vacuum, the man at the counter made a remark about how aftermarket bags void my warranty. Funny, because I brought my vacuum in without a bag. Then the man proceeded to dig through the trash, pull out, and show me this aftermarket bag that I had supposedly inserted into the vacuum. Impossible. I had removed my previous (official Miele) bag before bringing the vacuum in and didn't replace it because I had just run out of them and had to order more. In fact, the day I dropped the vacuum off, I asked them specifically whether it was okay that there was no bag. They told me it was fine. Of course, they refused to acknowledge that a technician may have put it in while testing. In any case, the whole thing reeked of outright deception. But hey - the vacuum works again. It would have been a 1-star experience otherwise. UPDATE: The owner Russell reached out to me to apologize for the miscommunication. Store policy is that customers be given estimates and approve repairs before they are completed. He is also making an effort to determine how the aftermarket bag found its way into my vacuum and will review operating procedure and policy with employees again. Review upgraded from 2 to 3 stars. read more

With all the big-box stores and online purchasing, it's hard to find the knowledge and expertise you want when choosing between multiple products. The sewing machine I bought at Napa Sew and Vac many years ago was just the right model for the limited sewing that I do. It is easy to use and maintain, without a lot of complicated features I would never use, and they steered me away from these. The vacuum cleaner I bought recently is light, powerful and works on both hardwood floors and carpets wonderfully. Again, I was shown the model that met my limited needs only, and I am very satisfied with it. Both items required some orientation, and the staff was always there to help. I was surprised to find that many of the places that I contacted either didn't have what I needed or didn't like that I was price shopping. Just stopped in with a vacuum that had an intermittent issue. The technician found the problem immediately. The fix was a simple super glue of one piece so that the electrical connection was secure. They are always friendly and helpful, and never give you the hard sell. I've had them do routine maintenance on my vacuum and sewing machine. I've had them repair my vacuum, and I've bought two Janomes from them. My mom bought a Miele vacuum that is terrific. They carry other Miele appliances as well. They carry lots of vacuum, sewing and general cleaning accessories. Prices are good and they do have sales and coupons, and offer deals for repeat business, or throw in small goodies when you buy. The website is iffy; sometimes it's up, sometimes not. This is a place I go whenever I need my machines serviced or fixed. I highly recommend it! The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is because it is one of those places that always has something I want to buy, even when I don't WANT to buy anything! I'm only writing on the sewing side, since I recently purchased a sewing machine from Napa Sew & Vac. They were the only dealer who carried the machine I was interested in. I had all the time I wanted to sew on the machine without being pestered to purchase, as in some other stores I won't name. I did purchase the machine and so did a friend, and when I asked for a small discount because of the double sale, Elliot the manager gave us a discount. My suggestion would be to spend more time showing buyers the bells and whistles of the machine of interest. That always helps the prospective buyer make a decision. read more
