First, I'll state up front that the dealership made things right in the end, but getting there was painful. Some of the issues were unforgivable. The process took over 4 hours although we told them we were coming, specified the used CR-V we wanted and didn't dicker over the price. Everyone moved at a glacial pace. After dark, when we finally got into our CR-V and drove away, about halfway home we saw a crack, top to bottom, on the passenger side windshield. We had test-driven the car in daylight and it wasn't cracked then. At least one of their employees, maybe more, knowingly let us drive away in a damaged and potentially unsafe vehicle. They made sure they were not inconvenienced in getting the windshield fixed, but we certainly were -- it took over a week, the communication was slow and frustrating, and we had to drive from Chicago to Lansing instead of their allowing us to fix it here. And, they didn't mention one car fob was missing until the sale was closed, this after we had told the salesman we specifically wanted the trim level with dual seat memory. We like our SUV, but we made sure to take off the Napleton license plate frames. Never again. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with Napleton Honda in Lansing during negotiations for a 2025 Honda CR-V. Two days prior, I visited the dealership and received a printed offer showing an out-the-door price around $32,000 along with a $16,995 trade-in value for my vehicle. Before returning to the dealership, my father called to confirm the car was still available, and separately my salesperson called me directly and stated they would still honor the deal if I came in. After driving about 45 minutes back to the dealership, I was then told the vehicle was "tied up in a sale" and that if I still wanted the vehicle, the price would suddenly increase by $3,500 because they planned to sell it to CarMax instead. I understand vehicles can sell quickly, but the communication and handling of the situation felt misleading and disrespectful of my time. If the terms had changed or the vehicle was no longer realistically available, that should have been communicated before asking me to come back to the dealership. I'm leaving this review so other customers are aware of my experience and can make informed decisions when negotiating here. read more

My 72-year-old mother recently purchased a 2026 Honda Accord Touring from Napleton Honda in Lansing. Despite having A1 credit (760+ score) and being a returning Honda owner, she was subjected to unacceptable, high-pressure sales tactics. During financing, the finance manager (Eli) badgered her into a $5,000 extended warranty--a product she explicitly refused four times--by rushing her and taking advantage of her fatigue late in the evening. Furthermore, despite her stellar credit and brand loyalty, she was passed over for Honda's promotional financing rates and loyalty perks, and instead placed in an 84-month Capital One loan. When I accompanied her back to the dealership less than 24 hours later to correct these issues. Since Eli was off that day another finance representative, Fazi, assisted to promote how the extended warranty on a brand new car was a good investment(he only stopped after I said she doesn't want it, claimed a 760+ credit score was only "Tier 2," and dismissed our request to adjust the contract because the deal was closed aka "booked" less than 24 hours after purchase. Taking advantage of senior citizens through rush tactics and forced add-ons is completely predatory. I strongly urge any senior citizen to BEWARE and consider your options before patronizing this dealership. read more

What a circus. I spent 2.5 hours at Honda for an oil change and routine maintenance, ridiculous. I drive off, and the tire pressure light comes on. Had to come back the next day and waste another hour. I paid over $100 for slow, inefficient service. And the real kicker? A tech called my name in the lounge like I was done. Consumers beware! This business is just ghetto. This business doesn't deliver on "we owes" unless you stalk them. "We owes" are promises made in writing that can't be immediately satisfied at the time that you purchase your car. For example, I never received the 4th hubcap even though I called them many times and spoke with someone each time. That resulted in the documented promise plus quite a few verbals but they never delivered. Show up for an oil change and they find a "bubble" in my tire that I absolutely couldn't have driven there on. So I bit the bullet of an additional $180 expense but will report my experience to the regulators once a month until I receive confirmation of an investigation on their business practices. DO NOT GO! One of the craziest experiences I've ever had trying to purchase a car. I came in and the salesperson (who was polite by the way) showed me some cars and we tried some cars out and after liking one, we sat down and we discussed numbers. The salesperson assumed I was going to finance. We discussed numbers for a 2021 Nissan that was priced at 17k and with Taxes was going to be 20k. After negotiation with him along with the finance person named Eli, we agreed to pay $18,970.03 and it would come with a full tank of gas and 2 key fobs. After I shook hands with Eli on the deal, I then said "I would like to pay cash." And THAT'S when everything changed. They began to get upset and claimed that they would lose money on the sale because they assumed I would finance. They tried to tell me that I should get my credit ran, take the loan out and then just pay it all off and they promised not to tell the bank that they know that. I told them that's shady business and I won't go that route. They then tell me that had they known I was going to pay cash, that they would have added more warranties and other options which then they tried to sell me on and I declined. The sales person leaves along with Eli. The salesperson then comes back and says they can't sell me the car because I wouldn't finance with them. For a dealership that prides themselves on having such resourceful banks to get auto financing from, it seems quite shady that they REFUSE to sell a car for a price they've given because we wouldn't use them to finance, ESPECIALLY when they don't claim "in house Financing". During the sales process, I asked if the gap coverage was an extra cost and they said no it's included. Then they told me the tracker was also included. This information was a lie! I reviewed my paperwork immediately after the signing because I had a bad feeling. While I was waiting for my car to "be driven to the front ", I found in the business agreement that I had agreed to pay $1200 for the gap coverage and then the tracking device which was required cost me $1000. I immediately confronted the sales person who said," what did you expect them to be free? "I said I asked you during the signing process and you said yes it's included in the cost. This is illegal! It is not required to purchase gap insurance, and it's not included in the cost and you don't need a tracking device to purchase their car. I intend to take this to the state level! Got the call saying that priced had dropped to $ on vehicle. Confirmed price several times on phone and made appt. Got there, Offer 1- sales price was higher of course so let's negotiate. Offer 2- we got your price down but charging you extra 1.5k+ for shipping freight cost (who does this) so price goes back up. Offer 3 - yes, removed shipping freight cost and finally happy with deal. They honored price on original call. Now this gets interesting: BEWARE. Next comes the financing. Now, I had gone in knowing that my FICO score was exceptional, had shopped for car rates and had a good down. At the same time Honda nationwide was offering 0% for qualified buyers of which I was one. Not only does Financing comes back with a much higher rate than any of the other rates I had shopped for but if I didn't take their terms, then sales contract was cancelled or they could lower the terms if I agreed to purchase extra warranty. This place has been the worst out of everywhere I've been in the last two weeks. My car was totaled and I'm looking for a specific CR-V at a specific price. First, you find a car they have on Autotrader or a similar website; next, you get a text/call. You ask about X, Y, Z. I live in Oak Park, so I wasn't trying to drive out all the way to Indiana (basically) if they couldn't meet my criteria. One of the main things was that I was promised they would get down the price on the car -- to somewhere in the low $20,000 area, from $22,500 listed on their website. I was on the phone with three different pushy -- speaking over me -- salespeople who promised they could get their prices lower, the car was in immaculate shape, and my favorite lie, "My coworker said he was going to buy this car!" -- if I only just *made the time to go there*. Frustrated, and wanting to end the car buying process, I made the time. I have my downpayment ready and was ready to move on the sale for the right car, brought my husband with me. I get there and the first thing they say is, "hold up, those are the INTERNET salespeople and their whole job is to just get people here. I can't back up what they said to you." Fine, show me the car I'm here for. Immaculate condition? A joke. It's a 3-year-old car that smells like a smoker's lounge with scuffs and dents all over, water in the taillights, paint on the wheels, greasy interior, and missing pieces on the dash. ME: Wouldn't you guys have washed the car before someone looked at it? Them: OH no, we don't do it until someone buys the car. wtf. And then finally, "Oh, no, we can't come down anywhere close from $22,500. Did you see the price on our website? It was at $26,500!" Right then, I walked out. Here is my experience: I canceled the gap & extended warranty the day after I purchased my 2023 crv on Feb 1. My insurance agent informed me that gap was already included in my auto insurance and the extended warranty, don't need will trade in a year, plus car comes with 3yr/36k warranty. So I canceled both and was told it should take 2 weeks at the most and I would get a confirmation call within that time period from the finance rep. Well, no one has reached back to me All of my 30 or more calls, none returned. So I will hire an attorney if this matter isn't resolved by Feb. 18, 2023. This Honda dealerdhip has an excellent service department. The only eyesore is their waiting room and bathrooms. It is not clean and that is a problem esp. since all are cautious of covid. The waiting room floor is dirty with garbage on the floor; the seating is worn out and dirty. Magazines date back to 2019. This is not the first tome seeing this mess! The bathroom stalls are dirty and so are the bathroom counters. The coffee/tea guest section needs regular wiping down. The entire waiting area needs improvement! I don't know if all other Honda dealerships are doing this but I made an appointment to see one of their newest Civics. I'm from Chicago so it was about a 30-40 minute drive. I was told the price was $24,315 (MSRP). Upon going to view it in person, I see that they added $3,200 worth of dealer installed options. I was told by the sales associate that people will pay for these options if they really want the car so they can't remove them. In addition, on top of the options installed, they applied a $5,000 "market adjustment". All in all, $32.5K for a Civic... I glanced at their other cars for sale and all of them had these options installed and the market adjustment. I noticed in the fine print that it says: "OPTIONAL-NOT REQUIRED FOR PURCHASE: The purchase of the above Dealer Installed Options is not required to purchase this vehicle or to obtain purchase or lease financing." (View the photo for reference). I followed up with the sales counselor and asked if they could be removed as it states on the sticker that these options are not required at all. He said no. That the "dealership addendums added to their vehicles are mandatory at the time of purchase" and the best he could do is reduce the market adjustment from $5,000 to $2,000. I continued shopping for better deals and found another Honda dealership that doesn't apply any accessories or options on top of their MSRP. So unless you want to pay extravagant amounts for non-removable/unnecessary dealer options and "market adjustments", I strongly suggest looking elsewhere. read more

I was in there last week looking to buy a specific honda car. I was using the "trucar" website which is a site that connects dealers and customers and what happens when using this service is that dealers will send you specific offers for vehicles you're interested in. My family has used this service as well and we actually used it to get a 2013, and 2014 cars years ago. We have never had ANY issues up until meeting this dealership. I walked in and said I wanted to buy the car they offered me for the price they offered me. Even though that would be the end of that usually, they started with all these hidden and ridiculous "fees", but any fees are supposed to be placed in the offer they send me anyway. They also tried to charge me a cash fee for paying in full up front??? Even during negotiations when the manager came up, he just looked at us. Didn't introduce himself or say hi, just waited for us to talk first. That was just weird because I've never seen a human being act like that. After this terrible experience I immediately went to the next closest Honda dealership and closed a deal and drove out with my new car! As a reminder, this whole negative experience was caused by the "sliminess" of the dealers here trying to add hidden numbers and get you to pay more for absolutely no reason. I inquired about the vehicle and received daily emails from 3 different people regarding the car & making an appointment to come see it. My son happened to be working in the area and stopped by just to see it before we drove 45 minutes to the dealership. He was told that specific car was sold but oh we do have another one the same year with lower miles and only $3k more Less than an hour later I got yet another email asking when we were coming out to see the car. I asked point blank do you still have the car? The response was "YES" I responded with that's funny because my son was there today and was told it had been sold. Guess what? I purchased a 2012 Honda CR-V there last month. To start with, I was charged $875 as an "inspection fee" for THEIR vehicle that was non-negotiable. I had my own mechanic inspect the vehicle (1 man, 20min, $50). The vehicle apparently had unreported severe damage as the engine, radiator, condenser, and battery all had been replaced. The dealership was apparently unaware of any of this (some inspection, didn't even check the vin on the engine!). When asked about getting the title at the end of the transaction, I was told "it will be mailed to you". It wasn't. They require a vehicle inspection form from Indiana filled out before they will "process" the title. For what?! I paid $875 for YOUR crappy inspection, and now I have to jump through this hoop too?! Now I have to wait ANOTHER WEEK for "processing" the title and have it mailed to me. In the mean time, my wife will be driving on expired temp. plates, as they cannot issue another one. Try this, what if that engine was stolen? They even told me that THEY would change over my title to Indiana and have them send me my plates!!!!! This is incompetence. I should have said before I gave him the check, "no title, no sale", and walked out if there was no title produced. DO NOT trust these people! read more

Read through some of these reviews, unfortunately not before I went to this dealership. Otherwise, I would have saved myself some trouble. Like many other contributors of these reviews, I called before going. Upon getting to this dealership, I was greeted by a really nice salesperson who seemed to know what he was doing. Worked to try to answer my questions etc. Everything was going fine. I beforehand secured my own financing with my credit union, to have the easiest experience. The price the sales person showed me was fine, moving on... Unfortunately, by the time, we were done the credit union was closed, so I wasn't going to be able to get a check cut for them until the following morning (less than 24h) The sales person, not knowing what to do, brought the manager in who promptly told me he couldn't hold the car. I asked can't you just pull it around the back until the morning when we can get this taken care of? His answer was "no". So, I again explained that in the morning, I'll be able to get the credit union on the phone and take care of the finances. He tells me "well I don't care if you buy it or not, someone will". With that statement, discussion was over..salesperson had lost the deal because of his manager! We promptly walked out. By the time I made it home they were calling of course. After going to another dealership were they know the value of a customer and making a purchase, received another call, from the Manager this time. And added a 2000$+ mechanic fee I didn't agree to, completely took advantage of me and said everything possible to confuse me and get me to agree. Car wasn't even cleaned when I got it now I have a 40,000$ loan i didn't agree to for a 13,000$ vehicle. Then pressured me to sign quickly and didn't go over anything with me as I thought the numbers were what he had told me originally. The sales guy was the definition of a snake oil salesperson.
