Crispy vegetable fried rolls (3/5) - filling was kind of bland and mushed up when I bit into it - the sauce was not sweet as I had hoped Papaya salad (2.5/5) - my auntie makes papaya salad and I measure them all by hers and unfortunately I just wasn't a fan, it was ok but nothing that I would crave Classic yellow curry (3/5) - flavor was there, the potatoes are somewhat undercooked in the middle and they kind of skimped on the chicken unlike previous order, there was a lot of curry which I enjoyed over the heaping box of rice Pad woon sen (4/5) - the glass noodles were my favorite again, there were 3 pieces of shrimp and chicken mixed in (extra charge) but overall it was tasty, the glass noodles were cooked perfectly and the seasoning was nice and not overpowering Mango sticky rice (2/5) - probably not something for delivery as it's better eaten very warm - the rice was not soft enough and could have used more of the coconut sauce Who am I to complain about gifted food? Was craving Tom Yum soup, so I picked Nara Thai tonight. Really good broth. Even at a spice level 1 it had some kick. I was worried the bow wouldn't be big enough, but it was a good portion size. Only thing I would maybe change is more cilantro, less mushrooms. I also ordered some fresh rolls to start. There were 2 rolls cut in half, and they were very large. A good size appetizer for 2 people. Few other items on the menu looked good that I may have to try next time. The eggplant basil and the fried rice dishes caught my attention. I've given Nara Thai another chance recently. Last 2 times I've ordered, the spice level has been much closer to being accurate. Thai spicy is closer to white people spicy, but I can live with that compared to getting mild. Probably need to order Extra Thai Spicy to get legit Thai spicy. Parking, structure behind the restaurant and they provided 2 hours free. Saturday afternoon, the restaurant was basically empty, one other couple there. It's a nice quaint storefront, the bar looked like they could make anything and a good selection of beers. Something that I believe a lot of places could work on, the staff that seats you or brings the menu's, it doesn't hurt to be friendly. Return a "hello", something, just a little welcoming. Remember, you more employees than customers at the time we came in. The good, drunken noodles slightly more than mild spice were delicious. The spice went well with the Chang beers. We also got the Thai wings, really not something I would order again. Pretty basic. Even the dipping sauce "sweet Thai" wasn't much help. The people who rated this place highly must not have working taste buds. It was some of the worst food I've ever tried! The panang curry literally made me physically ill in one bite. My body rejected it because instead of a rich, coconut curry, it was thin and watery, tasted like rancid chicken soup. It was full of giant raw carrot sticks and a few shreds of beef gristle. The pad Thai was also a joke of gummy noodles hardened into a solid mass, under unwashed sprouts and tofu that tasted just like water. There was no seasoning whatsoever, so it tasted like dirt, water and lime juice. This was SO BAD!!!! And now I'm worried I'll throw up from the rancid "curry". I want to sue for pain and suffering. Upon arriving for lunch with my two girls, we were told to sit anywhere we'd like since it was pretty empty. Only 2 other tables were already occupied. After we sat down, it took the server an extra few minutes to come and take our orders for drinks. On a hot summer day, you would think she had some sense to bring us water without asking. We ordered 3 Thai teas and water. She brought back 3 Thai teas and 1 water. Fried calamari was not fresh, too chewy, barely any calamari, and overly breaded (to hide the fact it wasn't fresh). Aside from that, the rest of the food were phenomenal. We were still sitting there and talking, our server decided to bring me my check. We weren't even finish eating yet and wanted to place an order with dessert. Even though the business weren't busy at the moment, they need to train their staff to tend to the customers. She also spend more time tending to another table who came in for a quick lunch and going to the back of the kitchen instead of checking on us to see if we needed anything else. Drunken noodles are normally my favorite dish to get at Thai restaurants, but the pad thai here is what impressed me! Definitely one of the best pad Thais I've had in a long time! It was flavorful with a good amount of sauce. Not dry at all. And the shrimp was cooked just right. The drunken noodles were okay, but the noodles were a little undercooked and tougher than they should've been. We got the Thai tea as well, which was pretty good. Tasted just how it should. Our waitress was attentive and the space was clean. They also have $1 glasses and $5 bottles of Martha Stewart's Chardonnay. I wasn't a huge fan of it, but for $1, it's hard to complain! I stopped by for a post-theatre late lunch so it was very quiet except for steady take-out orders. I ordered hot jasmine tea, Tom Yum soup with chicken and Green Curry Beef. The temperature of everything was hot and the spice levels were as requested (I requested mild on the green curry). I feel this is one of those classic go to places which is great for any family to have. My husband and I love the openness of the building even before Nara took over the space. Our love of Thai food keep us coming back along with ordering online. The food is constantly well prepared within a timely manner. The apps are always tasty. Good portion sizes. Great for groups even as we learned with a couple day notice to host a mini dinner after our elopement. My favorites are the soups along with the drunken noodles. Solid place for Thai food but I think it is pretty Americanized. I cannot get over Thai places that use American broccoli instead of Chinese broccoli. I ordered the chicken satay and the pad see ew (my go-to barometer for "grading" a Thai restaurant). The satay had good flavor and came with the peanut sauce and pickled veggies. Chicken was a bit on the dry side. The meals here allow for diners choice of spice level and I ended up doing the "spicy" option, which is a tier down from "Thai spicy". It had good heat to it still and I found myself sweating at the end of the meal. The pad see ew was on the soupier side but overall had a good balance of sweet savory and spicy. Service was great. I placed an online order through Yelp for pick up from Nara Thai on a weeknight. It was ready for pickup earlier than the anticipated time so that was great. They do have curbside pickup available, but I ended up parking in the deck located behind the restaurant. The chicken curry puffs were surprisingly better than I expected! Very crispy and the chicken curry was very flavorful. Not spicy to me, so may be good for people who have low spice tolerance. I decided to get the chicken pad Thai mild and it was good to me! Mild may be spicy to people who cannot tolerate spicy food. I would definitely order both again. Overall would recommend Nara Thai. Prices are about average for this area. I think this place has great potential. It's the first Nara Thai location inside the loop other than Nara Thai express which isn't nearly as nicely decorated, or as big and is in a sketchy part of town. There is plenty of parking at this location in a dedicated parking garage that's free to park in just adjacent. The restaurant seems to be on the first floor of an apartment complex. It's very nice inside. The ceilings are high, the decorations are a nice mix of modern and traditional. The tables are chic and comfortable. They have a little tea candle at each table. A lot of the decorations/fixtures are from Ikea. There were /a lot/ of flies. While we were dining there wasn't any period of longer than 1 second in which a fly wasn't coming around to try to land on our food - it was both fruit flies and regular sized flies. They really need to work on this unless for some reason it was a fluke and a ton of flies flew in that day we happened to visit. In addition, I went during dinner time on a weekend and there was only one other party there dining. I'm not sure if they didn't have a great advertising crew but it seems like no one knows about this place. If you're going for a busy bustling ambiance you won't get it here, at least not yet. Thai Tea Not too bad in terms of price, under $4 and it was pretty large in a tall glass. Standard thai tea, delicious - a bit on the sweet side but that's typical for thai tea. Crab Angels You know I really feel like it's done better at the Nara Thai Express location - it was a bit saltier at this location All the main dishes come with your choice of protein - based on the protein you pick the price varies. The meat isn't too high quality in general but they're not unreasonably tough in general. There's a spice range you can choose from 1-5. 2 is their 'medium' spicy - I picked 3 and as someone who tends to eat on the spicy side I'd say 3 is spicier than the average person would choose so I think their judgment is accurate. Veggie Delight Comes with a nice variety of baby corn, cabbage, green beans, etc. Sort of sweet which is interesting for a brown sauce. Panang Curry Creamy and delightful - carrots and bell peppers but not a significant amount of veggies. Served with white rice (not the sticky kind). Service is very, very, very sweet. I loved our waitress; what an endearing person. She even apologized about the flies w/o being prompted. read more

Long time no review. But this place has sparked my editorial vibes to life. Friday evening sitting with the fam and trying to figure out a spot for take out. Wife says to me "this place has great reviews/ratings". Looked at it and noticed there were about 30 reviews. A little low in the sample size but whatev. Lets give it a go. Ordered three dishes: 1. Red curry w beef - the sauce was bland, limited in flavor and loaded with beef and avocados. But wait. The avocados had black spots through out- which i googled to suggest it may be either rotten or over ripe. The beef was dry and tough. Needless to say the dish was nibbled at, scoffed at and left for some flies. 2. Pineapple fried rice with chicken: this one also was bland without much taste. The rice was like slimy but with a lil fried effect on it. My guess. They steamed the rice. But forgot to really fry the rice afterwards? The chicken i thought was ok. But the flavors were just absent. As i was chewing i had to look down to see what i was eating to ensure i wasn't accidentally eating my paper napkin. Point being- no flavor /bland. I could have made this dish. 3 . Pad thai w chicken: wifey took a bitey and said "im done." Noodles were short congealed rice noodles with the texture of chewing a blob of jelly. Taste wise was like biting into a dish rag that has been sitting in the sink for exactly 2 days. Our experience was terrible. Maybe this was because it was a friday or because this was take out?? I was lucky enough to stop by during the soft opening of Nara Thai's brand new location on Washington. It's just down the street from Max's Wine Dive. First, the space is stunning. They did such a good job revamping the design. Somehow they were able to make it feel airy and open while at the same time intimate. There's a small bar area upon entry and table seating to the right. The price point is in that sweet spot: not too expensive, but nice enough for a casual date, you know what I mean? The staff is welcoming, courteous, and observant of masking and social distancing practices. Also... look for the hidden photograph (painting?) hanging in the rafters ― a fun little secret. Nara is bringing its tried-and-true Thai authenticity to the area. Neal, the owner, is so friendly and knowledgeable about the industry (he's got 5 restaurants under his belt) ― say hi if you see him around! In times like these, we are craving comfort and control, and our server made sure to ask us how spicy we wanted our dishes. Also, in times like these, supporting local is more important than ever. I loved knowing that I could get to know the Nara staff and return to say hi again. So important to have that connection these days. Nara's menu has something for everyone. You can get some fantastic super spicy authentic pad kra prow if you want it, or you can get the kid's menu orange chicken for, you know, those people who like orange chicken. I don't usually eat it but, might I add, Nara's orange chicken has a great texture and it might even be better than the orange chicken at Panda Express, and this is coming from someone who has a lot of friends who swear by Panda Express orange chicken. Come at me! The chicken curry puffs are like... little delicious Thai emapanadas. So good, and I practically wanted to drink the cucumber relish that it comes with (yes, I dumped it all over my curry puff before each bite). I love pad kee mao, and they'll make it with the protein of your choice. I could go on and on about what to order, but save room ― the best capstone to your night is some sticky rice dessert. I loved that the rice was warm and just the right texture: a tad al dente on the outside, soft on the inside, the perfect amount of coconut milk all over. As with any restaurant in its soft opening stage, there are some things they need to work out, and I am confident that they will. Parking can be found conveniently in the garage behind the building. They are doing delivery and takeout too, so treat yo'self. Get a Topo Chico with your meal, or, yes, they got the Juarritos too. You deserve it. I can't wait to come back again and again! read more

Many people were getting take out from here, clearly indicating it's popularity. One issue was the long wait time - I can see what people are saying in some of these reviews.
