I was thoroughly impressed. The restaurant was very cozy and was decorated appropriately for the season. The guy who helped us was so nice and accommodating. I got the chicken cutlet with everything but olives and hot sauce. It was very good. They did not skimp out on the chicken, she was thick! I wasn't a big fan of the temperature difference between the hot chicken and the room temp grinder but it didn't bother me enough to not like the sandwich as a whole. Never been to any Nardelli's before ... after this experience I'm not likely to ever go back either! I was craving a steak sub so I ordered one up for delivery via Grubhub to try Nardelli's which SUPPOSEDLY is a good deli.... long story short this place is really gross with staff that apparently doesn't care if you end up in the hospital! I have a severe dairy-allergy which I clearly noted in my order details as follows: "Dairy allergy - no cheese of any kind please" however despite this my $20+ sub arrived slathered in cheese. Anyone can make a mistake however when I called to let the store know they acted like it was my fault and I told me "the steak subs are pre-made with the cheese melted into them". WTF....?!?!? o_0 Talk about disgusting ... this "deli" has PRE-COOKED "Steak-Umm" grade meat replete with old rubbery cheese on it sitting around waiting for your order! (If I wanted THAT I'd just get Subway!) What a joke ... would leave ZERO stars if it were an option! *(fortunately Grubhub fully refunded me) EDIT: 4/21 Weds. I spoke with Lowell from Nardelli's on the phone yesterday and he said he is sending me out a gift-card so I can try again. (at a different Nardelli's!!) Highly recommend for catering! Always love their subs and this weekend was the first time I used them for catering. All of the food was absolutely delicious and abundant. Their was a nice variety of food in the "Enough is Enough" catering plan so everyone was able to enjoy a full meal. The staff and delivery person were extremely friendly too. The food was delivered hot so I could serve it immediately and everyone boasted on the flavour and variety. Will definetly use them again! read more

Not sure about all the hype with this place. Sure they make a decent sandwich but my socks were not knocked off. I had the Italian combo with the classic mix minus olives. It was good. But would I say this is the #1 sub shop in Ct? Nooooo way!! I think it's better than subway, not as good as jersey mikes and definitely not as good as the #1 place which is Gaetanos (read my review). Great sandwich shop in a small shopping plaza with plenty of parking. This is our second time there. We got the Italian sub, the grilled chicken chipotle, tomato and mozzarella salad, chocolate cannoli, Cherry cheesecake and homemade pickle. The sandwiches are very good stuffed to the brim and they are very generous with the meats and cheeses in the sandwiches. The cheesecake was good not amazing the cannoli was super good chocolate covered and very good filling although a bit skimpy in the chocolate chips. The pickle in my opinion needs to cure a bit more in the vinegar. Tomato mozzarella salad is good tomatoes are fresh and the mozzarella is tasty (if you take to go be careful the container leaks ) They take credit card and are fair with their prices. We will be back again for sure read more

I was pretty happy to hear a branch was opening closer to me, and I am not disappointed. I really enjoy this place. The subs are huge and prices are reasonable-I can barely finish half, so I always feel like I am getting a LOT for my money. I have had the chicken parm and the steak and cheese several times, and everything is always fresh and they don't skimp on ingredients. I am also a fan of the broccoli/cavatelli and potato salads. The staff is very pleasant, and the place is clean. It is definitely worth a trip. read more

It has a good amount of tables and window bar seats in the spacious seating areas inside with a relaxed atmosphere to dine in as well as a couple of tables on a patio outside. This deli offers a wide range of options for meals. From grinders to ribs to salads to soups to desserts (including the cheesecake burrito), this deli has it!! The food served here is all high in quality and very fresh, and at very reasonable prices. The turnover at this location is high as well, as clusters of people flow in constantly. The staff at this Nardelli's is attentive and efficient. Each server makes sure you are taken care of before moving on to the next customer. They are very pleasant and very hard-working, and know how to handle crowds that inevitably file in. If you leave a tip--and hopefully you're kind enough to acknowledge the staff's efforts--then the cashier will ring a bell hanging by the register and yell "Grazi!" You'll undoubtedly hear echoes of this thanks from the other servers in the kitchen. It's a fun touch to this great deli. read more

So I definetly got food poisining today from the bacon bbq chicken. It's literally the only thing I had to eat today. I bought a whole, had some at the time of purchase and some later with a lot left over still! Ate around 3:30 / 7:70 and am now stuck on the loo. Best grinder shoppe in CT, if you are from out of state, you need to stop by. There are many Nardelli's in different towns and they are all good; but if your near oxford you are in for a treat. There service is top notch super friendly and the grinders are loaded, always leaving satisfied, but at times a craving for more. I was so glad when they opened in oxford; as for me I live in New Haven which is still a ways away, but driving all the way to Naugatuck for their grinders was almost an epic quest. There are so many good things to get at Nardelli's, but I too have my favorites, which I highly recommend. For starters since it is a Deli, you should try the Italian Combo with everything on it. The kicker is their Secret Classic Mix which needs to be on every grinder you order. Next item is a tie between the BBQ Rib and the Pulled Pork, both are very tender and juicy. I am craving and salivating for them now as I wright this review. Lastly is a desert but can't be left out... The Cheesecake Burrito, yes I know it sounds epic, and it never disappoints. I think I give an edge to Guerra's because they're local owned and small buisness and Nardelli's is big buisness chain. I was in the area ( I live in PA) to pick up an item I bought on eBay, so I googled the nearest Location. Very good lunch, real happy I stopped in. I'm from LI, so I know good deli's :) and I've had cheesesteaks in Philly, muffulettas and po'boys in New Orleans and Italians in Portland, ME. So yes, I've got an idea of how a sandwich should taste. Anyway, nardelli's is awesome. Quick friendly service, HUGE sandwiches (I got an Italian, my son got the American), I loved the hot sauce with the mayo, the meats were fresh and tasty, and the bread had just enough bite. My only experience with a Nardelli before my visit was with some guy at work named Nardelli. He constantly quoted stupid Friends TV episodes all day long. Now I doubt he was related to ths Nardelli family because he was from out-of-state but needless to say I disliked him very much. And before my visit I just naturally assumed Nardelli's Griner Shop was some sort of glorified Subway shop. Well I was pleasantly surprised to find it's not like Subway at all. In addition to the usual cold/hot grinder items they have an impressive assortment of counter items such as pasta salad, stuffed breads, and even lasagna. My only concern is I wonder how long that stuff has been hanging around, because I doubt they get the customer traffic for a fast turnover rate. It is Oxford CT afterall, not Grand Central Station. But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they're on top of keeping everything fresh. I know the cannoli I ate tasted very fresh. In fact, they have such a large quantity of menu items, I think if I ate here every day for a year I'd probably never eat the same thing twice. And there's a good chance I'd have some leftovers because one full grinder can likely feed two people. Seeing that this place is filled with lots of traditional Italian goodies, I'm guessing it would be "mom approved"....by my mom at least. So in summary, I don't like Nardelli the co-worker, but I do like Nardelli the Grinder Shop. read more

I was craving a pastrami sandwich, pretty simple. They proceeded to take a wedge of, what looked like lasagna, and put it in the microwave, then on the bread. Turns out it's some sort of pastrami bake. Disgusting. Nothing like a pastrami sandwich. I had a feeling when my pastrami was being nuked I wasn't going to like it so I ordered an Italian combo. Yeah, not good either. I don't even know how they managed to mess this one up. If I am EVER in the area again, and absolutely starving, I might consider trying the chicken salad. Had catering for a large party and everything from ordering with them on the phone to calling with payment days later was great. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Food was excellent. Overall rating was B-/C+ until today. The grinder rolls are the best part of the sandwich. Consistently The "hot" sandwiches are only lukewarm which I find disappointing. The main ingredients are pre-made and come out of a refrigerated case which contributes to the problem. A hot grinder should be hot and fresh and gooey. I usually opt for pulled pork but yesterday I ordered an eggplant parm grinder. there was no eggplant in the refrigerated case in the front and I heard another employee say the eggplant is in the back. I never saw my sandwich being made. When I got it home I was disappointed to find basically an eggplant and cheese Panini. The roll was smashed flat and charred on the outside, there was not a drop of tomato sauce to be found (hello...Parmesan!!!) and there was one paper thin slice of cheese. the eggplant was not cooked through and was bitter, a sure sign that it wasn't fresh. I tossed it after just a couple of bites. The staff is basically inexperienced kids. Food is more expensive than ever and I wasted $12 I'm definitely done with Nardelli's. read more

I was so happy to find you guys are located across the street from the place I get my haircut from!. Food is amazing. Great portions and pricing (the veggie mix is awesome on all sandwiches!) But my suggestion is to have that during BBQ season cuz that kind of wich is perfect for any BBQ! But if it's too cold and wintery like during wintertime, go for the cold sandwiches or the Crab & Shrimp sandwich! SO someone from Nardelli's replied to my original comment regarding the food. The individual asked that contact him, hoping i would return and give them another try. I returned, not looking for a handout but when you ask a customer to return and tell him that you would in so many words compensate me for coming back i was expecting a little more than a senior citizens discount. But thats not even the issue, at least be prepared to recommend something to your returning customer that wasnt very happy. But no, dude gave me no ideas and i still wasnt happy. So im gonna say this spot looks better than they are. I've heard great things about this place and have been looking forward to going for quite some time. Solid delis are hard to find. My go-to sandwich is typically roast beef on a Portuguese roll, so that's what I ordered. I asked if the roast beef was cooked in-house and the girl helping me didn't understand what I was asking, as she answered "sure, we can put it on anything you like". The roast beef was over-cooked and whatever roll they gave wasn't a Portuguese roll, although not quite a hard roll either...maybe their version of a port? The portion size was good though. On a bright note, I got a side of tortellini pasta salad which was fresh, tasty, and tender. The place was very clean and everything in the cold case presented very nicely. I will definitely go back again, but will likely go with an Italian style sandwich vs. an American style as I suspect that's what they're better at. read more

I ordered the cavatelli & broccoli salad. There were 3 pieces of broccoli and all pasta. Very very bland in flavor and half of the pasta was hard and dry in areas, so clearly not fresh. If you want a Nardellis experience, DO NOT COME TO THIS LOCATION!!! Just drive to the Naugatuck location i believe its the original. My first experience at this location was horrible. I ordered the buffalo chicken sub expecting i would get fresh chicken and fresh buffalo sauce, but when i took my first bite the chicken was tough and tasted like its been in the freezer for way too long. I immediately threw out the sandwich. A TOTAL WASTE of my money. Today I thought maybe they fired their INCOMPETENT EMPLOYEES BUT i was wrong, I ordered a turkey club assuming that it wouldn't be heated in the oven with "everything" i had asked for on it. Let me make it clear that I think nardelli's is one of the best in the area. I had been to their locations mostly in the Waterbury area in the past and had been pretty happy. However,,sorry nardelli's,, my last experience at the oxford store was quiet bad. Ordered a baked pastrami sandwich. There were pre cut and assembled blocks of pastrami and what it looked like cheese in the display fridge. A block of this stuff was placed in a microwave and then onto a nice bread. Only asked for a little lettuce because I wanted to taste the pastrami the most. The sandwich was quiet awful. The meat/cheese had taste of something that had been in a freezer for a while then onto the refrigerator for another couple of weeks. If this sandwich was made by subway, it would not have been surprising because they don't know what quality is. But it was disappointing coming from nardelli's. The best thing about the sandwich was the bread. I understand some prep and use of microwave is necessary for a high volume place but gotta come up with a way to not sacrifice quality. I love their wonderful sandwiches, but more importantly, I LOVE LOVE LOVE their customer service. I am addicted to Diet Dr Pepper and they don't carry it.
