This bar deserves 5 stars just for the fact they had Amber Rose and the Renegades grace everyones presence with an amazing show. As a long time roadie of the band I am still blown away by what Amber can do with a microphone in her hand and Ray on the guitar. Heard a lot about this place and our first visit did NOT disappoint! A busy Saturday night brought us in before the live music for a family dinner. We had chipotle chicken sandwich, Reuben with fries, and fish tacos. The fries that came with sandwiches were GREAT and the sandwiches were top shelf. A dirty martini was just right, not too salty and not too clean- beer list is extensive and came out quickly. Julia was a very attentive server who gave us 'on point' advice on the food. The service started with pointing me to a cooler to get my own water (the cooler was empty) and went downhill from there. It took a very long time to get our food. After placing our entree order and waiting 30 minutes our waitress came back and told us the kitchen was closing and asked if we wanted to order entrees. She clearly forgot to put the order in. The food was meh. Calamari was a bit under done and the Rueben Egg Rolls were bland (how do you make corned beef and sauerkraut bland?!). Our family had lunch here on a Friday afternoon. I ordered the cup of chowder with two clam cakes which I have never had before. The chowder was good and had a lot of clams. I did enjoy the clam cake. It was like a hush puppy with chopped up clams. The dipping tarter sauce was very tasty. My wife got the garlic Parmesan wings that she enjoyed. The rest of the table got fish and chips, fish sandwich, and burger. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Best thing was an ice cold Narragansett draft that I have not had in a while. This is our local spot and it's always been a decent standby option for a beer and typical pub fair. We pretty much only went when we wanted a bite out without driving too far or spending a lot of money. I would have previously ranked it three stars - perfectly serviceable. They recently updated their menu and it went from decent to amazing! We got the steak burrito melt and cafe steak for takeout and both were phenomenal. The steak was cooked perfectly even after transport home. It's so great to finally have an amazing year round dining option on island without the fine dining price tag. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped in for our first time a couple weeks ago. The menu had a few selections that caught my eye but being by the water, I chose to try their fish tacos. I was happy with my choice because they were some of the best I've ever had. They were so flavorful and was loaded with fresh fish, lightly battered. I didn't have the chicken sandwich but it's my boyfriend's go to meal so he has tried many chicken sandwiches he enjoyed his meal as well. My wife and I just happened to stop into this café today because honestly I wanted to use the restroom and I didn't want to just go in and not buy anything!... So we sat at the bar and ordered a couple of sodas and these clam cakes. I thought they were just gonna be six little tiny clam cakes that would take me about two minutes to eat, oh, how I was surprised!... These clam cakes were huge and came with a tartar sauce, dipping sauce, and it was basically a lunch meal for us! They were so good and if I go back to Jamestown Rhode Island again, I'm definitely gonna stop in and get these again. They were that good! Took the ferry from Newport, had 90 minutes to grab lunch so trekked close by to the Narragansett. It's a darkish bar, my wife & daughter weren't expecting much but right up my alley. The bartender (Michelle?) came right over to take our orders, was very friendly and polite. Daughter and I both grabbed a 'gansett (think it's the law in RI, LOL) and placed our orders. My steak sandwich was surprisingly good, my wife liked her Reuben, and my daughter got the calamari as her meal. All were happy, and the fries were particularly good. Though working alone, Michelle checked back on us and quickly delivered the check when asked. Not a fancy joint, just good honest food with better than average service. This RI institution of entertainment is well known, affectionately called "The Ganny." The reputation is dive bar with great music and it lives up to this every single day. The walls are adorned with autographed photos of musicians - international stars as well as lots of local talent. There is a large, round bar and a decent sized dance floor. Tables fill up fast, especially on Sundays when the music begins at 4pm. The food menu is somewhat limited but what they have is pretty good. We shared an order of fried calamari and a quesadilla. The calamari is served two ways. Ours was Lightly breaded rings tossed with hot pepper rings, garlic butter and served with marinara sauce. It was delicious! Quesadillas come in three choices and we settled on the veggie: Red peppers, onions, mushrooms and shredded cheese, served with salsa and sour cream. Also hit the spot between dance floor appearances. The crowd tends to be serious about their music and their dancing. Always an absolute pleasure and top notch entertainment, right smack in the middle of the historic fishing village of Jamestown. The drive alone is with the trip. If you like a dive bar this is definitely a great place to pop into. There are TV's, pool tables, shuffle board, and a large square shaped bar. We went in for lunch and I couldn't have been more pleased with the service and the lunch that we ordered. I asked the bartender what was the place known for and she said that they won an award for the best Reuben so I was quickly sold on her recommendation and we also ordered the Greek Salad. The salad was excellent and the Reuben blew me away! If you're in the area and love a Reuben, do yourself a favor and stop in for a bite and beer. read more

Food was just okay. I got the fried chicken sandwich that was SUPPOSED to come with sriracha aioli, but arrived with just lettuce and tomato. When I asked the waitress for a side of sriracha aioli I was told something like "I'll try but the kitchen is really busy". The place wasn't even busy. My friend piped up and said that it was supposed to come on the sandwich and then the waitress went and got it. OK, so the five stars is for the fact that you're getting pretty decent for food. You're getting very good live music on the weekends and you're getting a great local crowd on Monday nights the kitchen is closed and you can bring your own food which is great because you can go next-door to Angel's or order a pizza from Jamestown pizza either way this is a really great local pub with a pool table games there is a gaming league, so yeah it's definitely worth popping in very affordable cocktails. read more

This was a very rustic place visually. The waitress/bartender was excellent. She was working the tables and the bar by herself and provided excellent service to all. She had at least 4-5 tables about 14/16 people at tables as well as bar patrons. I had a nice hot bowl of thick clam chowder and my partner had some "stuffies" clam stuffing baked in a clam shell, they were delicious. We enjoyed our time here. She let us know they are a live music venue and were having live music that night with a great band. We didn't make it back though. Great little stop for a light meal. read more

Stopped in because this place has been there forever but it should remain an old-school neighborhood dive bar and I say that as a fan of good dive bars. The food here seems an afterthought, not much of it good, at least from our experience. The server (name escapes me) was very efficient but the food was terrible, save for the clamcakes which were decent and loaded with clams, as were the fries, salty and delish crisp. But the Reubens we ordered (without bread) were delivered in a platter with fries, these little dessicated squares of what was, I guess, corned beef - and nothing else. No sauerkraut, cheese, dressing, nothing. Sent them back and back they came lumped with the remaining ingredients and by then, largely cold fries; they should've given us fresh ones. Also ordered coconut shrimp that was tiny, burned and so dry we had to swap for a salad. And we had the New England style clam chowder, which is supposed to be thick and creamy, but this was a blend of what seemed to be that and RI chowder, which is all broth, no cream. This was a watery mix of both, and not good. Granted, this could've been an off day, could've been shorthanded, but this place should stick to serving liquor and music (which they're apparently very good at), and go with their strengths. The other entree didn't come out until my husband ate his food. When the server came back to take plates away I asked where my food was and they said oh they forgot yours. Don't be fooled by the quaint and pastoral sounding name of this place, which conjures up images of iced tea, avocado toast, and nautical, Instagram friendly decor. The Narragansett Cafe is a dive bar in the heart of Jamestown, Rhode Island that caters to a decidedly local clientele and features live music, beer, and a limited menu. We visited recently for the Blues Brunch, and I was disappointed with the experience, especially because I was looking forward to a low key brunch with friends, and the idea of live music and food is always good in theory. The visit started off on a good foot. They have an extensive selection of brunch cocktails, including twists on mimosas and Bloody Marys, and even virgin options if you have folks under 21 in your party. I was also pleasantly surprised to see an Aperol Spritz on the drink menu, especially since that's the last cocktail I would associate with a dive bar. My friend got that and enjoyed it. They also had about ten brunch food offerings, including French toast, burgers, and a breakfast pizza that was apparently featured on local television's "The Rhode Show". Interesting. However, even though all of the options sounded tasty, they were expensive! I was hoping that with the rustic and laid back setting that we'd be getting some hidden gem cheap eats, but an egg white omelet was $15, and it was something I could have made at home. Others in my party got the breakfast pizza, which looked yummy and was a big / filling portion, but I was bummed with the omelet. Womp womp. Blues fans will be delighted with the live music that begins around 1 PM during the brunch service. Word to the wise: get here before the music starts to enjoy your food and chat with friends and then by the time you're done eating, you can enjoy the band. The band was talented but the music was so loud! I couldn't hear people sitting next to / across from me, and if you aren't here to see a concert or weren't expecting the music to take center stage, you'd be smart to come earlier to eat and hang out. It was definitely not what I was expecting in terms of a relaxing Sunday brunch, and we all agreed that the music was a bit too much. Anyway, I'll probably give this place another shot for Trivia Night or later in the evening when I'm more awake and alert to listen to louder music. Husband and I tried some of their food and it was decent bar food. My husbands burger was cooked perfect and our wings were crispy. It could use a good deep cleaning. They have a juke box. I have been going to this bar since January 2022. It is FOR SURE a local bar that receives higher treatment than any others that come in. Friday, June 24th they had a great band, we got there early 7:18 to be exact it took us 15 minutes to get a drink and we immediately ordered and we were finally served at 8:49. the food was burnt and I saw the cook peaking out, hence our order was forgotten. Their biggest problem is I have been a bartender and server for over 20 years, and well frankly this is not how it's done! After dinner, we went to shoot some pool, and I went to the bar for another round of drinks. To my dismay, the 2 bartenders (with horrible attitudes) continued to serve others that had walked up to the bar after me. Then, one bartender comes over and asks the man behind me "can I help you?" at that point I spoke up, I said you have waited on 5 other people before me now you have the nerve to ask the person waiting in line BEHIND me! She then yelled you're rude your not my boss and I'm not serving you. I then told her she was rude and that I am not paying my tab. I don't care if ELVIS plays there I will never go back. don't bother going to this establishment the two female bartenders were so rude and disrespectful bartenders I have ever came across. there is nothing worse than trying square away your tab and get nothing but attitude not only by one but both. how they make tips is beyond me. everyone else was very nice and accommodating. they were so rude and condescending. they should really think about replacing them especially when there were times no one was present at the bar to serve the guests. awful I will never never go to this bar and I will make sure to share my experience with all my work colleagues and friends. read more
