A good restaurant if you want drinks and a nice view. The food is borderline inedible. The lobster bisque was a light pink color, but upon tasting it, this was no surprise because it was basically entirely made of milk and flour. Do not under any circumstances get the tuna poke. We left all of it empty. The tuna was soaked in soy. The chicken alfredo was drenched in oil. The only edible thing was the burger. read more

It's great to see a restaurant hire young waitresses to give them service experience although from a consumer perspective it is trying. Five in the party and three chose appetizers to share as their meal, which seemed to confuse the waitress even after explaining. The two of us who ordered entree items got to watch our mates semi enjoy their food and when they were done eating our meals were served. I recommend the fish and chips (but I subbed onion rings for chips) which was delicious, and more than enough fish for one. Onion rings were amazing although I would have liked more. The other "meal" was a fresh greens, beets and goat cheese salad with grilled chicken ordered as an extra. The poor woman who ordered this meal was sadly disappointed as it was not a meal regardless of the cost but simply a small side salad. Additional lettuce and more than 2-3 pieces of goat cheese might have improved the dish and not broken the bank for an over $20 salad. The calamari appetizer was meh. Chewy and not hot. The sauce stated on the menu had to be requested once the waitress was found. The nachos were average. Service took place on 7/11 so hopefully improvement was made as the summer season progressed. read more

Really wanted to have a better experience here because it's a gorgeous spot on the water but it was extremely underwhelming. The calamari was so rubbery and seemed frozen, the lobster roll didn't taste fresh, the fish sandwich was as super bland, and the stuffed shrimp were just lacking. The staff was nice but very young and obviously untrained. Not to say a college student can't be a good server but there are some key things (like don't reach over a person to put a plate down if you can avoid it etc) that are just basic serving things that need to be taught and our server unfortunately wasn't. I feel really bad leaving only one star but I really don't have anything good to say :( read more

I dined at 1230 Bistro a few weeks back and was extremely satisfied. The staff, food and view was excellent. My friends and I sat on the outside deck and the view as the sun set was gorgeous. Our young waiter Nick was so attentive and charming. The blackened swordfish was cooked to perfection as were the vegetables. We had a leisurely dinner with drinks and did not feel rushed. Drinks were great if you don't mind a long wait. The one positive about this place is the cocktails - well made, and also the view. We sat at our table for 20 min. before our server came to the table. People who arrived after us had their entrees before we even ordered our drinks. We sent back 3 out of 3 meals and only ate the french fries. They loaded their chowder and lobster rolls with dill - so much we had to pick it our of our teeth. Dill doesn't belong in either recipe - should be used sparingly if at all. The clam shack down the street gives twice the lobster meat and is only $20. This dump charges $32 and there's only enough meat to line the hot dog roll. The chowder had no clams in it and crumbs of potato. They were sports and covered 2 drinks for the inconvenience. They overcharge because they can...there's a nice view, but the poorly made food, long wait and atrocious service negate any positives of the ambiance. Avoid unless for cocktail only. read more

Wondered why this place is never busy. Now I know why. Ordered a $17 chicken Parmesan grinder to go (dinner portions). Asked for extra marinara on the side. Substitute onion rings for the fries. 20 minutes? No problem! 45 minutes later with about 4 tables seated and I was the only take out order... Bartender specifically asked if there were any other extra sauces I would like. I said, "As long as the extra marinara is in the bag, I'm good." "Yep, it's in there," was her reply. Came home. No extra marinara. Then, for $17 I had what amounted to about 4 chicken nuggets of "chicken parm" on a grinder with cold fries AND an order of onion rings that I was charged for (when I clearly stated "substitute"). The onion rings weren't bad,but that's not the point. No wonder why they aren't busy. Never again. Save yourself a trip and go elsewhere. read more

We had a fantastic lunch here on Tuesday August 21. Stuffies, Fish and Chips, lobster roll. All fantastic. And beer, wine and cocktails, of course. This was our second visit of our vacation. Our server, Trestin was wonderful. So patient, attentive and menu knowledgeable. He could not open a bottle of wine yet, but he will learn! Bartender Kyle, came to the rescue. I can't say enough about this bistro. It was purely a wonderful, world-class dining experience. The restaurant sits up on the top floor, with both indoor and open-air seating - all with an ocean view. My husband placed our names on the waiting list, but we were actually seated well before the 30 minute promised wait-time. Our table was in the far, left-hand corner, perfect for viewing the rocky beach and the Point Judith Light. Our drinks came, and we're just so-so. I ordered a glass of Moscato at the bar before we had been seated, and J ordered a frozen strawberry margarita. My wine was clearly NOT a Moscato, and I questioned our waiter, Patrick (who, by the way, is excellent). He pointed out my choices, so I chose instead a Riesling. It was good, but not great. J's drink did not have the punch of a good 'Rita. Perhaps it was the tequila. We ordered the pan-seared scallops and the stuffed mushroom appetizers. Both were outstanding. Sweet and tender, the scallops just melted in your mouth. The arugala greens and tomatoes were a nice platform for the scallops! The mushrooms were stuffed with sausage and ricotta (I believe). They were also, to die for. I only wish we got more than 4 pieces. Buttery, gooey, cheesy good! Our dinner rolls came hot, and we're very tasty. Our Caesar salad was cold, crisp, not overly dressed, and very flavorful. Fresh ground pepper was offered at each course. Refills of water were also available through a very, conscientious staff. When our salad came out, our waiter apologized that our entrée was ready, as well, and he wanted to go get that for us. It was Lobster Two Ways. A baked, scallop shell-filled casserole of lobster, bread stuffing, butter and seasoning, and a boiled lobster tail presented atop of its own shell. A side of roasted, red potatoes and vegetable medley accompanied our shared entrée. Absolutely perfect! Tasty! Melty! Patrick came by quite often to check on us. We never once felt rushed or pressured. We were so happy, thus far. As for dessert, we chose the in-house prepared chocolate mousse. Fresh, whipped cream with blueberries and mint sprig were added before coming out. Yes, we split this, and it was superb. Our compliments to their chef for a terrific job here. We are very pleased. So much so, we want to return for our 15th wedding anniversary in September! We're looking at rentals right now. Check out 1230 Ocean Bistro on your next visit to this picturesque community. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the gorgeous evening and the ocean breeze. Our waitress was lovely - attentive, efficient, friendly. I ordered the Caprese Salad and the tuna appetizer as my meal. My husband ordered the lobster fra diavolo. My tuna was good and my husband's lobster fra diavolo was good. I was disappointed in the Caprese salad - the tomato really makes the dish. If you don't have fresh, juicy, summer tomatoes - I think it's better not to have the dish on the menu at all. I ended up just eating the mozzarella. All in all - a solid choice. The menu isn't crazy fancy - it's good solid food. Hello After spending a great day at the beach we decided to have lunch so we went to this place...he had dinner the weekend before sitting on the roof top patio over looking the ocean. When we got there on Monday the patio was closed and then we decided to walk and came back to 1230 Ocean Bistro...as we went in a VERY friendly young lady called Chelsea welcome us with smile n she said, grab a sit where ever you guys like and we did.sat by the corner table and a very nice breeze n very nice atmosphere...noticed that when we were there Chelsea was the hostess..bartender.. server a jack of all trades...and at all times she provided EXCELLENT SERVICE WITH A sincere and welcoming smile...the food was OUTSTANDING...I had the fish sandwich and fries just delish and my cold beer I was in heaven...I will Definitely will be back to this place...so nice to see the locals enjoying their drinks and a fun and friendly atmosphere..this place is now in my favorite restaurant...and a BIG SHOUT OUT TO CHELSEA The Boys. read more

Talked up how good crab stuff cod is to my friend. We both ordered it and it was...meh. My friend thought it was mushy. It definitely wasn't as good at my moms! Our waitress was subpar. We are locals and have been waiting for years for this restaurant to come into its own-- and it has! I had the scallops appetizer...it was fantastic( unfortunately the arugula salad was drowned in lemon vinegrette dressing ) note to self- get the dressing on the side ! Ok. When the chef/owner worked at Two Gulls, I loved it. I LOVED breakfast and I loved their dinner even more. I brought my parents, we raved about it. So imagine our excitement when we found out 1230 was opening. We talked about it for weeks and dad even said, I don't care where we go on this vacation but we MUST be go that "two gulls place." So we did.... And we left with a ...."Eh, well that wasn't what we were expecting." First, the space is beautiful and the view is gorgeous Outside seating is a must. Apps We had a special of baked oysters with crabmeat and some cheese sauce and bacon. They were cold. They didn't bubble with cheese and to tell you the truth, I had forgotten that there was supposed to be grab meat Calamari, rings only. Is this frozen? Where are the legs? The olive, pepper, lemon sauce was black olive rings and banana pepper rings and cocktail sauce threw it off. No flavor. Just so uneventful. For dinner, dad and I split the whole bellies and the surf and turf special. The whole bellies were about 12 on a plate with fries. I thought they were ok but dad says they didn't "pop" and thought them to be overcooked. Surf and turf.. bland and cooked to medium when asked for medium rare. The lobster tail was so so small and we had about a bite each. The saving grace was the cod special with veggies and rice that my mother had and the really great service. I'm sad about this. I loved two gulls. But this place is expensive (way more than two gulls) and the quality just isn't there....not even close. I wish the chef/owner well and hope they get the kinks out. read more

Friends and I were driving around the area around dinner time looking for a place with a view. We stumbled upon 1230 Ocean Bistro. We were allowed to pick our seat so we picked it outdoors on the deck. We were greeted soon after. My friends order seafood while I order food off the 'from the land' menu. I had steak with rice and broccoli. It wasn't that great, very chewy. The view of the water is the best part about this place. I think the worst part about my experience was the customers (like a party of 10?) across from us. One guy in particular was too loud, he clearly had too much drink. I wish someone on the wait staff would have told him to be quiet. Kind of ruined the quiet dinner by the ocean. read more
