My son and I 'escaped' the horrible snowstorms in Pollock Pines to go to Placerville for almost a week - I was concerned that we wouldn't be able to get him out if he had a medical emergency. We had 3 local hotel/motel locations to choose from, none of which we'd ever stayed at before - Well, thankfully, we chose National 9!!! We got a room (the last one!!) on the first floor, accessible for my son, who uses a wheelchair! He wasn't able to access the bathtub, but we made do.... The room was very clean, very well stocked, and the folks in the office were some of the friendliest, most helpful people we've ever met!!! Nice sized mini-fridge, microwave, and a coffee maker. Honestly, all the comforts of home!! I highly recommend this motel - and am so happy that Placerville has such a pleasant place as this to stay at!!! read more

After going to almost every motel in Placerville to find either ridiculous prices or terrible service at 10pm at night, I stopped at the National 9 and was so relieved! I drove up and the parking lot was full, the property was well lit and unlike the other offices that were dark and closed up, the manager was alive and well and ready to assist. I wanted to see the room first so he showed me to an upstairs king room and I was pleasantly surprised. I made the purchase and got settled in to one of the cleanest and most well cared for older motels I've ever stayed in. So here you have the right price, clean rooms and good service. If I had to ding one star, and as a light sleeper, it would be for the freeway location, but as it wasn't as bad as I had anticipated. Thumbs up for National 9! read more

I requested a room with an accessible bathroom. When checking in the desk clerk, while very friendly, informed me that I didn't get the 'one' room they have that is accessible. He stated that whomever took my reservation didn't see my request. When I asked if I could have it now that he'd seen the request, he stated, "it's too late,". He essentially blamed the mistake on someone else and offered no real solution to the problem. I used to like this motel. I will give them credit for being clean. Unfortunately the front desk staff leaves something to be desired. Poor communication and a lack of any sort of standard procedures caused different employees to tell us different things about availability, price, check in time, and just about everything else it is possible for desk staff to get confused. It wouldn't be a huge deal but it isn't what you want to deal with in the middle of a trip, and when I (politely) told the girl who was here when we checked in that another employee had told us something different she raised the price and gave us a room upstairs as far from the parking lot as possible. We had requested a downstairs room, and watched the cleaning staff finish downstairs, so I know this was done solely to satisfy her desire to punish us for inconveniencing her by being there. It was really the poor attitude which motivated me to post this, (see other reviews mentioning Kim), I am guessing it had to be her. After finally getting a room and specifically being told our room was being kept available for us for the rest of the month ( the duration we intended to stay) we were then told the very next day the hotel was full and we would have to leave. Check out the reviews on Google travel, we aren't the only person this has happened to: one reviewer booked ten days and was then told he had to leave after three days because they decided to rent to someone else. Neither he nor I were offered any sort of compensation for the inconvenience, just a call from the office telling us to be out ASAP. To be fair the other two employees we dealt with were relatively helpful. In the end the facilities are acceptable but I would highly recommend getting EVERY detail of your reservation in writing, and possibly bringing an attorney and law enforcement with you, unless you want to renegotiate everything again when you arrive and then again on a daily basis. The only person I would recommend this place to is someone with a serious masochistic streak who finds being pushed around and humiliated to be some kind of turn on. read more

Our stay here was on June 1st 2019. We found the facilities to be clean and accommodating. It truly is no frills. They do include TV, small kitchenette area with fridge. Mrs. Patel wrote a false review under the name 435alisa Elk Grove, California on tripadvisor with other fake reviews after I told her I would write up my experience. She is the one that other have complained about and I am not the only person who had a confrontation with the front desk woman from reading other online reviews. My first visit, hotels.com messed up my date and I had to cancel and re-book. While in the office, man at the desk asked me to pay them directly so they don't have to pay hotels.com a fee. The next day, I stayed again only at the $48 dollar rate for a king room I booked and paid directly. The next week I stay and asked for the $48 dollar rate for three days. They said no and I stayed 1 night at $67. A few hours later the same rude woman calls and wanted to know if I would like to stay another night. Her husband said to call me, he wanted the $48 dollar rate. She said the best she could do was $55. She wanted me to go into that room now and I said, I had turned in for the evening. Called less than a week later and said I found the rate again at $48 for a king. She told me a queen goes for $48 and a king was $56. I told her I found it for $48 online and I would go online. She argues with me that the rate was wrong and she sets the rates. I booked and paid hotels.com a king room for $48. I called her back and told her I found it at that rate then she gets hostile with me that I did not call her first and she would of worked something out. I said I did. She would not honor the reservation and blames hotel.com for always messing this up. I said, I paid and you have to honor it. She refused to honor the rate and continues to sling insults at me and said if I showed up she would turn me away. After her verbal abuse, I cussed her out and she says Karma will get you. Called hotel club and got my refund and reported them how they tell customers to cancel their reservations so they don't have to pay a fee. This placed is run like an El Cheapo Depot. There are signs to unplug all the appliance when you leave. The rude woman at the desk says people leave things on all the time and it cost them money when we give a good rate and belittles me to make sure I turn everything off if I leave. The refrigerator, coffee maker, hair dryer and AC are unplugged and the room felt like a sauna. The AC is so loud, it sounded like an airplane motor. There is not even a clock in the room. Only the TV and lights are plugged in. I am sure she will use this as a personal sounding board once she reads this reviews slinging insults like she did on the phone. read more

We stayed here for one night in June and will be back!!! The rooms could use some upgrading and maintenance, but they were clean and had the best prices in the area. We arrived after 10pm on our motorcycle and were soaking wet. We had just gotten the seat recovered at Corbin earlier that day and it had taken 4 hours longer than expected. The weather was supposed to be clear but it decided to have an unexpected downpour about a half hour before we reached the hotel. When we arrived, the woman who owns the place when above and beyond! When we asked if we could have a hairdryer to work on drying a few of our clothing items, she insisted on having us bring our items down to her the next morning so she could put them through her dryer. She also asked her husband to move their car so our bike could be under a covered parking space and closer into the main building. The care she showed us was welcoming, and had a motherly feel. I've stayed at the National 9 Inn (heretofore referred to 6N- NatiNal NiNe iNN) in past trips to Placerville and wouldn't stay anywhere else. The rate here is half of what it is everywhere else in Placerville and is the best fit for my travel style. The past two weekends I stayed there during the King fire and I thought it appropriate to share my experience. I booked a stay at the beginning of the week for the weekend. 6N called me to make sure that I was coming because they wanted to block as many rooms to the firefighters as possible to aid in their efforts to fight the fire. I explained that I in fact was coming and was told that my reservation would be honored. We chatted briefly about the fire and smoke conditions and 6N asnwered all of my questions. I arrived and was checked in to what I've come to find is a good standard offering for a room. What I look for is clean, quiet, and comfortable.Their rooms are really clean. I don't mean kind of clean, I mean spotless. It is an older property so it is not luxurious. I'm not looking for luxury. The property is close to the road, which is convenient, but your wouldn't notice from inside because the room is very quiet. The King room we stayed in the first night is larger and worth a little more if you like to stretch out. The cable TV works, the side table, and the luggage rest make for a comfortable room layout. Coffee maker, microwave and mini fridge round out the room amenities. The queen is as comfortable if a little smaller. I have wrestled with writing a review for selfish reasons. I think many people will see the lower rate like I did and wonder if it was a good idea to stay there. When I took a chance I realized the gem I'd found that if too broadly shared would end up hiking up rates and spoiling the place. The more I thought about it the more I hope that like minded people will appreciate 6N for what it is and should know. I found the staff to be very courteous and pleasant. We don't drink coffee so they found us tea. Of course the breakfast is nothing more than a pastry and a beverage, but where some people would see the lack of variety as a chintzy attempt I see something else. What I get is that they are trying to create a homey place for locals to go to when they need a place to stay. They hang photography from a local artist on the walls in their reception area. They were vocal in their appreciation for the fire fighters' efforts. What I felt was a real desire to be welcoming but with modesty. It is not a destination. It does not mean to be. I felt very at home here as I traveled through and it met all of my needs. It doesn't need a remodel. It is not run down. It does not need a spa. I will stay here when I travel there next and hopefully I will pay more (maybe only just a little more) as others who are looking for a safe haven come to enjoy a restful night's sleep and 6N becomes more popular. I read some of the negative reviews and was able to discern the lack of substance in the most negative ones. In one case Jax R. just cuts and pastes something someone else wrote which I find quite disturbing for a number of reasons. I can only describe my own experience which was superlative. I hope others have a similar stay. read more

Cheap to stay at and right in between the Valley and the snow of the Sierra's highly recommended if you need a place to stay before your trip to Tahoe or just somewhere in the Mountains themselves. read more

It should be noted that this hotel does not allow for a third party to pay for the room even though some services, such as Booking.com allow for it. They will not rent a room to someone unless that person is paying for the room. When asked if they could accept cash, they said, "I don't know." When asked if they had rooms available that night for cash, they said, "I don't know." They also said that even if someone did have cash that they would have to have a credit card to cover the $50 room deposit. They were very unhelpful. read more

Without a doubt this was the worst motel I have ever stayed in for the price. My horrible experience began with a very rude lady who booked my reservation. About a week prior to my arrival date I called her to confirm and she didn't have accurate information about my reservation and wouldn't let me speak. Finally she saw that I had the correct information but didn't offer any apologies. When I arrived in the evening the room was like a furnace. The air conditioner worked but the noise was enough so that sleep was impossible. The sheets were old, the towels were flimsy and no soap or shampoo. The 'breakfast' offered was individually wrapped pastry, the kind you find in a vending machine. ONLY good think I can comment on is that the person at the front desk (not the reservation lady) was polite. In conclusion this would have been an acceptable motel if it were a Super 8 type of establishment where room rates were under $50. read more

Now, I am from Placerville and I realize that as far as hotels go, there is pretty slim pickings in this town. I had heard many good things about this hotel as an inexpensive and easy-to-access place to stay for out of town guests. However, when I asked about booking a room block for my wedding next year, I was brutally rebuffed. The manager Kim (who was not available the first 5 TIMES I CALLED and DID NOT return my calls) was rude beyond belief. I was literally speechless at the lack of professionalism and tact she displayed. She had nothing but horrible, nasty things to say about the large groups that had stayed there and went on to completely diss another local hotel. Now, I'm not defending loud or rambunctious groups, but I think it's tasteless to speak to potential customers about your "true feeling" about other guests. She continued to tell me that she was trying to "help me out" by warning me about the other hotel but insisted that she would not apologize any more for the things she said about them. She then told me that she was done with this conversation and proceeded to hang up on me. I will never, EVER let any of my friends, family or out of town guests stay here after her insulting manner. This place sucks!!!!! OK we showed up after driving for hours to check in to a room that was 30 degrees inside. We had reserved this room 2 weeks in advance so you would think that it would be a good idea to ask us when we would be arriving so that they could turn the heater on and have it ready when we arrived. Really pathetic that we had to sit in our truck with it running for 45 minutes while the room heated up and even then it was still like only 50 degrees. I actually went to sleep with my clothes still on under the blankets. That's just wrong on every level. Oh ya and the blankets smelled like very strong floral laundry soap. It was really strong. So, once we got home I decided to call them and let them know about my bad experience there that night and his reply was that he turns the heater off at 6pm. OK LAME! If you make a reservation then ask the people when they will be arriving so that you can turn the heater on 2 hours before they arrive. Right! I say 2 hours because the heaters are so old the it blew out cold air for like at least 30 minutes then luke warm are and then I gave up and got in bed fully dressed. So last night I worked 14 hrs on the fire line. Add 1.5 hr drive each way. That gives me about 6 hrs of sleep. That's not bad, can deal with it. The 4 phone calls I got from the manager while trying to sleep is the problem. I guess that with fire and all the displaced families snd firefighters that need a room, our room rates are jumping $30 a night and $50 a night on weekends. They were calling to let us know we owed them for the increase even though we prepayed. Seems very cheesy but am not flipping the bill. By the 4th call, I was a little pissed off to say the least. Came to stay here last Friday night through Sunday morning. Very nice staff! Very friendly and personable! I booked the room through booking.com for 4 people and once we arrived Friday evening the owner saw I had 2 small children and gave me a huge price break! I was really thankful for that! The rooms were clean, a full line up of cable channels and free wifi! What more could you ask for? The breakfast was just ok... Enough to get us over until we went out to eat.
