Honestly I never really leave bad reviews but I had an interesting experience here. Came in for an oil change, was told I needed to replace my caliper on the rear for 320 (no problem) had my dad checked it out and turns out the caliper was fine and the only thing that needed to be replaced was the pin and brackets that hold it together (pins were $20). Popped my hood and noticed my engine cover was missing. When I came to pick it up the guy who helped was extremely passive aggressive saying comments that it looks better without it. Then to top it off wished me a "happy taco Tuesday" first of all. It's Monday. Second of all, that was microagressive as fuck. If you're a woman maybe rent a man for the day to help you get fair pricing here. Pretty disappointed. read more

I was really happy to find this place since I had an emergency situation with my radiator overflow tank. I drove from Palm Springs this morning & got a check coolant signal on my 2002 CLK 320. I had added some coolant this morning, thinking that it was just low. But the situation became much more complicated since I had to replace the entire overflow reservoir since part of it broke off inside a small hose. Fletcher Jones had the part & these guys installed. Very trustworthy and reasonable! I have to say being new to the South OC area I was a little reluctant about finding a new mechanic, I called around and most mechanics in the area were charging double the price for the same work and they couldn't get me in until a week down the line. I needed a new sway bar link installed and I called National Auto and they were able to get me and out in the same day at half the cost of mechanics in the area. Nothing but great things to say about the staff here. I know who I'll be taking my car to from here on out! I did not want to write this but I think it is important to put out there for other people. My 2009 Tacoma was making a very loud metal on metal sound in the front wheel wells. This shop was around corner from where I was and I felt like it was a good reliable shop based on the reviews. I came and explained the issue to Fransisco and he took the truck back to inspect in a timely manner. He came back to let me know that he did an inspection and determined it to be a loose chain within my transfer case. I asked him how he came to that conclusion because it's an expensive job. Fransisco went as far as drawing it out for me. He didn't charge me for the inspection but I gave him $50 because I appreciated his effort and the information. He quoted me over $1500 for a used transfer case with the install. Trusting him, I called AAA and got my truck towed away. Long story short, I spent over $500 on a used transfer and installed it myself, then noticed that there wasn't really anything wrong with my original TC. I test drove the truck and it was still making the same sound. Confused, I did my own inspection (which I should have done on my own) and found that I had play in my wheel bearings. Which turned out to be the problem all along. I'm not sure if it was an honest mistake or he figured after he told me the price that I would take it on myself, so he led me in the wrong direction. The question I should've asked is how detailed the inspection was because it doesn't make sense that a reputable mechanic would confidently tell me that it was my transfer case without ever noticing that it could've been something as simple as wheel bearings. read more

BF took his car into National Auto Repair for an advertised coupon oil change. They performed the oil change promptly and at an acceptable price, but there were a few issues here. 1. The invoice stated that 5W-30 full synthetic oil was used. The correct oil actually used was 5W-20 regular oil. This does not speak well for their accounting, billing and computerized systems or the accuracy of their shop people in entering in the information. If they are lax in doing this, they may be lax in the repairs. Along with the advertised oil change is supposed to be a safety inspection. 2. Other issue is the written statement that rear drum brakes needed to be done "soon". Rear brakes are standard drums. Front brakes are disc. We watched the technician perform a visual inspection of the front and rear brakes. At no time did he ever remove the tires and drums and directly inspect the rear brakes or front brakes. Given the model of my BF's car, it is impossible to visually inspect the drum brakes without removing both the tires and the drum. There is no window, hole or opening on either the drum or the rear brake and wheel housing that would allow a visual inspection of the rear brake pads or brake mechanisms unless the real rims, tires and drums were removed, first. He could not have visually inspected the rear drum brakes and we watched the technician throughout the entire process. He did not remove the tires, rims or drum. There is no way he could have inspected as claimed. The technician saw us watching him and walked right up to us immediately and told us we needed drum brakes, so the claim we needed rear brakes was both verbal, directly to us, and written in the invoice. COVID shutdowns have dramatically reduced our driving and mileage over the 18+ months. We had our rear brakes done less than 20,000 miles previously by another repair shop that we consider to be very honest. Drum and disc pads don't wear out that fast. Assuming it was still under warranty, we decided to take it back to the shop that did the last brake job. After visiting National Auto Repair, we drove our car back to the repair shop that had done the brake job, less than 20,000 miles ago. Their inspection validated that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the brake systems and the rear drum brakes had well over 75% remaining life in them. Please take the negative comments and negative reviews about this place very seriously. Strongly suggest that you not blindly believe any "upsell" on repair and maintenance services for you car, if you choose to take you car to National Auto Repair. Have a competent mechanic you trust look it over afterwards. Note: the person entering the data into the computer invoice and taking our money at the cash register was a different person than the technician. Not sure if the name on the invoice is the correct person who actually performed the service and "inspection". read more

I'm not from around here and I was on my way to a football game for my son, on the way we got a flat tire so I went to pep boys and they were rude and said they couldn't help me so I went to Americas tire and they said it was a 2 hour wait and wanted to charge me $60 to put my spare on so I came to National auto and I pulled up and right away they started changing my tire and not even 5 minutes later they finished. I was in this shop about 2 weeks ago, getting a brake-job, air conditioning service and a diagnosis for my check engine light. There was another guy that came in for an oil change. He was demanding that the manager, Francisco, give him the discounted oil change price of $48 that comes with economy filter and 4qts of oil for common foreign cars, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, etc. When told his car (BMW) required 5 1/2 qts of oil and premium oil filter for $10 more, he angrily stormed out, wanting the extra oil and premium filter for free. Later that day, he posted 3 bad reviews on this site. At the time, I just shook my head in disbelief at how some people expect small business owners to work for free. Now, after seeing these false bad reviews, I need to stand up and speak up for this great repair shop. National Auto Repair owner John and the General Manager Francisco, run an honest, straightforward business with honest recommendations and no unnecessary recommendations. They did my brake job for the price they quoted me, re-charged my A/C and found that a spark-plug coil was bad, causing my check-engine light to come on. They are not the cheapest around, but by God, they have the best damn mechanics around, and they give the highest quality service at a fair price. I know, because I shopped around for these services before coming here. After getting a recommendation from a friend, Ken Dubose, I decided to get my work done here. So glad I did. AVOID THIS PLACE AS IF THEY WERE THE PLAGUE! If I could give this ZERO STARS I would. I called and took my vehicle into the shop for a diagnosis. I had a pretty good idea of what the issue was. I explained all the symptoms but understood that they needed to have the vehicle in hand to really find the problem and solution. The workers were polite which was the only plus. I left my vehicle there and went to work. They gave me a call after diagnosis so I could decide if I wanted them to move forward or not. After hearing about how much everything was going to cost (over $4000 for an $800 job) I am so glad I went to another place for a second opinion. If they were only going to charge me for what my car actually needed, this review would have been 5 stars. They decided that I was a dumb a$$ that didn't know anything about mechanics and after hearing they wanted to charge me for 6 extra unnecessary jobs + labor I knew immediately this place was dishonest. I typically do not like to go out of my way to write negative reviews, but I have to voice my experience so others don't get ripped off by this dishonest business. Good luck out there people, It pays off to do your own due diligence. UPDATE! After going through a bunch of their reviews I just realized a bunch of them are fake. I do SEO for a living and can spot these a mile away. First of all, after being there and seeing the shop, these pictures posted aren't even of the same place. Also looking at where some of the posters are from, they are way too far away. There is no chance in hell these people would travel this far to some random mechanics and give them 5 stars. Originally I came here for an oil change when they first opened because I received a coupon. Kevin was very courteous and helpful. I was in and out and felt respected. I liked it so much that I referred a female friend and this is why I gave 3 stars instead of 2. Second time I went here I asked for an estimate and was told 30 minutes by Luis. I understand things in a shop can be busy dealing with multiple cars but I did not feel valued as a female customer as two male customers who came in after we're spoken with before Luis came back to say $1000+ to repair the A/C with original parts. And that the work for today would be $165. I was expecting an estimate not a bill. I was not happy especially since another shop told me the repair would cost $280 and I just paid half that amount to this shop. SMH. I felt taken advantage of as a woman.
