I rarely give a 1 star review but they earned every bit of it: 1) I'm an executive elite with NRC...This is one of the only locations i've ever been to that status means nothing.. instead of going out to grab a car and go which as an executive elite or executive level you do at all the other locations, you have to stand in line and check in like everyone else...nice 20 minute wait 2) They had 2 options of vehicles...Nissan Versa (a small compact car, I'm a big guy) or soccer mom mini van 3) Windows were so filthy on the inside of the vehicle (didn't realize till I was driving towards the sun) that I had to stop at a nearby gas station and clean them because the glare off the dirt was blinding One compliment I do have is the girl who handled my check in was very nice and professional Someone from National Corporate Management really needs to get this location up to speed. read more

This location does not have Emerald aisle so you have to wait in line with everyone else...sucks! It takes forever if anyone is in front of you. You also don't get to pick the car you get and you can get stuck with a sucky vehicle. I love their Emerald Club! I'm a regular due to my job and I have reached Executive level. When you 1st start in the Emerald Club you can go to the Emerald Aisle and pick out the car you want. You jump in and just give the person at the booth your ID. No need to go to the counter. When you reach Executive you get a better choice of cars. I love it because I get to drive cars I would probably never buy because they are not practical, but they are fun! read more

I rented from this location on numerous occasions to which I know Shannon and Frank. However, I only know them because they are so friendly and helpful. There have been several situations in which I have needed either four-wheel-drive or navigation and they went out of their way to find the cars for me that matched my need. I also had a one way recently in which they gave me help on how to handle it with the destination station I was arriving in up in Durango. It worked out perfectly. I wish all national rental car stations would train here first because even though they are laid-back, they seem to really care about their renters. They pre-select newer cars for executive elites because it is no executive aisles. I've always got a great car here even when I was there for long-term and they were so very helpful. I would highly recommend this station and I would not rent from anywhere else in that airport. There is an Enterprise next door or next counter over but I promise you think national is a great job at the station. read more

The same experience you get at other rental agencies. I've never had a problem with this National location. Typically there is a wait, especially if you show up later in the evening/night when they have closed the National counter. You have to get assistance from the Enterprise people, and so a longer line. Overall, they have always had the car I wanted to drive and my bill has always been accurate. They go through the usual upsell, but I haven't had any problems with badgering when I decline politely. I dislike the very long hike to the lot with the cars. It's even longer than it used to be. Perhaps they are re-doing the old lots, as it is all fenced off. It's a long walk at night, alone, carting a bunch of luggage. read more

Facility is different than others National. They don't have the Emerald members benefit, where you choose the car you want as you go. They assign the car to you. This airport is busier than others I have visited but they don't have this benefit. If you have an early flight before 7 am nobody there to receive your car. Otherwise, nice people working car was decent but since I'm an Executive member, no upgrade offer since they don't have the Executive Aisle either!!! Reserved a full size suv and a full size car. Called the day before to change reservation to one less day. Our party of 9 arrived on time for our reservation and they had neither car. The manager finally gave us 3 compact cars at the same rate. What is the point of making a reservation? They knew they didn't have a full size car. The suv was late being returned. Counter worker went beyond the call of duty. I had a delayed flight into AMA and it was set to arrive after hours but the employee stayed knowing my flight was late. Saved me a bunch of headaches of finding alternative transportation. The previous day in Denver I had to rent from Avis since National was sold out. I spent over an hour in the Avis counter line. Counter workers were so slow trying up-sell. Finally at the counter, my transaction was really quick since I told them I just want my reserved class and no damage waiver. I'll never rent from Avis unless I become part of their Preferred program that works similar to National's Emerald Club. Oh, Avis charged me for a full tank of gas after I filled up down the street from their location. I got it reversed but while doing so the agent asked me why they might have charged me for the gas. My reply, cuz they are either they're trying to rip me off or they don't know how to read a gas gauge or both. read more

I know this location for National does not have the choose a car and go feature but they are as close to it as possible. Arrive at their counter and verify who you are and that you have a reservation and within seconds they are asking you to choose which car you would like and you re off with the keys! Return is just as fast so if you are running late you can still catch your flight. Did I mention the friendly staff! read more

I am an Emerald Club member and I travel quite a bit for work and liesure and use National for most of my ground travel. Usually I am very pleased with my choice. My trip to Amarillo was not up to my expectations. I made a reservation for my mid-size vehicle and that normally gives me the option to choose anything on the lot. When I told the desk I wanted a SUV with 4 wheel drive I was told they didn't have any, but they could let me have a midsize SUV with 2 wheel drive. I took it and made the tek out to the lot. Sitting on the lot were 6 4WD SUVs next to my vehicle. I went back to the desk and said I wanted to take one of those and I was told they are already "reserved" and theyy gave me the next best they could. I wasn't happy, but I took it. First, the tank wasn't full and second, the exterior was filthy. The next time I travel through Amarillo I will be using my Hertz or Avis preferred membership. read more

I know this location for National doesn't have the choose a car and go feature but they are close. This is the main reason I rent from National. Amarillo should work to get this option. I will have to say that this rental was not the cleanest National car I have ever picked up. The wheel wells were caked with mud other than that all was good. read more

Excellent service in Amarillo! I travel a fair amount with my job and rent from National as often as I can. Their selection of vehicles is good and they always provide prompt efficient service. On this trip, my husband and I flew into Amarillo to visit family. We did not make advance reservation, but had no problem at the counter. After returning the car and getting through airport security, I realized I left my sunglasses case in the car. I called the rental counter to recover my item. Shanna was super helpful offering to see if the attendants in the lot had started cleaning the car. She called me back with the case in hand and even offered to bring it to security! I'm an emerald member and a HUGE fan of National Rental; however this particular experience was less than what I'm accustomed to getting from National. This was not a pass the line experience by any means, so by the time I did make it to the counter, my paperwork was't ready. In the past I've been able to choose my own car, not this time. I was given a Dodge Journey, I would not have chosen that for myself. It had snowed so it was pretty cold outside and the parking lot is so far from the terminal and no shuttle. I had too many bags to make it on my own, and leaving them was not an option. I had to ask someone else for a ride because no one from National was available. I didn't complain to anyone, nor was I unpleasant. I just took it all in stride. C'est la vie. read more

The desk service, car selection and convenience of National at Amarillo is hard to beat and I recommend them highly for that reason. The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is that I am local and use National for business trips. My Job requires for me to travel every week. So National has been my first choice for years. So from my years of experience let me offer this.....they need to have more Ford Cars and trucks. They could spend just a little more time cleaning the cars. Most of all the Windshields need cleaning on the inside. But over all good experience. read more
