First time renting with Budget, and overall it was a mixed experience. First, this location is off-site from the airport (the other car rental agencies are in the airport). While it's technically just across the street, there are no signs inside the airport directing you there, and nothing during the reservation process clearly mentions that you'll need to take a shuttle. On the positive side, the staff was incredibly friendly, professional, and helpful. They made the pickup process smooth and were genuinely pleasant to work with, which I really appreciated. The car itself, however, reflected the "budget" name. It had a large crack in the windshield, wasn't the cleanest inside, had several areas where paint was missing, and there was a noticeable odor. While it got me from point A to point B without issue, the overall condition left something to be desired. read more

Car was damaged when I picked it up - major hail damage, longer than my palm size crack in the front window and the car had been side-swiped (white paint on a black car). I have never rented such a damaged car, but I had already signed and paid before I saw the car. I asked a rep about it - they said the damage was documented and pointed to the hand written codes on the windshield. That felt really sketchy, so I ended up calling the national customer service #, reported the damage and sent photos. Yes, the rep at this location was nice. Nice does not equal a car without major damage and me worrying while I'm driving. Will not rent from Budget again. read more

Don't think twice and rent at the airport. I rented a Kia Soul and got a lemon. We got 40 mile out of town, stopped to get a drink. I got out of the front passenger seat and my clothes were shaking wet all the way through to my underwear. I called immediately and ZERO concern. My clothes were destroyed and I had to ride in the back seat for the next 65 miles. I called two more times to request compensation and was told each time they'd call me back. NEVER received a call. In the end, got a $40.00 credit in a week rental. Was stuck with this horrible, dirty car for one week. read more

The people are nice but the operations are like the 1990s. Everyone has to stand in line at the counter to get a car. And get the printout and keys. When the shuttle arrives from the airport there can be 6-8 people but only 2 check in terminals. Takes forever. Most places now I just go get in the car and drive out. One of the worst customer service experiences I've never had. We called twice about a car, both times we were told there was a car, put on hold, then someone answered the phone and rudely said "we don't have a car" and hung up. So we walked from the airport to the rental place. Steven and another wonderful employee, that I did not get his name but was a gem as well, got both vehicles unstuck and helped us to be on our way to safety in the midst of the storm. Reserved standard size and was told a Nissan Versa and Hyundai Venue were considered Standard size. I was charged for standard and got tired of arguing that a Venue was too small, so I gave up and took the small Venue. Rude to elderly lady in front of me too. I felt so bad for her. I have been renting cars from BUDGET for 30+ years. Flew into Amarillo, had a free upgrade, they refused to honor it and placed me in a vehicle that would not accomodate our group. We were in the car for 1.5 hours, returned it and picked up a car that would accomodate the group at Avis. BUDGET charged us an entire day for 1.5 hours ($147.54). They advised the reason they did not honor the upgrade was they are privately owned and could not see the upgrade placed into the system by Southwest Airlines. . My recommendation is DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE. They are thieves, liars and cheats. Protect yourself. First time I ever rented a car in my life. Wish I could give a zero like the other 1 star posters. Mush mouth Joseph, who has zero confidence in his job, is going over the terms of the contract, which IS A LEGAL CONTRACT, and I had questions, so he had to stop and repeat things MANY TIMES because of his mush mouth. When it came time to tell me about the insurance I asked to have it explained, and he never stated that it was per day. Then when my contract came out $200 more than I anticipated I asked why, and he said because the insurance is per day, and I said, YOU NEVER SAID THAT, and he said, and I quote, "Yeah, I tried, but you kept asking so many questions." Can you imagine???? How dare I ask questions about a legal contract mush mouth was presenting. So then I called my insurance company and found out I was covered and canceled the insurance, so then he had to do the contract over, which he didn't like. I walked in in a great mood which got ruined by Mush Mouth Joe. Then while I was on the phone with the insurance company, which was painful clear to anyone with eyesight, the guy who brought the car kept interrupting me to talk to me about the car, when I wasn't even ready for the car. Then upon my return, I did not have time to fill up the gas so they charged me three times the cost of gas in Texas because I did not check the box on the contract to prepay the gas. Can't make this up. How can I pay for gas I don't know I'm going to need??? But of course Mush Mouth Joe never told me about that. Then lucky me, when I returned the car Mush Mouth Joe received the car. In his mush mouth way of speaking, he was like blah blah blah I would get back to the airport, which I ASSUMED a ride on the bus was included, and as I was getting my luggage out of the trunk, he said to me that he told me he would drive me in the car I just returned. But of course I had no idea because of his Mush Mouth way of speaking. He knew I was the woman from Thursday that was aggravated beyond comprehension by him, and he was all polite on the way to the airport but his presence made me sick because he has weird energy. Then he asked if I wanted to get my receipt of have it emailed. I said email. Then I had to call four days later because they never sent it and as I complained about Joe to this guy who answered the phone on Wednesday night about 10pm, he told me to F-off. Nice! Never again. As everyone else on here has stated, you reserve a car from them and they pull it out from underneither you. My flight wasnt delayed and he just keeps repeating himself that "your check in was at noon and we dont hold cars". I know they are lying because I put in my flight details at reservation. Rent a wreck is more like it. Actually the first car they gave us had been in a wreck a while back. The damage was even rusted! The second car (Ford Explorer) wasn't damaged visually but when you opened the doors they creaked/groaned. Driving it was less than ideal too-bucket of bolts that definitely needed servicing. Harvey the Unhinged Lunatic I wish I could give zero stars. I'm not sure when this company turned into a complete scam but I highly advise not renting a car from Budget. I reserved a midsize SUV from the Amarillo, TX location and had received a 30% discount on their website. I went to pick up the vehicle and find that they did not reserve it. They offered me a compact SUV for the same price. I explained that that vehicle is not large enough hence why I reserved a larger vehicle. They said they have a minivan available but it would be more than twice the cost. I asked if they would be applying the 30% discount. They told me they are a family business that carries the name and logo of Budget Rental Cars but they do not honor their prices or follow their policies. I told them that is just basic customer service we're talking about. I reserved a car, you failed to reserve the car and therefore the right thing to do would be to rent me the minivan for the same price. They said the price I was quoted was lower because of the discount from Budgets website and that they had no intention of honoring that price even if they had the midsize SUV because they were not required to. I asked for their name and they said it was Harvey. I asked to speak to a manager and they said his name was Harvey also and then proceeded to point at every employee saying "And he's Harvey, and that guy over there is Harvey, and that's Harvey" while laughing and telling me "Good luck getting anyone to do anything about it. We don't answer to anyone" My husband and I told them we will tell everyone about this experience. He then started screaming at me to leave and my husband told him not to yell at me. He then proceeded to come completely unhinged screaming like a crazy person for us to get out. This man was obviously mentally unstable and should not represent Budget Rental Cars. read more

This is about the "folksiest" rental car agency I've ever used. Friendly, kids running around the office, a dog to greet you, and a parrot. They even bent over backwards to help me find my cell phone that I'd misplaced. Not a large fleet (it is, after all, in Amarillo), but it was perfectly good for my needs, and my car was waiting when I arrived. Kinda hard to find the first time unless you take the shuttle bus. I rent cars about 15-20 times a year, and the Amarillo Airport Budget provides the best customer service I've received anywhere. I've rented cars from this location twice, and I was actually excited to return the second time. It's offsite but close, and the shuttle driver was parked and waiting both times I arrived. At the facility, one person took my bag and another opened the door and greeted me. Checkout was record-breaking fast. The attendants behind the counter were cheerful and friendly. My car was waiting outside the door with my bag inside. Amazing! When I left, I felt like I had just visited some friends. This place sucks! They expect you to pump 120% of the gas tank when return. Yup! All the way to the top and spill some on the floor is what they prefer. I returned my rental with full tank and was CHECKED/CONFIRMED by a staff. A week later I got a $8.01 charge on my credit card. I then called and tried to find out why. I spoke to Jimmy. He said it's because I didn't return with a full tank of gas to them. I asked, "what do you mean by not returning with a full tank, your staff checked everything before I left! " He said the "F" line on the gas indicator doesnt count and it has to be all the way to the top of the top of the gas tank. Would not recommend this place at all. I tried to rent a car to go to a wedding out of town October 18, 2019. I myself do not own a car so I do not have car insurance. This was also the first time I have ever rented a car since I am 25. My mom was there to help me and we were treated very rudely. First the only person who could rent the car to me was over half an hour late when my reservation was at 8 am. Then once we spoke to this gentleman and told him I didn't have car insurance rather than help at all we got attitude and he said "We rent cars we don't sell insurance" I understand that and luckily we left and rented a car from Hertz who helped figure out what we could do (ended up putting it in my mothers name and added me as a driver) and gave us an amazing discount. Worst service ever. I booked through Southwest Airlines only to be met with a rude, power hungry desk person. She told me since I lived locally I must present my proof of car insurance. Who carries that? She said it was their policy. She did not ask anyone else for it. I routinely rent with Budget so they have gotten my business by default. First the good: They are actually off airport, but when I arrive, I walk outside and they are always waiting for me. Now the bad: Their cars are old and not always in the best of shape. Yesterday, I was given a Kia with 60,000 miles on it and it had a back tire out of round that made noise the entire 200 miles I drove. I told the attendant that if I didn't receive a better car next time, I would be renting elsewhere. He said well they have to sell these cars before they buy new ones. ??? The next issue is whatever level of your rental, you probably won't get it. I reserved a premium car and got a KIA SUV. Don't be surprised if they have to figure out what to do when you get there because they may not even have any. read more

AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE! 1st- there are no directions as to where to go from the airport. We thought the service desk was in the airport but it wasn't. No signs or anything to direct you to the shuttle out front. The only good thing about my experience was the nice shuttle driver. 2nd- the woman at the front desk had a really bad attitude and condescending. 3rd- the car that was waiting for us looked like it had been through a tremendous hail storm and was pitted up from front to back with large chips in the paint (the picture shown doesn't show how bad it really was). I couldn't believe they were going to let us drive away in this! We went in to ask for another car and were met with the most disrespectful employee. I said "you would think that Budget wouldn't want their name associated with this car" and she replied "it's not my name, and who cares what the car looks like". WOW! Now, I would have left and gone elsewhere but I had been in flight for 8 hours and didn't want to deal with getting back on the shuttle (I already wasted 30 minutes in this awful place) 4th- the car we ended up getting was chipped and had cracks in the windshield. This is my favorite rental car location! Pick-up is offsite but, I have never had to wait for the shuttle and they dropped me off at the airport in my rental car so I didn't have to wait. They pulled up and started the car and loaded my bags. Picked up our car @ Amarillo Airport, the girl behind the counter was very pleasant & helpful. She even walked us out in the windy cold weather and showed us where the car was parked. When we got into the car, it was very dirty, trash in the cup holder, dirt on the floor, greasy finger prints on the arm rest & cigarette ashes & sunflower seeds scattered about. We returned to the counter & complained. The girl again very pleasant, apologized and sent someone out to check it. He picked the trash out of the cup holder and said "I'll file a report". I followed him back into the office and asked what would be done about the poor condition of the car? He just shrugged his shoulders. As it turns out-it was his job to clean the cars, which he obviously hadn't done. You can bet he didn't "file a report" either. There were no other full size cars available for us and we had an appointment to get to so couldn't wait for him to "clean" it again. Absolutely the worst customer service ever! Not only was the woman who 'helped' me rude but the car was an absolute wreck. Cracked windshield, huge dent in the driver door, old food wrappers still inside. I was quoted a price on the phone but when I got there they wouldn't honor that price and charged me an additional $25 on top of that. After returning the vehicle to another location I was charged $2,300 for a five day rental. I called the location and the manager said we weren't supposed to return elsewhere and she said her clerk saw someone other than me drive off in the car!!!
