We eventually had some other work done, and this other plumber came and pointed out all of these "issues" with the water heater. Completely scared us with visions of fire risk and heaters not working in the dead of winter, told us that this wasn't to code (even though the permit was signed off). Loni came out again. Explained everything in great detail, as to how it worked, why the other plumber was wrong. Didn't get mad that we wasted his time, just wanted to make sure that we were happy with our water heater. All in all, a fantastic experience.

However, often the truest test of a quality business is how they perform when things do not go well. In my case, I had to go four days without hot water because the unit I received was defective. The day after the install we found the tank had shut down, no hot water. After a reset and restart done over the phone with the installer assisting, the unit unfortunately failed again a short time later. The next day which was a Saturday, another technician came out to swap out the heat sensor which appeared to be the problem. While changing out the part, the tech noticed that insulation near the assembly had burned, and ash was present. He removed the bad insulation, vacuumed it out and restarted the unit. It made a horrible noise, and he spent a half an hour on the phone with the manufacturer tech support trying to diagnose the problem. The noise eventually went away and he finished the repair. Unfortunately the machine shut down again, after we got one lukewarm shower. I called on Sunday, and explained that I was no longer comfortable with the unit being in our house and I wanted a replacement, of a different maker. Without hesitation they agreed, and Monday morning, after acquiring a new model of a different make from their supplier, we got the replacement installed, at no additional cost. These problems are rare, and not the fault of the installer. However, I could not have asked for a more timely and considerate treatment as a valued customer of this business.

Plumber never showed up to perform the job. First the scheduling. Lady on the phone had no idea what things cost. Then, she schedules it with two hour window, this is ok I guess. I called at 4:00 pm, she schedules it between 5-7pm. That fine. Then, around 6:00 pm Evan shows up, but guess what, he is just the guy that's going to write up and make you sign the contract and said that the other guy is right behind me to do the work, maybe 7 to 7:30. I'm already frustrated, but ok, as long as the pipe is cleaned, I have a family that needs to use the bathrooms and what not. Evan of course leaves without leaving me with any contact info. Then shortly after, I get a text message that my appointment is now from 6-8 pm. Ok, I tried calling the office, some ai answering machine answers but no human ever called me back. It's 8:15 and no call and no plumber. Pretty shady business practices imho. Edited original one start review. Yesterday evening around 11:00 PM the plumber tech showed up and ran the snake down the pipe to open the flow. This was actually surprising cause I lost hope and was planning on going to HD to pick up a snake myself at 6:00 AM. Alexis was very friendly and professional. Quickly performed the work and promised to call in the morning to schedule a camera inspection to make sure the pipe was properly cleaned. Evan arrived this morning, performed camera inspection, all is good. Thank you guys, would have been nice that both of those things were done between 5-7 yesterday as was originally promised, but still the job is done. I'm bumping the rating from 1 to 4 stars.

Both Tankless and the one I eventually hired gave me an instant detailed written estimate that had details fairly clearly spelled out, and both sent at least one technician would could discuss the proposed work in English, the only language I'm really fluent in, so that gave them an edge. I chose the lower bid of the two.

We were replacing a gas water heater with a hybrid electric heat pump water heater. I had a very easy experience getting an on-site quote. I received 3 quotes for this job. 2 quotes, including this one, came in around $7100. I went with a third one at around $6700 (which included an additional mixing valve) and am very happy with my decision. Overall price was not a big part of my decision, but brand of water heater was. After doing some research online, the most recommended brands are AO Smith and Rheem (GE). Both higher quotes were for Navien, which has only been making heat pump water heaters for 1 year, but I was told that it is the most reliable brand. I did not understand how this claim could be made, given how short the duration of evaluation for this product. Even the worst appliances usually work for at least a year. So I requested a quote for AO Smith or Rheem, which I did not get. I'm not sure why my brand request was not honored, but it made me question whether I should go with a company that either has communication issues or maybe some type of deal with Navien that I was not informed about. Many water heater installers are preferred installers of certain brands, which means they can get better pricing, etc. I did not want to be a guinea pig for Navien.
