Burgers here are really what I come for. I just wish they had better fries! The other food is just so so. I haven't tried their other burgers, but they have salmon and turkey. a good variety. I stick with beef though. The price isn't that bad and the service has always been good! read more

The burgers are super sloppy here, falling out all over the table if you don't eat it directly from the wrapper. The service was a bit slower than I would have liked, and although we bought a pie that was delicious, they refused to give us forks to eat it with. I might go back to purchase a pie, but I'll look elsewhere for burgers next time I'm in Berkeley. read more

we were starving and stumbling our way from san pablo to our buddy's house somewhere north of campus, this is the first place we found once we crossed from hearst over to university. love the prices, not so much the hamburger, it was just way too big! i know this is not a complaint, but for me it is, because it was so big that the bun kept slipping away, i hate that! decent fries. we didn't try any of the pies though, bummer. so i must now come back. they also have these huge booths that are great for groups or kicking your feet up. tokens for the bathroom at the counter. read more

This was my first time at a Nation's Hamburgers location. This spot in Berkeley has been recently remodeled (in the last few years), so it is very clean and has a nice atmosphere. I got the chicken sandwich. It was quite big and unwieldy. Next time I would have to ask for no mayo as they put quite a bit on. The price was right though, the meal was quite affordable and the portions were huge. Fries were so so. Probably won't be coming back here a lot, but does the job if you're in the market for a filling burger. The also offer a veggie burger and the grilled cheese with everything piqued my interest. read more

This place is alright, but I'll say downright that I like In-N-Out better. The sauce on the burger (mayo) was a little too much. Plenty of seating, fast ordering, waiting took a while since there were quite a few people. I only ordered a cheeseburger since I wasn't so hungry but the burger was just average. The Cheesecake Factory has even bigger burgers. The parking lot gets full fast so be prepared to find street parking in the neighborhood, which is not really easy since there are a lot of red zones and "No Parking" signs. Don't leave your receipt on the counter when waiting to pick up your order, things will get lost for sure. read more

Came here a second time for a late night snack. First and foremost, the food is good. Now on to the bad. As everyone has already mentioned, this is where all the drunkies and high people come at night. I dodged it my first time, but I ran into it the 2nd time. I ordered my food, and they messed it up. Then when my food was ready, they treated me like a drunk person, when I was clearly sober and just waiting to pick up my food. They were rude. The burgers are good, but there are tons of great burger places in the area. The add on green peppers are perhaps the greatest thing about the place. The pies are okay, I've tried chocolate moose: 3 stars (because I like chocolate moose and I was craving chocolate), strawberry: cheesecake 2 stars, lemon pie: 1 star. The staff is super nice, which makes this place tolerable. There seems to be something wrong with the lighting of the place, it is really weird, I like dim, but it doesn't feel very clean. Also, the do it yourself sauce section has got to go, it doesn't seem very clean, but more importantly, it is missing tons of sauces (and empty ones). Lastly, considering their hours, I would say the price is fair. I would go again, but not anytime soon. Maybe in a year? Or maybe the next time everywhere else is closed. read more

I live super close to this joint. They have an all day breakfast menu that is like the right thing to get when your hangover. Lol they have pretty good other burger items. I order a bacon cheese burger which was really good but make sure you ask to make it easy on the mayo they put on. They do seem to put a lot of mayo on the burgers but after trying it a few times I start to master the right way to order a burger lol. read more

I tried the cherry cheesecake with my friend. It was actually my first time at Nation's and so I had high expectations (heard a lot of great things). The cheesecake was pretty good and affordable, however I probably wont come back here often just because it is a bit out of the way for me. Not a big hamburger fan, but Nation's is great for a dirt-cheap breakfast and the pies are great diner fare. The chocolate cream pie is so rich and sweet that I can never finish even half of my slice. Oof. read more

This is a nicer place after their remodeling. You can't fault a place for sticking to a strategy of providing large portions of greasy fatty american food. Their menu is decent, not as expansive as Mels but then it is cheaper as well. Their pies are what keep them afloat, because the hot food is decent but combining fatty pies just seals the deal sometimes. read more

i dont know why, but the burgers are prettttty good. they're moist and juicy and you can request grilled onions. yumm. it is a bit greasy though so eat sparingly. their breakfast are kinda small. i recommend the linguica ( i have no idea what that is) over the bacon. don't forget to dab thoroughly with napkins, its not a girly thing to do! i don't really like their pies...or fries...but this is definitely great for late night cravings. read more

A somewhat classy burger joint - I would say that it is on par with In & Out in terms of food taste & quality, but a tiny bit nicer because of the decor and atmosphere (seems like an older demographic than the typical In & Out). They make a great assortment of pies and cheesecakes too! read more

I haven't tried their hamburgers (I know, ironic) but I've tried their Banana Cream Pie - and it was really good. I went their with friends under the highest recommendation of a friend, but I really had doubts - I mean, how good can a cream pie be? This one was really fresh, I could actually smell the bananas, a lot of banana pieces were in it, and it was soft as..... as anything. But the next time I took it to-go, and somehow it didn't taste as good. Maybe you should have it there, while it's cold and fresh? I'm planning to go there and have it there and hopefully I'll be able to find out. read more

My bf made a run here after we checked into our nearby hotel room. Unfortunately, there was a huge ruckus caused by a customer that was refusing to shut up until they gave him more fries. Then they messed up our order after waiting forever cause aforementioned crazy dude was causing the whole french fry fiasco. One of the best pieces of banana cream pie I have ever had. Not too sweet, great crust, and the whipped cream was a great balance.

So glad that one of these exist right up the street from where I'm staying. The pies here are pretty tasty! The banana cream pie is one of my favorites! Each slice is large enough to share with another person. Ofcoursee i finished mine all on my own.. I mean how can i resist!? i also came here on a different occasion and got their breakfast platter. The jr. Breakfast comes with one egg any way you like it with a side of hash browns, 1 choice of bacon, ham, or sausage OR you can choose to get half a hamburger instead. Now, I know it's "Nation's Giant Hamburgers" but don't come here for the the burgers. Come here for the breakfast, the grilled cheese, and the pie. Full-fledged breakfast with eggs, pancakes, and bacon(more than i could eat) for less than $6. If you go in the evening, try the loaded grilled cheese. It's fantastic with grilled onions and bacon. i've had many late night cheeseburgers courtesy of nation's. the best cheeseburger you'll have? no way. a good place to fulfill your craving and not break bank? definitely. their fries are usually terrible so i don't get them very often. when you ask for onion on your burger, they put one HUGE piece. i'm talking 8 or 9 rings. no one needs that much onion. i always wipe the miracle whip off of the bottom of my burger. they put way too much. but alas, i love burgers and breakfast food so nation's wins this round. read more

I know that this place has great (good?) pies but this review is for their cheeseburger only. It just wasn't very good. I think it cost around $5 and it was this sad little burger that was too salty and lacked flavor. If you're closer to campus, I'd opt for Bongo burger. Also, the restaurant seemed a little dated and a little dirty. On a bright note, parking was really easy to find. read more

When I get to berkeley, I almost always hit up nations, mainly for their lemon cream pie. It really can't be beat. It is smooth, tangy and delcious. Their burgers and fries are good too, but honestly I come for the pies. This location is clean, with a nice layout. Food is always fresh. Cheap, good food, what's not to like? The hamburgers are my fave, fresh produce, juicy patty, and toasted bun, yum! Chili hot dog is a okay, chili was good, but where was the hot dog? Chili cheese fries are a great addition to your hamburger. The strawberry shake is delicious, fresh strawberry chunks and smooth and rich! They also serve breakfast, pancakes, eggs, and sausage. I had breakfast, so I haven't tried the burgers yet. That said, the breakfast is about what you'd expect. Decent, diner-ish food. The hashbrowns weren't the best and little undercooked for my taste, but the eggs, ham, and toast were good enough. Pretty good value for money, too. read more

I must say...I didn't know what to expect... I've heard so much about nations and I finally tried it and the verdict....GREAT!! Still not the down home burgers I find in LA...but the taste was good!! Considering I don't eat much...the burger is an all day meal for me which I don't mind!! Now when in in Oakland and want a great burger...I know where to go!! I love Nation and their pie. I also love their customer service. However, there is a change with the food. The quality of the food just doesn't appear "the same" like it used to. I feel like the quality of the food, i'm referring to the breakfast food, is similar to those of Denny's. I personally, didn't go to Nations for their Burgers or anything else but just their breakfast and their pies. The only reason they get 2 stars is because of there pies which is hard to mess up. The manager is a complete joke and doesn't know anything about running a business. I like this place but I may be biased since they had one where I grew up. I love the simple menu; solid burgers and fries, grilled cheese, pies and shakes. Reasonably priced breakfast and the "giant" breakfast really is giant. Check another one out in Moraga, Orinda, Concord and others. read more
