A few days ago I went here to get my eyes examined and bought some glasses. I don't feel the exam was accurate and the glasses came back totally wrong. Worse than my old glasses. When I took them back they told there was re-stocking charge and no refund on the exam either. So I lost $90 total. While I waited on the lady that would take care of me, another lady behind the desk just sat there. She could easily refunded my money and I would be gone. Instead I waited nearly 30 minutes to be taken care of. If you choose to go here, ask for ALL the possible charges and what you can do if the things are not just right with the exam and glasses. I was not upset for the original cost, but I don't like to be be cheated for bad glasses and exams. I own a business and I'd be out of business if I treated my customers this way. I was skeptical to go here based on the previous yelp reviews but wanted to go and see it myself. I went to get an eye exam this morning and from check in, to exam, and trying to find the perfect frame it was a smooth visit. The staff is very polite, the doctor was very friendly. Everyone should know their insurance before going in. If you have crappy insurance you can't blame the business. TERRIBLE. I am not the customer however my s/o has had problems the entire time. She arrived with an appointment set for 2:30 pm and ended up waiting for 3+ hours before seeing the doctor. After finally seeing her, she wasn't asked by any staff to pay a copay so they never ordered her glasses. They did not call the next day to say they couldn't order the glasses without a copay. They did not call to say the glasses had arrived. We have had to babysit them the entire time. After all this aka: nearly 3 weeks for the glasses. Someone had ordered them wrong and there is so much glare she cannot see. It is not the doctors fault so it is unfortunate she has such an incompetent staff. I went to Nationwide Vision after going to Walmart, and Eclipse Eyewear. The price was not any better than the others, but did find a frame I liked. The lady (Bonnie) who assisted me was very thorough and she truly enjoys helping her customers. I did not feel rushed and she was very honest. ABSOLUTELY the worst place!! Took my kids there for new glasses and from the second I walked into the store I did not have a good vibe. We pick up our glasses and my daughter tried them on, she immediately said that they were blurry. The lady at the counter said just wear them she will get used to them. She tried them for a couple of days and was getting headaches. I told her not to wear them anymore. We made another appointment for her and they had the balls to say that the prescription was correct!! We ended up at Costco and the dr their said ABSOLUTELY these are way to string for her. This place is horrible. I asked for a quick and easy repair job on my glasses. The old lady working the front desk said she wouldn't do it, but I could buy a new 700 dollar pair of glasses. The old lady was rude and didn't want to give me the time of day. Do yourself a favor and go to eyeglass world in Phoenix. They immediately greeted me and fixed my glasses for free. I work in the medical field so I know how stressful it can be. I usually give front office staff the benefit of a doubt. Dr. Koop did a great job but the front office staff does reflect negatively on her. Before I made the first appointment, I called my insurance to verify that this location was a contracted provider for the exam and contacts. I called to set up an appointment, gave them all my information and verified that my insurance was accepted. The morning of my appointment, I was not acknowledged for 10 minutes while Bonnie talked about a customer and how she told them they had to pay before she would order their glasses and if they couldn't afford the glasses, they needed to go somewhere else. Then, Bonnie acknowledged me but not very nicely. At the time of check in there was no indication that anything was wrong with my insurance. After my eye exam, Bonnie decided to acknowledge me again as though I were a nuisance. I sat down with Bonnie to order contacts. She got my file and told me I didn't have insurance and would need to pay out of pocket. I called my insurance company and was told I have a $10.00 exam co-pay and up to $130.00 towards contacts. When I attempted to explain this to Bonnie, but she repeatedly told me I was wrong. She told me they called me the day before to tell me there was an issue. I checked my phone and there was no call from that office at all. Bonnie became angry and said, "I don't know what to tell you, we called". I requested she re-check my insurance. AT THAT TIME SHE THREATENED TO WRITE IN MY CHART THAT I WAS RUDE, UNREASONABLE AND DIFFICULT TO DEAL WITH. I told her that would be illegal to put in my medical record her opinion of the situation. She got super angry and told me she couldn't help me. I paid for the exam out of pocket and asked her to have Dr. Koop release my script so I could go somewhere else. She said Dr. Koop would not release the script because she gave me a sample of a different brand. I then requested that Bonnie have Dr. Koop change the script to what I have used for 10 years. Bonnie flat out refused, so I left without ordering contacts and without my script. A few weeks later I needed my contacts, so I called my insurance company to verify that my insurance should have been accepted and was assured I only owed the $10.00 copay. I called the Anthem location and was told I should not have paid out of pocket and it was their mistake and I would receive a complete refund. The next morning I went back in to order. The first person I saw was Bonnie and she was ranting and raving because staff had called out. Bonnie immediately told me I didn't have insurance and needed to pay up front. I walked her through my conversation with my insurance company and her office the day before. Bonnie said she couldn't order my contacts because she needed correct my file. She said she would get me a sample pack. She came back with the completely wrong contact in the wrong strength. I told her this is not what I wear. She went back to get a sample of the proper brand of contacts, but it was a multifocal. This is where the only nice lady comes into play, she walked over and told Bonnie that they had just talked about my situation the day before. The nice lady ran my insurance and showed Bonnie that I do have insurance and it also pays for contacts. Bonnie still refused to order because she needed to correct my file first. The nice lady went to her computer and attempted to order the contacts, but Bonnie became very rude to her and told her not to order the contacts and followed that up with "I'm not the boss...but". Again, I was so uncomfortable I just left. Later that day, I got a call from Dr. Koop requesting that I call to call back at a certain time so she could talk to me. When I called Dr. Koop I was unable to speak with her directly because they refused to send my call back stating "she only wants to know which contacts you want". I called back the next morning because I really felt uncomfortable with the entire situation and found out the wrong contact order had been entered but would be corrected. As for my refund, it amounted to very little since I was charged for the second visit since I had a peripheral vision exam that they had messed up the first time and I was charged $40.00 for a contact fitting. Today I finally got my contacts and they are correct. However, when I went into the store the staff was discussing another patient by name and I could hear the entire conversation which blew their HIPPA compliance completely out of the water. After reading the other reviews this seems to be common for this location. I will never ever go back there and will warn everyone to stay away. I am going to file a HIPPA complaint as well as the threat to enter personal opinion into my medical chart. This is not acceptable and they shouldn't be allowed to get away with it. read more

This place is the absolute worst customer service. Nothing but issues with front staff - would refused to bill a secondary insurance and a year later still trying to get reimbursed for out of pocket expenses that are covered by insurance because I cannot get the correct information from their office that insurance requires. This is the worst retail experience I've ever had in my life! Stay far far away from this place they don't care about their customers and they especially don't care about kids. My son was so excited to get his first pair of glasses they didn't even have the courtesy to sit down and adjust them on his face or make sure they felt right or even tell them how to care for them as you'd expect somebody to do when you pay over $400 for a pair of glasses. Any morning that he might feel like he's walking downhill or be a little disoriented nor did they warn us the parents! After walking outside I realize I didn't have any lens cleaning cloth with his new glasses so I returned into the store and ask Bonnie for some lens cleaners..... she tells me they only come when you get the anti-reflective coating. I said they do have the anti-reflective coating and I paid a bunch of money for it so can I please have some cleaners. She responds oh you paid a bunch of money sarcastically well let me get you a bunch of cleaners handed me two sets of lens cleaning costs and sent me on my way! I would rather drive to New Mexico and back then ever step foot in that store again! read more

They asked if I wanted anti reflective coating (trying to up sell me) and I informed them if it was not covered under my insurance plan, I did not want it. She (Bonnie) assured me it was and submitted it. A month later I get a bill from Nationwide for the anti reflective coating stating it was not covered under my insurance. When we arrived, they told us my appointment was at 11 and we didn't get in until 3. We got in and then had to wait even longer to get fitted for the glasses. Both my spouse and I use Nationwide, as well as my 8 year-old. Between all of us, we've seen every Optometrist at this location, who've all been courteous and caring. I have terrible allergies and for YEARS I've struggled with wearing contact lenses. This was the first eye doctor office that listened to my issues, did a thorough exam, and fit me for several different contacts until we found a brand that worked for me. I have ordered glasses in the past and I personally haven't noticed a difference in the time it took to receive them versus other Optometrists. The biggest concern for me though, is my eye health/allergies and getting my prescription correct and hence, 5 stars from me. read more

Extremely pleased with the efficiency of the eye exam. I have been working for a major retailer for 23 years and have frequented their optical department for almost every one of those years. I could not believe the difference in the quality of the eye exam! The exam at the major dept store retailer ( 3 initials) is very antiquated and slow. The one at nationwide was done initially by an optical technician who took care of the initial part of the exam, and then finished Very quickly by the extremely professional , humorous and kind optometrist. My total for my glasses was more than half what the optical dept at my work charged me with my insurance. I will update after I receive my progressive bifocals! I'm excited! read more

Dr Koop was fantastic, very professional. The lady who helped with the selection of the glasses was very good. Then the lens fell out of the glass, with in 4 weeks. The manager said I needed to drive 25 miles to a repair place. I wanted them sent back for repair. She told me they were out of warranty and unless I had extended warranty she would not send them back. Some one else checked an I had extended Warranty. This Nationwide Vision has the best eye doctor ever!! I was having issues seeing and come to find out it was my prescription of my glasses i had paid a fortune for less than a year ago was the issue. She helped me to see again! Karen then helped me pick out my glasses and listened when i told her that my glasses sat on my cheeks and always fogged up and i couldn't keep them clean. she recommended a smaller frame and a frame with nose pads. After talking about how my previous glasses didn't work for reading or computer, she recommend i get 2 pair. 1 pair with distance/reading,,, 2 pair with distance computer. They are perfect!! she did the bifocal line placement perfect and I love them. On the computer glasses she recommended i have the line higher so i could use the computer with out craning my neck up/down. when i do need my distance to walk or attend a meeting with a presentation i just move them down on my nose a fraction and they are perfect! My husband also got new glasses and he is just as happy and said her bifocal placement was spot on. The lady ophthalmologist (the name has escaped me) is phenomenal. Brought my 3 year old and 2 month old and she was so understanding and helpful. She even followed up on a vision concern I had for my two month old although I was there for my eye exam. I had to breastfeed my baby at a point in the appointment in which she was very comfortable and understanding about (AMAZING!!) They always give me samples if I run out of contacts which is a lifesaver. The glasses part moved pretty quick - I had picked out my glasses while I was waiting for my eye exam . 100% recycled frames which not all vision places offer and after my exam she processed my order very quickly because she knew I had kids and couldn't hang around. The contacts came in a week and my fairly high prescription eye glasses came in less then 2 weeks. Definitely a family friendly eye center . read more

I took my 9 year old in for her annual eye exam on June 13, 2020. COVID-19 precautions were in place and mostly being adhered to. We got an appointment scheduled by phone, and we were told we would be required to wear face coverings in the business. I appreciate this, as I am unwilling to expose myself and my child to unnecessary risk of infection. Once we arrived, only one other patient was in the store. He was a young man who seemed to think the purpose of his mask was to cover his chin. All except one member of the staff were wearing masks. There was an older woman employee who had a disposable mask hanging from her ear, but she never put it on correctly the whole time we were there. She smelled of cigarette smoke as well. The optometrist, Dr. Koop, was excellent and thorough as usual. Everything she checked for/tested was fully explained to me and we came up with a good plan for follow up. We did not need to purchase eyeglasses, so I won't address that part of their service, but the exam was done well and I would recommend this place for a routine eye exam for a school age child. read more

I went there got an eye examine the price on there exams or ok 59.00 but customer service is very rude the lady name is bonnie she very very rude and never on time they told me 7 to 10 business days i waited 11 to 12 days and still no glasses so i called to just check on the status of my glasses she answers the phone saying did we give u a call u yet about your glasses in a rude way not hey did u received a call from us yet then she puts me on hold and hang up on me twice i had to called 3 times before then she says if we didnt call u yet yours glasses is not here i said im just calling to see the status because you told me 7 to 10 business days and somebody there told me to called and check on the glasses because the other lady had checked and said it was shipped and now her bonnie said it didnt shipped yet like how come your other co worker say one thing and you telling me another real bad bad place to go get glasses if yall want a deal on exam and wants to deal with very rude customer service thats the place to go but good luck but me i would not recommend anybody to go there .... read more

Not a first time patient here. I've been here for the last 3 years. Last time I was in I was given a manufacturer's coupon for contacts and while looking it over noticed it expired. Was reassured it would still work... it didn't and when I called I was given another code to try, it also expired after I tried to use it. Long story short paid for a year of contacts and didn't get any sort of deal for it. More up to date. Brought my two boys in for an exam at 8:30 am on a Saturday. Showed up at 8:20 to fill out paperwork, finished by 8:30 not seen by technician until 9, then had to wait for another 10 minutes while she entered data on my second child before he could be seen by the technician... not sure what they were doing for the first 30 min (oh we were the ONLY ones in the entire store BTW). Then waited another 10 min for the Dr. (who was sitting back in his room) to come out and get us. Dr. Was friendly and knowledgeable but staff and wait time was less then ideal. Since we had so much pre-exam time, glasses were already chosen. Sat down to work out the details and was told insurance only covered a small portion, no anti glare and not even the good lenses. After insurance we were to pay $154 out of pocket and around $160 for the other kiddo at 10:15 ( almost 2 hours after arriving) we left empty handed. Went to another eye glass store a few days later and to my surprise we found frames and using the same insurance walked out without paying a dime! It included the frame, top of the line lenses, anti-glare and transitions (all of which Nationwide Lady said was not covered) Not sure what type of insurance scam Nationwide in anthem is trying to run but I will never be going back! We have been going here for my daughters glasses and contacts for about 4 years. I am a Police Officer and our insurance is a little better than the standard policies. When I informed Karen at Nationwide Vision that my daughters contacts are covered in full for an entire year, as well as a free contact lens exam, she said I was wrong, and that she verified everything with Loretta in their corporate office. I even showed her the insurance coverage and the documentation that Nationwide is a member of the Cigna Vision Network. She said that she has to answer to Loretta and there is nothing she could do. I called the Nationwide corporate office and was bounced around from person to person until I was connected to Lorettas voice mail. I never received a call back from Loretta, so I contacted Cigna Vision. A few days later, Amy called me back from Nationwide and said the contacts would be covered, but she would have to look into refunding us the $75 for the exam. My wife went into the store for the refund and dealt with Karen again, who said that we were definitely not eligible for a refund. She is very good at pretending she knows what she is talking about even though she has no clue. We are swallowing the $75 exam fee so we never have to deal with them again. I am also notifying Cigna Vision that their contracted suppliers do not honor their contracts. Stay away at your own peril! read more

The optometrist is nice, but the staff there are horrible! They are not professional, nor are they customer oriented. When I first started going there 8 or so years ago, it was a great business. Now it is terrible and I would never recommend getting contacts or glasses there. I was ridiculed by both of the women who were working one evening I went in to order glasses. They were very evidently put out by me because my insurance was changing the next day an I needed to order the glasses. Needless to say, after several negative comments directed at me, I decided against ordering my glasses from the Anthem Nationwide vision store. Then I tried to get a refund for contact lenses (that I never picked up from the store), and that was like pulling teeth. To top it off, today, when I was trying to get the refund put in my husbands card ( we share the account & I was told it would be no problem for him to go in and take care of it), the woman - Mary - I believe, HUNG up on me!! If you go there, my advice is, go in the morning, they are much nicer and more professional than the afternoon team.
