A very good place to get organic food. It doesn't have sky high prices on most items. Natural Frontier Market is better than going to a big chain grocery store. More friendly service by employees who know the products. They pack in lots of interesting things. How much they have is surprising because it's not at all big. It fits in all kinds of interesting natural and organic food. There's lots of vegan friendly items like non dairy ice cream and they have very fresh produce. It doesn't take long to look through because the place is small and you can go around in about a minute. They have a lot of interesting things though. Prices aren't so bad either. There's some things which I come just here to buy because of the good prices. Arctic Zero non dairy ice cream is about $5 for a pint, which is comparable to premium ice cream. There's some brands in other stores that are a lot more. It helps that the staff is very knowledgeable. Most times other places have staff that don't know much about the products. The folks in this store are friendly, and unlike other such stores in Queens -- which I won't name here -- they make sure you get whatever discounts you have earned. Great overall selection of natural food type items, esp considering how small this place is. That said, I often wonder about the accuracy of my receipt, as nothing on the receipt it itemized. Also, there've been a few times where I bought some produce in a container (i.e., mushrooms, or raspberries) and where it's hard to really tell the condition of the contents. And then I arrive home, only to find much of it is spoiled. If I recall, they have a 'no refunds' policy, and I also know that the few times I tried to provide a coupon, I was told they 'don't accept them'. read more

I am getting lazy travelling to Manhattan to find certain things like Olive Oil specifically Lucini. I've been to this shop before but mostly buying natural soaps but I was happy to find a different Lucini oil (fruity and versatile) than the one I usually bought. Depending on your research, I find Lucini to have a lighter, less acidic taste than other olive oils. The store also carries a nice array of baking ingredients and teas but unfortunately, they don't carry Cardamon tea. read more

I've been going here since before it was NFM and when they came and took it has improved tremendously. I probably go here 7x a week. I've compared their prices to other natural food spots and it's competitive. Best thing is they have Bio-K. Also, I highly recommend their juice bar. Staff is always friendly. This is my favorite grocery store in Astoria. I live significantly further south, but I will happily make the trip up to Ditmars to go here. First of all... they're much cheaper than other natural/organic competitors in the area. I'm looking at you, Greenbay, with your $10 vegan cashew queso... I found the same queso at Natural Frontier for $6. This is very consistent throughout all of their products. I only buy vegan groceries, which can tend to cost me an arm and a leg other places (ahem, vegan cashew queso). I've really noticed a significant amount of savings whenever I shop here! Honestly, this place is just great. It's a tiny store but they somehow manage to have a great selection and have all of my favorite brands. They have a cute juice bar in the front as well! read more

Super friendly cashiers. Knowledgeable gentleman there at night and weekends that is helpful with selecting vitamins and immune support items. Veggies are fresh. Good selection of spices, sauces and snacks. Fresh, natural bread selection. I wish they would fix the alkaline water dispenser. I miss filling up a 5 gallon for only $3. I looooove Natural Frontier Market. Their prices are appreciably lower than its (sort of) natural food market neighbor, Greenbay, which I love going to whenever I'm in that part of Astoria. Every weekend I am in the neighborhood, I stop by to pick up some snacks (and last minute Aubrey Botanicals face wipes, thank you very much) and beverages. I noticed a large filtration system in the back earlier today for alkaline water by the gallon. Will definitely look into this the next time I'm here! read more

I used to live very close to this store and I miss it. I used to sit on the benches outside to enjoy the delicious snacks I just bought. It has one of the best selection of organic foods I have seen, and at a reasonable price. They carry Maple Hill milk and Greek yogurt, organic sprouted almonds, chocolate tahini, dried strawberries, and a lot if other delicious stuff. read more

Natural Frontier Market was great for my attempt to go sugar free, besides tons of gluten-free, soy-free, dairy-free products this place has some pasta and sugar alternative options I can't find anywhere else- not even Whole Foods. Sugar alternatives s.a. Xylotil (not cheap around $8.09 for 1 lb) and Yacon Syrup (even pricer ~$29 for 8.5 oz. bottle). This last one I can only find online and I guess after Dr. Oz gave it his stamp of approval, it's practically the same price with shipping. They don't stock brown rice syrup, but they do have stevia, both in powdered and liquid form- as well as all the conventional sweeteners: agave, maple syrup, honey, molasses, coconut sugar & refined cane sugar. They don't always stock the same pastas, but they do have types I haven't found anywhere else s.a. 100% buckwheat pasta, chickpea pasta, einkorn pasta, black bean pasta (rubbery in my opinion), kamut pasta, and spelt pasta (these last 2 are my preferred). They also stock the more widely available green-boxed Ancient Harvest and 100% whole wheat Bionaturea, as well as America's Test Kitchen's best gluten-free picks: Jovial pasta, Ludenberg rice, and Udi bread (in the freezer section). Some of the neighborhood stores stock the same products, but some are slightly cheaper here: $3.49 for a 8oz jar of Better Than Chicken Broth, $3.79 for a 5 oz. can of Wild Planet Skipjack Tuna, $5.19 for 7.8 oz. of sliced Diaya cheese. They don't stock vegan shortening, Smart Sausage Italian Sausage or Arrowmill Vital Wheat Gluten, but they have a wide assortment of Bob's Red Mill and even bins in the back where you can get a pound of white quiona for $5.19. They've got a wide selection of grains: Amaranth, quinoa, kamut, oat bran, wheat bran, buckwheat, barley, bulgar, and multi-colored rice (purple, black, red). On top of food related items, Natural Frontier stocks all-natural beauty products (Jason, Nature's Gate), cleaning supplies, baby food and toiletries, pet food, essential oils, incense, and vitamin supplements. There are a large assortment of products I purchase here because I cannot find them in nearby stores: Health-Ade Gingerade Kombucha, Hail Merry (Paleo, Gluten-free) Miracle Tarts, Julian Bakery Coconut Wraps (pricy! 7 for ~$11, but they taste good, they're paleo-friendly and gluten-free), LIC-local Sweet and Sara vegan marshmallows (so much better than Campfire!), Vermont Bread Spelt English Muffins, Arrowhead puffed Millet, Arrowhead puffed Kamut, Old Wessex brand oat bran, and Navitas acai powder (OMG: ~$20 for 4 oz.), just to name a few. Another thing going for Natural Frontier is that they're pretty heavily trafficked for such a tight spot, so items bought here (s.a. Suzie's thin rice cakes and Edward & Son's brown rice snaps) tend to be fresher than in other corner stores in the neighborhood. They stock organic produce and when they're in season, organic cherries. They even sell organic meats in a small part of the back refrigerated section: buffalo, turkey, beef and chicken. They've also got some dairy-free milks I haven't seen elsewhere, s.a. hemp, oat and cashew. They also sell conventional organic cows milk, goat milk, almond milk, soy milk, and coconut milk. The sales people do their job. I've seen them converse with some of the familiars, but with me they haven't been overly-friendly or rude. I tried their juices once. I have yet to find a juice store that compares to Green Pirate Juice. You can get a spot card here for free and collect points everytime you purchase more than $10 worth of stuff. When you've collected enough they ask, "you have 10 spots [equivalent to $10] do you want to use it?" Sweet. read more

SERIOUSLY the best market in the neighborhood. Almost everything I purchase regularly from Whole Foods, Key Foods, and other organic or health markets was at least 2 dollars less. All of the produce is not only fresh, but reasonably priced, and of the pre packaged greens they sold Earthbound Farms Organic almost exclusively, one of my favorite brands. This place is great, especially if you're in the performing arts and your physical condition is a full time job! Brad's Organic Pasta Sauce was 3.29 on sale for some unknown reason, already marked down from 4.29 which is a dollar or two less than I have purchased it from other places before. I also have a severe tree nut allergy, which limits some of the brands I can consume. They had everything a picky eater like me could want and more! The only brands missing from my usual selections were "Food Should Taste Good"'s Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips, and the Van's Gluten Free Power Grain Toaster Waffles. That being said, they had other selections from those brands, which means if you like them, go here. Friendly staff, cozy feeling. And for around 48 dollars, I got almost all of my refill items (produce, snack foods, and bulk dinner items for time saving). Only thing needed to purchase is ground turkey for my pastas, my Segafredo coffee and my weekly 10 dollar expense of 3 buck chuck at TJ's. I love it here! For the two years that I lived in Astoria I almost exclusively shopped here. The prices for organic/natural products are incredibly cheap compared to most places and 100% organic juices are just around $6 each! If you buy juices around you know that's a steal! Even non-organic juices go for that price! I'm a big juicer and at a certain point I realized that it was cheaper to buy it from them then juice myself! They have the best selection of organic fruit and veggies and their promotions are fantastic. The staff is super friendly! I still drive over from NJ every other week or so to shop here! Amazing health store. They have mostly everything you could want despite the store not being very large. A lot of small health food stores don't have anything for people eating paleo and are solely geared towards vegetarians. This store is different and has a good selection of organic chicken, meat, etc, sometimes at a good sale price. And of course they also have a huge selection of normal "healthy" fare for vegans/vegetarians. It's only a 1 or 2 minute walk from the Ditmar's subway, so it's convenient as well. read more

I have been shopping here since they opened. I mainly bought the Halo cat food here, and when I was in would purchase other groceries. However, over the past few months, they have regularly had very little or none of the cat food I buy. I asked them repeatedly to order more. I have an old cat, who only eats this certain food, and needs to eat enough to stay healthy. Last week, the store had none for several days, and I had to buy a substitute, which she has not been eating very much of. I was worried about her health, so I asked one of the guys in there to order more. I stopped in 3-4 times over the course of the week. I repeatedly asked to speak to the manager, and was declined. I was told the food was on order, that another customer came and bought all of it when it came in, that it was the company's fault. They kept deflecting my request to order more. This morning, because I had been told they would have it by Friday, I came in to buy it and the guy told me that it had been in and sold out. This is after I had been in every other day all week. All they had to do was order more food the first time I asked. Instead, they ignored me and lied to me. Repeatedly lied to me. Terrible customer service. I used to shop at Key food but this grocery shop has really helped me in changing my lifestyle, and complimented it immensely! Everything here is organic, produce is fresh. Love the bins in the rear of the store, oats, nuts, dates...perfect! Only thing missing is a decent seafood/poultry section, but it is a tiny shop, so I get it! This is my new local favorite! This grocer has everything you are looking for on a regular basis. It's within walking distance from my house, and it has so much of a larger and fresher selection than the store that previous occupied this location. Everything in the store that can be purchased organic, is organic. Plus, they have a really good selection of organic foods. The produce selection leave something to be desired, but it's overall great! They still have a juice bar... haven't tried it, but I will. The greatest natural food store around for vegans and other healthy folks! Has plenty of products you would get at whole foods but without the trek or busy lines. They have a bunch of vegan foods in all different brands. Seriously, I love having options in the very specific things I'm looking for. Also they have a great selection of sweets you won't feel guilty about! They accept all major credit cards. I used to do most of my shopping at Trader Joe's and would stop into Natural Frontier Market (NFM) to pick up a couple of things once in a while, as I'd pass it on my way home from the subway or from the gym. But in recent months, I started transitioning more and more of my shopping to NFM (to the point where it's now +80%) because 1) the produce is fresh and organic, 2) the loyalty program is very good, 3) they have a great buyer who selects terrific products for their relatively small selection (compared to a supermarket, but I don't need more of selection when it's right), 4) I really like the owners and staff, 5) their prices are competitive, and 6) I want to support a local, independent business as opposed to the enormous chains that have taken over America. I just like everything about it, and the more I shop there the happier I am in all respects. They've got some great products, and my shopping has been upgraded over Trader Joe's for sure. read more

I love this store. The staff is great, they have a wide selection of items, and their prices are surprisingly reasonable. Some of their organic food is comparable even to Trader Joes organic prices, which really impressed me. (And yes, some of it is laughably expensive, but that's the case at any specialty market.) I also really appreciate the fact that they clearly make an effort to support local businesses and food suppliers, and I try to purchase local whenever I can. People need to watch the guys while they juice. Does not use fresh organic fruit for juices. Tried to pass off Tropicana orange juice and canned coconut water as "100% fresh squeezed organic juice". Charged a dollar extra for the coconut juice then when I went back to get a new juice with actual fresh juices, they wanted to argue that the server should still charge another dollar for the coconut juice juice again... They should change their juices sign to fake plastic chemically enhanced pasteurized with added sugar. The fact they had the Tropicana bottle and canned juice behind the counter is really shady. read more
