I made reservations earlier this month to have my dog boarded 5/15 - 5/22. I didn't realize at the time that the 22nd was Memorial Day, and that they would be closed for pick up and drop offs, and nobody at the kennel thought to inform me of this until a few days before we were supposed to pick him up. We planned on picking up our dog, Clyde, on the 22nd before noon so we would not be charged an additional day. When the staff called to notify me that he would need to be picked up the day before or after, I said before would not work as we were not cutting our get-away short, and I would also not be paying for an extra day because they failed to inform me that they would be "closed." It was agreed upon on the phone that I would be able to pick him up on the 30th and not be charged extra due to their lack of communication. So today my husband and I went to pick up Clyde. Sharon, who I believe is the owner, tried to charge us for the extra day. We reminded her of the agreement we made over the phone, and she had an IMMEDIATE change of attitude. She very foully said "well this is a business and someone was still here working and taking care of your dog," and again I reminded her of what we agreed on over the phone. She was extremely rude and said "well I'm not going to argue with you about it," and quickly deducted $25 from our bill (should have been $28 for XL kennel) while slamming her hands on the keyboard and moving rather aggressively. I was completely dumbfounded, as this is no way to run a business or retain customers. I asked her what her problem was and told her that the attitude was not necessary, especially since my husband and I are polite people who five minutes prior were having a decent conversation with her.
Moving on, once we got home I noticed my dogs nose was very pink with dried blood and what looked like teeth marks. Not once did I receive a call, email, text, in-person notification, or ANYTHING about his injury. Granted it's minor, but any minor puncture wound is at risk for infection, especially at a place like this. I tried to call, but no one answered. I also recently sent a FB message, but have not received a reply.
Before we even made the boarding reservations, I called to make sure they would take Clyde, as he is a rescue dog deemed as an "aggressive" mix, although we have NEVER had any issues. He is timid of people, so the kennel suggested we opt for an XL kennel just in case he displayed any fear aggression. He loves all dogs and has never shown any aggression. He loves to play and run with his dog friends. I called and checked on him a couple of days after we dropped him off, and were told he was fearful of people, but was doing well with the other dogs. When we picked him up we asked again how he did and how much interaction time he had with the other dogs, and we were informed that early into his stay he was playing too roughly with some of the dogs, so out of precaution he was only to play or go outside alone. How sad. I understand the worry from the facility, but at the same time I had higher expectations how the "trained" staff would handle him. The website lists "All of our canine friends enjoy one on one personal attention during the day as well as their socialized playtime with their new friends. With twice-daily outdoor walks in our fully contained three-acre dog park, each outdoor walk is one hour of fully supervised and individualized playtime at no extra charge. Playing with other dogs and our dog-loving staff offers your pet ample opportunities to run, enjoy themselves and tire themselves out." I wonder how much of the advertised "enjoyment" my dog got to experience.
Another issue we have is that when we dropped him off I sent very clear instructions about his eating habits. We sent Clyde with about 2-3 days worth of food, and I told them to finish the food we sent while tapering him off with the $1.50 per day lamb and rice food they provide. For some reason we were sent back with the exact same amount of food that we sent with him and asked them to finish it off. Hmm.. so either my dog starved (as he does look like he lost weight) or they completely ignored our instructions and switched his food cold-turkey.
Natures Acres Kennels will never see another penny from me. What a horrible experience, and even worse customer service. If that's how Sharon treats her customers, then she's in the wrong business. I hope my dog will forgive me one day. read more
