Good reviews on Yelp so I was excited to try this. Ordered very basic stuff - summer rolls, paid Thai, and basil chicken. Service was prompt and courteous. That's the nicest thing I could say about this meal. The cold spring rolls and pad Thai had virtually no flavor. I rarely use a lime with the pad Thai but I was desperate to find one today. My Favorite Thai restaurant in Hilo. I LOVE the fresh Lilikoi juice! I could drink this all day everyday! If I lived within walking distance I would come here everyday to order the lilikoi juice. Perfect! The Thai Coconut Soup is the best I have ever had. Usually I'm not really into it since oftentimes the coconut can be to heavy for me. The TCS here is amazing, perfect, I love it. Fresh herbs, veggies a plenty, perfect balance of flavors. Every time I have been here all the tables are taken, but thankfully it hasn't ever been to long of a wait for one to open up. Maybe make a reservation if they take them. Even with it always being incredibly busy, the service is great. For such a busy place- I feel a sense of peace here. Definitely a place I would bring friends, family, or to chill in the peaceful deliciousness of it all just lil 'ol me :) Nice restroom and Street parking only. We came here on a Sunday for lunch. I lived in Bangkok for a year, and I have eaten Thai food in countless places throughout the USA. Moreover, I've taken two Thai cooking classes and make Thai food about once a week. I say all this to emphasize that I know good Thai food when I experience it. I would put Nuang Mai in the bottom 10 percent of all the food I have eaten. It's like the cook/s know nothing about Thai food. The pad Thai was sitting in a puddle of sauce, which is not supposed to happen and something I have never seen. It tasted just OK, but it was filled with large chunks of diced chicken. That's as opposed to thinly sliced like pad Thai is supposed to have. The red curry was fine, although it featured the same large chicken chunks and was somewhat bland. The pad see ew was just bad- reconstituted rice noodles as opposed to the nice soft fresh ones. It was also very bland. The "see ew " part means cooked in soy sauce, but I tasted very little in this dish. We got the chicken sate, which is supposed to be fire-grilled on skewers. This came in chunks and was clearly sautéed, because it was covered in a sludge of spices that tasted more Indian than Thai. The peanut sauce was watery and decidedly unpeanutty. The fried rice was pretty good, but all the dishes were choked with so many large chunks of vegetables that they made up more than half of the dish. The service was good, however, and our food came in good time. All in all, I would not recommend this place. read more

I'm so sad to write this. After patronizing this place for years, yes YEARS, I will sadly not be back as often anymore. They had a good run until a few years ago, BEFORE Covid-19 hit. I noticed the shift in portion sizes and customer service. After having bad experiences inside, I tried to avoid the stressed out workers by ordering only takeout. Well, that didn't help because when you come in to pay when picking up, they are clearly misinformed on proper customer service. Just the other day, they asked if I wanted my change before they even told me the total. Then when I said yes, he looked disgruntled and put my sauce together, however, it was not the usual amount. It was about 1/2 of a tablespoon's worth of sauce in the little sauce containers, not even a 1/4 of the way full. They've given me 1/2 way full and once it was 3/4 full. Not sure why it's not consistent. It really felt like he was upset I wanted my change so he shortchanged me on the sauce. Anyway, the main reason for this sad review is the way I'm treated and their stinginess, plain and simple. Overall, portions are smaller and not consistent. I understand inflation so can understand the prices and portions are not the same anymore but the rude customer service is just beyond comprehension. read more

This restaurant was small but nicely appointed with bright yellow walls, subtle lighting, warm wood and touches of gold on table cloths and the edges of menus. My boyfriend and I both enjoyed our dishes: pineapple curry for him (in a sauce akin to panang curry) and pineapple fried rice for me (an unusual rendering, though tasty -- it came with chicken and shrimp, though there were only two shrimp; it was sweet with dates, and was made with brown rice rather than white, and had some sort of sauce that left a yellow stain behind of the plate -- curry? It is the best Thai restaurant in the Big Island. I had tried some of Thai restaurants in Kona. Not as good as this restaurant. I ordered Pad Kee Mao with Shrimp and medium spicy. It tasted soo authentic, flavorful and right on spot. The sauce was not too salty. It had a sweet and sour taste to it. It seems to me that they used tamarind to mạke the sauce. It was excellent. I was just looking for some Thai food and this was conveniently close to my Airbnb (yes, I'm a tourist from mainland). It was surprisingly good, as most hole-in-the-wall restaurants are. This restaurant is a 3rd generation Thai restaurant and their flavors are perfected. The service was also great with someone coming to refill our water and ask us how everything was almost very 10 mins. And of course, an added bonus is the free soda because of the yelp offer. We decided to try something new in Hilo (instead of Nori's). This didn't disappoint. Very good Thai food. It's a hole-in-the-wall sort of feel with strong southeast Asian vibes. The Pah Thai was not my favorite on the big island (since I'm from Kona) but the coconut fried shrimp and sticky rice were bomb.
