I love Nautical Bean and will return again in the future, but this trip was not a hit. I started my meal with my favorite drink from this shop, a Shot in the Dark. This is a chai tea with a shot of espresso and nobody does it like Nautical Bean! The staff are always very friendly, helpful and patient. They are never pushing no matter how undecided you are. And they are happy to make recommendations if you ask. I appreciate that all the portions are regular sized and nothing is so large that it's intimidating. All the food is well-made and the ingredients are fresh. There is outside seating at this location and no indoor seating. After your order is taken you are given a number and you can take that to your table. However, drinks are usually served at a pass out bar next to the cashier so don't forget to check for those drinks while you're waiting for your food. The mess on this trip was that I had ordered the avocado toast, which has tomatoes. The tomatoes were definitely not very ripe and I would've preferred that the staff let me know this instead of serving the avocado toast with subpar tomatoes. I would've just gone without the tomatoes. I also ordered a side of scrambled eggs with cheddar, and these were very rubbery and sort of gray in part. I ended up throwing the eggs away. While this experience wasn't the best, I will say that every other time I've eaten at this location it has been wonderful. I think this must've been an off day but like to be honest in my reviews. However, I will come back in the future and review this location again.

Awesome decor and great coffee! The food is amazing as well and very reasonably priced.

Nice local coffee cafe. Good drinks, breakfast sandwiches, pastries. Very kool decor inside. Fills the time while you wait for your order. Most of the employees are cheerful and nice . Did run across one staff that seemed grumpy.. I get it it's early he's a kid! Won't hold it against him. Of course busy on weekends from 8-10,, other than that usually pretty quick service. We always go there when in Los oso.. while we stay at baywood inn. Who's is a very nice hotel , gives vouchers for the nautical bean while staying there.

We just had some specialty coffee today. The cool thing about this little coffee spot is the location and the decor. Inside they have a really fun collection of old lunchboxes from the 60s-80s generation. I personally love nostalgic touches like this. The skate decks and famous memorabilia is super fun! Outside you have an awesome walk around the bay and several places to sit and enjoy the views. The service people are super nice and we got our drinks very quick even with a pretty large number of people around. We stayed for a bit talking about the lunchbox memories.

Seen at the Bean... and also the scene at the Bean.

Got the morning off? Head down to the Baywood bay and relax at the Nautical Bean. They have on or off street parking, good fresh brews of coffee, and a breakfast burrito I enjoy dumping their fresh salsa on. The kid loves to take the puppers here and grab some grub, pastries, an almond milk chai tea, and eat on the patio and "chill". (they're dog-friendly with treats and water dishes for the canine kids)

Yummy coffee and kind people. The menu has some confusing things so: Matte = green tea (caffeinated) You can put cold foam on everything! It's like whipped cream topping but less sweet/creamy. Chocolate butterscotch is not hot chocolate, it's coffee.

Nautical Bean is a local chain, but this one is right at the water, and just 350 feet from Marea Art Studio. Worth a detour

This is one of the coolest coffee shops I have been to. Absolutely loved the vibe, millenial core to the max with pop art and plastic lunch boxes on the walls, it's awesome. I got the mint chip latté. It had just a subtle mint chocolate flavor and it was rich and delicious. I also got the pumpkin muffin because I love pumpkin and it was just alright, the flavor can be improved but the texture was moist and fluffy, I will try another flavor next time. I love the location, right next to the water, and they had plenty of outside seating to enjoy the view with your food and drink. Parking could be challenging, as far as i could tell it's just street parking unless you are staying at the hotel next door or across the street. Either way, I will be back, next time I want to try their breakfast food because passing by it looked pretty good. They also have a really good setup with creamers and sweeteners if you just want a black coffee.

Wayward Baking is one of my favorite bakeries of 2026…read more 1. I've only heard great things about Wayward Baking so I had some expectations - each one of them was met and then some. This bakery is simply amazing and everything I tried was so good. 2. I ordered a kouign amann, chocolate croissant, morning bun, double chocolate cookie, and two caneles. If I could order more, I would've added a rice pudding danish, basque cheesecake slice, and madeleine. I love that when standing in line, you can peek into the kitchen to see what the bakers are working on. It's really nice to see the process and work that go into everything. 3. Their chocolate croissant is my ideal chocolate croissant. I love when the outer layer is crisp and the inner layers are soft and buttery. The caneles were yummy - they were crispy on the outside, custardy on the inside, and the flavor was perfect. I loved the double chocolate cookie as well, it had great texture and the flavor was very balanced - not too sweet! 4. Even if it's a bit out of the way, I would absolutely come back every time I'm in the area.

The space itself is cute and has the feel of a neighborhood hangout, and the pastries are beautifully presented. Unfortunately, the pastries were hit or miss. Some were nice and flaky, while others tasted a little stale. The ham and cheese croissant was served cold, which was disappointing. We also tried the strawberry danish and tomato danish, and both were pretty mid. The standout, however, was their seasonal fig and walnut danish--that one was actually really good and something I would have ordered again. Their drink selection is also pretty limited. It was essentially coffee and hot chocolate when we visited. As more of a tea person, I was disappointed that there weren't any tea options, and they didn't have juices either. The main reason for my low rating, though, was our interaction with the staff member who took our order. She came across as very rude and repeatedly made impatient tapping sounds while we were ordering. We were ordering quite a few items, and the interaction made me feel rushed and as though we were inconveniencing her simply by placing a larger order. At first, I assumed she might just be having a bad day. But while we sat and ate our pastries, I watched her interact with other customers, and her demeanor was noticeably different--warm, friendly, and welcoming. That contrast made our experience even more uncomfortable. We were the only Asians in the store at the time, and while I obviously can't know what motivated her behavior, the difference in how we were treated compared with the customers who came after us left me wondering whether our race played a role. That's a serious conclusion, and I don't make it lightly. I can only speak to what I personally observed and how the interaction made me feel. Unfortunately, it overshadowed the entire visit. Even with a couple of good pastries, I wouldn't come back.

I purchased the pain au levain, in lieu of a baguette, for $12. The price is pretty steep for a loaf, but seems to be the going rate for these smaller boutique bake shops. The bread itself was warm when I purchased it, which was awesome. Enjoyed it with my coffee, but did find it to be a little doughy on the inside. Good flavor, but not something I would come back for. I'd rate it a solid 3.5. I also purchased the chocolate chip cookies. I think I completely went brain dead when I bought these, because I did read they were gluten-free and vegan, but still bought the pack of 6. Man, they looked like chocolate chip cookies, but didn't taste like chocolate to me, at all. For a regular chocolate chip cookie lover, it's a 1 star. For someone looking for a gluten-free and vegan cookie, this could be a winner. Maybe.

Hello! You had me at absolutely charming!…read more First of all, I've never been to Morro Bay and it was probably the only torrential rainy day in a Century. Being from Seattle, I'm nothing but used to the rain. But this little visit to the bakery warmed my heart. As we drove to the bakery we stopped at Morro Rock, , so I could actually see the amazing 23 million year old monolith. So fun to see the surfers out there! As we started driving into a neighborhood to get to the basket, I was like, "What? Am I going to Gramma's house?" And then, we pull into the freaking cutest little beach house with a garden that made the bleakest day make you feel like sunshine and rainbows. Upon entry, the baked spices and smells blow your olfactories! Yummm! We felt the young lady was very overwhelmed with all the baking!! And maybe our dumbfoundedness was overwhelming. Or maybe I was overwhelmed with so many amazing options and goodies!! She had just pulled something out of the oven. We ordered lemon curd and raspberry tarts, brownies, curry croissants, ham and cheese croissant, french onion soup croissant and some other cookie that someone snuck in on the sly. Sadly, there was no seating there, so we had to take everything to go. Luckily we were only 10 min away. Everything was epically delicious. Especially the flaky curry croissants!!!! They really know how to do it!!! If we had more time we would try their bread. I can't imagine what this place is like when it's peak season but it must be crazy! It is a must visit!!!

    - Groggy's Scallywag Coffee House…read more My girlfriend and I stopped at Groggy Scallywag Coffee House during a short trip to Morro Bay after she had noticed it on a previous visit. I'm glad we finally tried it. It's a small coffee shop right off Embarcadero with a simple setup. They have refrigerators with cold drinks, can make both hot and iced coffee, and also offer a small selection of pastries such as muffins, croissants, bagels, and cinnamon rolls. They also sell coffee to take home. There really isn't indoor seating, but that did not bother us at all. You're right by the coast, and there are tables outside in the breezeway along with areas near the dock where you can stand and enjoy your drink. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The menu is displayed on a TV screen near the entrance, which made ordering easy. I ordered a large iced Mexican mocha, and it was excellent. You could actually taste the spice in it rather than it just tasting like a regular mocha with a different name. I would absolutely order it again. One small thing that really stood out to me was their discount program. Near the register, they had a multicolored flag recognizing several groups including military, law enforcement, EMS, firefighters, dispatchers, and nurses. Before ringing us up, the employee pointed to it and asked whether any of those applied to us. I told her I was a nurse, and she immediately gave me 10% off. I thought that was a really nice touch. Discounts for military and first responders are common, but nurses are not always included, so I appreciated the recognition. Between the good coffee, friendly staff, convenient location, and thoughtful service, I really have nothing negative to say about this place. I would absolutely come back and would gladly try more of their drinks and pastries next time I'm in Morro Bay.

Walking in, you can tell this is a classic neighborhood café. There's nothing overly fancy about it--just a few tables, a small pastry case, and, of course, coffee. One thing that surprised me was the music choice. They were playing what sounded like punk rock, which felt a little out of place for the atmosphere of the café, especially since many of the customers appeared to be older adults. For my order, I went with a blueberry muffin and a cappuccino. The muffin was fresh and flavorful, and the cappuccino was well made. Overall, I was happy with both items. The reason I'm taking off a star is because the employee working during my visit used a lot of profanity while speaking. I understand that casual conversation happens, but I don't think that kind of language is appropriate in a café setting where customers are trying to relax and enjoy their coffee. Overall, I would recommend this place if you're looking for a quick grab-and-go coffee or pastry. The food and drinks were good, but the atmosphere wasn't ideal for sitting down to study, work, or have a conversation with someone.
