I have to admit that my expectations were really low. The reservation was made by an elderly relative who had fond memories of this restaurant from long ago and I had my doubts... Dinner was set for Sunday afternoon at 5. We arrived to find a warm reception and other people happily enjoying their meals. While the food served was good, the service was exceptional. Visited here last week after being turned away from Prime because they didn't want to open up a table in an empty restaurant. We really enjoyed ourselves. It was a rainy night so we had the place to ourselves. We had monk fish and shrimp oreganta which were both delicious! The waiter and staff were so friendly also. Definitely going back! read more

Continues to deliver consistent, fresh food in a nice atmosphere looking down on the Freeport Nautical mile. Some of the staff have been there for many years and continue to serve with pride. Small bar and good drinks, but the place is about the food and service. I'll be back soon. read more

Went here for dinner because it was the only non trashy place on the mile to take a friend who was visiting. Our waitress was very nice! Very helpful with the menu. I felt the menu was limited in options. In the end, liked the crusted tuna and pot of mussels on the appetizers. read more

The Nautilus Café was a wonderful surprise! We both elected the prix fix dinner which included soup, salad, entrée, dessert, coffee or tea for the price of the entrée. Cosmo and Grey Goose on the rocks excellent. Crab bisque outstanding! Salads: super fresh with peeled cucumbers, grape tomatoes, red onion, assorted greens and two superb dressings...Russian and Blue Cheese...as requested on the side. Real chunks of blue cheese btw. Water replenished without asking. Plates removed in a timely fashion. Main courses: Ale battered jumbo shrimp (the best ever); and sauteed soft shell crabs. We chose sides of broccoli with garlic oil and creamed spinach. Desserts chosen: Oreo ice cream and NY cheesecake with coffee and tea. Our server Matt was perfect in each regard. As the cafe filled, we overheard the same attention to detail and service. Will definitely revisit and recommend. Menu has diverse options for all. read more

Went with my family last night for dinner. We had a coupon which made us wait until 7pm to use it to get a "free meal" when we have always come in for the early bird. When we got there, we were greeted by a young waiter who didn't seem to care less we were there and came to take our order and we didn't really see him again. He blamed our salads coming late on a "problem in the kitchen" and the manager eventually came and brought it for us. We only saw bus Boys from then on out who were wonderful. We order our meals and they were mediocre at best, which wasn't expected. I guess the food is better on the early bird menu. My nautical broiled trio or whatever was completely bland...just very disappointed in this experience we had last night overall and don't plan on returning unless we come for early bird and we get a better bang for our buck. read more

First time going to Nautical Mile (after living in Rockville Centre for over 2 years), and thanks to trusty Yelp, found this place! Went with my father for the early bird special (which he very much appreciated). Walked in, and thought I was in a nursing home, but must say was pleasantly surprised. Service, food, all of the above were EXCELLENT!!! Even though the decor hasn't changed in probably 30 years, the food has kept up with the times, and they just know what they need to do. Crusted Branzini and Tuna dishes were fabulous!!! Shout out to Laura, the server, who went above and beyond. All of the places on the mile should mirror after this place as it seems like one of the few that has been standing forever. Will definitely be going back, and maybe even for the early bird, so we can check out some of the bars along the water. read more

Terrible restaurant; a complete ripoff. They advertise 2 for 1 lobster at $42.00 on Monday's. When bill came they claimed "oh no, the ad is wrong it is $42.00 each". Place was dirty and service was lousy. Will never go back and recommend you don't either. read more

Very good food, fish was very fresh. No monster portions, which I appreciate. Not cheap so be prepared to spend some money.

Came here for a late night dinner on a Friday night. Matt waited our table, he was very attentive and provided satisfactory service. The quality of the food was great! I ordered the Cedar Planked Atlantic Salmon, it literally melted in my mouth. My boyfriend ordered the Filet of Sole, Sauté Meunière, he was quite impressed with the portion and seasoning. Yes this restaurant is pricey indeed but in my opinion you're getting your monies worth. I would recommend this place for a romantic dinner or for a birthday dinner with a small crowd. read more

Went to celebrate a birthday.party of 9 during restaurant week ..great r.w.menu offerings I ordered off that menu..plus every Monday nite there's a 2 lb lobster special dinner for 44.95 (for the birthday girl) .i ordered the lobster caesar salad ( excellent) ..my entree-roast duck ( ordered -crisp)with raspberry sauce On The side & Parmesan risotto..the duck was perfectly meaty & juicy (no fat whatsoever) ..with fab crispy skin..the risotto ( I usually don't like risotto) was superb..the chocolate mousse cake is heavenly light...the owner who was cooking tonight,outdid himself on all the various selections ordered by all.they do a fab lobster bisque ..run ,don't walk,to the nautilus on the Woodcleft canal .their restaurant week menu is fab..They do a super halibut as well.nice service. Made a reservation for 7 PM on a Saturday evening. We were seated promptly. Fish dishes were fresh, perfectly cooked, and simply prepared. Dinner entrees are served with a decent house or a very nice Caesar salad with shaved Parmesan. Entrees are mostly alacarte with limited accompaniments in a few instances. Sole Menuniere was perfectly cooked with just the right amount of butter. Macadamia crusted Tilapia was a more ambitious dish that also was excellent. A side order of steamed broccoli was perfectly steamed. Apple Crumb dessert was very good. Service was attentive as you'd expect with 5 servers for 15 tables. Every table has a view of the marina area even though this restaurant isn't directly on the water. The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because the preparations are simple. Then again, the preparations at some of Manhattan's finest fish houses are simply prepared as well. read more

Had dinner there the other night. Probably the best restaurant on the nautical mile.The clam chowders are above average and actually taste of clams. The scallops I had were properly cooked and my wife's stuffed shrimp were well prepared. The caesar salad was excellent. I have eaten there many times in the past and have yet to have a bad meal. During the week they also have a steak and a lobster night. Both are worth checking out. Food was a bit pricey but worth it. The restaurant is small so reservations are suggested. read more

Racist establishment. We couldn't believe it, 2017 but they were rude and very matter of fact about it as well. We made a reservation for Saturday night 10:00 pm. Over the phone, no problem. It was pouring rain we arrive at 10;12 pm, the host takes one look at us and immediately says "sorry the kitchen is closed". We apologized and saying the roads were difficult and we are only a few minutes late. They told us all of the kitchen staff had left, yet they were all sitting at the bar! Right in front of us they told us there was nothing they could do, the kitchen staff themselves said this to us. four European women, who were actively dining couldn't believe their behavior, stating loudly "they are only 10 minutes late,in this weather" No apology, no kindness, just shooing us away. Terrible place, horrible manners, insulting treatment. PLEASE SELECT ANOTHER OPTION, especially if you happen to be a minority. It seems they only want a certain type of client. read more

Wonderful meal at Nautilus Cafe. The service was top notch. Every staff member from the bar, hostess and wait staff were all polite and accommodating. You can tell its well run. The shrimp cocktail was fresh firm and delicious. I had the halibut special with mushrooms and a butter crabmeat sauce. Delicious! The others had steak with fried shrimp. Perfection! The steak was cooked on point. Cocktails served with chilled glasses and it was child friendly. A gem! This is a restaurant on the Nautical Mile, but it is on the side opposite to the canal..so no great review. The big "draw" is they have an excellent early bird special (soup/salad, entree, dessert for price of the entree). This bargain does seem to draw in the senior citizen crowd but this doesn't really bother me. I had the skirt steak and a cup of clam chowder both were excellent. The service is top-notch - when your food is delivered, it is placed in front of you WITHOUT being asked, "who gets the .....? Went here Saturday with my brother who is a big fan of this place. Well, now I'm a big fan as well. We both had the prime rib dinner, which was easily the largest prime rib I have ever had, cooked to perfection, and tasted great. My husband and I stopped by after a trip to jones beach. It was about 5pm and we were able to catch the early bird special. Entrees came with soup, salad, potato or vegetable and desert with tea or coffee. What a great deal! We didn't have reservations so they offered us the bar which was fine with us. We actually had a bar table that was perfect. Our meals were delicious. I had the broiled nautilus shrimp sole and scallops and my husband had the halibut special. The carrot cake was moist and cheesecake scrumptious. Highly recommend this restaurant if you are in Freeport on the Nautilus Mile. read more

We have always been completely satisfied with the food and service at Nautilus. Living locally, we tend to enjoy it more post season when the crowds are gone from the Mile. I had a special which included a lobster tail, broiled scallops and coconut shrimp. A combination of everything I love in seafood. It didn't disappoint. Everything was cooked to perfection. My husband had the whole lobster which they stuffed upon his request. It was absolutely delicious. Perhaps, one of the best stuffings he's ever had in a lobster. I have to agree. With the early bird special, you cannot go wrong here. For the price of the entree, you get soup AND salad, entree, side dish and coffee and dessert. You won't find a better deal anywhere. We've lived locally for 25 years and this is the only restaurant we will go to on the Nautical Mile. The food and service is beyond compare. read more

Growing up RVC in the 60's my parents always held Nautilus as one of the top restaurants on the South Shore. I had not been for about 8 years(sorry Brian), but after having lunch there today I 'kick myself' that I have gone around the supposed seafood restaurants, and wasted so much time. The delicate sole at lunch today was cooked to flaky perfection, and the tuna that came in the salad was as well. See you soon, just hope that I can get in on a Saturday night. read more

We were a party of 3 on Thursday, 9/19/13. We arrived at 6:15 and did not even get a menu until 6:50. We were finally able to order and were served at about 7:30. The food admittedly was excellent but the service was truly horrendous. Unless you have all the time in the world to sit and talk (or not!) this is definitely not the place for you! read more
