Trade you a kid or a kidney for an 8 AM Tee Time on the weekend? Seriously... getting a morning teetime here on the weekend is damn near impossible. They only do first come first serve but depending on your military status you may go to the back of the line automatically. Tee times open to different groups each day starting with Active Duty then down to DoD Civilians...tee times are usually gone by Monday morning. The staff here is pretty [snobby/snarky/krass/unwelcoming] and probably doesn't care whether you enjoy a round here at all. They do the job, but don't expect them to say hello or smile when they speak to you. Definitely reason enough to drop a star. Navy Marine probably has the nicest "clubhouse" of all the military courses on island. The restaurant, formerly "Sam Sneads", is nice as long as everyone in your party eats the Sunday Brunch OR everyone eats off the menu, you can't do both if you want to sit together...stupidest thing I've ever heard of and totally amateur. I'll review that separtely because it doesn't affect the golf. The range is nice and long and there are plenty of stalls. I enjoy hitting off the grass instead of mats so I give them props for this. The yardage markers are nice and well placed. Fairways are a little bit longer but they are wide open...REALLY WIDE. There isn't much of a challenge if you can hit your driver KINDA straight. There are a few well placed obstacles on a couple of holes to add a little bit of difficulty. Great place to play if you are trying to improve your game and are just getting started though! This is nice because it helps newer players get to the green without getting too frustrated. Greens are okay. They are well maintained, as is the rest of the course. While the greens can get a little speedy later in the day, they aren't very challenging and most approach shots will have you putting from a good location. This course is fine for walkers and there were plenty while I was playing. I read some reviews suggesting that the holes are significantly longer and not good for walking but they aren't. Maybe a few longer Par 4s, but nothing daunting. If you like to walk, go for it. Nice and easy course in a great location. Convenient for a quick twilight 9 holes or a few buckets after work. I wouldn't get too hung up on trying to play here on the weekends and just wait until you have weekday off for some reason and try to get a time then. Stronger golfers will definitely want to play elsewhere. read more

Had the chance to play this course for the first time every yesterday. It was really nice, because it was a Monday we didn't have to follow anyone and no groups were chasing our heels behind us so we could leisurely play a nice round of golf. Don't let this course deceive you however. It looks really easy, wide open fairways, flat, not many obstacles....To make up for this, especially the wide open straight fairways.....they holes are longer than normal Hawaii courses. The wind also comes into play so some of the holes that look long....look even longer because you're hitting in the the teeth of the trade winds. And OMG the greens here. I mean I was getting on the greens in 2 shots and that includes the Par 5's but the greens here are so tough to read. The grain is really strong one way or the other so you could be putting on a downhill lie but into the grain so you tap your ball taking the lie into account only to fall short like 2 feet from the hole because of the grain! Same thing going the other way, if you are going uphill but with the grain you end up firing your balls 3 feet past the hole! I started adjusting toward the later holes but getting the speed down and the breaks here take sheer genius. Like my friends were saying we should just get on the green and take 2 strokes in cause there were numerous 3 and 4 putts yesterday! I also like that it's conveniently located in town and the restaurant upstairs also has decent food and a great view from the balcony. It's too bad the public can't play here, you're going to have to go with someone with a military ID or access. read more

Conveniently located next to the airport, the weather tends to be nice most of the time. Even with some light morning rain, itll keep the course green and fresh. From a recreational player perspective (I shoot about 100), this is my favorite course. Fewer obstacles and hazards than most places. Less vegetation to lose your balls in (so to speak). Long and wide fairways and mostly open areas in between the holes. Not really ever congested and the players here are pretty forgiving of us rec players... Tee times accepted 7 days out. Decent pro shop, $2 buckets (+/- 30 balls) at the driving range, beers sold at both the 19th hole and a snack bar that you'll pass every 6 holes or so. Greens seem a bit inconsistent, but hey so am I... Grounds are kept pretty well and for the price, it's hard to beat. I picked up golfing when I moved to Hawaii, cause what a better place to play. I've hit up most of he military courses on the island and had yet to try this place. I had heard nothing but great things about the course, and for the most part it is true. The course is alright in decent condition. The greens are fast and the fairways straight. Issues with the course arose when the marshal approached our group irate telling us how to park our carts and not to have instructions on the course. I understand that lessons need to be done on the driving range, but for the first time golfer we had with us, some lessons were necessary. All in all I was having a good time golfing with some buddies, until we were scolded for what seemed to be a minor offense, if you can even call or that. Back at the club house I asked about a rain check as most military courses offer one if only playing nine holes. In a very demeaning manor the front desk let me know that they, nor any other course offer a rain check if it's not raining. I know from personal experience that this is not the case as I have on many occasions received a rain check since I pay for eighteen holes but only play nine. I have given navy marine golf course three stars for their less than satisfactory costumer service. The course itself is in fine conditions. I would recommend this place if you want to play on a nice course but have a chance of being belittled by the staff. read more

First off I want to state that the golfing experience was average. The main problem about this location is the customer service. My group and I were not able to finish our 9 holes because the end time is at 6pm. As we were all beginners and this was the first golf course we've ever played on, we were just trying to understand the game and enjoy our time. Then by the end of our game and returning the carts back to the building, the front desk employee stated that he will need to write down our names because he "thinks" we were driving on the green and will have to pay the possible damages (if they find any). While denying the employees to provide them our id's or names due to us requesting a note stating that there are no written policies or signs stating the wrong places to drive the vehicles, nor were informed before we played. As people that are completely new to golfing and not given proper rules regarding the course, how are we supposed to know?! He then begins to call his supervisor, David W. Chin, explaining that we are requesting for a note stating that we weren't informed about any of the rules before providing our identificatoons. The employee states that the company just "expects people not to drive on the green." He then hands the phone to me and I speak with Mr. Chin and he comes off very aggressive and threatening us to hand our id's to the employee or will be brought with Base Police, asking for our Command and who our Commanding Officers are. "You need to give him your ID's NOW." In a calm, polite, and professional manner, I deny all his requests as we are not required to do so and because Mr. Chin was very aggressive and yelling through the phone. When Base Police was called and arrived to the building, we were all dismissed due to no legal charge could be proven. Overall, I do not appreciate the customer service, how these individuals treat us military members with such lack of respect; that they look at themselves as a "higher power" against us. Navy-Marine Golf Course or Mr. Todd J. Nicely, I hope you can take better action towards your employees and give us beginner level players a better understanding onto the policies of the course. I am not requesting an apology from Mr. Chin, but for that individual to be spoken to about his actions. read more

The Pro Shop members were rude with a "better then you attitude". After a few minutes of being talked down to, I quickly decided that I will not be returning to this course. Also, the course was in good condition but the pace of play was very, very slow. They allow fivesomes to play, though it was against one of the rules they were barking at me. Short, well-manicured course near the Honolulu Int'l Airport for military personnel and retirees. Played the course years ago while a college student and recently went with my son and family members...course layout has changed slightly over the years, but the greens/fairways were familiar and in good condition. Overall, a fun and enjoyable round...only downside was the closed practice range. read more

This course is the most forgiving course on Oahu. It's not too long. The fairways and adjacent fairways permit players who have a bad slice or hook to continue playing without taking a drop costing penalty strokes. The greens are challenging and the bunkers are filled with soft sand. They don't have a roving beverage and snack cart. Overall 4 stars which is pretty good for a military golf course. read more

This is my favorite golf course on Oahu. This military course is in very good shape and the greens are fast and grainy. Very good walking course with a lot of shade along the fairways. Most players tee up from the blue tees here as the course is rather short. Simon and his gang are always on top of things and the are no issues checking in. Play is normally at 4 hours. The little 604 restaurant has a good menu and quality is good. read more

They should be ashamed to call themselves MWR. This course's staff has lost sight of the mission of the MWR program and needs to be replaced immediately. They definitely cater to the 1% and not the vast majority of military personnel and their families. The staff is downright rude and condescending. They act like the course is on the PGA tour and they are doing you a favor by letting you play there. Save your money and go to Mamala Bay or the Hickam Par 3. If you want to play on a course run by snobbish pricks this is the course for you. The sad thing is they will probably take this as a compliment. read more

Great course and great staff. I notice that most of the detractors who have posted negative reviews are visiting players who demand the same benefits that their home courses provide. They complain about no rain check because it's not raining. Whine about having to pay for their family member who will be just riding along (maybe taking a few swings on some holes), or complain about not being treated with the proper respect because they are military members. Well, they should be reminded that they are playing at one of the busiest golf courses in the world and all the fellow players at Navy Marine are military members, retirees and guests. It's a wonder how the staff can remain so courteous to all customers while processing the hundreds of golfers who play there every day. Good job and keep up the good work people! read more

I used to play a lot at Navy Marine Golf Course. I'm retired military & lived in Honolulu for 15 years. Customer Service is terrible from the personnel in the pro-shop. It has been that way for years & I blame that on the Pro-shop management. I know customer service because I used to work for Enterprise rent A Car for 13 years. This course is in excellent shape, demanding enough to be interesting and forgiving enough to be enjoyable. I do have to say that their starter needs to learn manners and to respect his clients; we arrived 45 minutes early - paid our fees and was told by the cashier that the 1st tee was open and we could go off anytime. My foursome gathered our things and proceeded toward the first tee; there were 2 other foursomes in front of us so we waited - I did not hear any groups called to the 1st tee box, nor any on-deck calls. After about :20 minutes the tee box was clear and we proceeded to start; the "starter" approached our group in an aggressive manner and very rudely asked what did we think we were doing as he didn't call us to the tee. Obviously there is a communication issue and friction between the clubhouse staff. I would have given this course 4 stars if not for the less than "Mahalo" spirit of the starter. But after reading the reviews of other yelper's this isn't an isolated incident - I guess when you have a captive client base and a federally funded budget you don't need to provide good service to remain viable. read more

Awesome staff, even when busy they really try to accommodate every person that comes in. No tee time, no problem if your a single walk on, they will find you a spot. Greens are always smooth and run true, just remember they break to the H1. Play the forward white tees and you have a real chance at a great score for the average hacker. When they're busy which is most days, have a tiny bit of patience and you'll be surprised at how they will find you a game. One last thing, if they give you a little direction understand it's for everyone's benefit, they want to help everyone as efficiently as possible. So one last thing, if you do play there, fix your ball marks and divots, its the proper thing to do. Mahalo and Aloha. read more

I've never been kicked off a golf course at 5:15 pm until this one... apparently twilight golf means something different to them than the rest of the world.. but I guess that's what you get when you golf at a DoD course. Nobody really cares on whether you have a good experience or not. Or whether you will be a repeat customer.. they just want you to leave so they can go home. read more

I've golfed on 3 separate continents and over 100 course over the past 20 years and I can say I've never been harassed before by the staff on a golf course....until last weekend when I played at Navy Marine. If it wasn't for the extremely rude course marshal I'd rate my experience a 5 for the value and course conditions. The course itself is the best military course on the island for the value but the way my foursome was treated this weekend means this course has lost my business for good. The marshal followed my foursome around, reminding us every 2nd hole that "we were playing too slow and needed to hurry up". For context, my foursome was walking and maintained a 2.20 pace for the first nine holes, with no group behind us waiting). The icing on the cake was when the marshal came into the clubhouse while my group was ordering water and hot dogs at the turn and processed to exclaim in front of the busy snack bar, "I can't believe you guys stopped at the turn! I'm going to have to let the group behind you play through!" end quote. Wow! So my group proceeded to move to the 1st tee after the turn and wait 20 minutes for the group behind us to catch up and then T off-... I recommend not playing here on a weekend at least until they find a new marshal or be prepared to "hurry" through your round. Shameful.. read more

Nice course near the H1 so easy access. Fairly wide open so u can swing away. Good variety of holes and in good condition for all the play it gets. Staff is friendly, pro shop a little small, but they have a good selection. On site restaurant (did not try), no beverage cart, but a snack house that u go by 4 times so that works. Military course and they do check ID's so go with a Vet or AD. read more

Not a bad course. Wide open fairways with fewer obstacles than most courses I play. I like how even though it is military it's not on base so not as much as a pain to get to. Also they have a snack bar where about 4 holes meet, which is a major plus. The mark downs are for little things. Such as lacking a GPS in the cart..the distance quoted on the cards did not feel too accurate..and background noise from cars playing music too loud was a little distracting. read more

I'm a regular player there and enjoy the course however the recent change to the vender running the lower restaurant and the concession stand needs to be reviewed. The prices are ridiculous and the selection of items available i.e..only cans, no coffee, over priced sandwiches and snacks. I'm trying to understand how changing vendors equates to about a 15-25% increase in pricing. read more

I'm giving 5 stars mainly because of the golf lesson my husband and I just had today. I have held golf clubs twice before in my life. Simon, our instructor, in just an hour, managed to get me from completely missing the ball, to hitting 75% of them properly. I may be gifted in golf (NOT!), or Simon was a great instructor. His instruction was thorough and managed to get me to want to golf again. I can't wait to get back out there and get further instruction from him! read more

This course was great in all areas! I come to Hawaii about twice a year and usually play at K-Bay; already played K-bay and was looking for something different and didn't want to deal with the wind or the drive. I played 5/17/17, I was a walk on and the first out of the day. Checked in and the staff could not have been nicer (they were nice before I showed my ID card) I am an E8 and they were just as nice to the E5 I was playing with. The course was in great condition and the greens were exceptional!!! I think I have a new favorite course when I come back!! See you in December. read more

NM is doing a great job at "playing it forward". The golfing community is getting older and they position of the white tees give the shorter hitters a better chance of making pars or better. The longer players also have their tees well positioned for their game. Great job............ read more
