I had my hair done at the NAŌRU beauty salon. The stylist who did my hair was Miki. She did an amazing job at repairing my hair, making my curls bone straight, and giving me a haircut that made me feel gorgeous as I walked out. She is very dedicated to her craft and her skills are nothing to scoff at. She took what I thought was an impossible task, possible and blew my expectations away. Shes very skilled at what she does and I couldn't be happier with the results she gave me. However. The reasons why I'm not leaving 5 stars is due to the lack of understanding. I had made an appointment with her to get a touch up and haircut, but I had an emergency and needed to reschedule. I had called 3 times the day before and 2 times the day of to no response. When I was able to get a hold of her later in the week. I was told that I would no longer be seen and welcomed in the salon due to their policy. Which was they do not take back clients who "no call, no show". I apologized, tried to explain the situation and even offered to pay for the previous appointment so that I could be seen again. No budge. Finally, I'd like to point out how she kept calling me a man, and kept referring to me as a man despite two corrections. For reference, I'm NOT transgender, but I AM a lesbian woman. I'd advise for those who are queer to tread carefully. All in all. Great work, and great skill, but poor professionalism, rude chair-side etiquette and lack of sympathy. 4/5 read more

Amazing result by the one and only Miki! I Did a hair cut, a keratin smoothing and Japanese straightener treatment. Love the result so much, I keep on getting compliments on how healthy my hair looks. Miki is attentive, meticulous in her execution. The product used were top quality. Couldn't thank her enough! This is my first time getting a perm and I am so glad I chose this location. My stylist I worked with was phenomenal and went above my expectations. Miki was very honest about what is possible to do with my hair and she was very detail oriented. There was no rush to her work and I felt she listened to and answered all of my questions. I was not expecting it but I was served a complimentary drink she made! During my perm process, she also played the USA vs Bosnia soccer game on her tablet haha. I asked for a short bob at the previous salon and that beautician took a pair of clippers to my head and shaved the back of my head HAHAHA Miki took one look at me and just ogled at how terrible a haircut I had HAHA but suffice it to say she saved my hair. Bless you. I will be back to get my hair retouched and trimmed after growing it out more so I have more hair to shape. She's super warm and caring and will always offer tea or coffee. This was the best haircut and service I've ever gotten from a salon! I have a lot of hair and it can be quite coarse as well, thus, I've had my fair share of bad haircuts with impatient hairstylists and dread getting my hair cut. I called NAORU and spoke with Miki over the phone about my hair concerns and immediately you could tell you were speaking to someone who actually cared. She asked what my hair was like and what it was that I wanted, there was even an existing customer who had the same hair type as me vouching for her services. When I walked in, she took the time to check the quality of my hair, which was damaged from a previous bad color job I got elsewhere and in desperate need of a trim as the bottoms were feeling "sticky" from the damage. She offered me tea and chocolates and made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire appointment. I told her I wanted curtain bangs and to keep it as long as possible when removing the most damaged ends, and she absolutely delivered. It's really hard to get my bangs to look "fluffy", but they already looked great even when my hair wet, and just even better dry and styled. While cutting, Miki was attentive and detailed. You can definitely tell she takes pride in her work and for good reason. I was just so happy with the results and her service that I had to give her the biggest hug at the end! Mikki is a nice lady and she values service highly. Some of the highlights were offering teas with madeleines/chocolate as well as making sure you're comfortable with a pillow. She does strive for perfection. Why the low stars? Because there wasn't a respect for customer's time. Came here for a hair dye/haircut appointment which she was able to fit me in the same day. However, that's when things didn't go as smoothly. Once I got there, there was a wait to even be seen as she was finishing up other haircuts. Then, I didn't get the hair dye applied until well into the appointment time (45 minutes in). While my hair was being dyed, she was juggling between 2-3 clients. She did a very cursory haircut and then asked to apply more treatment in my hair. However, after 2.5 hours, she still wasn't done and as a busy mom, I had to go home. She then asked me to come back later on in the week to finish up with more dye/cut. Since it was quite pricey (services are a premium cost), I ended up coming back for almost 2 more hours where it was finally finished. Granted my hair needed a lot of work according to her, but this haircut/dye experience was one of the pricey but more importantly took way too many hours to finish. If you have extra time, I recommend her service. However, it was just not respectful to customer's time as there were multiple clients being juggled. read more

I've never written a review before but my experience here was so bad I downloaded yelp. The first time I went to Mikki I made an appointment with her and got there around 1pm. All I wanted was a dark milk tea style dye which I thought was pretty simple. Upon arrival Mikki made me wait at least an hour and a half just to get started which was my first sign to leave. Once I was finally in the chair I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she barely looked or listened to what I said. I ended up leaving around 8:30pm with nothing that I wanted and paid $450. She made my hair orange. But she told me that I should come back for a "touch up" and it would be very discounted and she would do my fiancés hair for free. I made another appointment with Mikki and today I came back for my touch up. I arrived at 10:40am and I left around 6pm. I have never spent so long at a hair salon and both times took over 7 hours long! I showed her the same picture of what I wanted to get done but this time I went home crying because she made my hair blue. While she was blow drying my hair I brought it up to her that it looked blue and green and she started laughing at me. It was so disrespectful. The only reason why I came back to Naoru is because I thought that Mikki could at least fix her mistake but instead she made it worse and she laughed at me. Not to mention the "discount" she promised me was a free hair cut I didn't want or needed. It was less than a trim. She told me not to pay after today's session and that I have to come back and let her fix it and make me pay then. That seems so unprofessional and manipulative. I do not want to go back at all I do not trust her with my hair. She still says I owe her $400. I wouldn't get paid $400+ to get this service done. Both times I was there I've seen multiple people complain and even leave the shop just because Mikki takes way too long with everything and makes everyone wait. Honestly I should have done the same. Not to mention she made a really awkward scene where she tried to cover my chest for no reason and made a joke about my breasts being too big to my fiancé and my friend who were waiting for her to be done. I wouldn't recommend Naoru to my worst enemies. read more

My son is a senior high school and he's trying to find a good hairdresser that will understand the style that he wanted. We are so happy that we found this salon. The salon is very nice and clean with music playing too. The owner is the one that cut and perm my son's hair and it came out the way that he wanted. Miki is so nice, friendly, and she even gave me hot tea while waiting for my son to finish. After the perm, she made sure that my son understood the post instructions on how to style his hair at home. Miki showed very detailed and repeatedly showing him how to style his hair at home. She didn't rush us to leave even though they're supposed to closed the shop already. I highly recommend this salon to everyone. Miky was super meticulous about making sure the style fit my face shape and cut in a way that is easy to maintain. This is my first time that i want my money back i paid 350+70$ total of 420$ for nothing i came to mikki to do the japanese hair straighten she was very nice giving me the best service. The owner, miki, was super distracted when she was consulting in the beginning, and kept cutting me off. I said I want the "side bang" and she goes "curtain hair!", and would not listen to the details/ see the photos I've prepared. The place was easy to book (no wonder!) on the same day, and she kept saying my hair is in bad condition and upsold the treatment, which didn't make any differences. I got hair perm by Miki 2 years ago when she was operating salon at her home at Saratoga downtown, at that time she was patient and careful. My current hair stylist, also a Japanese, did short hair cut and I loved it, however her salon is at Alameda city and recently I need to do an important biz presentation but I don't have time to drive to Alameda. So I called Miki. I got appointment at 4:30pm and arrived at 4:39pm, she didn't start until 5:10pm. At time she was cutting my hair, she was very rough, first she use a round brush scratched my neck few times when she pushed against, I told her it hurts, she said that was a bad brush, and threw away, then switched to another one, it still hurts, then I found it was because the way she brush through fast and careless. I told her I will have very important meeting, so please make sure to make my hair great style, and I shared pic of my last hair cut from another hairstylist, She said no problem, but used two types of razors almost at whole time to cut, first electrical one to cut short, then comb razor. When I realized what happened, it already too late, my hair had lots of details, volume and layers, now short, less volume and no details. And I found when she cut, EVERY SINGLE TIME when she put comb razor on my hair, she immediately look out to the street, I asked why you are not looking at my hair when you cut, you kept looking out?! She said my car shop told me they are sending a Uber to me at 5:30pm to pick me up! I got really mad, because first she delayed until 5:10pm to cut my hair, and then she planed only 20 mins to cut my hair including time to wash my hair, and she destroyed my hair right before my most important presentation! My hairstylist use scissors, but Miki used razors almost at whole time, and that was mean to cut man's hair, not lady's hair! I feel she is not the Miki I had hair perm 2 years ago, she was very careless and ruined my hair in 20 mins even I emphasized how important is this hair cut to me. She shouldn't touch anybody's hair if she like that! Her mind was not on hair cut at all, she didn't care, and even through she needs to look out to see if Uber arrived, she can look once a while, not EVERY SINGLE TIME when she puts razor on my hair and immidialaty looks out, it looks like already a habit for her to split her attention to something else when she cuts hair and she didn't care my hair!
