Can't call this a new restaurant any more since it opened in 2018 but somehow they keep reinventing themselves. The new outdoor patio is fabulous. The menu is constantly being tweaked, improving on classics with new subtle flavors. Every sandwich is great and the burgers are the best in the area hands down. A must stop! read more

The few times I have been at Neat over the past months, I have not had a bad meal here. I have only dined at the bar area and the service has been friendly and efficient. I like the interior of the whole place, clean restroom, great use of space for diners and a huge bar area with TV screens, perfect for watching any games. The items that I have tried before Neat closed for a few months to change ownership, were the BONE MARROW, which was phenomal; the BULGOGI, RED SNAPPER and PORK BELLY tacos-my favorite was the Pork Belly; and the NEAT BURGER- the duck egg was just as good as the juicy burger patty. The new owner changed up the menu a little bit so sadly, they don't have the Bone Marrow on their specials menu anymore. I've tried the MUSSELS (appetizer), this was amazing; the ITALIAN BURGER, which was delicious; and the SHORT RIB GRILLED CHEESE, this was very satisfying as well. Overall, this is one place that I like going to in this area, for a more laid back yet happy vibe and delicious food. I can only speak for the good service at the bar area although I won't be surprised if they offer the same kind of service at the dining area as well. I am looking forward to try other things on their menu and I am hopeful that they will bring back the bone marrow because if they do, that would be Neat=) read more

We came for a very casual Monday night to watch football. Super cute spot. Love the laid back country feel. Nice bar with a few TV's. Food was good. Had the Ahi Tuna Nachos. I've been here numerous times and they stay pretty consistent. We like sitting in the back bar for drinks and food, having the bartenders suggest new drinks for us. All the bartenders have knowledge about whiskeys and other libations. It never hurts to get to know the bartenders! The food is good, they have a good burger and pulled pork sandwich. Most of the menu is what I would call comfort food. They have their own parking lot, which is nice. read more

Last night we hosted a Dance Team Party at Neat! We spent much time searching for a location that would seat 100 people, stay in our price range of $25-30/person, and was in the Downers Grove/Westmont area. Matt was great to work with. He created a menu that kids and adults enjoyed and made the entire space (except the bar) private for our event for a portion of the evening. We were able to have a Photo Booth and bring in our own cake! It really made the evening special for our guests! All of the employees at Neat were attentive and polite! We look forward to hosting another event there in the future! read more

This place is great. I love supporting an independent neighborhood spot like this over the boring corporate bar and grills. It has a cool interior and gretat music playing in the background. The drinks are fantastic, my go to is the Neat Old Fashioned, but there is a huge variety of creative drinks to choose from as well as a ton of beers. The apps are not the same cookie cutter stuff you see everywhere. The crispy chicken bao buns are really good, a great app to share. The chicken nachos were delicious. I loved the burger I ordered, and the brussel sprouts side was a great addition. I had to fight off my daughter from eating them all. It's great to have an owner like Matt on site who takes pride in his place, it trickles down through the whole staff. read more

Please note this rating is on my experience during COVID. Called to order for pick up. It took me calling twice for someone to answer. They did not have full menu during this time. I ordered the salmon with pico and it was delicious. I highly recommend the salmon. I substituted loaded mashed potatoes and the side was generous portion. I also ordered the buttermilk chicken sandwich. The breading on the sandwich was a little too spicy for me. I ended up pulling it off. That came with fries. (Nothing too special about the fries). During my call to place the order they told me to contact the restaurant upon arrival and they would bring the food out to me. I felt like the wait time was long despite arriving at the time they told me to come. Overall good experience. read more

Tonight the food and entertainment was great! I had the Neat burger ( yum, juicy but no greasy - cooked to perfection) hubs had the Philly steak, still talking about it Alex, our bartender was fabulous and Michael Hayes (entertainer) was so good! I was excited to go here based on the reviews but was underwhelmed. The wait staff was fantastic but the kitchen fell short. My wife's ahi tuna salad was delicious, but my nachos (called out by a star on the menu as a house specialty) fell flat. Small portion, runny white cheese sauce (not melted real cheese) and none of the layered gobs of ingredients that make this dish an eating adventure. My daughter's carne asada tacos looked great but the meat was chewy and lacked flavor. I was hoping for a great meal but found pretty run of the mill quality bar food. Also, if noise bothers you, the bare floors and walls make it tough to hear conversation without raising your voice. read more

This was our first time coming to NEAT Kitchen + Bar and it was very good! From the drinks (highly recommend the winter Elixir), to the food, the service, and the establishment-- we highly recommend! We had their Restaurant Week 3-course dinner options which was very good. We had the soup, short rib/salmon, and crème brûlée. All items were very tasty and you can really taste the freshness in the ingredients. Our server Crystal was amazing and went above and beyond! CULINARY CONSTERNATION I feel like an exasperated parent after finding out their kid was caught spray panting graffiti on the local 7-11......"I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed." Our sad story begins on a Monday night in December, where I met with Jacqueline B and Olivia B for an all-Chicago 'burbs Yelp meeting. Neat Kitchen + Bar was chosen thanks to its centralized location and interesting menu (not to mention its average 4.1* rating). Being very familiar with the downtown Westmont area, I know a few nearby restaurants that ROCK, including Vincitori, Uncle Bub's, and the sensational Amber Café. Because of this, my expectation level was higher than usual for Neat but I still had confidence that they would rise to the occasion. Well, they didn't. When I sat down to join my small party, I finished off what was left of the country ham appetizer ($14) which was little more than a few slices of prosciutto with pickled red onion and grain mustard, accompanied by crispy French bread. There wasn't nearly enough of the French bread for the serving size; what you paid vs. what you actually got was laughable. $14 for an anemic charcuterie board? C'mon guys. There was a decent wine list as well as a good variety of beer in cans and bottles. When it came time to order mains, Olivia B chose the stuffed blue cheese burger, Jacqueline B went with the short rib entree, and I felt adventurous so I ordered the peanut butter burger. Between the 3 of us, there was less than 50% satisfaction overall. I'll start with the best: the short rib entree. The meat was excellently tender and flavorful, accompanied by a lovely parsnip purée. I'm told that the stuffed blue cheese burger was solid but the sweet potato fries were burnt to sh*t! Alarmed, Olivia B asked "uhhh, are these burnt?" to which our cavalier server responded "uh huh, I'll bring you some new ones", which he did. What concerns me is that this dude was fully aware that the fries were way overcooked, like straight up charred.....and he brought them out anyways. I'm beyond stunned that both the kitchen AND our server saw these blackened objects and thought "yeah these are acceptable". They were inedible sticks of nasty and should have NEVER been given to a paying customer in the first place! As for my item, a couple bites into it and my heart sank. Although the $16 burger (!!!) came with grilled pineapple, benton's bacon, shredded lettuce, cilantro, and sriracha with a side of tasty chips, it was a giant pile of let-down. First off, $16 for a burger is steep, and these guys ain't Au Cheval. Secondly, I found/tasted absolutely no trace of the sriracha, a normally very bold condiment. Perplexing. But perhaps the worst part was that the featured topping - peanut butter - was nearly nonexistent. Hiding underneath the top bun was a teeny tiny smear of PB that you could barely discern. If you're going to advertise something as a 'peanut butter burger', then for goodness sake put some motherf*cking PEANUT BUTTER ON IT! You wouldn't sell seafood pasta with 1 shrimp and 1 mussel. You wouldn't sell a pepperoni pizza with two small slices of meat. Dafuq?? Dessert was good, though. The coquito cheesecake ($8) tasted sort of like a candy bar with plenty of coconut and coffee flavor. Sadly the one item that caught our attention was a maraschino chocolate mousse made to look like a Christmas ornament, so naturally they were out. Bread = 3 Circuses = 1.5 The food was hit-and-miss, but the other aspects were misfires galore. Besides being totally flippant, our server would start to address us and then trail off as he walked away. The dining room was way too open and once the holiday decorations come down I imagine the restaurant looks very barren and unwelcoming. Trivia was taking place on one side of the dining room and at times it was far too loud for anyone else to hold a normal conversation. Other various shortcomings included a Christmas garland that kept falling down and a bar area that had terrible feng shui. To top it off, there weren't salt + pepper shakers on ANY of the tables, so you'd have to specifically request for these normally standard seasonings. Their menu shows a lot of promise and I genuinely want to believe that our bad experience was an isolated incident. However, appalling kitchen practices leave me shaking my head in disgust (honestly, someone needs a stern talking-to) and at these disturbingly elevated prices there's zero chance I'll be returning. read more

I miss the old Neat! The old Neat was a vibe - exclusive, sophisticated and decadent. The new Neat is a cheapened, watered down version unfortunately in all aspects: decor, service, food quality, beer offerings, etc. The old Neat's beer menu was extensive: a selection of carefully selected taps and a large bottle/can list. Unless I'm missing something, current beer offerings include a handful of uninteresting, run-of-the-mill taps and bottles. I used to look forward to exploring Neat's beer menu. The food menu is largely the same but execution is poor. My husband and I ordered sandwiches Friday evening. My buttermilk chicken sandwich was flavorless. The battered chicken was unseasoned, the miso mayo had no trace of miso flavor, the charred broccoli slaw was also lacking in seasoning and tasted burnt rather than charred. My husband's steak sandwich was a sloppy mess. Buns on both sandwiches were improperly toasted and basically soggy. Maybe we'll try again but it's not the Neat we knew and loved. read more
