Great bar on the west side. Very cool ambiance, great drink selection and friendly wait staff. Bartenders were super friendly, and patient. One of our group had been raving about this drink for months that we haven't been able to find anywhere... A drink called Tobacco Road. It's a cocktail with Cynar and Mezcal... to me it tastes like a Mezcal old fashioned so I didn't get the hype, but I digress. The point is the bartender had never heard of it, like most other places, but he had the ingredients and patience to make it for us. read more

Came here on a Friday night with a party of 10 people and the bar did a wonderful job accommodating us. We called beforehand and were able to reserve a designated area for our group. The drinks were good and strong, though, they were out of a few ingredients and couldn't make a few of the cocktails on their menu. Came here on a Saturday evening and have been wanting to come for a while after hearing they had happy hour from 5-8 everyday. We arrived around 7:30 and almost all the seating was taken. The place is so dark I almost needed to break out my phone's flashlight feature to view the menu like a grandma. I asked the bartender about the happy hour and they said the old happy hour special ($ off any drink) had been discontinued and instead they had a few happy hour drinks to choose from the chalkboard. The only cocktail on there was an old fashion for $9 and you could choose rye or whiskey. A definite downgrade to the happy hour I came for and the other drinks which were just glasses of wine were not worth ordering. I ended up paying full price to try some craft cocktails which were good, but not good enough to consider ordering more. read more

Ya gotta love Neat. On a stretch of Pico that actually looks tougher than it is, Neat shows up all ready and waiting. I've only been twice, and keep promising myself to swing back over. Still, they are very accommodating and friendly and mighty tasty to boot. So, it comes across as divey, and it sort of is, but in a rather hip, grand way. It's comfortable but not self-consciously so. It just is. And, it's easy to kick back here. Been here for a party, and been here on my lonesome, and it's been a similar welcoming vibe. I appreciate the consistency. And I love how the bartenders are engaged and helpful, and kind of striking to look at -- just a certain flair they carry. I've tried different drinks here, and have confidence in their mixology. Often a movie is on the screen somewhere, and have heard DJs here, too. Fun and chill. read more

Beer & Booze selection was quite exotic, especially the former. You'll pay a little more here per brew but trust me it's worth it. Had one of the BEST German lagers -- Schönramer Gold -- I've ever had. Bartenders were very knowledgeable, please ask them questions about what you're throwin down the gullet and raise your booze IQ. Yo cheap drinks, nice staff and a chill vibe. That works for me after a long week of work. This place, although not in the most bumping of areas, does it right. They have an extensive drink menu and very cozy vibes when hanging out by the bar or at a nearby table. The best part though is the price. Yes you wont be dropping racks on racks to abuse your liver here, you can do it without abusing your wallet too! Hidden gem!!! Anna Marie was our bar tender. She is the best bar tender of all times. She was sooo sweet. Her energy and personality alone earned more than 5 stars. I tried the Schrute farms which had beet infused gin, pomegranate, pineau des charantes and lemon.. this is the best cocktail I've ever tried. I asked Anna Marie for more recommendations. This place is unassumingly fabulous. It is located on a sleepy block across the street from Don Antonio's. Upon entering you are greeted by a dark swanky vibe and I immediately felt comfortable. Although the vibe is casual I have seen some very sexy people here. They have large selection of whiskey's and mezcal. I have been here a few times but the last time was wonderful and has prompted this review. A big thank you to the Owner who graciously let us stay a little longer than usual on a week night. The bar tenders are always friendly and will spend time helping you decide what to get. (Given a little direction and assuming they aren't packed). I am a whiskey girl but I have tried a few of their custom mixed drinks and they were great. Wow - SO glad we found this place!!! It has such a cozy vibe - especially pre-holidays! We truly felt like we had just been transported to a cozy dive bar in the village or Brooklyn circa 2010. Dark and illuminated by candle lights. The bartenders/staff were very nice and accommodating. Only alcohol on the menus, no food. They allowed us to bring in food. Ask in case they changed the rules. There is water that you can get out of a wine barrel. They had Christmas decorations during winter holidays. Once upon a time, there was Liquid Kitty. It was a little bit divey, and a lotta bit dark, complemented by stiff drinks and risqué movies. Liquid Kitty unfortunately closed last summer, leaving many to mourn its loss. However, Neat has recently opened up in its place. In the words of John Cleese: "And now for something completely different." Neat is, to put it simply, a cocktail bar. It serves up both classics and originals with skill and a smile. It's backed up by a serious spirit selection, especially for those who are fond of whiskey or mezcal. The remnants of Liquid Kitty are visible, but the vibe is more relaxed and everything is, well, neater. All in all, it's a definite upgrade. I think what really makes this spot, though, is the service. Everyone in my group was impressed with the friendliness of the staff (including the GM who was bartending), and the personal touches were very much appreciated. Let's be real, a bar can be as hip as it wants to be, but it's the experience that will keep people coming back. And we will definitely be back. This bar is a serious upgrade from Liquid Kitty...I mean don't get me wrong, Liquid Kitty was a cool little dive spot, but this place has a dark sexy chill ambiance. Clean and classy with a very nice, spacious seating arrangement, love it. It's not crowded, in fact, it's pretty empty before 7pm, which makes it a great bar if you actually want to talk to someone. They have a nice secluded area in the back with a red leather seating, perfect if you want some privacy, but all the seats have a nice private feel to them anyway. The bar is cool, and the drinks are good. The bartenders are cool too, but aren't most bartenders pretty cool? That much is to be expected. read more

Formerly Liquid Kitty (which I never been to), the space was taken over as Neat last year. Parking in this area can be somewhat easy if you arrive at a decent time. The meters do end either at 6p or 8p, and even on a Friday, I was able to nail a spot literally a few feet away. Bouncer was very nice so he gave off a good vibe from the start. I met my group at the front of the venue, at the very first table where we had two stools and some of the booth. Now I don't drink mescal (from what I understand, they are known for this) but they appeared to have a great selection behind the bar. No food is served here, but Arsenal is down the same side of the street for that, and a great taco truck run by Paco who was unfortunately off that night we went. The gold picture frames on the ceiling was an interesting touch, and I liked the violet-grey shade of the ceilings, which is a contrast from these bars trying to go all rustic and such. I'm not sure what Liquid Kitty's decor was, but I was told the layout of the place was basically similar. Heading to a side of town I am not too familiar with to meet some people who I am also not too familiar with, so I admit I wasn't really sure if I was looking forward to the evening. I am approaching my last month of being 21 and am still pretty new to the bar scene, so take everything I write with a grain of salt. I had a really good experience here. The ambience was extremely nice with dim lights and a bar section that was literally lit with colorful lights that I enjoyed looking at throughout the night. While here, I had some Red Breast, tried the Bourbon flight, and finally tasted a Boulevardier. Everything was fantastic. The glasses they use are so nice. I want them for my house. I especially liked the flight because, obviously, I had the chance to taste 4 bourbons that I never had before. Also, I had a taste of a 120 proof drink (in the flight) which is something I had never experienced before. It wasn't as strong as I thought it was going to be! The boulevardier was really sweet and not bad but I'm not sure if I would get that from here again. I appreciated that they used the huge square ice cubes to keep the drink cold. When we first got there yesterday (Saturday) around 9 PM, the crowd wasn't overwhelming. All the chairs were taken, so we had to stand at a table, which wasn't bad. After a while of keeping our eyes open, we snagged some lounge seats in the back area which was really nice. When we left around 11, though, things had escalated. Be prepared for this. We had to wait ~ 10 minutes to close the tab and pay due to the high volume of people at the bar. The bartenders were very patient, though, and made sure to acknowledge us while we were waiting. Decor is modern, and exudes an actual 'speaking environment,' meaning you can bring friends or a date here and actually hear what the other person is saying. A bizarre night based on everyone else's reviews experience is likely out of the ordinary but thought it's worth sharing. So we expected happy hour from 5-8 as stated by their sign outside but apparently it's not, it's 5-7.. fine. We order some drinks. Fine. But then things get weird. Bartender shows up for his shift and he must have been off or had some issues of some sort. We watched he and one other bartender get into a dispute and he gave the other bartender the middle finger. The third bartender gets in between the two to calm them down. Professional. Then the bartender over the course of the next thirty minutes spilled a mixer while reaching over for something - mixer starts spilling and flowing toward myself and another guest, I get up quickly and we reach for napkins to clean it up and pick up the mixer. The bar tender must have the slowest reflexes of all time because he mostly stood there. Great. Later, he was mixing drinks for another couple and as he went to pour the drink, he spilled it and again it comes flowing my way! Thank goodness I had already learned exactly where the napkins were so the lady and I cleaned up the drink. Bartender proceeds to make the drink again and the couple were just - no, we don't need it. That was the last straw. We got up and left. Will not be back. read more

I went to Neat this past weekend for a birthday party and I think I found my new favorite LA bar! I love the set up inside with the semi-private space in the back but mainly open space in the main room. While it was crowded inside, it never felt that way because you didn't have to squeeze around a bunch of tables. I can't personally speak for most of the drinks (I'm not able to drink right now), but I was able to get an amazing non-alcoholic drink made for me. They asked what type of flavors I liked (I said citrus) and I got a wonderful lime drink that made me not feel like I was missing out on the fun like I do when I just get water. I'll be back here for sure and hopefully able to try some of the drinks from the menu soon! read more
