What a fantastic bar. Stopped in on a whim tonight after a belated birthday dinner with a friend because I love mezcal, scotch, and everything else they had listed on their menu. Wen and his staff blew me away with their knowledge, inventory, and generosity with their mezcal and scotch selection. They have some insane bottles, batting right along side the likes of Las Perlas, Mezcalero, and La Cuevita but without all the noise and crowds. They spoke at length with us about Oaxaca. The two cocktails we ordered (The Eye-La of the Storm and High Plains Drifter) were fantastic as well. Whisk(e)y fans won't be disappointed either. Their selection was fantastic as well and I'll have to come back to pick through that selection next time. I'm a fan. I've been here a few times for drinks, and they've consistently done a good job with the cocktails. It's definitely on the dive-y/low-key side, but it's fun nonetheless. They do though have live music at least one night out of the week. I was less of a fan of that because the place is small, and the music can get overwhelmingly loud. New favorite joint to enjoy drinks with live music. This used to be a total dive bar, but that is certainly no longer the case. Thursday nights are the way to go. They've got a band playing various tunes which I thoroughly enjoyed. It does make it a little difficult to talk if you're there for conversation, but not impossible. Sit back with one of their MANY options for mezcal or other tasty libation and enjoy the show. Ambiance is definitely intimate and therefore great for a date type of scenario. Lots of high tables and booths, with candles at each arrangement. They also have a happy hour every day which I am definitely going to check out asap. I also had a fantastic experience with their service. My friend requested one of the Mezcal flights that they were out of, so the bartender recommended another. The result was pure joy - this bartender knew his stuff. I also accidentally left my credit card there and called the next day to confirm that they still had it. The phone was answered immediately (sometimes bars are impossible to get a hold of), and the next day I was able to pick up my card with no hassle. Went for the mezcal, stayed for the bartenders. Jamison, Arish(sp) and Isaac treated the 4 of us like family. We decided on the two mezcal flights plus wine and scotch. The flights highlighted 8 different mezcals and was just what I was looking for as I've tried almost every tequila and wanted to taste a variety of mezcals before I started collecting. Our fav, as Jamison figured, was a Madrecuishe. All were good, but some pretty far out there for a mezcal newb, that was the whole point tho. These guys knew all about scotch as well and allowed us to try several before making a final pick. Overall great place, great selection and great service with very knowledgeable staff. Tell me anywhere else you can get a shot of lagavulin 16 for $8 on a regular night. If you play happy hour right, you have multiple great pours at well under $10.
