Call to ask for a product they say hold on and put me on hold for almost 15 min, hang up and call again and they say let me check and put me back on hold for another 10 minutes. Didn't even get the answer if the product was in stock or not. Almost like they didn't want to deal with the phone. Unprofessional and time wasting especially when you're waiting on an answer with a job on hold. Ended up ordering online from Amazon. They gave me the wrong hardener and it ruined my paint job. I asked for a refund or exchange and they said there's nothing they can do. They were extremely rude and showed no accountability. There have been many other times over the years they messed up my orders, like wrong paint colors. The people who help you are not professional and are basically cashiers with no knowledge of bodywork. I've had it with this place. read more

My family refers to me as "The Paint Queen". Unfortunately, I know nothing about car paint. I know a little, but not as much as I know about house paint. There is going to be body work and paint done to a 64 Ford Truck. My husband usually does the car painting but I'm tagging along to try and learn something new. We had some questions about the type of Body Filler to use. You may know it as Bondo. Bondo you can buy at any hardware store. We want nice smooth professional Body Filler. The type we like most is called Rage. There's two different kinds, there's a goopy sloppy kind and a more firm kind that takes a little more time to work with than the goopy. Since we are not in a time crunch we went with the firm. The guy working gave us all of the in n' outs of using the product for our needs. I also have used Rage to fill some wood drawers I was refinishing. It dries amazingly and sands beautifully. Then we had some questions on primers. We got a lot of good information on primers and working times to use them. There is two different ways to go. The Polyester Primer by PPG, that we were recommended, is what I think we will use. We are not to the primer phase yet so we have some time to decide. My husband is really excited and I am excited to get involved with this project. The employees are very knowledgeable and I couldn't recommend a better place for your technical car paint questions. read more

I going to make this one really short. I walked in, barely got a "hi" and then it was like I wasn't even in the store. Lot's of colorful language being used, I was actually taken back considering they were open for business with customers present . So After customer service that was pretty much nonexistent and language that made me feel uncomfortable. I put back what I was holding and walked out. I ended up ordering everything I needed online.. I try to support local business whenever possible, but it's experiences like this that make me question why I even bother. read more

Great store with knowledgeable employees. They carry everything from general automotive paint, custom paint, specialty paint for airbrushing and pinstripping, to general touch up paint. They also carry all the equipment you need as well. My favorite thing they do is they can mix paint to your color code in a spray can. This is great if you can't find something off the shelf that matches your car and it's much higher quality paint than the off the shelf stuff as well. On top of that, they have some really good spray clear. This can save me a bunch of headaches on small parts. I never trusted anything in a can being quality until I tried what they sell. They only reason they don't get 5 stars is that it can be expensive. I understand it isn't a large chain store but I have purchased some "regular" supplies you can buy anywhere and later found I paid way more than I would at the nationwide auto parts store. On flip side, they are so knowledgeable and will give you advice based on your level of skill/comfort level. This is great for me as I am a hobbyist. I feel like I am paying for knowledge, fine with me, but it keeps me from a 5 star rating. I still recommend this place to everyone. read more

Went into Ned's on a dealer's recommendation for touch up paint on a older vehicle. The staff there were very helpful in helping me determine what I needed in order to repair some large blemishes and surface rust on my Subaru. The man helping me came out to take a look at my car and he recommended the products needed to do a good job and nothing more. Didn't try to push any other products that were "extra". Since I had both plastics to paint and metal, he recommended that I purchased only the materials for the metal parts because he explained that plastics are done differently. I have not used the mixed factory paint yet so I do not know whether it matches well to my vehicle but I will update as soon as the job is done. Their prices are very fair and comparable to what you would see with online prices. I would recommend this place for paint and body work advice and supplies! read more

They have the know how, but are often out of stock on everyday items (microfiber towels, etc), also the pricing on some of there products Mostly noticed w meguiar brand are way over retail, list, msrp, etc. example: meguiars new car kit pep boys 18.99 vs neds 27.99 and the Meguiars Clay Bar kit, this is hilarious, Meguiarsdirect.com $18.00 neds 34.99? WTF? meguiar better get on there dealers before this gets out of hand. Good place, just not for off the shelf paint/protect/clean products (there 3m products are very reasonable!) I've been in the automotive business for almost 20 yrs now (service side) at a local car dealership. I've never walked into a supply store that has a staff that makes you feel like a jackass. On their website they make it sound like they welcome "do it yourselfers" Well, when it comes to bodywork I'm a rookie. I had wanted to ask questions about primer options and what would be best in my situation. In short, I've never felt so belittled. I had asked about primers and different brands etc. The counterman basically made it pretty evident based on body language and tone of voice that he had no interest nor desire to help me. So I left and decided to order/call online suppliers. If you're a do-it-yourselfer do not waste your time! Counterman are not very friendly and lastly, yes they have super inflated prices on materials! read more

For anyone reading this -- yes Ned's has a huge book of factory paint mixtures and codes for vintage vehicles. They can even load it into a spray paint can for you. customer service was horrible, I came in looking for a color match for a chip that I had, after being passed around to different people a guy finally started helping me. he went into the back and mixed up a color and brought it out in a spay can and started getting the bill ready for me, I asked for a paper or something I could spray the color on to check if it was right, Well it was way off, not even close, when I told them that I wasn't happy with the mix, that's when everything stopped happening, all of a sudden they were too busy to finish the match right now, I didn't need it right away so I was ok with giving them the time they needed and left my phone number for them to call me when it was complete, a week and a 1/2 later after not getting a call to let me know it was done I stopped by to see if it was ready to pick up, Then I noticed that the color chip was still on the counter right where it was left when I was there last, the girl handed me back the color chip at that point and told me and I quote " the color they mixed up on my last visit was the best that they could do" to me it looked like they didn't even try, and didn't even give me a call so I could find another source, so now when I need the paint, I don't have it, I have to wait for another matching from another company which now I don't have time for.. Walnut Creek Toyota recommended Ned's to me for some custom paint to cover what I thought were deep scratches on my car door from accidentally hitting my garage door frame. Ben examined my car and found that instead of deep scratches, the markings were actually paint deposits left from the garage door frame. He removed them with some solvent, and found other "scratches" which also happened to be paint transfers. He removed these too, and wouldn't charge me anything. I had been prepared to pay for paint; Ben's examination and service saved me this expense and possibly more since a less honest shop might have told me that additional costly work would be required. I appreciate his time and honesty. If my car ever needs any body work in the future, I'll take it to Ned's. read more

Chris was extremely helpful and very cool about recommending supplies based on what I was doing and my experience. I even had an issue on one of my purchases that he was able to fix completely hassle free and provide advice on how I can fix what happened. As a female hobbyist, I really appreciate good customer service from shops like this. Ned's has done right by me just about every time I've gone in there over the last three years, even when I needed guidance on basic stuff. They got me up and running with an old HVLP gun, mixed exactly the right colors, gave me the correct reducer (and didn't try to upsell me), and even gave me tips on how to minimize dust and frosting when I had to do clearcoat on hot days. I was just in there to get a piece to hook up a new airbrush, and they had exactly the right compression fitting, which is more than I can say for the hardware store. I never have to worry about them being impatient or trying to patronize me. The only downside is that they aren't cheap, but I don't expect them to be. As a specialty shop, I expect that they carry stuff they can stand behind, and I'm willing to pay a little more for that recommendation. If you're on a budget, they'll do their best for you, but don't expect sale prices. read more

I went to Pep Boys to buy car paint because I needed to fix my roof side molding since the previous owner didn't take care of the car at all. The worker at Pep Boys told me they didn't have my color, but recommended me over to Ned's. I think I spoke to the owner and he came out to look at my car and told me what to do on fixing it. He was really honest with me. Within 5-10 min. His guys made my paint color and also gave me free sand paper to help me on my project. If regular auto stores don't have your car color I recommend this place! read more
