This most have been the easiest place to go to when I needed a new car battery. As I don't leave the Martinez area, I had to do my shopping around. Yes, I have triple AAA but there cost was well over $300 for my battery and installation. The store itself is pretty small, the battery selection was not that great and the shelves looked a bit empty. Definitely smells like an auto store. I was able to go on to their website and find the battery I needed at the right price. The cost was about $175 with a $20 deposit fee that was returned when I gave them my old battery. Since ordering it online, I thought it would be quicker. When I went to go pick it up, there was a mishap and it took the poor employee forever to find it. He went back in to the warehouse and looked for it, talked to other employees, and come to find out. It was on the shelf of the store..... I could have pulled it. Anyways, don't expect much. Come here for your car parts and leave. They definitely do not have any special parts you may need. They did advise me to head over to the dealership as it may be the only way to get this piece. I do not and have not ever worked for this company. Nor am I a vendor. Nor do I have a personal friend there. That's my preamble. This is how the story goes... Soooo I was driving in Concord to a tutoring session. (I am a private tutor for high school math, English, and science); when an emergency steering light and battery check light appear. Uh oh. Bad news. Almost immediately, my power steering becomes "heavy" and sluggish. It borderline 'freezes' up, and I can barely turn the steering wheel. By the grace of God, I am able to roll to my mechanic, who in turn says I need an alternator. The one I bought about a year ago was failing. This is 5:00ish p.m. on a Friday before SUPER BOWL weekend and Valentines Day. People WANT to leave work. And frankly, this is a Toyota part / Denso (OEM)-- it's supposed to be reliable. My mechanic suggests that I call Monument Auto Parts. I am connected with Alex. Alex finds my invoice and confirms my prior purchase. He then locates the replacement part. Not only does he have one and also a different Monument Auto Part store on Detroit Avenue in Concord (which is minutes away for me). He says I can go to THAT store and exchange it with my bad one. Mind you, this is a Friday evening. But tick tick tick... they close at 6:00 pm. Alex then calls the other store. Sends them the paperwork/ invoice and sets it up with their staff. All I had to do was bring the old (one year old) part. No box. No receipt from me (but remember he found my receipt). My mechanic takes my alternator out. My car is now dead. He then helps me get transportation to the other Monument Auto Parts store. I arrive just before they close. Everything is ready. There is no hassle at all. Silk could not be smoother. No extra charge. No arguing. Alex quarterbacked the process so well. Long story a little less-long... My mechanic put the part in, and I was rolling by 6:45 pm. Amazing. I can not thank Alex and his extended team enough. They are reliable, fast, thorough, and super knowledgeable and dependable. Many other automobile parts stores want your money and nothing else. Alex demonstrated SERVICE, speed, and a balance of exceptional kindness and professionalism. He anticipated what was needed. He is OUTSTANDING. I stopped in the Pacheco store looking for snow chains for my truck. Collin helped me. The inventory was wrong, they didn't actually have them. So he looked at other local stores and found me a pair. I paid for them there so all I had to do was go to the other store and pick them up. Colin was so helpful and nice. So I drove to the Monument store and it was completely different. The three employees were so busy talking they could hardly be bothered with me. I said I was there to pick up some chains and he said "I don't know are you?" The guy slapped my chains up on the desk. I started to look in the bag of cables to be sure it was all there before I got in the snow. He mumbled something at me and walked away. He could not have been less interested in having a customer. Wiper blades, you know how confusing the numbers are and you think you know what to buy, then you stand there and look at the actual product on the wall and you say to yourself "What the hell?". Well, that was me. I walked in thinking I could just pick out the type of blade for my particular vehicle. Nope, they have low grade, mid grade and high grade blades. The line in the store was horrendously long so I took the time to stand there and google what type of blades to buy from their existing stock. I got the number, picked them off the wall and went to stand in line. Easy peasy. When I got to the front I wanted to just buy and get out. The line never shortened. The service rep got my blades asked me what my vehicle was and then made sure it matched. For some reason he walked over the shelf again to make double sure, Im not sure? This was what I was trying to avoid. There is nothing more I hate than wasting time. But whatever, I was right in my choice and confident to buy them and leave. I would not recommend coming in on a Saturday. It was crazy busy. Or come in knowing exactly what you want with all of the information possible to make sure you use your time efficiently. read more

This small local company has lost sight of what customer service is. The door was locked minutes before actual closing time so the young people working could leave asap! They sell a product that only 1 other vender has and that had closed much earlier. When i begged for help telling what i needed they laughed and pointed at the street! After 30 years of paying higher prices and getting good service from the older adult experienced sells associates, It's OVER! The small local company has CHANGED it thinks it can operate like a national company with low paid young no nothings that are NOT smart enough to know where their pay check comes from or why they are there behind the counter. With that said. The national chain let me in at the last minute sold me a part that saved me thousands, after a piece of equipment failed. It was 9pm Saturday night. I'm a tech for a dealership. I use these guys for almost all parts I need when working on friends and family's cars. They have one of the best inventories around. They have experienced people who know about cars, not high school kids working at there first job. their prices usually beat Autozone and O'rielly. They actually do the majority of their business selling to independent shops. The only down side to monument is they close earlier then the chain auto parts stores. Most of their stores stores close at 7pm. Some advice on going there: Go to the Pacheco or Livermore stores. These are where they keep most of their stuff and they're open till 8PM. If you go to the Pacheco store try to use Max or Nick, These two guys are the most knowledgeable (I buy from this place a lot) but anyone there is superior to Kragen/autozone/pepboys. Plan early, because they'll be closed early. read more

Why spend time at a chain's counter where the staff can only look up numbers in the system from some other system? Go to Monument Car Parts and tap their collective experience in parts and cars. Walk in, tell them what you are working on and then tell them what part you need. I needed a oil cartridge filter for a 1953 M38A1 Jeep. Not something you find the in usual catalogs, but with some cross referencing and measuring, we found the right one and we were good to go. I also needed a fuel filter, and brought in the junky chrome one someone previous had put on. They eyeballed it for length, looked at the hose OD/ID and in a minute had an OEM style replacement that was inexpensive and a perfect fit. This was not something in a catalog, but the result of one guys knowledge of their stock, various sizes and probably thousands of fuel filters. (they also had Wix inserts for the chrome and glass one, but . . . ) At the counter, Doug turned my daughter's "boring trip with her father" into a fun filled adventure where she was quickly showing off her knowledge of car repairs! This store is conveniently located off of Pacheco Blvd and Hwy 4, just off of the Interstate 680/Highway 4 interchange in Pacheco. Prices are reasonable, and the customer service is great- far better than anything you'd experience at Kragen or any national chain. Spent the weekend replacing CV joints (comes assembled on drive shafts) on gf's '91 honda civic hatchback. Turns out, the previous owner had swapped in 1990 CRX high-efficiency wheel hubs, and we had no idea. We were stumped about why the wheel-side splines were the wrong size on the new part we had. Hector at Monument was able to figure it out when we brought the old drive shaft in. He actually broke out the calipers, counted the spline teeth, guessed it might be an earlier CRX "high-efficiency" hub, cross-referenced the spline geometry in the computer system (their system has spline-geometry information!!), then let us measure the part ourselves there on the counter. I've come here time and again, and if they can't give you the right part (which they usually can), they will actually think through the problem with you to come up with another solution. The experience behind that counter is invaluable! When I have a tough car problem, I'll drive an hour from Hayward just to come here! read more

CREDIT CARD FRAUD??? I purchased a part over the phone about 3 weeks ago, since it was a phone order I had to give my card number to the clerk over the phone. Yesterday I had a fraudulent Debit charge on my bank account at a local retailer. Coincidence, no way. I am 100% sure the person got my credit card information from this store somehow. Either they did the transaction in front of a customer and wrote the number down allowing the customer to pinch my information or they have an employee stealing credit card numbers. (Luckily my bank is excellent and they immediately reversed the charges.) The good part about Monument, I have a Mini cooper and all of the other auto parts stores don't have Mini specific parts. Monument has always been able to source a part and have it in the next day. The pricing is always much better than the BMW dealers. That is why I shop here. In my experience, the customer service is not as bad as some have said. I would have given 5 stars but because of the credit card theft I they get a 3 of 5, customer information security is a big part of running a business. I plan on going to the Concord store from now on. Hopefully they don't have a security breach there also. And I will definitely not be ordering over the phone. read more

I've been here twice now with the boyfriend. He's been here way more times. He likes it. And he works on cars all the time. Service is pretty friendly. It gets pretty busy here on weekend days, but later in the evening, it quiets down. Employees are knowledgeable and friendly enough. The first time we went, Ward helped the boyfriend spend a good chunk of money on random car parts. When the boy ran out to try a small part out on a car part, Ward asked me what "we" were working on. For the record, it's a 1978 Datsun 280z with a fuel-injected Ford 302 swapped in it. I told this to Ward, hoped that I didn't get the numbers and letters mixed into an impossible combination, and he seemed satisfied with my answer. He even told the boyfriend that he should bring it in when it's all good and running! I like auto/car parts stores where the employees acknowledge my existence, even if I don't know much about...anything. It's friendly! It's human! I like it! Prices are reasonable. Monument is the place to go, period. They have a knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful staff. That is huge for auto parts stores. Other places will often sell you a wrong part for your car, haven't had that happen here, and they even have some surprising stuff in stock and easily available for my '69 bug! I am glad I live close to Monument as I have always gone there for my different cars needs, but would happily drive further if I needed to. Bottom line is they stock quality parts that I trust to put in my cars, and my friends cars, and enjoy the quality of service I get every time I am in there, no matter if my purchase is big or small. My break light went out and I refuse to pay a mechanic to put in a bulb. I decided to go local and try here before I went to a chain like Kragen/O'Reiley. They were nice and helpful however, I was given the wrong thing. I brought my car's book in and given the part. However, it was the wrong bulb. Monument had the right wattage but the wrong male end. Later that night I had to go to Kragen on Monument Blvd. (they weren't helpful either but at least this time I had the bulb in my hand) I wish I did not have to for now I was taking apart my car in the parking lot at the bowling alley at 9pm. Luckily, Mr. Police Officer was driving by and decided to wait while I fixed the car. How nice! I will stop by again sometime and see if they do better. read more

And if they don't have the part your looking for, they will call up some other stores and have one delivered that day if possible. Ontop of the always positive visits I have at this location. I would like to specifically thank one of the crew there named Nick! I believe there is to so for the sake of not know Nicks last name I am speaking of the Bigger Nick! He is the employee I hope to interact with every time I visit. He is knowledge filled and willing to disperse said knowledge. No problems with the shocks and they were cheaper than autozone and O'Reilly down the street Negatives: Had a really annoying experience buying lug nuts from these guys. The fat guy behind the counter took ages looking up the right nuts on the computer and then got them from the back. Later, I found out he gave me the wrong size so had to go back to the store again to exchange them, but they didn't have enough in stock. This past Monday I was waiting in the parking lot of Safeway when I heard a loud noise, then I got out the car and then a loud shotgun sounding blast . BOOM!!@#$ This brand new shock. Blew up. So I called to see if they had MAF in stock for my car. Gave them my auto model year and car type. He checks, and said he has one in stock. Great! But since there are a lot of MAF sensors out there for Porsche, I wanted to make sure it was the right part number. I asked for the part number. His response "we don't do that". Huh? All you have to do is to read back some numbers buddy. So I asked if the part was for cable driven throttle, or the one for e-throttle. Sure enough, it was the wrong kind. I would have totally wasted my time driving over there to pick up the part. I'm not sure if it's the store policy or just a case of lazy employee, but the end result is that I won't be going there anytime soon. read more
