Excellent thin crispy crust, sauce was more sweet than spicy, sausage was excellent, and the mushrooms were canned but still ok. Sweeter sauce and the whole thing could have used another minute in the oven as the crust in the middle wasn't as crisp. (I ended up putting some slices into the oven for a few minutes at 350-But that could also just be my preference.) Overall I feel a 4 out of 5 is appropriate. read more

This really says something about the quality of food they put out and the service that you get. Ordered for pick up at 6:00 and the food was ready by 6:20. I must admit, I grew up on Ned's so I may be biased...but biased by great flavor! I have never dined in, only ordered take out. I always call it in and it is usually just about ready when they say it is. It is packaged well, in foil, as to keep the warmth. I always order sausage, mushroom, onion, cheese pizza with heavy sauce. They have that great ultra thin crispy pizza. It is always so perfect. They have the best garlic bread you can get. read more

The sausage is fresh, there is tons of cheese, sauce cannot compare to any other pizzeria and the crust is always crispy!! .... Ned's Pizza is a Milwaukee institution. They have been in business since 1969. One taste of their pizza, and it's easy to see why they are still in business after all these years. Ned's specializes in the thin crust style of pizza, and they do an amazing job with it. They have several different combinations to choose from for their original pizzas, and they also have a few different specialty pizzas. The pizza is amazing, whether you dine in, carry out, or have it delivered. The restaurant is clean and well-kept, and the staff is very nice. During my most recent visit, one of the owners was working in the kitchen alongside his staff. I was very impressed by that. He also was very nice to my husband, father in law, and myself. I have been eating Ned's Pizza for years! Ever since I can remember, my dad's side of the family would pick up Ned's Pizza for family get-togethers by my grandma and grandpa's house. Ned's was my grandpa's favorite, and now I have to say it is definitely mine as well! My fiance's family also happens to really like Ned's, so I was extremely happy when they would order it! Plus, they introduced me to my new favorite pie from Ned's - the Perfecta. It may not be printed on the menu, but it is basically an everything but anchovies pizza. So good! Glad I stopped in here! From the outside, it looks like a hole-in-the-wall between chipotle (awesome) and gamestop (awesome). When you're on the same drag as Mazos and Leon's, you know you're in for a possible treat. The place was surprisingly busy on a weekday night, which is typically a good sign. We were seated in approximately 15 minutes and ordered a pretty loaded pie. Ned's does thin crust sweet justice. The sauce is peppy and wonderful. The toppings were plentiful and delicious (especially the pepperoni - good God the pepperoni...) Pricing was a hair higher than I would have liked to have paid, but other than that, it was all good. Is it the best pizza in Milwaukee? Time will tell - I'm going to try them all, eventually :) On a side note, they could use a seating area expansion - pretty cramped - but still a good experience. read more

There's just something about a proper pizzeria. Maybe it's the smell when you walk in. Maybe it's the quintessential red cups. Maybe it's the square slices. This is a great cozy little place. I love the proverbial "pizza joint" atmosphere in there. We came with a large party and had to wait a while to get seats. Since it's such a little place, we had to wait for a couple parties to leave so they could push some tables together. It was well worth the wait. The thin St. Louis style crust was crispy through the whole pizza. The sauce was very flavorful, with a little hint of sweetness. It definitely made the pizza unique from other thin crust styles. My father is very particular about his dining out choices, and they're typically oriented more towards fast food options. There is one exception to this, and it's the pizza served at Ned's, a place that has been in my family longer than I've been alive. Because I've grown up with it, I took it for granted for so many years, and didn't realize until after leaving Milwaukee that not every pizzeria can make as good of a pie as Ned's, as I have discovered through traveling to various parts of the country over the past six years. Ned's is the quintessential Midwest-style pizzeria with a tender cracker crust and typically sporting a tavern cut into squares or rectangles for a crowd, but the killer aspect of the place is the heavily spiced sauce, so good that there are two additional options for the red stuff on the menu - extra for free of charge, and a drowning of the pie for those willing to shell out a couple of bucks. It holds its own against the bevy of pepperoni, sausage, black olives, onions, and mushrooms that my father insists on getting, but aside from a distaste for black olives and a disappointment in the use of canned mushrooms, I don't really mind. I'm usually a pepperoni guy, but that sausage is pretty good, too. I imagine that 27th Street has changed quite a bit over the past half century that Ned's has been standing, but their steadfast resilience is a testament to their quality and loyal fanbase. I've almost definitely eaten at this restaurant more often than any other restaurant in my life, and I'm proud of it - it's my standard for this style of pizza, it's one I have every time I return to Milwaukee, and it's an important memory of home. read more

I liked Neds, and the regular thin crust pizza was perfect. The staff here are super friendly and fun, and will go out of the way to help you. This place has a nice big parking lot and while we get take out, the have a dine in section as well. I have always loved the traditional topping regular pizzas for the great sauce, and thin crusts. We tried a gourmet "specialty" pizzas which was less than expected. Regular pizza: Near perfect. Cheese and red sauce and thin crust were excellent. Very happy with this version of the standard pizza pie. This is a go-to place in Milwaukee for a great old fashioned pizza, and Ned's never fails to please. Specialty pizza: Margarita. This was less great. The pizza came with giant hard tomato slices. These are fine for subs, but for a specialty pizza without red sauce, I want to see some roma, cherry, or heirloom tomatoes with real flavor. The cheese was ok. A mix of mozzarella and Romano or something else would have been better, and there was too much cheese. Again, sometimes less is more. Less is not more when it comes to fresh basil. There was not much at all, and when fresh basil is a key ingredient, I expect a lot of it. The sauce - olive oil, spices, and garlic - was perfect. The heavy cheese and heavy tomatoes meant that the great thin crust was soggy. This pizza would have been better well done. It could have used another 5 minutes in our oven at home to make the crust crispy. If they bump it up a notch (I'd even pay more) these specialty pizzas could be better. For now I would stick with the standard thin crust for Ned's. read more

Incredible pizza. They just don't make it like this in Kansas City. It's a long time family tradition to dine at Ned's Pizza when the whole family gets together. Their Italian sausage is awesome, the crust is perfectly crisp, and their sauce has a sweet, but not too sweet, robust flavor. Service has always been generally good and welcoming to our large parties. Only problem...the place is super small, and so is the parking lot. I guess they do a lot of take out orders, but that's never quite as good when it's fresh out of the pizza oven. Because the service and pizza are always great, I have to give it 5 stars even if the wait can be painstakingly long sometimes and parking is bad...it's always worth it. It was 8pm and they told us they'd give us a 15% discount bc we waited so long. They then told us we'd have to leave bc the 15% discount was for dine out orders of 3 or more pizzas. I was born in 'Stallis and was brought up going to a lot of South Side establishments - so I'm very familiar with Ned's. I don't get here as much as I'd like to anymore now that I live on the East Side, but it's a great little place. It has a very "south side" feel to it - in a good way. It's small and personal and old school. I've had many a thin crust pizzas there and they've always been tasty. They also have the good ol' red glasses that I think should be required at all pizza restaurants. Their sauce has a little sweetness to it and I think that's what makes it special. They don't use fresh mushrooms - so if you're a mushroom pizza guy like me - take that into consideration. That is my only complaint. Wow! I am surprised these people are still in business. Do not try orderimg here if you are expecting ANY kind of customer service, a good deal or a pizza that isnt LOADED with salt! The girl answering the phone was incredibly rude! She hung up on us before we could finish answering our questions. Thr only reason we still went a picked the pizza up is because we are new to the area and trying to find a new pizza home. I figured with that kind of attitude...MAYBE the pizza was delicious. Neds is hands down the best pizza in town! I will go nowhere else for my pizza! It's also nice that the onions and green peppers are no charge! The crust is thin, the sauce is not too sweet, alittle more tangy (and you can have extra...), and the staff is very friendly! The same people have been working there for ever, which I like. My last visit was a major disappointment. I called in a pick up order at 5:45 and was told 45 minutes. I was in the door at the correct time, paid and waited. About 20 minutes later a customer returned a wrong pizza. I can only guess that it was my pizza. While I waited I talked with other people, small talk but we were all delayed 20 to 30 minutes. I ended up asking about my order at 7:10 and was told two minutes . I finally got the order at 7:15, one and a half hours when I was told 45 minutes. An explanation or apology would have been nice, but I got " Happy holidays, drive carefully, do you have our coupon book for next year? " I do not think I will be going back, most places you can enter and eat in 45 minutes or at least get an explanation. read more

My favorite combo is sausage, mushrooms, onion and black onion...but all that I've tried are good. We ordered 5 pizzas and it was great they put them all in a carry out box, included plates, silverware and napkins at no additional costs. Wow, completely unassuming strip-mall hideaway that's been around on 27th Street since 1969 and only five minutes from our house! The online rave reviews finally pulled us in and made us believers. Six of us ordered a 16-inch cheese and sausage, a 16-inch cheese, sausage, mushroom and black olive, and a 14 inch-chicken, tomato and pineapple. The flavors in the sauce and sausage blew us away. The thin crispy crust was perfect, although a bit dry and "crackery" to some. The amount of cheese was just right. The specialty pizza was enjoyed by the those who wanted something unique, but off-the-mark for those in love with traditional flavors. At roughly $20 each, the pies were in line with comparable prices elsewhere. Seating is limited (perhaps 40), the décor dated and humble, but on a Saturday night, you better have reservations or the will to wait a half hour. Service is great! Pick-ups, whether for pre-baked or fully-baked, were much in demand. We had a hard time with ratings, all of us insisting that the pizza was somewhere between a 9.5 and a 10! Definitely a runner-up if not a candidate for best pizza in Milwaukee. You go Ned's! read more
