I went to the newly remolded Negril, it was very clean, looked good, service was fantastic. The food not sure what happened, the jerk chicken wasn't spicy, the curry chicken tasted watered down not much flavor, needed more seasonings. It didn't taste like the genuine Jamaican food that it use to be. I was disappointed. The chef is definitely stuffing on the seasonings. Not sure who's preparing the food, but it should be by a actual Jamaican chef. read more

Okay I went to get some chicken soup or stew for an older woman in the community that I was told had the flu. I of course got myself one just to make sure it was up to par! I dropped off her soup and went back to my office. When I finally got home and tried this soup I was amazed at the flavors and the heat that the soup still had after hours in my car. This of course is not my first time at Negril. It's around the corner from my office so I've tried the wings and plantains in the past. All the food is good. I've been to Jamaica a few times but I don't think any restaurant in America can ever really give you that being on the island taste and feel. It's a great imitation if you have a hankering for Jamaican food. I would give them one more star but they are sometimes aloof and slow. read more

I haven't been to a Negril in years. I actually thought they were closed. Anyway, I ordered the jerk wing platter along with a beef patty. Everything came out quick and piping hot. The patty was very fresh and flaky. I finished that in the car. The wings were so tender that they fell right off the bone. They also weren't spicy so that was a plus. However, rice and peas were a little bland so I put the curry sauce on it they provided for whatever reason(guess they knew I would need It). The cabbage(the little that I received) was alright, nothing to rave about. I did like the fact that It was a separate dining area. I'd visit again if I'm ever in the area again. read more

Negril's food is good. It's not the best but it's pretty decent. My complaint is they need to come up with a better system for serving food. The wait time is ridiculous. Every-time I order (& I've been here multiple times) I'm waiting for 30+ minutes and my orders are always small. The first couple of times I had grace but It's very frustrating because I want to support them but they're too chill with their urgency to get customers their orders in a timely manner. The last time I went I had to ask what was the wait time on my order and then they gave me my food, SMH! Terrible service, rude cashier. So I walk in after not eating here for over 6 yrs. I approach the counter and smiled at the cashier he looked at me as if I did not exist and said without a smile what do you want. He ignored me 2 x to many he couldnt remember what I ordered. I tried giving him a warm smile to ease his mind from a stressful day..but i thought no matter what When you are in a customer service position you must always remain calm and present yourself in the most professional manner ever in front of customers. This is a nice Jamaican restaurant. Yet another establishment in Silver Spring that makes the community so unique and diverse. I've gotten the Shrimp Curry, Beef Patty, and the Jerk Chicken Sandwich. All of them were tasty! Every time I go, I always get some cocoa bread. It's always fresh and hot. It's good as a side or dessert. Some items, such as the Jerk Chicken Sandwich, are made with cocoa bread. I usually order online through their website so it's ready for me when I arrive. They also have a dining area to your immediate left when you enter the restaurant. The dining area was clean enough for me to feel comfortable eating my food in there. If you're craving affordable and good quality Jamaican cuisine, I recommend giving this place a try. I usually spend less than $10 on my entire order. It's a hidden gem. Literally... it's on a side street that makes it kind of hidden. It's right by the intersection of Georgia Ave. and Thayer Ave. Their large yellow sign will eventually grab your attention. read more

The jerk chicken was dry, I ordered extra sauce/gravy on the side. They sent curry gravy and jerk seasoning... Same thing when I ordered stew, and I wasn't loving the curry. Not really sure what their issue is with sending the matching gravy and sauce but idk who they think wants to eat curry gravy with stew chicken/jerk chicken/oxtail. I'm nowhere near a Jamaican food expert but y'all, these oxtails are so good it makes me wanna slap my ... YOUR mama. They are tender and tasty and savory and pair perfectly with the rice and sautéed cabbage. But they're pricey. The Jamaican beef patty had a nice kick and that dough sure is flakey. Next time I'll get more than one. I also tried the chicken curry and it was fine. Not bad but also not nearly as good as the oxtail. It just ... was. Portion was big though so if you can handle a lot of food, that's the order for you. I threw in some sweet fried plantains for balance and it's hard for a place to get those wrong. Everything that I have ever gotten here is extremely flavorful. You definitely get your money's worth here since the portion sizes are quite big. The service is extremely fast. I straight up adore Negril, and this Negril in particular. I love everything about it, from the fried plantains to the cranky lady behind the counter. Everything, and I do mean everything, I've had at Negril has been good, but for lunch I find it is really, really hard to beat the Jerk Chicken sandwich. For $3.25-- yes, you did read that right-- you get a soft sweet roll piled with excellent jerk chicken, lettuce and sauce. It is happiness wrapped in a foil package, and it leaves you money left over for a Kola Champagne to wash it down. If you want to upscale it a bit you can never go wrong with their oxtail, goat (roti or curry) or escoveitched red snapper. Their plantains are freshly cooked and plentiful to an order, and their beef patties are warm and spicy. The line is *always* out the door at lunchtime, and with good reason-- the food rocks. The service is counter, but they do have a cute little dining room available. Don't get mad if the cashier is cranky, she's been that way for years, and if sometimes you have to ask the counter folks if your order is ready, well, that's just how it can be. If you're taking to go they've just opened a separate "to go only" store two doors down for basics like sandwiches, beef patties, plantains and cookies, making the experience somewhat more efficient. read more
