We have eaten here many times with no major problems. Last night was a different story. We ordered the Italian sandwich and half a house salid. We noticed the owner/manager was not in the store and the other employees were gathered in the back and not doing anything. This was also irritating several other customers waiting for their food. Stopped in for some pizza after playing the par 3 course and got there just in time to beat the rush. The pizza is decent. The way to go at Neighborhood Pizza is to get a thin crust pie. Ever since the new ownership has taken over, the quality of food and service has suffered. Almost every time I get pizza there (which won't happen anymore) I get terrible service. Case in point I waited 40 minutes for a pan pizza the other night because one of the employees forgot to put my order in the system. The salad was delivery promptly it was lettuce tomato and a generous amount of grated cheese ( cheddar and mozzarella). All the ingredients were fresh. We went for the first time last night. I've heard a lot about this place and we were near the restaurant for a soccer game. First, you order at the front counter. The younger boy that was trying to take orders just couldn't keep up. They finally subbed him out for a more experienced lady. The pizza is just not good. It had a lot of toppings, but the conveyor oven is over cooking the cheese on top. Even to the point where the pepperoni burned on the edges. We ordered the thin crust. Honestly, I think Tony's frozen grocery store crusts are better. The crust was not cooked on the bottom. They should consider cutting the thin crust Chicago style. It could be the crust they buy is not designed for that type of oven. I was impressed with the different types of combo pizzas they offer. Sorry, just not good food. We won't be back. read more

This is the only thing holding them back, as I am a huge fan of hand-tossed crusts (do not like "new york" or "st. louis" style), which seems to be a rarity in locally-owned pizza joints nowadays. I've been to Neighborhood Pizza Cafe a few times and while I don't necessarily dislike it, it's not top-of-mind when I think about where I could get a tasty slice of 'za in SGF. I almost feel bad holding this viewpoint when Neighborhood has been the Pizza Bowl champ for a zillion years in a row now, but my opinions is what they is. Apart from the location being about as far north as I've ever been while still in Springfield city limits, I always instantly feel like the aesthetic is welcoming, uber-friendly, and the type of place where you could easily be on a first-name basis with the staff if you come around enough. Both times I've visited, the staff has been a cheery, humble bunch. I came in last week with family and, I believe, mistakenly ordered a weaker menu item. Don't get me wrong, I'm a strong proponent of the idea that every menu item should be a strong menu item if it's going to be offered up at all, but the more I delved into my taco pizza, the more I felt like I'd made a huge mistake. It was LOADED with black olives (which I picked at to even the score), and the lettuce and tomato was just sitting on the top and subsequently slid right off every time I picked up a slice. It was a disappointing meal and I found myself wishing I'd tackled a pepperoni or something instead. That being said, taco pizzas are SO DANG GOOD when they're done right. I guess my point here is that Neighborhood definitely seems to live up to its namesake of being welcoming, friendly, and family-oriented. Because of the aesthetic, I think I need to just come back and give something else a try to affirm that this little eatery is deserving of true 'za approval. read more

Ok, it only took me 2 visits to find my "fave" at this place. It's a perfect lunch spot and very reasonable! I get the personal-sized pizza with a drink special for right at $5 and add a tasty garden salad for a buck fifty more- great with the house (french-style) dressing. They pretty much cater to whatever you like so I'll just share "my" preference: bacon, spinach and chicken with "white" sauce. They have all the traditional topping options too, as well as the usual tomatoey pizza sauce. They have larger meal-sized salads, sandwiches (haven't tried them, but they looked tasty) and the NICEST bunch of ladies running the place (no offense to any possible male employees, I just haven't ever seen one there on my lunch break). Get there early (11am) for lunch because the few tables they do have fill up fast; however they also turn over quickly so don't fret if you have to stand while they make your order; chances are good that by the time it's ready (10 minutes tops) someone will be headed back to work and you can have a seat and enjoy your fresh, hot made-to-order perfectly-sized (and priced) pizza. Yum! *I have to qualify my selection of "No" on "waiter service"; you order and pay at the counter when you come in, you get your own drink, find your seat and then they'll serve you your food as soon as it's ready. Used to be one of my favorite lunch stops. Had a daily special around $6 that included a drink. New owner took over several months ago and jacked up prices around $2 on just about everything. Food still tastes great, but be prepared to drop close to $10 now with taxes, and pay for anything extra you ask for.
