Updating my review to a 5 given the excellent service and focus on quality this past round! We got mostly nigiri: -toro (solid) -Tasmanian trout -scallop (brown butter, the best scallop I've had at any sushi spot) -fluke (this was not ordered, but was provided for free and a cute nod to a "screwup" when I had to unfortunately send back one of the nigiri that did not sit right in my stomach) -snow crab (fantastic) Other items: -spicy tuna rolls (for my fish hating friend.. he loved it so much he got another) -ginger salad (delicious, can't go wrong here) -miso soup (easy go)

Came for lunch for the first time! It was easy to make a reservation the same day on a weekday. The entrance is actually in the back where there's also a small parking lot, which is always a plus in downtown Austin! They have lunch combos that include choice of tea and soup. I like the green tea and miso soup. Sushi tastes good and is fresh. I especially like the kakigori dessert. It's pretty unique with three condensed milk flavors and ginger ice cream in the middle. Service was really fast! I'm surprised our server remembered everything we ordered without writing it down and was able to give great recommendations. Our stomachs were full and satisfied.

I finally got to trying neighborhood sushi! Everything was extremely fresh and tasty. The vibe inside is very cute and moody which I loved. It's cool that the chefs are all kinda standing in the middle of the restaurant making the sushi for you to see. My one note is I think it's overpriced. $19 for a spicy tuna roll feels insane to me. The food is good don't get me wrong but not sure I understand what makes it so much more expensive compared to other spicy tuna rolls around Austin. Overall glad I got to finally try this place!

4.3/5 I thought the small plate dishes were creative. We ordered one of their specials that the waitress recommended and had no idea that we would get served baby crabs! The flavor was okay but I wasn't a big fan of it because their claws made it a bit difficult to eat. My friend enjoyed it though. Their nigiri was okay. Rice a bit more on the vinegary side. The fish pieces could've been a bit more generous. I really loved their hand rolls though! Perfectly flavored and had delicious garnishes, although the seaweed could've been a bit crispier. The Wagyu roll also stood out to me! It had that perfect sweet and savory flavor. Good service. No complaint. Very cute romantic vibes inside. Good for a date night. This place was a bit difficult to find. It was nice that they have their own parking lot though but it can get filled up fast on a busy weekend. Overall, I would come back if I'm near downtown. Probably one of the better places around that area.

It was okay. The atmosphere is good. I like the vibe once you get in to this place. I'm not a big fan of the door being right off the back parking lot. I remember this place being so much better in the past. Not a lot of selections when it comes to rolls. I was hoping to get the chirashi, but I was told it isn't offered on the weekend. We ordered the collar and found it to be kinda small and over priced. Ordered a Diet Coke and it came in a tiny bottle. My daughter ordered a regular Coke and got a full sized bottle. Not really sure what that was about. Nothing really wowed us and I found that disappointing.

Neighborhood Sushi is incredibly special to us, it's where I took my now fiancé on our first date and where we celebrated her most recent birthday. It couldn't have been a better choice either time. The yellowfin tartare is exceptionally fresh and beautifully balanced, the brown butter scallop is rich and perfectly tender (the surprise star of the show), and the fatty salmon just melts in your mouth. Honestly, it's hard to single anything out because literally everything on the menu is spot on. The quality across the board is exceptional, with pristine fish and thoughtful preparation that shows real respect for the craft. Quality is consistently outstanding, the service is warm and attentive, and as a traditional sushi restaurant, it truly stands out in an omakase saturated market. A real winner, already fantasizing about my next visit.

I thought Neighborhood sushi had fish that was fresh and good quality but nothing that special worth the price on the menu. Portion sizes were pretty small but it was easy to order extra items and they still came out pretty quickly. I came for a graduation dinner celebration with my parents and it was easy enough to make reservations and find street parking nearby. Service was friendly without being overbearing and they cleared off empty plates quickly.

A fun sushi speakeasy with fun vibes! I heard you can't enter in through the street, you have to enter through the unlabeled door in the back. The majority of the seating is either at booths or at the sushi bar. The lighting and vibes inside are quite nice - not pretentious, but still elevated. It took a while for our server to take our order after the first time she checked in with us, but the food came out surprisingly fast. We ordered: - Birds Nest Salad ($11) - loved the crunch and texture, would definitely recommend - Jumbo Gulf Shrimp Tempura ($14) - a little wild to think that you're paying $7 for one piece of big shrimp (it only comes with 2 pieces), but the flavor was good and the batter was different than other tempuras I've had - Seaweed Salad ($7) - not gonna lie I think this is the tastiest seaweed salad I've ever had - Spicy Tuna Roll - typically spicy tuna rolls at restaurants consist of ground up tuna but this was whole pieces of tuna which I really enjoyed. There is a decent amount of parking in the back of the restaurant, where the speakeasy entrance is!

Cool speakeasy vibe and perfect for a date night! I really enjoyed my experience but just know what you are getting when you go. The sushi is great quality, but you can definitely find similar for a more affordable price. We ended up ordering more after we placed our first order because we were still hungry. It is smaller portions and pretty expensive. This place is more about the ambiance overall and I thought the service was good. I'd go back for drinks and some apps but probably not full dinner. My ratings of my dishes are below. Baja bass yakitori - 10/10, great cook on this and the black garlic soy sauce was the perfect glaze. We also loved the side of pickled shishito and tomato. Yellowtail belly nigiri - 7/10, good not great but just because of my personal preference not the quality. I prefer just regular yellowtail Eggplant nigiri - 10/10, this was so simple and yet surprisingly flavorful and we wished we had gotten more King salmon nigiri - 10/10, great quality fish Salmon avocado hand roll - 6/10, too much going on with this couldn't really taste the quality of the fish Snow crab hand roll - 10/10, so good! Crab was perfect in this Spicy tuna roll - 9/10, good spice and fresh roll. A little small though for the price Baja bass nigiri - 10/10, we ended up ordering this later on because we liked the appetizer so much and wanted more of the bass. Definitely our favorite fish of the night. Buttery texture and so flavorful

Always a favorite sushi spot in austin!! We got seated in a back area I had never been in before which was awesome. They constantly had servers checking in on us and being attentive! Service was great and drinks/food were amazing of course. Fluke roll was probably my favorite and is one of my favorite rolls in austin. I got the Red Dragon drink and it was like a spicy fruity Moscow mule, sooo good!

I had been thoroughly impressed by this place several years ago with wonderful but our last visit was quite underwhelming. Some items like the tempura were good but the Hamachi collar at $24 felt totally overpriced and dry, and the 3 rolls we tried were very average, think all you can eat quality level, not $20 per roll level. They fill them with things other than fish and the taste is just so average, even the rice wasn't cooked all the way. $300 later and our group of 3 people left totally unimpressed. Not again.

Amazing service. The eggplant sushi was so good. The yellowtail was amazing! Great environment

Very cool spot. Perfect for date night as it's very dark and intimate. It reminded me of a speakeasy. Forewarning: they are SERIOUS about the dim lighting. An employee (very politely) told me that they do not allow extra lighting equipment (such as a selfie light), so I did not get the most aesthetic picture of my sushi. If you like to document your food, this is definitely something to keep in mind! The food was super solid. The edamame had an amazing flavor. I dipped my sushi in the juice and it was amazing. My spicy tuna was good (was not very spicy tho). It didn't blow my socks off, but it was definitely quality.

We also had the BBQ eel which was delicious (a bit pricey for 3-4 small pieces for $18, but it is cooked SO well). We had the charred edamame which does have beef in it (take note vegetarians -- there aren't a lot of veggie only dishes on the menu), and the taiyaki cornbread (excellent flavor and texture). We did get the hippie bone marrow (it's eggplant!) and the Kinoko mushroom for our vegetarian friend and she really liked both it even though she's not big into mushrooms (the kinoko has a strong umami flavor, it's quite meat-like actually). We got the hot pocketz too which are brisket based; they were very cheesy (smoked gouda) -- good flavor but the brisket isn't strong. My coworkers also tried one of their specials which is essentially a Japanese "famed dish" -- it's squid marinated in it's own guts. I tried the tiniest piece and it was one of the most abhorrent things I've had -- it was SO salty and kind of sour. I like fried squid but this was nothing like that; def would not recommend but if you like to try weird things, go for it. We also got several drinks -- the Match painkiller and Puff puff pass (serves 2 people) are both absolutely delightful! Very fruity/tiki-like. Someone else got the grapefruit sour which is basically Shochu in a glass that comes with a fresh half of grapefruit and a juicer you can prep yourself! Overall -- I like Kemuri a lot. The food is a little high for the portion sizes, but it's a solid place to go with friends/coworkers and share things so you can try a lot. Because things come out like it courses, you can easily get full without overeating. And the drinks are great! It's a more casual place inside, but you could still have a nice/fun date night here.
