How I love thee. There is something about Neiman's that makes my heart swoon. Part nostalgia, as my favorite aunt took me here years ago to buy my holiday dress. That said, I do love their clothing selection. It is small and tight; which means there isn't a bunch of garbage to sort through before finding gems. I had purchased Chanel pants in December , it was charge send, pants turned out to be not the style I wanted. They advertise free shipments and free returns. in January I followed the returns link on their website. final step was printing a label, it was from USPS. Took me about an hour to drive to post office, stand in line and go back. Label was not payed.. 3 days ago I had called their customer service with request for reimbursement. After only 3-4 back and forth calls which took another 30 min of my time,, they informed me there is a number to call for returns, we had find out theirs system is not processing credit cards and "they working on it" apparently Neiman Marcus IT department in the ages computers were just invented. The beauty department peeps are wonderfully helpful and will bend over backwards to get you whatever product your greedy little hands and heart desire. Make sure you get your makeup fix at the Chanel counter and you'll feel like royalty. The rest of the store is immaculate and the prices are really extreme but for many of the items, worth it. My only slight irritation is that some of the sales persons will give you the staredown before they decide to strut their stuff over to you to see if you need some help--but only if you look like you're going to drop several hundo on something. read more

Ah Needless markup. Their service is always top of the line, the sales associates are polite but give me room to breathe. My dog is allowed there. And since they dont take any card but American Express, you better believe, what you need is there. This weekend, I went on a lipstick bings and as always, the sales rep for YSL, was very polite, personable and helpful without the fussiness -- considering, i always know what I want. I have been searching for just the right Chanel handbag for a very long time. I have been to both the stand-alone Chanel boutique and the one at Neiman Marcus in Chicago several times over the past few years. Although the staff at both locations are very friendly and helpful, I was most impressed with Michael at the Neiman Marcus location. He went above and beyond to ensure I did not have to pay a dollar more than needed as I was from out of state and saved sale tax and shipped it free. I also think that the Neiman location had a better selection of the newer styles than the stand alone Chanel boutique. I highly recommend Neiman for your Chanel purchases. read more

I only come here when I have to. That is if what I am looking for isn't available at Saks, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, or even Barneys. I don't like the stuffy feeling I get here. I feel watched the entire time I'm in the cos, handbag, or clothing departments. I know they just want to be attentive, but it's very annoying to me. However, the shoe salon there is completely different. I literally have to flag someone to get noticed. The sales reps here walk around in circles without even looking my way. I also find one of the sales rep here fake and patronizing as he calls every single women "young lady," even if they are like 90. He also skips and hops to anyone in a fur coat. Updating my review because my fiancé recently purchased his Tom Ford tuxedo here for our wedding reception in Chicago. He refuses to wear anyone else for the event. I would've been more than happy to plan a trip to NYC to shop (and eat, haha!) for his tuxedo but alas, we didn't have to, bummer for me. Too busy until the wedding to do weekend trips to NYC, so it'll have to wait until after June/July. Headed back there for some more Tom Ford items for a daytime suit for our wedding in France (waiting for the winter & resort items to clear out a bit to make room for the spring/summer lines). I really like this branch of Neiman Marcus. Whenever I go there someone is always willing and able to help me no matter what outfit I have on. There's a lot to be said for that as I find often people will pay no attention to me whatsoever if I'm dressed in jeans and a boring t-shirt (even if they are a fancy brand of jeans the store sells). I have been known to dress up to go to fancy stores just to have people pay attention to me, but I don't have that problem here. The staff is always friendly with me and eager to help me if I need it. I was able to successfully put a dress on hold while I was in MI for two and a half days, a practice you won't find most places. When I came to pick it up, they had it ready to go with the tag on it to be sure nobody would give it away. They don't mind that I'm picky, which is fantastic because usually when I go I'm looking for a really good piece that speaks to me (lol, I know) so I sometimes try on a million things and take forever to decide what I want. When they have their big sales you can find really good discounts, which is super awesome. I love having their NM card because even if I don't take it with me, I just have to give them a little bit of information and they can look it up and put whatever I'm purchasing on it anyway. *UPDATE* 11/7/08 I wish I could make my review 3.5 stars instead of 4, but I can't. So my new rating is a 3.5. I went there yesterday for their private sale, and while there were helpful people in my usual department, I was completely ignored in the shoes department. Let me tell you, my outfit did not matter to them, even if the retail total was around $1,500 (yeah yeah, I know, it's a lot). NONE of them would even look at me, despite me being there browsing the shoe dept for 20 minutes or so. It was like I didn't exist. How rude! It sounds dumb, but I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. She looked like she had no money, so she was ignored despite the fact that he gave her a ton to spend in stores. I may not have looked like I had NO money, but I apparently looked like I didn't have enough. So, word to the wise: a Kate Spade bag, Ferragamo heels, BCBG Runway coat, and 7 for All Mankind jeans will get you nowhere in shoes. You'll have to dress fancier than that. read more

I came in here and just started to look around and I had a clerk help me, she found me so many amazing outfits, I couldn't afford to buy all of them, but I bought 2...one was left in Chicago at the hotel :(. Ordered my jumbo Chanel bag from Neiman's. Sold out everyone and the minute there was stock in a warehouse in Dallas, I got a phone call from the sales team. Ordered immediately - however didn't get a confirmation or shipping information until the next business day. For such a hot purse, I wanted to know if I got it or not! I am so impressed with the custom service at Neiman's on Michigan Ave. Specifically, Lauren and Laura in formal dresses. I went in there desperately looking for a dress that I want to wear for my wedding and they didn't have it on hand. A very rude receptionist told me that they couldn't get it for me and then two AWESOME women intervened and said they would do whatever it takes to get me this dress (including calling the designer and asking him to custom make it for me). They ended up finding me the dress and I am going in for a fitting next week. They have been amazing and I couldn't be happier. Hopefully, the dress fits :) read more

I've had bad and not-as-bad experiences at this location in several departments. Chanel, certain cosmetics counters, the Cusp section, and lingerie are ALL bad because the associates either seem to care more about chatting with each other or look down on you because you're in there browsing trying to look for something, but don't happen to look like their typical fancy schmancy, dog-carrying customer who's probably already spent $$$$. How would they know I wasn't there to actually look for something to purchase, but because of the bad experience would rather buy elsewhere? read more

This review is specific to the saleswoman at Jo Malone fragrance, slightly heavy-set with dark, straight shoulder-length hair, and in general for NM departments. While mildly pleasant, she was dismissive of my business--which she should not be if I am spending this amount of money--passes me off to another sales associate (which okay, maybe she was busy but...it was the manner...), and then even as I try to make conversation, trying to be positive and friendly--since perhaps she is having a bad day and I do not want to add to her stress--she is still dismissive and proceeds to throw together my order haphazardly, junky bow/sloppy ribbon and packaging, as if I am asking for something special (which I am not since packaging is Jo Malone signature). There are others at NM who are nice--Barbara, a manager, and the lovely lady from Acqua di Parma--but I always have this feeling of desperation from the other salespeople at NM. They are so stressed out that they can hardly be kind and then that affects their ability to sell. I imagine there is a lot of turnover there--I have seen it--because the store simply does not know how to take care of their employees and in turn, the employees--especially the new ones--do not know how to take care of their customers. I know that NM is fancy-pants so expect a certain level of snobbishness to maintain their brand, but if I am a regular customer, at a certain point, I do want to be welcomed and appreciated. If you want real quality care--especially for for Jo Malone fragrance--go to Bloomingdale's and see Maria. She is lovely, so kind and friendly, and always makes sure to treat everyone in a special way. I always feel so good about my purchases because of what a beautiful person she is on every level; she makes the shopping experience wonderful. read more

But then, the next day I looked at my account and I had been charged $9.95 by NM. When I called I was informed that it was a charge for a shipping label, but they would be happy to take it off. There are one or two in each department that are normal and not annoying, but the rest are really irritating. I ordered the Lana Mega Blake necklace twice online and twice received earrings. The second time I returned the earrings here, the associate told me she had the necklace in the store so I was able to purchase at this location. However, I was supposed to receive a $200 gift card with the purchase, which I never did. It was an online special they were running when I originally purchased the necklace. They were supposed to request an exception and I was supposed to get the gift card. This was the only reason I purchased the necklace from Neiman Marcus and not elsewhere. $200 is a good chunk of money. I don't think I'll ever return to this store. Go to Nordstroms, they have a much better return policy anyway. read more
