Complete hidden gem deep in the east bay. Tucked inside a plaza near the streets of Brentwood, Neko sushi has some of the best sushi I've had in a couple years. Every roll I tried was impressive and robust with flavors. The 2 rolls that stood out to me the most by far though were the mango roll and the spicy roll with cheese. The edamame was tasty as well. I would only critique the drink selection as it was very limited but I'm just nitpicking at this point. I 100% recommend this place for any sushi lovers out there. A+ read more

One of the better sushi offerings near Brentwood for sure, but it wasn't spectacular. As a group, we got a variety of hand rolls and specialty rolls plus dessert To-Go. Unfortunately, the plastic packaging was very brittle and it broke when we were trying the pull the snap apart, which scratched me. There was also no chopsticks or napkins included, so it's very bare bones. The Iron Man was very good but we expected more spice than it delivered (e.g. maybe some thinly sliced jalapenos on top would've improved that?) The philly, California, and Cali crunch were all as expected and pretty good. The major disappointment was that the mango cheesecake slice was still frozen when we received it. The order was delivered very quickly so that's a bonus. We might try some other rolls another time and overall a solid option if you're craving sushi out here in the tri delta. read more

I visited Neko Sushi in Brentwood last night while in town with my family. I had pretty high hopes based on the great reviews, and while the food didn't quite hit the mark for me, it was still a pleasant dinner overall. We tried the ankimo, agedashi tofu, baked scallop roll, sushi taco, and the 49er roll. Everything was okay, but a bit milder in flavor than I'm used to. The ankimo in particular didn't taste as fresh as versions I've had elsewhere, but nothing was bad -- just a little underwhelming. On the positive side, the staff was friendly and the restaurant had a clean, comfortable atmosphere, which made for an easy, relaxed meal. Neko Sushi may not have been my personal favorite, but it's a decent spot if you're looking for a simple, casual sushi outing. read more

This is a great sushi restaurant. As a matter of fact, this is now my favorite sushi restaurant in the area. My wife and I really like the quality and taste of their rolls. I am a huge fan of their sushi pizza which is a mix of spicy tuna and crabmeat topped with this crispy tempura nori and drizzled with this sweet and spicy sauce. Each bite is crispy and full of tuna flavor. I've had a lot of different sushi rolls in my life and this one in particular is different and special. I never had anything like it. I also love their Caterpillar roll; eel with avo. This roll is common, but they make it really good here. Another interesting and delicious roll is the Mango Crunch; Spicy tuna, salmon, and fresh mango slices with unagi sauce. This roll is sweet and savory, all in one. The sushi chef really takes his time crafting each roll. Our order does take time because everything is made fresh and from scratch. We ordered gyoza and they are stingy with the sauce. We ordered regular steamed rice and they gave sushi rice, it was for our 5 year old and she did not like it. The service while we were there waiting was rude, someone has helped and told us our order would be out but the someone came back after in a rude way asking what we needed and we said pick up order and the person said it was already there for us, we waited 10 minutes. Neko Sushi has been in the same location for many years. As it should be; I remembered how yummy, aesthetically pleasing, and substantial their rolls were. It has a nice ambiance inside with little trinkets of neko of course. I was craving for some bento and came back here at Neko Sushi a few days back. The price was reasonable with the usual selection. I chose the Pork Tonkatsu, Tempura, Sashimi combo. We did not wait too long for our food to come. The salad that came with the meal was amazing. Their sauce is made in-house and I think its one of the best salads out there. Bento itself was unfortunately mid at best. Tonkatsu was really on the thin side and the sashimi was just alright. We stopped by for a Togo order yesterday to get their lunch bento boxes. My son likes to eat here because the first time we went they made him feel comfortable with their ingredient knowledge since he needs to avoid garlic & onion due to his allergies. The 3 item bento boxes are now $18.95, however I did get a $2 fee for double chicken katsu on one plate that I didn't know about until after reading my receipt. Had I known there was an additional fee I would of picked a different item. So this may be helpful for someone since it is not listed on their menu. Onto the food - We love getting the miso soup starter (without green onions for my son), I feel like it wouldn't be a complete bento box without it. We all get the chicken katsu as an option, perfectly crunchy and always consistent (no garlic, no onion). The California rolls always taste freshly made, the sushi also tastes fresh and tender. Their salad dressing is so craveable and I wish I could eat it everyday. It may be simple salad dressing but I have yet to find it elsewhere. My husband also enjoys the spicy chicken and gets it every time. Also totally random - If you love cats you'll enjoy the scenery. They have tons of cat decorations & pictures all over the restaurant. We loved our dinner here. My husband raved about the omikase (not sure of spelling). It was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. My spider taco was yummy, with a nice crisp shell. Only drawback was that it was hard to take a bite that included everything as the crab sat on top of the shell, not inside. I ate it separately which did not impact my enjoyment of the dish. I really wanted something spicy, so I inquired about what spicy Tonkotsu, but they kinda werent able to accommodate me, so I ordered a basic bowl of Tonkotsu. It was fair as far as flavor. I moved to the valley about 8 years ago and still haven't found a good sushi place. A few weeks ago I was doing errands in Brentwood with no kids. My husband and I were hungry and honestly, just picked the first sushi spot that came up for us that was the closest. We have been so accustomed to mediocre sushi that we stopped being picky. We were just happy to eat sushi (our kids hate it). We showed up during lunch time the first time. We took advantage of their lunch menu. I ordered the sushi lunch special which came with 5 pieces of sushi and 1 California roll. My husband ordered the 2 piece Bento box: salmon teriyaki and California roll. We decided to also order a scallop shooter and a almon belly nigiri, along with the 49er roll When the plates arrived, I was immediately impressed by how thick the fish was. Salmon, Tuna, Hamachi, Mackerel, Albacore were the 5 pieces assorted to me. All were amazingly fresh and delicious. I also enjoyed the California roll. It was just the perfect amount of mayo and crab. The scallop shooter was such a nice surprise. In addition to the many pieces of scallop in there, it had masago, a quail egg floater, AND uni! For $10 each, I would say that it was well worth it. It definitely is a mouthful, but delicious. As for the salmon belly, what a treat! You can taste how fresh and fatty it is. I honestly dream about it. They put fresh wasabi on top and they sear the top juuuuust slightly, enough to give a little smoke taste. If I could, I'd probably order 10. I do feel that $12 for 2 pieces is also fair, especially for the quality. My husband also enjoyed his teriyaki salmon, he mentioned it could've been a bit bigger, but the flavor was good. The roll was also delicious. Perfect ratio of fish, rice, & toppings. We came back a 2nd time because I could not stop thinking about it. We decided to come for dinner and we splurged. We had faith and decided to try many items on their special's list for the day. We ordered salmon belly, hamachi belly, omakase, scallop shooter, ankimo, & salmon/tuna tartare. Lucky for us, the omakase which is 9 pieces also included some additional specials like the O-toro & albacore belly. Looking back, I think ordering the omakase as a personal item vs sharing would've been a better idea. Especially if you want to try all the specials, the price is roughly the same cost. We enjoyed every piece, so getting duplicates of items was more than welcomed. I would say that the salmon belly is a must, along with the ankimo (monk fish liver), and the hamachi belly. Take my advice, order the omakase for yourself. Try all the different nigiri and savor each bite. This place is about 25 mins from us, but it's definitely worth the drive! Green Garden roll ($17.50) was our favorite because of the combination of refreshing cucumber and delicious fish. Oakley roll ($16.50) was also our favorite because of the real crabmeat and variety of seafood topping. Raider roll ($15.50) was very good, just heavy since it was fried and saucy. Great combination of seafood flavors. Peach sake ($12) came in a cute bottle and was sweet & refreshing. We also ordered a salmon teriyaki plate ($18.95) because my mom doesn't like sushi. The fillet came with rice & a side salad. She said the salmon was tender and perfectly cooked. Everyone here was so nice and patient with us since it took awhile to decide. Friday afternoon. We were looking to relax with a good lunch and without the need to drive too far for it. Happenstance ! I looked into Yelp for some local suggestions and we quickly settled down on Neko Sushi. And Boy! Was it a great choice. Not a very big space, but could see it was a busy lunch time with clientele, dine-in and to-go being served briskly and loud byes and thank you's at the door. We got ourselves a 2 seater against a quieter wall and settled down to have our lunch. First thing that caught my eye was the fantastic and not too costly pricing of most items ! And when the dishes we ordered arrived we could top quality ingredients and seafood and made by experienced and artistic hands. We ordered the edamame(my fav) and gyoza as appetizers.Wife went the "Happy Hour" Special Sushi Roll while I ordered the Sashimi Lunch Special. Photos may hardly do justice to the beautiful plating but we both swore that these were the freshest and most tasty dishes we have had in Brentwood. We also ordered a bottle of sparkling Peach Soju and made this meal one of the most memorable meals since we moved to Brentwood. And all this without breaking the bank! Delicious, fresh, good service. Mother in law and I just stopped there for lunch. She got the bento box with teriyaki beef, rice and mixed tempura. I got the lunch sushi deal with 5 piece nigiri and California roll. We both got miso soup and salad. The salad dressing was some of the best we've had at any Japanese restaurant. The tempura was crispy, flavorful and each piece was very generous. Mom liked the teriyaki beef. My sushi was very fresh. The hamachi melted in my mouth. The restaurant is not very big, but it was clean and decorated nicely. The staff was very friendly, attentive and quick. My parents and I all got the two items Bento and here is what we had: Pork katsu with tempura Bento: katsu was crunchy, had the perfect amount of meat, not all breading, the tempura was good. You really cannot go wrong with tempura 49er roll: Crabmeat, eel, avocado, top with salmon lemon slices..this was good but the slices of lemon would have been better if they were thinner Salmon and California roll Bento: my mom had this, the salmon portion was small but she said they cooked it well. It was chewy but melted on your mouth. The California roll also had a lot of meat inside and a thin layer of rice which made it worth the price Chicken teriyaki and California roll: my dad got this, he said the chicken was tender and the sauce was good too Hamachi kama: this was yummy. I love me some kama and this was done well. With a little smokey taste they did a fine job. I will definitely go back for lunch and maybe try some of their special next time. Visited Neko sushi for the second time and it didn't disappoint! The restaurant itself is so cute and definitely loves up to its name "Neko" (cat in Japanese) as it is covered in cute cat figures and pictures. The servers themselves are very kind and attentive. We got the dinner combo with the chicken teriyaki and mixed tempura. The chicken teriyaki was juicy with lots of sauce and the shrimp and seasonal tempura was crispy and went along nicely with the provided sauce. We also ordered the chirashi don, which came with multiple cuts of fish and a generous portion of sushi rice. The fish were fresh and quite large! The Neko roll included crunchy soft shell crab inside the roll and eel with unagi sauce on top. It was very flavorful and definitely filling. Finally, the negihama roll was delicious yet simple with yummy yellowtail and a crisp nori exterior. We had such a good experience and highly recommend for those in the Brentwood area! read more

Got sushi here earlier today for dinner for to-go. I got the California Hand-Roll, Tempura Shrimp Hand-Roll, & a spicy scallop roll. First off, I had eaten the spicy scallop roll. At first, due to my error, I realized I had ordered the wrong thing. I thought it was a baked scallop roll, but I had eaten it anyway. I have never had raw scallops before, so I was worried my stomach would act up. Writing this review 14 hours later, I can say my stomach is fine! The Spicy Scallop Roll was decent. I feel like it needed more spice & a little more flavor, but it wasn't bad. Dipped it in a bit of soy sauce & it made the experience better, of course. The Shrimp Tempura Hand-Roll was great! It was full of flavor, tempura shrimp was cooked well & crispy. The sauce in the roll was a little sweet and complimented the roll very well. The rice was good consistency, I can't complain about this roll! Lastly, I had the California Hand-Roll. Typical California roll, yes, but full of flavor! It was actually my favorite roll out of the 3. They packed in lots of the imitation crab meat which was tons of flavor, dipped it in some soy sauce & it was devoured quick, almost choked on it!
