This was our first time at this restaurant and it was great. The ambience is much calmer and nicer than some other places in the area. We came expecting Izakaya type dishes along with sushi. We were pleasantly surprised by the Thai options, Ramen menu, appetizers, and Sushi. It's like a dream menu for me. My favorite was the pineapple fried rice, followed very closely by the chicken satay appetizer. My daughter loved the California Roll and I was happy they use real crab in it. First time trying We ordered: Chicken massaman curry (4/5) Pad Thai (3/5) Orange Chicken (1/5) California Roll (4/5) Teriyaki Chicken (3.5/5) Food was OK. The Curry was easily mine and my wife's favorite. Orange chicken was not liked by any of us unfortunately, it was dry and tasted oily + overcooked. Did not taste any orange flavor at all. Both the younger boys love orange chicken and didn't eat more than 2 bites, very disappointing as this and the teriyaki were for them. Pad Thai was OK just not much flavor. I have always loved Kyuzou! I've been here many times and each experience has always been wonderful. The sushi was perfectly presented as always, with excellent taste. The service was delightful as always, with very kind waiters, and chefs. The ambiance was quiet, calm, and relaxing My only caveat this time; I believe they changed the seaweed they used, it was quite chewy and thick, I couldn't eat through it, please consider using a different seaweed! We've been to Kyuzou several times now and I can't believe I haven't done a review for them yet! Immediately one of my favorite sushi spots when I first moved to Brentwood a few years ago. It's a great location, plenty of parking, nice sized dining area and they are also on DoorDash! We prefer dining in but it's nice to have the option for delivery. One of my favorites is the Brentwood PD roll since I'm a big fan of spicy tuna and unagi. Definitely a must-try if you come here. But you can't go wrong with any roll on the menu. We've been here a few times now, and WOW.... this place has seriously leveled up into something special. They recently updated their menu and it absolutely shows. The new Thai offerings are legit,,, ya, like VERY legit. We came in for a late lunch with a group of four, and everyone found something they loved (always a good sign). The orange chicken, tom kha soup, and pineapple fried rice were all dialed in full flavor, perfectly cooked, no misses. On the sushi side, the nigiri was super fresh and the Super Dynamite Roll was straight fire. Service was great too, she was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience easy and enjoyable. This is for a Door Dash order last night. We had chicken fried rice, chicken stir fry with veggies and crispy veggie rolls. The positive was that there was plenty of food. The negative was the quality of the dishes was poor. The egg rolls were over cooked. The fried rice and the chicken in it was very dry. The chicken stir fry was just ok. Veggies were over cooked. The overall bill came to close to $60. We ate some because we were hungry but we threw away the leftovers. We haven't tried the sushi. Not sure we will based on our experience. read more

This was our first time trying this location and everything about it was really good. The ambiance is very settle, simple but cute. Me and my husband both got dinner entrees; he got the salmon and I got the steak. Both were really good and was not expecting it to be as presentable and cooked perfectly. We also got their garlic edamame and the flavors on those were addicting to my husband. He ended up scooping some of the flavors from the edamame and ate it with his rice - LOL. We also got the nigiri and to be honest, the quality was really great. The belly of the tuna was really buttery and wish we ordered more, but then we wouldn't be able to eat our main entrees. Went to Kyuzou for dinner tonight, haven't been in a while (over a year for sure). I like how the inside is cozy and a bit small. Decorated very cute. Our server was with us soon after looking over the menu which was great. I ordered a matcha IPA which I was excited to try, along with our food and appetizer. Service was a little slow after we ordered - took maybe 15 minutes for the matcha IPA to come out. Got the Korean wings appetizer and miso soup shortly after that. My husband got his teriyaki chicken dinner about 10 minutes before my chirashi bowl came out, and he was almost done eating by the time I got mine. This didn't really bother me tonight since it was just he and I eating but if we were with our kids and their food came out late this would've been a bigger annoyance. My chirashi bowl was super good, it had lots of sashimi and pickled vegetables which I love. I would definitely get it again. My husband said he liked his teriyaki chicken as well. We both thought the Korean wings were delicious - a little spice but not overpowering, nice flavored sauce. The total for our meal was about $80, that was for the teriyaki chicken, chirashi bowl, one appetizer, one beer, and a side of miso soup. Seemed a little expensive, but it was good. read more

Was needing a sushi fix and had not had a chance to go here. Came in, just me...party of one. Decided to sit at the sushi bar. I received a dinner menu and a drink menu. I scanned the menu looking for my favorite roll...some places call it a 49'r roll. I call it a salmon roll with tiny slices of lemon on top. They did not have either listed but they prepared a delicious Rainbow Roll along either the salmon that I requested. I also had a very nice cup of miso soup and a small bowl of edamame. I really have to say this is one of the top sushi restaurants in town from just the way they make their Nigiri. We came here twice, first time was told their yakitori chef was on vacation so they couldn't make it. We tried a couple of yakitoris - chicken thigh meat which were tasty although the serving portion was small. We also had the Hamachi avocado appetizer and the Alicia rule. Been back a few times since my last review.... and overall great. Went a few months ago and the server was new I believe and was frazzled, but everything else is amazing. Their sashimi and nigiri is what sets them apart from other sushi locally. The Toro Fatty Tuna sashimi is maybe the best pieces of fish I've ever had, and the Maguro Blue fin tuna was pretty damn amazing too. Overall this is my top 1 or 2 sushi locally. Looking for a good place to get lunch while our trip to cherry picking in Brentwood on Wednesday afternoon. Order lunch sushi combo for myself with California roll that comes with chef's choice of sashimi and nigiri. All the fishes tastes great and fresh with a good quality. The tempura and lion king were also ok. The problem was with my entree. I ordered the pork belly. Typically served on skewers other places but this was braised, a big chunk served with egg. I tried to cut the pork but it was beyond tough. The waited was prompt to order a replacement. But that left me with just the appetizer while waiting. The replacement came out sliced in smaller pieces. The sauce was delicious but the pork was at least 20 + minutes from being tender. Again tougher than the first. I informed the waiter and he said he would inform the cooks. But did not offer anything else in place so we paid and I went home with no real entree. I went home without eating an entree. I wish we just ordered 2 more wagyu skewers which were tender and flavor filled. read more

There's nothing worse than going to lunch to get away from the office and it being more stressful than work! My coworker and I walked in and there was only one table of two finishing up. You'd think that would mean we'd get pretty stellar service since we were the only ones dining in. NOPE. We both got the bento box. She ordered the chicken teriyaki with spicy tuna roll. I ordered the chicken katsu with three piece sashimi. It took 25 minutes to get our order, and when it finally arrived, mine was wrong. I let the server know I ordered chicken katsu, not chicken teriyaki. No apologies, he just took the entire bento box back to the kitchen, where I'm assuming the katsu was then made since another 15 minutes passed. Could I at least have the rest of my food while the chicken was remade? My coworker ate alone while I sat there. We asked for my order to be packed to go, as we were now late to get back to the office. Abysmally slow, non-friendly service. It was as if WE were an inconvenience as patrons! Food: My coworker's spicy tuna rolls were super fishy (I tried one when I was waiting for my food.). She commented they tasted "old". My sashimi was also super fishy. The chicken katsu was fatty. I don't usually write bad reviews, especially for small businesses, but I had such a poor experience here that I feel compelled to share. We used to enjoy coming to Kyuzou whenever we were in the Antioch/Brentwood area, but after our most recent visit, we won't be returning. The issues started small: the server forgot my drink, which we had to remind her about - no big deal at first. But then things went downhill. We were served the wrong roll, and when I pointed it out, she double-checked her order book and insisted I had ordered it which I did not. Later, she brought us the bill before our last roll came out. When we asked about it, she admitted she forgot to write it down. She checked her book again and apologized, but by then, it was frustrating. One mistake is understandable, but multiple errors, especially when the restaurant wasn't even busy, made for a really disappointing experience. I also overheard the table next to us getting the wrong roll and receiving a free one to make up for it, so clearly this isn't a one-off issue. I really hope they take the time to improve their service and train staff better, but sadly, we won't be back. read more

This place was a little hard to find! Right next to Edibles around the corner and across from Chianti. This is a small lightly dimmed restaurant perhaps making it a more intimate vibe. The seafood salad was really good and tasty. The toro, fatty tuna were fresh, decent size and pleasing to my mouth. The unagi was flavored and good too. The hamachi Kama was cooked perfectly and came as a meal with side of rice, seaweed salad and also miso soup which was very flavorful I liked it a lot. The French kiss roll which is lobster baked with white sauce. Definitely an interesting roll so if your a bit daring take a bite. When the sushi chef makes simple sushi rolls well, they're running a good sushi restaurant! I came to Kyuzou on a very hot day looking for some light eats for lunch. After the waiter sat me down with some water, I ordered the kappa roll and the California roll. When the rolls came on stylish stone plates, I could tell that Kyuzou was here to deliver! You know I had to take a picture. The cucumber was fresh, and the crab and avocado were light and creamy. The rolls held together well, and the ginger was refreshing.
