Breakfast is my favorite meal and the main reason I go out to a restaurant is to eat something I won't prepare at home. I'm sorry to say that I was very disappointed at Nellie's this morning. We were promptly seated, friendly staff, and a bottomless cup of coffee. There is an extensive breakfast selection. However, I ordered one of my favorites: Classic Eggs Benedict. My companion ordered the Bananas Foster French Toast. His dish came (loaded with whipped cream on top). He scraped it off and enjoyed this sweet, sticky concoction. Some may like runny eggs....I don't! In fact, the sight of a runny yoke almost nauseates me. So I always tell the waiter I need my eggs poached hard. Twice my dish came out with runny yokes, and twice the waitress apologized profusely. In the meantime, my companion was almost finished with his breakfast and I had had 4 cups of coffee. To make this long story short....on the third try she came back with scrambled eggs on top of a small piece of ham and English muffin with a little bit of Hollandaise sauce. The hash browns I had requested as "crispy" where slightly brown. When the check came, we fully expected for my meal to be comped because of the long wait, and wrong order.....it wasn't! I believe in giving restaurants two chances. We'll see how they do next time. read more

Had a great breakfast Saturday morning. Got there at 6:00 when they opened to beat the crowds. Had the steak skillet with pancakes. That's a meal! It was delicious . Tons more I want to try on the menu. The waitress continuously filled our coffee. A new restaurant great for Newburgh. read more

Had to wait 30 minutes to sit...10 minutes to get waited on. The people that sat 5 minutes after us, got waited on and was able to order long before our order was put in. The order was wrong and the food was sub par for the wait(s) we had. Price has gone up since we last visited, which has been a while. Great service, but the food is just OK. Eggs florentine were cooked well but came to the table cold and served on a super soggy English muffin. The dish was served with fruit, which looked like it had been sitting out for quite a while. My boyfriend ordered his favorite breakfast: biscuits and gravy. He orders this nearly every time we go out for breakfast, so he considers himself an expert in the field of biscuit goodness and gravy greatness. By default, this also makes me something of a connoisseur, since I am entitled to girlfriend samples of whatever he orders. The biscuits here are not good. The texture is not flaky at all...they are decidedly dense and doughy. They don't have any flavor besides flour. The gravy is also flavorless. I didn't even really taste much salt, which I'm pretty sure is a cardinal gravy sin. read more

My Boyfriend and I stopped here to eat breakfast and we were informed they were having a "water main break" and were no longer serving food and they were closing, but here's the funny part of this story...there was a line of patrons who all happen to be caucasian and had no idea of this semi-serious issue, but my boyfriend and I who happen to be African American and the only African Americans who were in the establishment from what I can tell were the only 2 informed of this. Nellies recently started staying open for dinner. This is our favorite breakfast spot. 3 of us had the fried chicken. It was fantastic. Very reasonably priced. One of our group had the gyro. It was huge . She said it was also very good. Our waitress was also great. We definitely have a new dinner spot! read more

We LOVE Nellies! My husband and I come here every single week. We call it "Nellie Monday's" but occasionally something comes up and we have to come on a Tuesday The food here is amazing and super cheap for the huge portions you get. The service is so fast and the staff is always super friendly. I always get the Farmer's Breakfast because it's a little of everything and it's all delicious. My husband usually gets the Farm Boy Skillet but today wasn't feeling breakfast so he got the Ribeye Steak sandwich and won't quit talking about how great it was! We've never ever had a bad experience here and highly recommend everyone try it! read more

The next improvement is the temperature control. There are many people and the kitchen is open, it is understandable that temp control can be hard. But, it can be done! Another improvement opportunity is their hash brown. When they rush for orders, they do not come crispy, mostly mushy and still raw. Need improvement! The staff were very attentive, probably 8 servers working, and every one of them stopped by to check on me and to top off my coffee. Wow!!!! First time trying Nellie's...amazing!!! We visited on a Sunday morning and they were packed but we waited less than 5 minutes to be seated. Our server was phenomenal!! I hope this review helps families and friends of loved ones in Deaconess Hospital. My wife and I have been going to all of the chain restaurants for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the days we don't stay at the hospital. Today we went to Newburgh and happened upon this place. While it is not impressive on the outside, the food, service, cleanliness, and price more than made up for it on the inside! The employees were polite and efficient, but they were all working hard and making sure every customer had a great experience. Not a lot of chit chat unless you engaged them first. The food was delicious (chicken and waffles and Cajun chicken salad for us) but they have a wide array of lunch items including 1/2 pound burgers, soups, salads, and sandwiches. Their breakfast menu is available all day and looked amazing! If you ever need a place for a fast, delicious meal, do yourself a favor and drive 2.1 miles from the hospital and eat here.
