We came here because it was closer than going to the one in Raleigh. The food was good and service was decent however we felt the one in Raleigh was better. Not sure if the quality of food was just fresher or what. The setting of the place is nice, corner of the building and has a nice central location in downtown Durham. There are super mixed reviews for this place so let me start by saying we placed a take out order while in downtown Durham, having a very specific craving for something on the fresher, healthier side. My husband ordered the large grilled chicken pita pocket, and I chose the veggie lasagna plate with black bean salad and pomegranate salad. The food was ready before the promised time. When I walked in the restaurant was very clean and not too busy. It stayed fresh till we got home, and we really enjoyed our selections. The optional pita that came with the plate was the only thing I didn't really love, but it was fine. Craving some good vegetarian/vegan options and Mediterranean is usually my go to for this. I checked out their menu online and I decided to head inside to look at what they offer. The restaurant was busy for a Monday afternoon around lunchtime. It's beautifully decorated inside with bright lights, velvet couches and plenty of indoor seating. I went for the Pick 4 platter where I get to pick 4 sides. I had a look around at what options they had, I felt slightly rushed by the employee. I picked the cilantro, jalapeno hummus, the butternut chickpea salad, baba ganoush, and the mujadarah. I was a little confused about why my order took so long to prepare, as it is cafeteria style, with all of the food already laid out, ready to serve or scoop into a box. I only ordered prepared sides, no meat or anything that needed to be cooked, but I still had to stand around for more than 20 minutes before it was ready. When I went to pay, the cashier forgot about me after I swiped my card, and I had to wait there awkwardly until she saw me five minutes later and ran back to finish ringing me up. I wish I could say all of this was worth it for the tasty lunch I was about to have, but the food fell just as flat as the customer service. The baba ganoush was bitter, a sign of too many seeds from the eggplant. The cilantro jalapeno hummus was decent, but there was zero spice. The mujadarah was probably my favorite, although the crispy onions that are popular in this dish were soggy and I found the rice to be a little mushy. The pita was a weird sort of whole wheat flavor and I found it stale. The butternut chickpea salad was little more than just 99% chickpeas, 1% butternut squash and onions. The kabobs weren't fresh. It were pre-cooked and tasted like it's been sitting around for a while. I was a disappointed, especially because the price point didn't match the quality. I ordered the Neomonde plate which was supposed to be hummus, baba ghanouj, tabouli, labneh, and grape leaves. First off, there was no labneh. No warning that they were out, just left off the plate entirely. In its place was a double helping of tabouli that was downright inedible due to how much acid or vinegar was in it. This was great! I have visited the Neomande location in Morrisville and always loved it, so I was very excited when they opened a location in downtown Durham. My sister and i got lunch here before a DPAC matinee. It was empty when we got there at 11:30, but within an hour the place had filled up. I got the plate with 3 sides- ratatouille, baba ghanoush and grape leaves. Everything was fantastic and the portions were very generous! I also tried a piece of orange white chocolate baklava, which was very good. My coworker and I hit up Neomonde for a "get me outta here!" lunch escape. It was my first time trying it and I was a fan. I went for the Pita Pocket Plate - lamb and beef shawarma with orzo salad and falafel as the sides, and choclava as my baklava selection. Falafel was super, and the shawarma was delicious - I love the pickled veggies. Orzo was fine, as orzo tends to be. I have no feelings about the choclava other than that it was fun to say "choclava." Portions are plentiful and served quickly, though the line was a bit confusing to me as a novice, as others have said. The dining area is crowded, but table space is plentiful - you aren't forced to be all up in your table buddy's area. This is one of those places that slaps on a fountain drink and suddenly your lunch bill is $92 so be forewarned. However, I would not complain about my expensive-ass fountain drink AND throw another star at them if they had Coke Freestyle because Coke Freestyle is the single greatest invention of the 21st century and I stand by that claim. read more

They also have a lot of fun baklava flavors...I ended up going with the cinnamon roll, which was really yummy! The baklava that comes with the meal is very tiny...just a small bite size sample. I only rated them 3 stars because the staff seemed a bit disorganized. Everyone was pleasant and very nice, but I felt like they were all over the place, even when it wasn't busy (only a few other tables were occupied). I ordered a meal that came with the baklava...being that it was my first visit here, I just figured they would give me a plain one. When my food arrived at the table, I didn't have the baklava. One staff member came by to clear our plates, and I mentioned that I had not received my baklava...he said he would get it for me, but then must have forgotten. The food that was on display looked so good that it really made it hard to narrow down my choices. I ended up getting the lasagna plate which came with two sides. The chicken skewer pita pocket wasn't bad but the chicken was dry. As far as the pricing goes, it's a wee bit ridiculous. Charging $5 for a small side of sauce isn't really acceptable. Also, when you tell a customer that the sauce is considered a "side," maybe offer it to them in a smaller "sauce" container so they can get a real side, like the green beans, rice, etc. - I also feel like this food is fine but not as good as it needs to be for the price. Lunch for 2 people with a slight discount is $22. Most of the employees are friendly here. A few others make it seem like they just dread being there. Perfect quick and affordable lunch, in the heart of downtown Durham. I like "take a tray and keeping moving" system that they have, it makes the line move pretty quickly for lunch. I've been here a couple of times during weekday rushes, and I've been impressed at how fast they move through everyone. The food is made fresh and everything is extremely appetizing! I had heard great things about Neomonde in Raleigh, but never tried it before, so I was looking forward to this experience. The interior is casual, open, and awesome. For two, we ended up ordering a plate and a pita. The meats chosen were shawarma and falafel. The falafels had a great texture and taste. I would definitely order again! To our surprise, you could get chicken salad as a side on the plate and they give a big portion of each side, so that was very nice. The main detractor to my experience was that the staff was not very helpful that night and rather impatient. To me, it wasn't clear how you should move through the line and no "next steps" were explained to me, so that was confusing. The guy at the register was particularly unhelpful, which I will just chalk up to an off-night, but was a little frustrating in the moment.
