The advertised buy-one-get-one deal on the Chicken Makhani (halal) sounded appealing, but the reality was far from it. The chicken was unequivocally spoiled - stale, rancid, and completely inedible. The result? A nasty case of food poisoning for my family. This experience highlights serious concerns about food safety and hygiene at this establishment, at least regarding their Uber Eats service. It was a really cold and windy day here in Chicago. My friend and I were so hungry and another friend of ours recommended Nepal House. Since we were nearby, we HAD to stop by and they did not disappoint!!! The food was FANTASTIC! And the staff were so lovely and hospitable! I live in the area and always see this place but was hesitant to try since it always appears closed. I am absolutely disappointed in the quality of this food. Service was abrupt but it seems they are more of a carryout spot. We ordered the veggie makhani which was horrible. It was bland despite asking for it to be spicy, and definitely does not use fresh vegetables although they said it was when asked. The pakora was also very salty and stale. Maybe the Nepalese food is better here but I rather go a little farther or order food from Indian spots in other neighborhoods because this one totally missed the mark. Nepal House is a Chicago/Devon St staple. Their satellite location in South Loop saves us driving all the way north to Rogers Park on a week night. I love ordering pick up from this location. Located on 13th and Michigan, this restaurant is still busy with take out options. The food is always spicy and tasty. They are flexible about the spice amount of mild to spicy hot. During covid the host is wearing a mask. The place is empty except for the bags of take out orders waiting for their customers to pick it up. This establishment is clean and nicely decorated. My friend and I were in Chicago for a much needed "mom getaway." My friend has to be gluten free because she is celiac. We called ahead to an Italian restaurant and they assured her every pasta could be made gluten free. However when we got there the waiter informed us he could provide one piece of plain fish and pasta with butter and garlic. We fled. We walked until we saw Nepal House, where we were greeted with so much pleasantness and joy and warmth. The atmosphere was perfect. The food was amazing. The hostess was thorough about what was and was not safe for my friend to eat. She brought us the one gluten free appetizer for us to try free of charge. We could not have had a more perfect experience. Our night was completely turned around. This restaurant is five stars in every way. read more

We had an amazing experience here. Walked over after spending the morning at the Shedd Aquarium. Very easy walk. We got an order of tandoori chicken tikka, chicken korma, and garlic naan. The gentleman serving us brought over complimentary Mango Lassi after we ordered our food, which was a great treat! The food was delicious, came out quick with impressive portion sizes. The restaurant was set up for contactless pick up and we were in and out very quickly. Ordered the vegetable korma, palak paneer, and chicken tikka masala as well as garlic naan and cheese naan. I really enjoyed the vegetable korma - super flavorful and very filling. The palak paneer had a bit of spice to it, but it wasn't too much. The naan was great - fresh, warm, soft, and fluffy! I couldn't believe the selection of tandoori breads they had on the menu - will definitely have to come back to try more. I feel like it's pretty hard to find Indian food in the area, so if that's what you're craving, this is definitely a good option, but it is a bit more expensive compared to other Indian restaurants I've been to. read more

So delicious! - Mango lassi - wonderfully tangy and creamy. - Chicken tikka masala - pretty standard. - Naan was a bit oily but the garlic one had great flavor. - We got a Nepali cauliflower dish. It was super flavorful, but incredibly spicy! - Chicken momo - so interesting to compare to other dumplings in the world! Similar to Chinese dumplings, but with spices and curry flavor. Very good. We've been frequenting this gem since we moved across the street three years ago. We have been weekly customers. The food has been authentic and the service attentive. But we've noticed changes during the last two months. The vegetable soup with lentils has changed. Now we notice a starchiness (corn starch, perhaps?) that was added to the soup - it's not the same. The texture and consistency of the dishes we order are not the same either. Did the restaurant change chefs or are they finding shortcuts to save on profits? The food is still decent, but we'll eat there less often until they revert back to their original outstanding menu and ways of cooking. So, what would have been 5 stars is not only 4. Rare Ethnic Food #32 I have come across some interesting rare Ethnic Food when I visited Chicago. During the lunch time, they have the lunch buffet. Menu order will take one hour. Nepal cuisine has a lot pierogi. When their people mostly at high altitude, as a result broiling water is common seen with dumplings. Their dumplings call mono in Nepal. We didn't try it this time because time to prepare is long. Their cuisine use of spice is very close to Indian except it is less heavy spice and more to sweet side. They are also more to noodle. The braise lamb is good. The tandoori chicken is well marinated. Their cuisine is an hybrid of Thai and Indian cuisine. Spicy side fro India and sweet side fro Thai. Actually Nepali has many ethnic group. This restaurant is more to Tibetan cuisine. read more

I had the vegetarian chow mein and it was so delicious! Spicy, but not the kind that burns, the kind that clears out your sinuses . Rude customer service. Need to set up job related 20-person party at this place and the guy was absolutely and disgustingly rude. For example, since there are two Nepal house restaurants in the area, I merely asked if these two are affiliated so I can set up dinner on either of the two places but the response I got is, "why do you need this kind of information?"
