So our first time at this lovely Nepalese joint, and I am duly impressed. We landed at this place, especially excited to try the Momos, but their other fare was excellent as well. Despite their food being flavorful, and their decor being beautiful, the reason they're getting 4 stars instead of 5 is simply because the portions simply cannot justify the price - this place is just too pricey! Here's a breakdown of what we had: Chicken Momos (steamed): these are basically steamed dumplings, if you've had shu mai, this is basically that. What makes this so good, however, is that the stuffing is really well seasoned, with Nepali spices. Very yummy indeed! Nepali Khasi - this is a delicious lamb curry. Quite flavorful, with a tomato based curry - quite delicious. Goan Fish Curry - this was the highlight for me, this curry was silky rich and had just a hit of sourness/acidity to cut through the richness. I absolutely loved eating this with some plain white rice, and the fish was cooked absolutely perfectly. Naan - their naan was actually quite good, and slightly different from the usual naan by being slightly denser and chewier. Good bread, though. Another excellent thing, offered as an addition, was the plate of onions and chillies that accompanied the food, sprinkled with chaat masala/black salt. Food: Chicken Makhani - Excellent Navratan Korma - Very good Dal Makhani - Very good. The addition of kidney beans added some nice texture. Lamb Samosas - Good, but it was mostly meat inside and I like some potato and peas with the meat filling. I might order the Veggie ones next time. Chicken Momo - I felt like we had to try this, seeing all the posted photos, but wouldn't order it again. Meat filling was too dense and not very flavorful. Naan - We got the plain and the garlic naan. Both were exceptional. White Rice - Was included with our food. Desserts - Didn't order any since the 3 of us were stuffed, but they have nice options. Atmosphere: One of the nicest decorated Indian restaurants I've been to. Bathrooms were clean. We sat in a comfortable booth. Service: Looked like only one server working but there were only a couple tables occupied at lunchtime on a Monday. The server wore a mask. The food took a while to come out, but it seemed like they were preparing everything fresh. Value: From the photos online, the dishes looked small for the prices, but they were plenty big. Great experience. I picked up food to take home. This was my first experience with Nepal House. The food was delicious --palek paneer and butter chicken. I love the small, intimate look of the restaurant with its tablecloths and cloth napkins and comfortable booths. I will definitely visit for dine-in. read more

This place blew our minds and made us come back the next week for dinner. I had the lamb tikka masala and it was probably one of the best meals that I have had in a while it was fulfilling and tasty. My partner had the butter chicken and got it again the second time. We also had the vegetable samosa which was terrific it tasted amazing with the sauces it came with. They mean to say, "could be prepared vegan upon request." they are not vegan unless you request it, but they don't indicate that on the menu anywhere. So if you have a dairy allergy, or are vegan, make sure you ask about all the "vegan" items before ordering them. read more

My first time trying Nepal House. I traveled to India many years ago and they had some of the best food I've ever had in my life. I decided to take a chance on this place even though it was pricey. I had some high expectations cause of the price and knowing how good Indian food is. I ordered my favorite dishes: Tandoori Chicken, Aloo gobi, Garlic naan with a Mango Lassi. For dessert, the Halwa. I had the food delivered and it came within the time expected. It was packed very nicely. The aloo gobi was good as well as the lassi and the naan. Food overall looked good. Taste was a different story. I was disappointed that the tandoori chicken was dry and didn't taste like what I expected. I was most looking forward to the carrot halwa which was ok. But to be fair, I haven't had it in awhile and it didn't taste the same. I am aware the generally Indian food is more expensive. Overall I feel I over paid for ok food. read more

One of the best meals. The Palak Paneer is one of the best I've had, and the same for the Kadhai Chicken. I ate both with the white rice and the Lachcha Parather (like roti bread but amazingly and wonderfully even tastier because of the butter and flakiness). The staff are really nice too. I would eat this meal every day if I could. Highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys Indian and/or Nepalese food. One last thing I would add: I read a review that said the portion sizes were not big enough, so then ended up ordering too much food. Ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, and Nepali Khasi for pickup. Good amount of basmati rice. Overall the sauces make each dish delicious. The Butter Chicken was so dry and tough that I needed a sharp knife to cut into it. The issue I had was with the Yelp 20% coupon offered for Nepal House. They were refusing to honor it, and told me to order online to get discount. She claimed it would be 15% off, but their online site states 10% off first order. After back and forth, she finally agreed to honor the Yelp coupon but then tried to limit what dish it can be used on. It was an unnecessary headache. Just don't offer the Yelp coupon if you aren't going to honor it. read more

We ordered through Caviar and when a driver wasn't assigned and the restaurant was about to close an employee at Nepal House reached out and said he would deliver it himself. He drove over in about 15 minutes and the food was still piping hot. One of the most outstanding displays of customer service I have ever encountered. Probably would've been 5 stars even if the food ended up being so so but the food was as good as the customer service, outstanding. We had the chicken momo, chicken tikka masala, Nepalese Chicken chow mein, and garlic naan. Everything had amazing flavor and the chicken momo dumplings were especially great. We ordered one veg steamed momo, one chicken steamed momo, veg chow mein, veg samosa & mixed vegetables pakora, 5 items which costed round off 47$ after coupon and taste was just average. Momos chutney was good and different. But I find veg momos average, the inside filling was sauté and I like steamed veggies in momo not with turmeric or with species. My husband liked the chicken momos. I had a better momo in Vegas . 6/10 Samosa was a disaster since the inside masala didn't have salt ‍ would not order it again. 3/10 Veg chow mein was good but lil salty for me but I can order it again. 8/10 Mixed veg pakoras was okish, it was lil oily but we ordered pakoras so it has to be oily I guess 5/10 read more

The dishes were always immaculately packaged and kept well as leftovers. Having sampled a few other Indian and Nepalese restaurants in the neighborhood, I find this one the best to date. This may be my new favorite Indian / Nepalese restaurant. They don't burden their dishes with excess amounts of oil, like so many others do. We ordered the lunch special, $13 for about eight tapas-sized portions of food that included chicken, mutton, rice, naan, Tandoori pudding, a potato dish, lentil soup and several others. It wasn't what we expecting, we misunderstood the waitress who had trouble speaking English. Nonetheless, we loved the flavors. It tasted as home-made as I've ever had. We have a winner. Amongst the hordes of Indian fare in the Devon neighborhood one place stands out. Nepal House. Our samosas were perfect, you know the flakey, not too greasy, sublime spice type. The Kofta was sweet, creamy and so good we licked the plate clean just like you see in cartoons. And, the owner was so kind. I had left my new iPhone and sunglasses on the table after we left and he ran a block to find me and give them back. Whew! Love, love, love this place. read more

Nepal House is a Chicago gem. Pleasant decor and the quiet atmosphere make this an ideal lunch spot on Devon. The food is terrific. Best tip I can provide is to order from the Nepalese section of the menu. For example: one of the all time best dishes in town is the chili fried momos (more than enough to make a meal for one, but best shared). These are delicious home-made dumplings in a medium spicy red sauce, reminiscent of the "Mirch' Indian fantasy of a Chinese sauce. Yellow daal was tasty - with a little more turmeric then in most Indian versions. Chili naan was excellent, spicing up our day! Accompanying masala tea was fine. I suspect other reviews that complained about service can be chalked up to the wrong cultural expectations. Come with some time to spare and you will have a great meal.
