Went a couple of weeks ago. It hasn't changed Much. The staff and service were ok. Nothing special but nothing wrong either. However the pastrami sandwich was a two small pieces of grocery store rye bread with three or four thin slices of second rate pastrami and nothing else between the bread. The fries were fine. For food I had one of my all time New Britain Diner favorites and also one of the house favorites, the Chef's Special !! The Chefs Special comes with (2) eggs (any style), (2) sausage, (2) bacon and (2) pancakes. I opted to double my order of sausage and bacon for an additional fee. Quick stop for breakfast on a Friday morning. We were greeted right away and seated within a couple minutes. Our server was very nice and welcoming. Our omelettes were identical except our toast. I drive 14 miles to get breakfast the way I like it at the New Britain Diner. What they have is options. Lots of options. They are open early serving breakfast and lunch. Here is a random list of some of the things I love about this place. The New York Sirloin steak and eggs breakfast has a real steak. Not a dried up piece of gristle. If you don't fancy home fries, you can swap them for hash brown patties, lettuce and tomatoes, mashed potatoes if it's later in the day and my favorite, crispy steak fries. The fajita omelette is awesome. Not your typical omelette. Try a side of well done bacon. It is addicting. They finish it in the fryer I think. The ham steak is humongous! Not a thin slice but a thick full size piece of ham. Big enough to share. You can trade in your pancakes for a waffle. It's a Belgian waffle with deeper squares that swallow up that butter and sweet syrup. Also, try one for a dessert with ice cream and strawberries. Dishes you have to try that you may not easily see at other diners. Big boy breakfast. Huge breakfast ! Eggs Benedict - 7 different options for eggs Benedict. You also should try the sautés. A whole page of creative options. Almost big enough for two people. Chicken parm & chicken fettuccine Alfredo are favorites but there are so many others! The house blend coffee is smooth and flavorful. Also, they're open every holiday featuring the appropriate dinner for the holiday. Stopped in for lunch and found the restaurant to be very busy. Parking is located at the rear of the restaurant although crossing to get into it was a little difficult. We entered and were greeted and seated immediately. Only saw booths available in the restaurant. Our server was at the table as soon as we sat down and took our drink order. The menu is huge, just like it should be with a diner. Choices from breakfast, burgers, and entrees. We settled on ordering breakfast. We ordered the western omelet with English muffin, the Irish Benedict, side of bacon, and corn muffin. The food arrived quickly and looked very good. The western omelet, very large, was cooked perfectly and had plenty of peppers and onions. English were grilled and came with two packets of butter. The Benedict was a large portion of hash with perfectly cooked eggs on top the way they should be so that when you cut into them the yolk ran abundantly over the hash. It all tasted very good. The Hollandaise sauce was very good and plentiful. The side of bacon was large, about 6 or 7, slices cooked nice and crispy. The corn muffin was pretty much run of the mill, nicely grilled, and two packets of butter came with it. Both the omelette and Benedict came with home fries which were good but could have been fried a lot more to add some crispiness to them. Overall the meal was great. Was in the area and, spur of the moment, decided to stop in for breakfast. Always interested in trying places I've never been to before, and there was a decent amount of cars in the lot. I asked my server, Pat, if the corned beef hash was homemade, or from a can, and she indicated can. Normally, this is a dealbreaker for me ordering anything with corned beef hash. But, I hadn't had eggs Benedict in a month or so of Sundays, and decided to give it a whirl....so, "Irish Benny" it was. Remind me to keep to my dealbreakers. The CBH was extremely salty to the point where that overwhelmed everything else. Eggs were very runny. On the flip side, the HFs were kind of bland, not very spiced at all. NBD earned 5 stars with our breakfast yesterday and here's why. There's a bunch of breakfast spots where I am in Bristol and they're all pretty mediocre. Even our go to place has gone way down hill the past couple years which is disappointing to say the least. So Sunday I wanted to try NBD. I haven't had food from there in probably a good 15 or so years so I had no idea how or if they've changed. I loved it back in the day so I had high hopes. Thankfully they did not let me down. I ordered a breakfast combo meal. It was eggs, pancakes and a variety of meats. Everything about the meal was amazing. The pancakes were tasty and plump. Bacon was decent and the sausage was perfect. Eggs, cooked perfectly over easy. There were also two omelets ordered. One had several meats in it and the other was a western omelet so it had some veggies in it. Both were fantastic. Fresh tasting and plenty of fixings inside. Not only were ingrediants fresh and tasty but also the overall prep of the food was done really well. Whoever was cooking yesterday morning knew how to make breakfast and make it well! Prices are all about average I would say and everything was cooked pretty quickly. NBD will be our go to breakfast spot from now on. They also do lunch and dinner. A huge menu which normally is a red flag for me but with the quality of the food we received I'm anxious to try other items on the menu! read more

I just came from the New Britain Diner where I had breakfast with some friends. The waitress was outstanding. The food was very good. The problem came when I got the check. The addition and totals on the check didn't match. When I asked why, our waitress was confused also. It was explained to me, and I was showed what I was charged for, which I did get, on their computer. I was then told their computer system was not working correctly and not all the charges were transferred and shown on the printed check. I was wasn't happy about this and expressed my unhappiness. I told person in charge who provided me with the explanation that they just lost a customer. Her response was merely, oh don't be upset about this and not come back. $3.00 is what the amount was. The woman didn't offer to do anything to keep me as a customer. I felt that my business wasn't worth $3.00 to them so they don't have it anymore. NBD has really grown on me. I have always enjoyed their Kielbasa Omelet or the Belgium Waffle with Strawberries. This time I was looking for more protein packed breakfast so I got the Loaded Grilled Chicken Fajita Omelet with mushroom, onions, red and green peppers and home fries, toast if you want. The Double CheeseBurger with fries was huge. Always really good portions and quick service with not more than a 10-15 minute wait from the time you order. Bland food with terrible service. "cinnamon" french toast had no cinnamon flavor at all, was soggy and cold. Muffin was stale. Waitress didn't check in on us at all, until she cleared the (still full) plates at the end and dropped off our check. When I came here for brunch, I was expecting them to great me with a g'day governor or oy mate, (hence new Britain) but I received the opposite. My friend got avocado toast that looked more like deconstructed guacamole if anything. My food was more bland than a spoon of cornstarch. We came here after going to lake compounce. We weren't familiar with the area and it was one of the only diners open. I got an Irish benedict (corn beef hash with a poached egg on an english muffin). I came into this with low expectations. One of my eggs was cooked perfectly, the other was over cooked. The hollandaise sauce was more of a thick gravy. The corn beef hash was well seasoned. Their home fries were unevenly cooked and seasoned. It was good in some parts, other parts tasted like raw potatoes. Their chicken orzo soup (soup of the day) was pretty good. Large pieces of chicken and pasta inside of the dish. A little salty as if it came from a can, but if it came from a can and it tastes that good, i gotta give Campbell's and high 5 for nailing it. We had a table of 12 so we had a little bit of everything. -Their fish and chips looked a little sad and their batter lacked seasoning -Their steak and eggs looked great -The nutella pancakes looked amazing, although they were a little skimpy on the Nutella. -The prime rib looked grey and well aged (not in the best of ways) -The chicken parm was thinly sliced and tender, the sauce was a little watery and acidic for my taste, and the chicken was burnt on the edges due to it being under the broiler too long. Unfortunately, it was a soggy mess on top of pasta. For what it was, it was diner food. They are gonna have food they excel in (breakfast and soups) then they are gonna have the rest of their extensive menu. If you go in with normal expectations, youll be alright. Decent food at 2am? We visited the N.B. Diner today and was a but disappointed in the food, specifically the eggs and bacon. The bacon was borderline burnt and the eggs we not cooked as requested. To add insult to injury, our party of 4 was arbitrarily charged an 18% gratuity as apparently a party of 4 is considered a "large party." Ordinarily, I wouldn't have a problem with this, if it is a known factor up front and is conspicuously posted, which in this case it was not. To sum up our visit, it was just "okay". The potatoes were undercooked and the toast was overcooked. But I was the lucky one. My mom ordered an open turkey sandwich. First, the 'gravy' glowed -- the picture does not really do it justice, I was looking around for thew Ghostbusters team to appear and zap her plate. To me, there isn't a reason to have a diner if it's not open 24/7. But, I get it. Covid killed the late night diner scene in CT. Stopped in here for the first time to have breakfast. Was instantly greeted. I opted to sit at the counter since it was just me. Probably the most comfortable diner counter I've ever sat at. The menu was pretty extensive, typical diner food and the waitress told me they serve everything all day. I wanted eggs but also wanted pancakes. I got the chef's special which included two of each of pancakes, bacon, sausage, and eggs and obviously got coffee. The coffee was probably the best part of the meal. It wasn't anything gourmet, but it was piping hot and didn't turn to ice the second I added cream. The food itself was good. Ordered scrambled eggs and they were slightly under cooked for being scrambled. The pancakes however were delicious. They were practically the size of a frisbee but we're nice and light so my stomach didn't feel like I swallowed an anvil after I ate them. Bacon was good and crispy, sausage was kind of bland but ok. Service was great. Overall it was an ok experience. Not having had dinner the night before I definitely needed a good meal. I would go back to try more someday. read more

Went back to CT for a family event. Stayed in New Britain as it was centrally located to our stay. Went here not once but TWICE and probably would go more. The grilled ham and cheese was THE BEST THING EVER. Service was awesome. Ambiance was great. Honestly, this place was a trip down memory lane for my mom who had my brother and I back here in the 70s. She remembered coming here. Thank you for such a great experience. We even ordered the grilled ham and cheese for breakfast the next day. Service overall here is pretty good. There have been a couple of WTF moments, but to their saving grace, the fries are amazing! Nice and hot and crispy, with a side of mayo and ketchup! Anyhow, I don't expect much from diners, so I am rarely left feeling underwhelmed. Sometimes service here is beyond what I expect, and it's an extra plus with them hot and crispy fries! Burgers are good, but sometimes I question why even ask for a temp, when it comes out the same way no matter how I order it. We have been here multiple times but from this experience we feel like we should never go again due to the treatment we received from the staff. When my company and I was ordering, the waitress tone was very condescending and coming of rude when we asked questions about the menu. We also witness the same waitress be rude to other customers of color. Food was okay but there was a unnecessary conversation about the size and price of the beverages which they failed to inform the customers about. Which left a bad taste in our mouth. This was my first time trying New Britain Diner. Originally from East Hampton, you hear all the horror stories about how crusty New Britain is. Today I experienced it for myself I work from home and recently moved to Berlin so I ordered this through doordash. The issue was the food, not my driver. I get back inside after picking up my order from the driver and open up the cheese omelette I ordered with home fries. The home fries were gray looking and cold on the inside. The omelette had about 1 slice of cheese throughout the entire thing, and it was topped off with a Short brown HAIR right front and center in the middle. I have never left such a terrible review. Have been a loyal customer because of my love for their M&m pancakes! I tell everyone I know about them, that's how good they are. On a mission to be more health conscious I have been ordering the healthy omelette instead of my beloved pancakes. It's egg whites and veggies, served with toast and tomatoes.
